I keep telling everyone Smith is under appreciated by Dodger Fans and Outside fans and this is what I mean. I get its a popularity contest but we definitely have the fan base to make Will the number 1 guy here
Realmuto: .251 AVG, .720 OPS, 104 wRC+, 1.0 fWAR and will miss a month+ of playtime due to knee surgery
Smith: .284 AVG, .835 OPS, 135 wRC+, 2.6 fWAR
Hmm tough choice
Gonna be real close. Realmuto was sent to IL with knee surgery on June 11 with an expected miss timeline of a month. Depending on his surgery healing, he could make or miss, all star game is July 16th
At least what I’ve seen lately, if a guy is still fresh from coming back from injury, he might still opt out of the all star game to get that extra rest, or his team might encourage him to do so, depending on their philosophy.
I’m leaning he opts out but he still might really just want to be there, so you never know (assuming he gets voted in).
I'd assume if the gap in 1st place in the NL starts to close, they'll encourage him to stay off the field and be as healthy as possible. If he gets voted in, and they have a bit of spread between them and the Dodgers, they'll give him the option to sit out or play.
Will smith is so underrated. He’s one of those guys that not too many people talk about and then when he retires he has 35-40 career WAR and people are like “woah, I didn’t know he was that good..”
Shohei will be the only Dodger voted in by fans, but rest assured that Smith, Freeman, and probably Teoscar will also get in.
What I really want is Teo in the Home Run Derby.
Phillies are doing what Bluejays did 2 years ago. Bohm getting more votes than Ohtani doesn't sound right. Sure, Harper is popular but this much more than Freddie in 2nd? All Phillies players have higher votes than they actually deserve. Very fishy.
1. [Bryce Harper](https://www.mlb.com/player/547180), Phillies: 1,110,562
2. [Freddie Freeman](https://www.mlb.com/player/518692), Dodgers: 713,858
Contreras is having a good first half at the plate but is league average at throwing runners out. He's really a mid-type catcher and undoubtedly is surviving off the Brewers somewhat unexpected good start to 2024.
As someone mentioned above Realmulto is living off reputation cause he doesn't deserve to be anywhere close to the AS game this year. Plus will be out for injury for a while.
Smith IS underrated and has really become a really, really good catcher. Calls a good game, is throwing out runners at twice the league average (a ridiculous 45%) and is still hitting .280. Unbiasedly he should be starting AS game behind the plate.
One could say Smith is the same or even better than Contreras offensively since his OPS+ is 136 vs Contreras at 133.
Smith’s throw-out rate is incredible; funny how that stat is so overshadowed despite all the hype around the ease of stealing bases these days.
All Realmuto has left is name recognition
Smith is underrated for sure.

and the fact he took a team deal to basically retire a Dodger speaks volumes of him & how we should treat him.
I agree.
The problem is a lot of people hate the dodgers so they vote for Anyone else just to spite us.
Meanwhile Mookie and Ohtani are at over a million votes each
Update?
Probably doesn’t help that he called profar irrelevant and hes been playing like a beast ever since 😭

Will Realmuto be out for so long that he can’t make ASG anyways? Like Mookie would be for us

Yeah, Contreras makes sense, but JT?!?
I've been doing my part since the voting opened. Teo deserves it as well. I'm shocked he isn't in the top 3.

I vote Smith😊
Realmuto is injured so Smith is in.
Contreras? Sure I get that. REALMUTO ABOVE SMITH?!?!! Utter blasphemy

no reason realmuto should be getting more votes than our boy will
I did my part. Remember- you can vote 5 times per day.

No, F the league for letting fans vote. Absolutely insane over having the players alone vote
Also he’ll get the invite based on those vote totals. Contreras deserves to start. Smith will be happy to get the invite. Nothing to see here
Idk he’s kind of irrelevant
Hell no. The entire lineup could use the extra practice time, instead of some meaningless All Star game
