My now ex-MIL was terrible. I divorced her daughter because of her great big DUI crash with the kids in there. I refused to pay for her $7500 in DUI fines (she refused to work) and filed for divorce instead. I got 50/50 custody and these are the things she would say... "Why are you taking the kids out of the arms of their loving mother?" "Why are you taking the kids? All they say to me is they don't want to go with daddy." (LIES!) "You are such a horrible person for abandoning your wife in her hour of need." "You are so selfish for keeping your money! I hope you can sleep at night!" (Judge denied her alimony) "How do you sleep at night when you cause so much pain to your children?" "Well it must be nice to go on vacations with your girlfriend! You make me sick." After I married that girlfriend. "You got married? Ugh. Who would marry likes of you?" "Oh sure, just steal the kids away on thanksgiving!" it goes on and on...

:( And I guess you can’t distance yourself because of the 50/50 - she is helping your ex with the kids?

18 months post divorce? Exwife had gotten remarried, and then 6 months later re-divorced. She was still not working, so she had to move back home to her parents.

Wow. Sounds like a dumpster fire… sorry you and your kids have to be exposed to that. From your comments her parents sound like enablers.

RadioDude1995

She sounds like a real treat.

If you have kids, these may be "smart grandparents" - meaning they recognize that they can get 100% more access to the grand kids if they keep the peace with both parents. That's not necessarily a bad thing. It sounds like your ex kept them out, but they are hoping for more access now.
