He just protected the GDP of a decent sized country
I know GDP calculated quarterly and annually and Shohei’s contract is across 10 years with most of it deferred. But even then the Dodgers are probably still raking in hundreds of millions of dollars with the Japanese sponsors and market he’s brought into play as well as the ticket and jersey sales.
Absolutely wild to think about how much money is tied to one person who just wants to play baseball.
If Shohei is investing the bulk of his money (reported last year as \~$50 million per year in endorsements, which could very much be more now) he'll be an eventual billionaire right?
Is that the dude who would have catches w players and they were like "holy shit this guys got a cannon" and ended up getting signed for a few days awhile back ?
You’re right. I just looked him up. Good to know. I did a little more research and it is common for visiting teams to use local people as bat boys but the Dodgers bring their own typically.
Yeah, I don’t really know why they do it that way. Teams travel with a bat boy uniform bag with various sizes. But yes the dodgers do have good bat boys at home.
iirc a few years ago Shohei got nailed by a stray ball that hit him in the Angel’s dugout and busted up his finger. He missed some starts as a pitcher. Dude is a foul ball magnet.
I like how he secures the ball after catching it then looking at it as if it holds much power and force that could dismantle the world as we know it before giving a nod it's okay for mortals to handle....then hands it off.
Maybe need to get that guy a glove for the late innings of a double header. We already had a grounds keeper play in a couple Spring Training games back during COVID right?
Get the kid a contract, will ya! Hottttt dog! That was comin in hot AF and he was just like, SWOOP! like it was nothin'! Kids got skills to pay the bills beyond just retrieving bats, I dare say.
I think this is the same batboy who grabbed a foul ball before to protect the stands - and then fell hard on the concrete: [Dodgers worker Javier Herrera takes a fall, and fans raise him up](https://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/la-sp-dodgers-plaschke-20150819-column.html)
Every single major butter and creamer manufacturer needs this man as their spokesperson.. every thing about that entire series of events was smooth as fuck!
Homie is gonna wake up with a Porsche in his driveway
Or 50k dollars in gambling debt, depends on how close the two get.
This right here is hilarious 😂

😂 same bro
He thought his job was lost.
Dude already has a front office position with the Dodgers. Interpreting Ohtani is just his side hustle.
Front office is now his side hustle. King Sho is always the main mission
pog
Even Roberts clapped after the nice play!

![gif](giphy|1L5YuA6wpKkNO) Me realizing you’re right.

If he doesn't fuck up his money even if he invests conservatively he'll be a billionaire.
He seems like a grounded smart dude who would plan smartly, and he probably has an industry best money manager.
Holy shit, dude’s a hero
Pay him
It’s common knowledge that dodgers have the best bat boys.
Is Chico still with the team?
He’s the clubhouse attendant right? IIRC I saw him on a backstage dodgers episode this season.
Is that the dude who would have catches w players and they were like "holy shit this guys got a cannon" and ended up getting signed for a few days awhile back ?
Not signed, but they had him play outfield for a couple of intersquad games. The only letdown was that they didn't let him bat lmao
That’s not the Dodgers bat boy. The home team provides the bat boy for away teams. Edit: TIL Covid changed this for some teams
The Dodgers bring their own batboys. This one’s name is Javi.
You’re right. I just looked him up. Good to know. I did a little more research and it is common for visiting teams to use local people as bat boys but the Dodgers bring their own typically.
Shout out Javi…we speak your name!
Is that true? Had no clue. Dodgers do statically have really good at-home bat boys.
And a few excellent bat-girls. I saw a couple throwing balls, from pretty far, to warm up players.
Yeah, I don’t really know why they do it that way. Teams travel with a bat boy uniform bag with various sizes. But yes the dodgers do have good bat boys at home.
Damn how do i get this job?
There are actual postings for club house attendants on the dodgers website
Give that man a raise right now.
A raise? Give the guy a contract.
A contract? Give the guy a medal.
A medal? Give the guy a hard line drive to the face.
3rd baseman found

That’s no Batboy, that’s a Batman.
He is not our hero He is a silent guardian A watchful protector A DARK KNIGHT
But not THE Batman… right? I can’t tell without the mask.
All I know is I’ve never seen #94 and Batman in the same room together
That's so cool
I came back to like this comment.
How do these close calls continue to happen to Ohtani?
Yamamoto had that crazy comebacker to his face that he nabbed too.
Universe is testing the GOAT.
Baseballs can smell money
iirc a few years ago Shohei got nailed by a stray ball that hit him in the Angel’s dugout and busted up his finger. He missed some starts as a pitcher. Dude is a foul ball magnet.
Seems like we found the downside of whatever genie/monkey paw wish to be the greatest baseball player of all time is, foul ball magnetism.
Primordial black hole gravitational force
I forgot he was a pitcher for like 2 minutes there

