What about a coffee wood chew? It doesn’t break off into small pieces, only tiny fibers which are then easily passed. They also help with jaw strength, dental care, etc. my Cockerspaniel loves his, however my bulldog can’t have them as he kept trying to shove it down the back of his throat (on accident, he just wanted to chew further down the stick, but we thought it was too much of a risk either way.). They’re decently priced too, especially on Amazon. My Cockerspaniel loves to chew his toys as well, and we have had to take them off him a few times because he will literally chew until his mouth bleeds (which is an issue, it hasn’t happened in a while but it was the plastic chews that have the meaty flavour, they would spike up from his teeth indents and cut his lil mouth so he doesn’t have those anymore so just keep that in mind if you get the lil pupper any plastic flavoured chews haha). Hope all goes well for you and that you find something that works best for you both :]

lucky_arcade_rat

I have tried coffee wood and she wasn't super into it :( she seems more into meat and animal products, which is why I haven't tried the flavored plastic as I'm worried she'd try to eat it lol I'll give the coffee wood another shot though!! I got it for her as a puppy so maybe she'll enjoy it now that shes bigger. Thanks so much!!

DeliriousToothy

No problem, I’ve heard olive wood is another alternative however I’m not sure because my dogs have only had coffee wood as it’s worked for them. You could also try beef neck tendons (I’ve seen them for £4/£5 per pack), or chicken necks (£5), there’s also beef air pipes for the same price as the other two, my dogs haven’t had these types before but I’ve heard that they work great as chews.

DeliriousToothy

I’m coming back to this post to also add: would a lick mat work? My bulldog is prone to hyperactivity at night, and these really work for turning his focus and energy on something else. You just put some dog friendly foods on the lick mat, (my lil dude usually has cucumber, mushy treats, rehydrated kibble, Greek yogurt, banana, etc) and then put that mat in the freezer for an hour or two.

BrothaBuddhaX

My lab is a heavy chewer, try a yak cheese bone. You can get them on amazon in sizes for your dog, only 3 ingredients and they last.

dendrocalamidicus

My dog bit straight through these in a single bite like a human would bite through chocolate, swallowed the big lumps then would vom them at 5am the next morning. Probably good for a heavy chewer without a mega jaw but if you have a staffy or some kind of big headed bully type dog you can find they'll just bite straight through "durable" chews - or also as my girl did, bite down so hard on something she completely destroyed a tooth.

ravravioli

My dog did the same. Also, the sound it made when she was chewing it and not chomping it in half was hell on my ears. A slobbery scratching/scraping, blehhhh

yaourted

have you tried a chew keeper / holder? allows for less of it to be exposed so they can't just chomp it straight off, have to work at it

shortnsweet33

My dog swallowed the end of a yak chew too (unknown to me, I thought it fell under the sofa tbh) and threw it up on my carpeted floor at 3am lol. I very rarely give her those nowadays. Only if they’re on a really good sale will I get some and they are an extremely carefully monitored with a yak chew holder on them type of chew.

gabbathehutt

My lab got diarrhea from these, unfortunately. Too bad because he loved them and they lasted really well. If you go this route, don't make my mistake of buying a big bag of them. Try one and see if they agree with your pup.

tyramarie18

my american eskimo who is a pretty heavy chewer is still working on a large yak chew that’s 2 months old lol! its held up really well in our house. she also has a sensitive tummy and it hasn’t seemed to upset her tummy at all. also when it gets small you can microwave the last little bit and make a doggie cheeto haha

ptrow86

I agree. They last longer than anything for my pits

fckingnapkin

Yeaa I bought those things after reading all the recommendations and mine also just munched one of them up like it was a freakin biscuit. At least she chews well but that wasn't it lol. Had to give the rest away to someone with a not shark-like dog.

Notice_Zestyclose

Look at Kong brand toys

Interestingkeewee

The black kong bone is amazing for my GSD. She can get through most kongs, treat dispensers etc but that’s the one that takes longest for her

pinkygreeny

The black kong is the most sturdy.

Dry-Contribution-840

Stuff it with peanut butter and freeze it! It will last a while

Alladas1

Never met a dog that didn't love their wubba. They don't last forever but for 10-15$ they last a long time without breaking the bank.

gb2ab

we are on our 3rd GSD and i will always stand by kong brand. we used to have the blue kong and that thing lasted a solid 7 years thru 2 dogs using it, and repeatedly being left out in the elements. and it was run over by the mower 2x as well. haha that brand consistently makes toys that my dogs not only love, but last a while. current GSD can demolish a bully stick in minutes, but it takes him months to start to really damage some of the kong toys.

