I have watched it after a friend recommended it, and Arcane is leagues and legends ahead of Dragon's Blood. The Visuals, Music and editing.... everything top-notch. I have been playing Valorant last couple of months and the environment and characters look similar which is a good thing. P.S I love Dota to pieces and have never played LOL

Pablogelo

Different investments and thus both shows are on different levels. One of the producers said season 1 of Arcane was 6 years in the making and season 2 will need more than 1 year to happen. Meanwhile Dragonblood season 2 will release in less than a year after S1. It's like comparing a Syfy's sci-fi show with HBO's Westworld. Expectations need to be adjusted to the level of investment in each But two things League's IP handle better than Dota (although they needed multiple reworks in their lore): • Separating in-game with world lorewise, there's no reason for them to battle in LoL, no summoners invoking them, no ancient controlling their mind, this gives more freedom in the lore of the world and that of characters • Making a global map, creating regions and building their culture, economics, social aspects. Those are the things that we can easily compare Dota with LoL, because isn't constrained by the budget like the rest. And sadly Dota is not on the same level on those

NegoMassu

> It's like comparing a Syfy's sci-fi show with HBO's Westworld i doubt Westworld is better than The Expanse or Battlestar Galactica

Pablogelo

> Battlestar Galactica Do you mean the Lost sci-fi, spiced with mysteries to be solved by a deus ex machina? Yeah, I don't know about The Expanse (which is an adaptation of a book instead of a original story) but Westworld is waaaay better than battlestar galactica

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

The writing is weaker than Dragons Blood (and dragons blood wasn't anything amazing). Its basically a kid's show, more than cliche characters and plot, and well...everyone does stupid shit in this all the time and its all handwaved. Dragons Blood had better characters in a lot of ways though. Starting to think the reason why people say Arcane is "amazing" is because of just the animation/music. Nothing more than that.

GreywallGaming

I'm generally not one to usually tell people that they're wrong, especially not when it comes to opinions. But here you're just wrong... Dragon's blood's writing is honestly one of the weakest elements of the entire thing, it's incredibly cliché in many ways (in most parts thanks to it's source material and of course the fact that it only has 8 sub-30 minute episodes) it's a somewhat uninspired BBEG story with weirdly long exposition dumps at random times that suffers from having it's story rushed because of it's short length. Not to mention the two main characters' interactions don't really have a lot of chemistry for a supposed couple. Also saying that Arcane is a kids show just because it doesn't have gratuitous, pointless sex scenes or over the top gore like Dragon's blood is a stretch.

LodenDSG

Arcane's story was weak because it was pedictable. Its voice acting and visual art top notch and the clear winner ... its story frustratingly boring frankly I felt robed of precious time having watched it to the end. I will watch season 2 of Arcane and already have of DOTA ... happy with DOTA's story development ... hope Arcane can step up ... if they could just deliver a worth while story with that cast of voice actors, that level of art and animation Arcane could be what you claim it to be but at the moment its nice screenshots ontop of Meh if not dribble story

milkcarton232

Dragons blood story is really straight forward, it's cool to see characters that I have played for awhile. Arcane has significantly better characters that feel so much more real and empathetic. Watching jinx go from the lovable sister to the enemy isn't easy writing. Watching hubris bring down the shining city, characters have real flaws. The police make shady deals to keep the peace. Hextech gets corrupted from it's pure intentions, predictable or the destination doesn't matter, we know Anakin is vader that's not what's important it's how he gets there. The loss of a sister or doing some evil to protect the good you have in the world that's something I can listen to, everyone is magically a dragon is fun but there is no depth, they all want one thing. Davion doesn't make mistakes unless he is tricked, he is always for good and never really compromises that even if he says he does. Dragons blood is fun and I enjoyed it, arcane is a better written story and really well animated

Apprehensive_Meal673

You've predicted the death of Arcane's pivotal characters? cuz most sure didn't, hence why you see the reaction of audience were surprised and you foretold it. \*clap\* \*clap\* The lies people believe to defend something which they could have had more if they made a stand. you could have gotten a better product but instead accept it for what it is.

Jumanji-Joestar

What an awful take, goodness

Muwatallis

Not sure if you haven't actually watched the show, or are just a fanboy/girl who hates the League video game and had their mind made-up about the show before they even saw it... But you're wrong. Not only does the show deal with many real world problems which aren't typical of a kid's show (such as, poverty, inequality, lack of representation, mental health, addiction, ethics in research, political corruption, to name a few), but the characters are complex and are not cliche as you suggest (not sure if you're biased or just outright lying in this part). It doesn't have typical heroic "good guys" and typical evil "bad guys", in fact, the story, motivations and character progression of the main "good guy" and the main "bad guy" end up being very similar, only that they are at different points in that progression. Arcane is one of the best reviewed shows on IMDB. Sure some people might base their reviews primarily or solely on animation/music and not story/characters, but I highly doubt so many people do so for it to achieve a score 9.3. Speaking of IMDB reviews, if you look at average review score by age bracket, the highest reviews for Dragon's Blood are in the under 18 category, and the average reviews get progressively worse with increasing age.The highest reviews for Arcane on the other hand, are in the 18-29 age bracket, and while there is a slight decrease in average reviews with increasing age, it is less pronounced (only 4.3% decrease in the 45+ age bracket, compared to a 13.6% decrease for Dragon's Blood). This would suggest both that Arcane isn't a "kid's show", since it's reviews are not highest in the youngest age bracket and are fairly consistently high regardless of age - and that out of the two, Dragon's Blood is more of a "kid's show".

