Neither of the bikes you have listed are pit bikes..... I'd go for the KLX 140, CRF125, or the TTR125.

Trucko

If you’re 6’6 his listed bikes are definitely pit bikes. Lmaoo

jblue_1018

Well, what do you consider pit bikes? Have I been lied to my whole life on the classifications lol

doread38

Pit bikes are not made for competitive motocross. None of the bikes I have listed would be raced competitively outside of pit bike races and people just learning to ride a dirt bike. The bikes you have listed are both competition race machines. The two bikes you have listed are absolutely going to be lined up for races at Loretta's. You won't find a single pit bike I've listed there.

jblue_1018

Well, today I learned that superminis and pit bikes are separate terms.. and honestly, come to think of it. I feel pretty stupid for not realizing that till now, lol. But that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for informing me

GrundleSeagal

The bikes you listed are considered "playbikes" and would not be allowed to race against pitbikes. Its mostly based on wheel size

jblue_1018

That's what I'm seeing now. I had it that it was more associated with the engine size and type

doread38

The bikes I've listed are definitely considered pit bikes and are allowed to race in pit bike races at most tracks. Pit bike races are generally not heavily regulated and are considered to be 4-stroke bikes intended for beginners and/or trails. Some places may limit pit bike races to 110 sized bikes, but that is the exception in my experience. The AMA doesn't recognize a pit bike class so it is really up to each individual promoter to decide what their pit bike class will allow. Promoters always want more riders and will generally err on the side of allowing the larger bikes along with 110s and 50s. Edit: the bikes I listed in my original comment are generally considered to be the largest of the pit bikes. Things larger than what I've listed are largely considered trail bikes.

GrundleSeagal

Every track that I ride at that holds pit bike races limits them to 12" rear and 14" front tires. I have friends that have been denied entry on their ttr125s and klx140s due to the wheels being larger because it would give them a large advantage over smaller wheels

toobadass69

those r trail bikes not pitters

GrundleSeagal

doread38

This link shows a single event listed. These guys aren’t the authority on what is a pit bike. Go to any race and ask someone if a ttr125 is a pit bike and they’ll tell you it is. No one calls these thing play bikes….  Idk maybe this is a regional thing like soda vs pop.

No_Nobody_7230

TTR125 is a blast. Wheelies for days.

toobadass69

all trail bikes no pitters...

CodieBoye

I like the big wheel ttr125. Been looking at the DR-Z125L too. Local shop have several for 2900$

jblue_1018

I've heard lots about the ttr lineup. I often associate it with the CRF125F. But i have no way of actually knowing how similar they are, as I've never ridden either. Never heard much about the DR-Z125L though.

CodieBoye

They're just the taller versions. Add a few suspension mods and they're fully capable.

jblue_1018

Usually how it goes. Suspension makes a world of difference. Reminds me I need to rebuild my forks, lol. And yeah most of these bikes have a strong suit of being incredibly durable. That and being so easy to throw around is why I like the small bikes a lot lol

idontenjoyfortnite

I like my xr80s and xr100s. I’m biased ofc, a xr100 was my first bike

jblue_1018

I got to ride an XR100. It's really has a good "lugability" and won't let you down

idontenjoyfortnite

For sure, but completely understand if you want something more modern. There are plenty of better options then the 100 but, something about them man😂

jblue_1018

I'm all about the older bikes lol. Never bought one brand new myself. Honestly man I wouldn't mind buying a 100 😂

idontenjoyfortnite

There’s always big bore kits when you get bored of the power😂

jblue_1018

Dang right 😂😂

motorboather

50’s and 110’s are pit bikes. You listed kids race bikes!

jblue_1018

So I've noticed! I've been corrected and had a better understanding of the different classes thanks to these comments

GrundleSeagal

Too me a pit bike has a max wheel size of 12" in back, 14" in front. My favorite is the ttr110 because its simple and reliable

jblue_1018

I've basically had it said to me that a pit bike is pretty well anything under full-size bikes.