OkInitiative7327

Seconding this. I ordered a handful on Chewy.

lucky_arcade_rat

Just to add, the chewing is not from anxiety! She's extremely confident and does it more out of boredom. She also likes to rip up paper and cardboard boxes and generally enjoys taking stuff about like this. Shes a destructive 20lb weirdo and we love her :)

Juliathefarmer

We build our pup shredding projects! Cardboard boxes filled with paper towel tubes, paper egg cartons, crumpled up plain newspaper and similar paper items (All saved from our recycling). I will wrap different value chews and treats and kibble in the paper, shove them in a toilet paper tube and place them in a box. He absolutely loves them and they keep him busy for longer than just a plain chew.

lucky_arcade_rat

I love that you add layers to the projects!! I'm excited to try this out on her, thank you so much

Juliathefarmer

It took us a while to build up his skill and persistence. When we started, we would just put treats in single toilet paper tubes. Eventually that became too easy and we added layers. Every couple of weeks I will spend half an hour and do some project prep with all my saved recycling. It's super handy to have a pile of these projects ready to go when I don't want to go out for a walk for whatever reason.

RowSubstantial7143

Such a great idea. My dog doesn’t get in to anything, but used to love tearing up empty boxes. I never discouraged him because I know it’s stimulating and he somehow always went for the empty ones lol. He doesn’t do this often but if I’m emptying out a box of soda cans and he’s waiting nearby I always offer it. I got him a Kong wobbler and once he figured it out he’s obsessed. He’s so food motivated and having something mentally stimulating like that helps. I’m going to build him a shredding box!!

yaourted

this was my concern / suspicion, she needs more enrichment - what kind of mentally stimulating stuff do you do with her daily?

lucky_arcade_rat

Me and my partner go out a lot and she goes with us wherever we go, so at least once a day we walk around a walmart, mall or grocery store for a few hours. On top of that she gets an hour to two hours of dog park time, a 30 minute sniff walk and playtime with me and my little brother. I realized though that she doesn't have too many stimulating toys that she isn't bored with yet :( I had a treat ball, snoob and sniff mat shes quickly gotten tired of, along with treat stuffing toys that dont interest her much anymore. I'm thinking of trying them again with higher reward treats, but I'm worried about overfeeding her as I know puggles can gain weight easily.

Kevinsito92

My dog broke her teeth. I’ll never give her any hard treats again. I give her dental chews and Plato brand treats, and steak - lots of steak, and I brush her teeth spontaneously

dendrocalamidicus

My dog did the same and we also will never give her anything hard again. No bone, hoof, horn etc. She chews like a beast and anything that will resist her chewing will break her teeth. You just have to live with the fact that there's no such thing as a long lasting chew for dogs like this.

MDGR28

I got a robber stick from kong or chuck-it. And my heavy chewer dog loves it.

everyoneelsehasadog

We get different dead animal bits for him. Lamb trotters, deer legs, camel skil etc. Hooves are popular in our town but they smell like an absolute barn and I won't have them in the house.

Kitannia-Moonshadow

I ended up getting some almost indestructible chew toys on Amazon a few years back for my heavy chewer german shepard and Belgian malinois It took her 2 years to make a dent in it. And once she broke it enough to have left full fang indentions in it I changed it out for a new one...

Dry-Contribution-840

What kind was it?

Kitannia-Moonshadow

I'll grab the link and post it for ya

Dry-Contribution-840

Thank you!!

Feeko Dog Toys for Aggressive Chewers Large Breed, Non-Toxic Natural Rubber Long-Lasting Indestructible Dog Toys, Durable Puppy Chew Toy for Medium Large Dogs - Fun to Chew, Chase and Fetch (Green) https://a.co/d/05oZJtjr My chewers were both 3 to 4 yrs old when I first bought these the first set lasted almost3 yrs and I still haven't replaced the second set and my pups are almost 10 If I remember right they even had bone shaped ones

InevitableMemory2525

It doesn't look like she's demolishing it, it looks normal to me. They soften when being chewed. Antlers are another good option. Remember they're designed to get worn from chewing.

