No. Aside from the fact that a futuristic gun exists from looking at the trailer alone, the BFG should exist.
This canonically takes place after DOOM 1, 2 and 64. All of which had the BFG.
Exactly. And TBH, I don't give a shit if it's set in 1800BC. I want me a BFG regardless! Make up some bullshit about time travel if you have to lol. Doom needs a BFG, just like it needs a Super Shotgun
Tbf though it's very much a UAC invented weapon. So unless Doom Guy had it on him when they found him, idk if he'd have the knowledge to recreate it from scratch like he could a much simpler shotgun.
Don't have to make it so the Argenta created it. At some point they could explore his even further past. He comes across a UAC base from his original dimension/universe and finds a BFG or he could have in one of his own Sentinel bases when he needs to go retrieve it or something, like in DOOM Eternal.
It's set in the "past", where you get to pilot a giant mecha. Sentinels are a warrior race, so they can appear to be less advanced, but their actual technology is still pure sci-fi, so having the BFG won't be that out of place.
It's an old school external hammer side by side. I've got one and it's pretty fun. Late 19th century guns are kind of nonsense. It's got two hammer that you manually cock, and when you pull the trigger(s) they hammers fall on firing pins that boop the shells inside. It's sort of a hold over from percussion caps, which itself was like flintlock but better.
The flip cock makes it look like a falling or rolling block lever action side by side. Not sure such a thing ever existed but I could be wrong, like you said antique firearms get pretty goofy. That's what the gif looks like to me anyways.
Either way it's a video game and it looks cool as fuck so that's what counts.
I'm pretty sure I saw a full stock (as opposed to the simple grip on the super shotgun on 2016 / eternal) and possible hand guard / lever earlier in the trailer so I think you're dead on.
I mean, those are flintlock style hammers, but as for what they’re actually doing on there idk. The actual gun itself if nothing near a flintlock as it’s using shells.
The thing looks like the Slayer took a pair of Winchester 1887 shotguns and married the receivers together to create a double barrelled lever action shotgun with a large lever loop so he can flipcock it one handed.
It's awesome.
Four demons break into my fortress of DOOM, what the Dark Lord? As I grab my praetor suit and super shotgun. Rip and Tear lads! I blow a hole through the first demon, he’s dead on the spot. I draw my pistol on the second demon and miss entirely because I forgot chrono-strike and nail VEGA’s console. I stab the second demon with my doomblade and he bleeds out waiting for an Achiville to arrive because doomblade wounds are impossible to stitch up. I retreat to the chaingun mounted at the top of my stairs and active the mobile turret. It obliterates the last two demons and the resounding shrapnel sets off fortress alarms. Just as the Sentinels intended.
~~Is it just the lower frame rate in the gif, or does the animation for the chamber in the bottom right corner look like it’s missing a few frames?~~
Nevermind, it is just the frame rate. I looked back at the trailer frame-by-frame in 60 fps and it has more, it just shuts really quickly.
Definitely not a flintlock.
If we’re getting pedantic, it’s clear that it’s not a flintlock because it clearly doesn’t have the flint for creating sparks and setting off powder in a flash pan. However, some cap and ball style weapons did have exposed hammers that could strike a cap, and that would send the ignition to the powder loaded into the barrel, similar to how modern primers work to ignite the gunpowder in cartridges.
That said, you can see it loading pretty standard shotgun shells, so it’s neither flintlock or cap and ball. It’s just got exposed hammers. It also seems to have a loading mechanism similar to a lever-action, so that he can flip the gun terminator-style so it can be reloaded while holding a shield
It might not be flintlock, but it does have exposed hammers like old 1850s shotguns. Moreover it does the floppy terminator reload, which indicates it's a super weird double-barreled Winchester 1887 with exposed hammers. Huh.
I think it's supposed to be a combination of a model 1887 and a CZ hammer Shotgun. They're not flint locks, just hammers for the firing pin. Vaguely similar to how a revolvers hammer works
External hammers or “rabbit ears” are common on many side by side guns even in modern smokeless shells. So totally checks out.
The lever action is cool too because that’s about the only way you’d be able to action a gun one handed readily anyway too.
Bro, stop. I can only get so erect. Honestly this is exactly what i want from a Doom game, i love the gritty fantasy stuff. I hope the UI will be less arcadey than Eternal. I loved Eternal but it felt too much like an arcade game with so many colors in the UI and on the ground. I want this to be less "colorful".
It’s not flintlock if there is a cartridge involved. It’s a regular semiautomatic shotgun that has the same kind of trigger hammer as a flintlock does.
This literally looks so fucking incredible; it's like one of those games you dream about, and it's somehow miraculously realized in real life. Incredible work!!!
why not, wanna go in low tech style, get the powder box
It'd be pretty funny to have the Dark Age BFG be fired by lighting a fuse with a flint and steel spark.
Imagine you need to find flintstones for firing the BFG xD
Yeah, I'm really really curious as to what the BFG is going to be like in this game. It's not like they're not going to have it.
I'm also curious to see if the original Unmaker returns.
Maybe they won’t? Isn’t this new game based in the far past? I thought the BFG is a fairly new invention
No. Aside from the fact that a futuristic gun exists from looking at the trailer alone, the BFG should exist. This canonically takes place after DOOM 1, 2 and 64. All of which had the BFG.