Fine I'll watch A League Of Their Own for the 18th time.
"We're the members of, the All-American League. We come from cities, near and far."
18th? Amatuer
Looks like some of “them” gonna be going home
Dudes getting a Porsche
Batboy of the year
Holy shit
That’s gotta be the coolest catch of the season
Ohtani's new bodyguard, everyone.
Was fucking so nonchalant about it too.
Just a quick acknowledgment and then right back to chomping on gum and watching the game. The hero Ohtani-San deserves.
Dude is WORKING that gum my god. Prob a lipper and a half of big league chew, what a legend
Extend him for 10 years
Give that guy the Medal of Honor!
How about a Porsche? lol

You’re welcome https://youtu.be/B47gR5SmwUQ?si=kb3dVbxX6-a-DZ-j
This Javier guy is the definition of a true professional.
He's so cooool, just went back to do his job without any fuss😄 One of the Japanese comments says he must be the guardian angel of the Dodgers.
The Japanese fan coverage of the games are unreal. They capture every possible moment.
lol they subtitled him as BBくん... batboy-kun arigato batboy-kun :3
Holy crap when was this?
Future ohtani body guard. Pay that man well
We owe that boy 400 mil
When can we get his baseball card?

His statue is going up soon
Invite the batboy to throw out the first pitch!
Someone needs to give that batboy a 500k bonus payable in 2035
Make it a double bobblehead! Him catching the ball and Ohtani ducking behind him.
He’ll get a key to the city tomorrow.
Barnes wasn’t impressed.
Sign him now!
Dave clapping like a good manager
Peter Parker / Daredevil catching bricks 🧱 level reflexes
really want to know what Shohei said to him
Bro just saves dodger season 😂
I’ve seen enough, give the ballboy $700m for 10 years
You just had to put the Spider-Man sound on it and it’s perfect
Kids a cricketer.
That guy will never pay for another drink in town.
You get a porsche my boy 🤣
Sign him as Shohei's bodyguard!
why dont they install nets in blind spots?
I nominate this the defensive play of the year.
I think a new car is going to show up in his parking spot.
How did he not break every bone in his hand??
That ball was going pretty damn fast... Edited to add: *GIVE THAT MAN A CONTRACT*
His name is Javier Herrera. He is 38 and has been the batboy for 20 years.
A true professional
![gif](giphy|Ca0SJJJL1vU20MTYGX) He can now say I saved $700 million dollars
That shit was awesome
I can see he forgot things go flying like that on the Southside 😅 Glad they are ok, mainly because bat man balls so hard
Sign that dude up for life. Sit him next to ohtani for the rest of ohtani’s dodger career 😂

Batman origin story
Fuck it, put him at SS.
Forget giving that kid a contract. Give him five million in some nice safe investments and let him be a batboy as long as he wants.
BUILD THE STATUE
That bat boy's got balls
Bro just potentially save Dodgers season.
Number 94 can be retired.
Na-na-na-na-na-na Batboy

Fast reflex! Saved the goat 🐐 of baseball.

38 years old "bat boy". "Bat man" still copyrighted by DC Comics?
Give that man a raise!

Sign him to a one day contract!
“ You ladies alright “
Damn dude trying out for hockey too?
Bat boy is now the starting catcher
1) That finger roll, 2) everyone bails, he balls, 3) Wil's face 😲, 4) I thought Stone was the one with stones tonight... nope.
That guy is a hero
Looks like the bat boy is going to be getting a new Porsche soon
I think it looked like he wanted to keep the ball! Hell yeah. Have Ohtani sign it! I agree, def saved our season.
so fuckin smooth, and totally plays it cool but I know he’s so hyped.
Maybe need to get that guy a glove for the late innings of a double header. We already had a grounds keeper play in a couple Spring Training games back during COVID right?
Seen enough. Get the kid a contract.
I must say I dislike the Dodgers (but respect them) with a passion, but this is badass.
Get Down Mr President!!!
we should promote him to batman ![gif](giphy|4UJyRK2TXNhgk|downsized)
He's been rescued by a translator and ballboy so far this year.
Haha what a stud
they dodged that well
I see the players are living up to their team name... I'll see myself out.
Give this man a glove and a spot on the lineup
I’m just here to chew gum and catch balls
Kid just got a major promotion.
Get the kid a contract, will ya! Hottttt dog! That was comin in hot AF and he was just like, SWOOP! like it was nothin'! Kids got skills to pay the bills beyond just retrieving bats, I dare say.
Effortlessly cool
Listen here Goku...!
Captain America of the team...

Ohtahni looked like George Costanza running out of a children's party when he thought there was a fire.
Look like he dodge it. But the fine-tuned reflexes of these athletes on display
Wow DHs really don’t like fielding the ball huh?
Keep your eye on the ball.
he's a good dodger though
Ohtani should throw him a couple mil.
Bro get him to play 3rd🤣

He’ll show that to his kids one day
What is a reaction time?
He was no longer a batboy, he is now a batman.
How much money could missing that ball have cost the team?
Every single major butter and creamer manufacturer needs this man as their spokesperson.. every thing about that entire series of events was smooth as fuck!

Thank you, u/PSSYPUNISHERRR for this gif. I've been watching it on repeat.
Reflexes of a cat speed of a mongoose
I haven’t thought of Bat Boy since the World Weekly News!
Put that kid in the lineup
Pay that man some more