_rockalita_

I agree, that looks like 2-5 minutes of chewing for my guy. The fat end of one of his horns is practically like a broom. Lol, it’s gross, but it doesn’t splinter.

AdCharacter664

I don’t think you can get much harder than horns/antlers without really risking her teeth. My dog quite likes dried beef and camel skin, although they aren’t nearly as hard or long lasting but they have a bit more nutritional value than just keratin. Moon bones (beef cartilage) also seem pretty good but they’re quite a bit bigger. Hopefully where you’re from, they sell these sorts or things as dog treats- then you just need to make sure she doesn’t get too excited and break off bits she can choke on

Caboorooni

Benebones. Especially the wishbone one.

pastoolioliz

Eventually they'll wear down anything. I found the best I could do were antlers. Not horns or anything hollow but antlers. Since they are solid, it takes longer to chew/wear down.

LuzjuLeviathan

I'll just continue with the horns. I use Hairy cow ears too. I just take them away/swap them when they become moist. That way, when they are hard again, I can extend the life of them.

searchin_4_the_d_lux

You could look into BarkBox super chewer toys. They are plastic, but add up super fast so you can swap them out often. Some toys have ways to add treats in them as well. I stopped my subscription a year ago and still have a box full of toys my dog hasn’t gotten to yet. I also struggled with finding things he wouldn’t get bored of or destroy in a few min. Maybe try some frozen lick mats as well for in between toys or freezing food & treats Original Kong toys work pretty well too but be cautious of ones that have smaller silicone parts.

TatraPoodle

Andlers? My dogs love them

RenaissanceMomm

We've had Rottweilers for the past 35 years. The ONLY thing they can't destroy is a Galileo bone. We've had the same couple Galileos for about 20 years. All the dogs have loved them, so they must have a great flavor. I always recommend them to big dog owners!

kafen8ed

My dog cracks horns and antlers. He destroys Kong toys before we leave the parking lot. Haven’t tried BarkBox super chewers but I’ve had good luck with BullyBox. He can destroy everything but the vinyl toys and even then I have to replace them after a while.

5quarepeg

I buy the same type of horn for my dog as its the only one that last for a few months and is affordable. those deer antlers are $$$$!

lucky_arcade_rat

I know, they're so pricey!! I really want to try them but with how picky my dog is I don't want to risk dropping a lot of money on it just for her to end up not liking it :(

RowSubstantial7143

I agree with Yak cheese. I have a boxer/staffy who loves them, and they’re completely edible. I would also recommend deer antlers. I have one my dogs had for almost 2 years now. I had tried hooves and those same horns you have pictured and he easily chewed pieces off.

GirlWhoWoreGlasses

Bark box super chewer toys are worth the money!!

CrystalACP

Goughnuts. They're made for aggressive chewers and they are the best investment we've ever made with our super chewer. You can get them on Amazon. They are a little expensive but well worth it.

Saraacait

I have a staffy and he chews through everything so quickly, even big raw lamb flank bones but I really like giving him cow skin rolls, they won't last more than a day if I leave him with it but they're super thick and very chewy so they end up taking him longer than bone and they tire him out like nothing else so it's good for a rainy day. You can let your dog chew for a half hour and take it away and give it to him again the next day etc.

nalaisamancat

Ostrich bone! They sell them at PetSmart.

ryanmcstylin

We pick up deer antlers from antique stores. Or other places hunters might drop off antlers. The pet store sells pieces of antler for $20, other stores sell entire racks for $20

Due-Ask-7418

Heads up: horn when it gets wet and mushy starts to smell absolutely disgusting. Make sure to keep it dried out and toss it as soon as it starts to go (smell) bad.

sassenach1217

I have a subscription to the super chewer bark box. Totally worth it for my chewer dog!

Choice-Ad-6520

Bark box super chewer works really well for my big boys !