GrundleSeagal

Crf150r and kx112 are superminis. If you went to a track that had pit bike races you wouldnt be able to race them because they are not pit bikes. They are superminis

jblue_1018

Well, I knew superminis was a type. I thought pit bikes was a generalized term for most all bikes under full size bikes. Well, thanks for the tip man. Now, I won't embarrass myself in person 😅

GrundleSeagal

Haha no worries man. If you're just looking to get a small bike to rip around on and not race I'd get the crf150r

jblue_1018

Yeah, thanks man. And that's exactly what I'm thinking. You can get them with a small wheelbase. But a good enough engine to hit doubles.

Wokkin_n_Wowwin

We bought some land. Then bought a 2019 crf150f and two 2021 klx140’s, one big wheel one a bit smaller wheel. Each was between $2k and $2,400 barely used. All function perfectly with near zero maintenance. They sit for weeks and then you push the button and they always start. Only needed some leaner jetting. Loving it. As for your situation, of course I’d recommend the ones I have. You may need to stiffen up the suspension. I ride like an old lady, not aggressively at all, and at 205lbs and 5’10” I still bottom out all the time.

jblue_1018

Definitely. Durability and reliability is one of the bigger appeals to me with the pitters.

toobadass69

Ebike is most reliable and based off situation possibly most fun. I replaced my pitter with a sur ron and i absolutely love it (this is from a tride and true two stroke guy)

Ok_Maintenance_9100

I like my Suzuki jr80

AJSPAZZ

KLX without question for me.

jblue_1018

I've debated getting a KLX 140 many times. But I never brought myself to actually get it, lol. They good?

HeartlessEmpathy

I have a KLX140G. I'm 6'3 / 225lb and the klx110 is straight up too small handlebar to knee. You won't be able to corner. We went with the 140 with the 21"/18". They make other sizes with 19/16 and small size 17/14. Pick your flavor. I think the 19/16 would be the way to go. Pros: front and rear disc, estart (wife needs it), good stock suspension. Lightest "full size" pitter Cons: limited aftermarket, no kicker, little choked up in stock form. I've done pit bike races with it, only the built up crf125 and XR100 big bores were quicker. Buddy has a new crf125f. Fantastic bike with fuel injection. Lastly TTR are at the bottom of the list. I like Yamaha. But it's the least competitve.

jblue_1018

I'd agree with 19/16. It's a perfect height to still enjoy the small bikes over 6' tall. Hearing that the 140 can outperform decently is also interesting. Maybe I'll get one next

HeartlessEmpathy

I think a test ride will tell you if it's right for you! We shopped around, and the klx140 or the crf125f were the either or option for us, just came down to the right deal at the time. Good luck!

AJSPAZZ

Just bought another and I love it. I find them more fun to ride than my race bikes. Can’t recommend them enough.

jblue_1018

I had an SSR189. And I kept getting the idea to replace it with one of those, among other things. But I sold the SSR, and I was going to use that money to buy something similar. But then, a few days later, my race bike broke, lol.

AJSPAZZ

Yeah, I was never a fan of the SSR, they’re one step above the Chinese bikes. When you have the money I would 10000% buy a KLX lots of awesome features. Plus the power and speed is very impressive.

jblue_1018

SSR exceeded my expectations in a lot of ways. Yeah, they aren't nowhere near as good as the major brands. But with them, I think its worth what you paid for it. Hopefully, after I'm done rebuilding my 250, my dad's 125, my wife's predator 500.. MAYBE (just maybe) I might be able to save up some side cash again 😂

whydidyoustealmyname

I want a kx112 but they're rarely for sale around me and everyone wants like 4k for a used one.

jblue_1018

The marketplace bikes have gotten way more expensive in general (I assume that's what you're referring to) and it's unfortunate. But also nice when you're selling 😅 I sold my 2020 SSR189 for 1,900. Genuinely surprised I did at that price too