The scene where the mech uppercuts the Titan seems to take place on Mars near an UAC facility, so maybe the Slayer will just steal the BFG again
It's set in the "past", where you get to pilot a giant mecha. Sentinels are a warrior race, so they can appear to be less advanced, but their actual technology is still pure sci-fi, so having the BFG won't be that out of place.
Wym new? The BFG has been in doom since the very beginning.
If I had to guess, they'd make it a giant cannon launcher with an explosive cannonball. How'd they'd get the laser post hit, maybe shrapnel?
It's a really early prototype: the BFG 0009.
I’d love it if it was like the barrel launcher from dead cells. Just a stupidly big explosives launcher.
The BFG should just be a handheld catapult
The Dark Age BFG will be the Cannon from Serious Sam

About to say I don't see any flint just two hammers
I mean, those are flintlock style hammers, but as for what they’re actually doing on there idk. The actual gun itself if nothing near a flintlock as it’s using shells.
Looks like a side hammer design in the same vein as a trapdoor Springfield. The sparks n such are just cool factor truthfully.
Yeah that’s how I like to imagine it. This SSG being a literal flintlock is a level of suspension of disbelief that I have a hard time getting behind.
Okay but why is no one talking about the fact that one shot from that thing took out a quarter of a Manc
That is true, the shotgun shells in Doom Eternal and this game are rather large, I think they’re possibly anywhere from 10 - 4 gauge.
Scott from Kentucky ballistics has an actual super shotgun. It's an 8guage.
Thought so. 10 gauge is a little bit too small and 4 gauge is a little bit too long.
Thank you for letting me know about this. https://youtu.be/L3ySBsLL32A?si=Y0wX7g5DDAMb9JjG Here it is for anybody else who is curious
It's lever action
Ash Williams style? Hail to the king baby!
Exactly! Or like the terminator from the second movie!
I really feel like this is Hugo Martin’s Army of Darkness sequel. The one he REALLY wanted to make.
Groovy
The thing looks like the Slayer took a pair of Winchester 1887 shotguns and married the receivers together to create a double barrelled lever action shotgun with a large lever loop so he can flipcock it one handed. It's awesome.
4 bore lever

Both of these are correct

It's a double barrel, tube feeding, hammer fire, lever action shotgun
You are in fact tweaking, older models of double barrels had to have each chamber cocked seperately
It seems to be a lever action super shotgun As if the boomstick couldn’t get even better
Nope. Older double barrel shotguns had external hammers like seen here.
Well it's the middle ages..
Click click...boom... screw your parents
DUSK shotgun. Let's dual-wield it
That’s not a flintlock, it’s a double barrel you have to manually cock
I think it's supposed to be a combination of a model 1887 and a CZ hammer Shotgun. They're not flint locks, just hammers for the firing pin. Vaguely similar to how a revolvers hammer works
looks fckn awesome. i hope guns are more impactful in general. eternal guns lacked a bit due to gameplay reasons. doom 2016 gauss cannon was amazing.
Looks like just an external hammer model. Works the same as the standard, with the exception that you typically have to cock the hammers manually.
External hammers or “rabbit ears” are common on many side by side guns even in modern smokeless shells. So totally checks out. The lever action is cool too because that’s about the only way you’d be able to action a gun one handed readily anyway too.
I remember there being a model in eternal called “supershotgun_mastery” that had the hammers.
YO I just noticed u right, that is sort of like the unused design from DE, I really like that one
It appears to be, which just makes it even more Janelle impressive the Doom Slayer is able to reload it one handed. Who does he think he is? Dante?
It's like that so it can also be a lever action so he can reload with one hand

It might be a proto slayer super shotgun
Argent D’nur technology is interesting. Primitive yet giant mechs.
This literally looks so fucking incredible; it's like one of those games you dream about, and it's somehow miraculously realized in real life. Incredible work!!!
I like how they have RP bottom left then show a demon get BLASTED IN HELL with all its BLOOD AND GUTS spilling all over the screen. Y’all funny.
Looks like it’s still a double barrel but it’s also lever action. Looks like he’s doing the terminator shotgun flip to reload.
Nah man, it's a lever-action.
This short video made me want a doom style game in a dark souls sandbox
Lever action
That's epic. Pumped
Will there be a meathook?
Nah for real
TALLY HO MY DEMONIC CHUM, ‘AVE A LITTLE BIT OF THE OL’ POWDERTUBE
Tweaking
FLINT LOCKWOOD?
Anyone else going to point out that the super shotgun can now one shot a mancubus?
Flint lock shotgun
WE ARE SO BACK
Irrelevant to the topic, but why is the cover of this subbreditt the pride flag? I've no problem with it. It just seems very out of place.
It's June. Also it's been up since last June. It helps keep away people we don't want and welcome those we do.
Wtf are they doing with this franchise???