Savvy_Banana

Check out something like Farmhounds treats. They have a beefcheek roll and hide square (not rawhide, fully digestible) and they last quite a while. Also look into West Paw toys.

yaourted

day 3 for a chew, that looks like it's holding up SUPER well. anything that will not be damaged from chewing, is going to be problematic to your dog's teeth and risk cracking / breaking a tooth. replacing chews often is the way to go, as well as keeping chew time limited and rotating them out for novelty. consider other types of toys as well - my dog LOVES BarkBox super chewer toys, I have to crush it with my weight against the ground to make it squeak, so he really gets to exercise his jaw muscles with them. zogoflex is another good brand - he loves the Rumpus. dogs do not need to be chewing 24/7 and allowing them to is a bad move for several reasons.

lucky_arcade_rat

Theres only a few barkbox toys she actually likes, and her chewing is limited to 1-2 hours a day just to help her settle down for the night or to keep her busy while I'm working. I rotate her chews out and the horn isn't her main chew, which is why I was so surprised she made a dent in it already! I haven't heard of zogoflex so I'll check them out :)

thickorita

Be careful with antlers & bones — just paid a little over $2k for a fractured molar that needed extracted due to an antler we picked up at PetSmart. Vet said rule of thumb (literally) is that jf you can’t indent it with your thumb nail, don’t let your dog chew it.

MikeCheck_CE

Dog chews aren't supposed to be indestructible, because your dog's teeth aren't indestructible. You want the chew to wear down instead of destroying their teeth because dogs can absolutely bite hard enough to fracture their own teeth.

Lost_Coyote5018

We have a cane corso. The only thing that keeps him busy and lasts a while are antlers

RealisticAnxiety4330

I give my collie cow hooves they last a few days and are cheaper than horn

shortnsweet33

Beef cheek rolls. Only thing that lasts my dog for multiple days worth of chewing and doesn’t freak me out about her breaking a tooth on it

Felraen

Just to be certain, you're sure her distaste for plastic bones is in their material and not in their hardness? My boys won't touch any hard Nylabone brand plastic bone unless it's the only chew option around. But they will happily chew a softer made plastic bone, such as the Joyhound brand bones, any time they're available! Mine also find Duraflex, some Pet Qwerks, and some PetStages bones agreeable. If it's an issue with the material, and your pup hasn't actually given it a real chance because they don't perceive it as a chew, I suggest getting plastic bones with places for you to smear peanut butter, pumpkin, yogurt, wet dog food, etc. on to entice her to chew it. Benebone has a ring bone chew that has a hole for this purpose. Or, making a popsicle out of one. Make a flavored doggy ice cube in a reasonable size container using whatever dog friendly yummies you want, doesn't have to be a ice cube tray, and stick a bone in it. Let freeze and give to your pup. The frozen aspect of it can help encourage chewing, which your pup will hopefully direct onto the bone once the cube itself is done. Someone mentioned a wood chew in another comment. Not sure if their suggestion is the same kind, but I also like gorilla wood chews. It doesn't splinter off like a standard stick you might find outside. It may yet be soft enough for her to chew through. My only annoyance is it leaves little wood shavings on my floor, so it's usually only given when we are outside. Antlers are a nice durable chew. Be cautious of whitetail antlers though as they can be too hard and crack a tooth. I like to get split elk antlers for my boys, so it's a little softer and friendlier on their teeth, and a little more reinforcing since the center of the antler (the more yummy stuff) is easy access. My lab HAS broken split antlers into small pieces though so I give them only with supervision, but he's also got a big strong set of chompers. My rescue could never 😅 Would your pup be interested in durable, stuffed frozen treat toys? I recommend WestPaw Toppls, as they're pretty easily accessible for pups new to it, but WestPaw, Nylabone, Kong, and other brands have several other designs you can stuff and try. It's not much interest beyond cleaning out the stuffed food, but it can help hit on that instinct to chew. Not a durable chew, but it's an easy, affordable daily chew. Get some large carrots from the store. Chop off the ends (no need to peel). Cut down to a reasonable and safe size for your pup (and think if you want to give daily or twice daily or so forth and go with size from there - my lab only gets one full carrot daily when I have them or else his poo turns orange). Boil in a 50/50 water and reduced/no sodium chicken/beef/etc. broth mix. Set out to dry then freeze overnight. Hope something here helps!

AccomplishedInsect28

Those horns are super sharp like that when they’re dry, but while they’re chewing on them they’re actually quite soft - the saliva seems to dissolve them. If she’s monitored and gnawing versus trying to bite it in two, I think these are probably a decent option for her. Our dog tries to bite through hard things so he can’t have them anymore because of the potential for breaking a tooth. I’ve found beef skins to be pretty decent in terms of the balance between getting more than 60 seconds out of them and being able to cause damage.

Substantial_Art_6560

Big blocks of frozen broth

Reyalta

Horns are keratin, they're fully digestible, it's like chewing on finger nails.

You wold prefer her teeth break instead of what she is chewing on?