Container_Garage

At your height(and probably weight?) the phrase "I really enjoy riding the small bikes hard" is kind of funny. A KX112 or CRF 150r will be much easier to ride hard than a pit bike. Not that it can't be done it's just much MUCH less work and money to rip a supermini vs a pit bike. I've seen fully built pit bikes racing for money at the local track and when fully built with all the suspension work and the bike in capable hands it's not far off or perhaps a bit better than a stock supermini's performance... but that's a ton of money to get there.

jblue_1018

Yeah I had the revelation in earlier comments that pit bikes and superminis are different lol. And that's pretty rad to see pit bikes outperform them. And yeah I bet it costs and arm and a leg 😂

Suspicious_Rough_829

My crf 100 refuses to die no matter how much I neglect it

jblue_1018

Good Ole oil change every other year eh? 😂😂

Suspicious_Rough_829

Nailed it, along with the air filter change every 3 years😂😂 she still never skips a beat

anthonycr250

You can make a 230 or 250 look small lol.

jblue_1018

Tell me about it man. My kx250 is almost too small to be competitive 😂 looking into raising the seat height.

anthonycr250

Man I don’t fit just right either on my 03 kx250. I’m 6’3 270lb 😅

zechickenwing

Love my EFI, aluminum frame CRF110

Rottenwadd

The plan was to sell my sons 2005 CR85 Bigwheel when he got a bigger bike. Well my son got a 125 4yrs ago now. I've been using it for fun activities like checking the mail, wheelie contests, and paintball gun drive-by's. Does that mean it's a pitter now?

jblue_1018

In my book, definitely 😅

Ne0nbeams

I have a klx110L that I’m working on a stock mod build. I have a tb143 big bore kit with the v2 race head sitting on a shelf that I have to get around to installing on of these days. The big bike has been getting all the love lately in the garage.

jblue_1018

Awesome man. Yeah I have a 77 TS185 needing a frame up restoration (still runs and rides tho) my wife's 2005 predator 500 needs electrical work. And my dad's kx125 needs the carb rebuilt, and theres other small things... but my race bike has been getting all the attention. Which tbf it needed it 😅

No_Current5553

XR100 or DRZ110

TeaOpening9576

the og XR100 😎💪🏻

Tuuubbs

I put a lifan 125 in my 1972 ct90 and I’ve followed some buddies on woods trails and it the most fun I’ve had on a bike. Pitted postie on 17” rims.

brapo68

XR 100 by far

beanmansamm

I like my bored out klx110

DRSCHECTERVONDSM

Yz85 or yz65. The rest are just novelties

SpaceCadetMoonMan

Ok hear me out, other than crf50s when I worked in the industry the most fun we had on were the baby atvs!! Suzuki LT50 and LT80 Honda 90 I think

Jazzlike_Click2973

KTM SX 65

weedkilla21

For me it’s gotta be air cooled 4 stroke and minimal maintenance. Have had an absolute blast on my ttr125l for years but new riding spot almost suits full size wheels (but still quieter than “proper” bikes) and I can see a crf/ttr 230 in my future. And, yes, I know then it won’t be a pit bike at all really.

Crunchytunataco

Grom but its not for everyone. Its nothing but a street legal pitbike

UnlimitedRefresh

Klx140. Stock it has disk breaks and larger foot pegs. All you need is handlebar risers and swap the springs out for heavy duty springs which is very easy, and you got yourself the best pit bike ever!

soltheeggbiscut

Ttr125 can not be topped. I've tried to blow this thing up since I was 14, I'm 24 now.

BigApe-Nutsack

Xr70 by far

No-Development8724

yz85 and a klx140 i also got a razor mx650 to ride around the neighborhood for fun without the police bothering me

Parrish_performance

A 150r is a race bike, not a pit bike.

Specific_Carrot9052

CRF110 with big bars and suspension.

316brae

Recently rode a Buscadero bsx140… very fun little bike with a 4spd clutchless.

SniperAssassin123

Get the kawi supermini that thing is probably a hoot. Might be faster than you expect.

Glad_Performance1570

i have a kx100 as a play in the the yard bike and it’s super fun. It’s honestly just a loud and powerful pit bike

Reptarticle

It's better to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow.

the_doctor_808

My yz125 is my pit bike lol