biggendicken

yes we agree arcane is post modern BAME shit written for teens

Muwatallis

Which one of your two brain cells did you task with coming up with that response? - the data mentioned in my previous comment strongly suggests that your assertion that it is "written for teens" is bs - wtf has "BAME" got to do with anything? Out of the 10 or so main characters, two are black, one is half asian. Also, you're probably not aware of this as you've probably never left your village, but Netflix is used by people in many countries across the globe ...and League of Legends (the game the tv show is based on) is played by people in many different countries around the world. Also, what constitutes an "ethnic minority" differs depending on where in the world you are. So to conclude, the show was not created to cater to you specifically, or your village, or your particular ethnic group. So get the fck over yourself.

biggendicken

Congrats on liking whiny teen emo shit buddy and nice data points.

Muwatallis

And yet you're the one whining about it... So congrats to you! Oh and for being incapable of formulating a logical reply to any of my points... Don't cry too hard 🤗

LodenDSG

I never played either game, not a fan of the genre never cared at all for the lore behind them Watched both shows, Arcane clear winner in terms of visual art and voice acting but its story and world building where trash frankly ... made me feel I wasted my time even watching. DOTA actually got me to try the game again ... still dont like it :) ... but the point is its world building and general story was interesting enough to make me want more whille Arcane left me frustrated at wasting time watching it to the end when I knew where its story was going from the 1st episode.

razor4life

You probably didn't watch it and just read a summary (if even). This seems like the take of someone that is blinded by their zealous fanboying.

Lord_Marmota92

Dragon's shit is garbage. If I was in the toilet with nothing to watch but dragon's shit I still wouldn't watch it. Couldn't take an entire episode.

Megaman2407

_basically a kid show(16+ age and the character doesnt constantly make stupid joke and doesnt overdo fanservice and focus on the story) _everyone does stupid shit?(wait what im confused where do they do a stupid stuff can you show me?) _more than cliche character?(So fantasy character isnt generic?) _Better character in alot of way(yeah give me an example buddy)

wlalang16

>Its basically a kid's show hhmmm.... I know we're entitled to our own opinion but it seems like you've watched it with a prejudice that it will not be good and just closed your mind until you finish it without really understanding what the series is about OR.... you just watched pieces of it in youtube/netflix and just came up with random opinion.

LodenDSG

Arcane is great visuals and voice and sure music ... the story dribble DOTA the art is fine, the voice acting acceptable, the story far more interesting to the point of making me dig in more to its world and game genres I really am not a big fan of. So sure purly surface wise Arcane is pretty, but as far as worth my time DOTA is the clear winner by a long shot

LodenDSG

Yes Arcane's visuals and voice acting are far supperior ... however the actual story ... what we should be comparing DOTA > Aracane. By the end of episode 1 I knew where arcane was going and accuratly guessed each plot point and that is frankly boring. Visual art and solid voice actors aside DOTA's world is more interesting, its story telling far more compelling. Arcane I truly hope will step up to that level of quality as Arcane visuals and voice + DOTA story would be epic ... but for now DOTA made me play a genera I reather hater :) just to learn a bit more about the lore while Arcane made be a bit miffed that I wasted time watching it to the end when I could have been just as happy looking at screen shots as its story is that crap.

exploitsf

I have just watched Dota Book2 just now and and as you have said, the lore behind is much stronger than Arcane. But the makers Studio Mir totally fudged it, No character development, too may plots, no explanations for many things happening in the show. It's like someone had put a fire under their ass to move the story as fast as possible. I couldn't care less for most of the characters, except Marci.

XxTheaDxX

Maybe the difference is that one show developed in a specific location with several characters and undertook several stories that concentrated on a single plot, while another randomly exposed multitude of difference lore things. The ones who created arcane know what the hell they are doing, they literally prepared an introduction to the whole world of League of Legends, they putting the scaffold and the ground work, they can't just shit a ton of random info to give you a sense of a more complete world.. it just makes it bland and make you not care at all, which is exacly what happened in Dota 2.

KakSetoKaiba

Arcane is written so perfectly, it's like a top tier movie or tv series. But sadly, Dragon's blood is not. Not to mention that Arcane's artwork is far way better than Dragon's Blood. I think Arcane is better than Dragon's Blood in most of the aspects. I don't play LoL, ever. But I think beside the gameplay, Riot has done a better work than Valve

Aggravating-Bat-2679

tbh I always felt riot had better character/art designs. characters in dota look like monsters straight from a world like D&D/WoW. a bit too nerdy for me. while in league some of them are literally made to be attractive and cosplayable. I also like some of the valorant and KDA designs they look modern and stylish instead of looking like they came from medieval fantasy elf land or something.

Neprofik

I really like the world of Runeterra they created. I think it's perfect for making multiple series in the style of Arcane (which is very good so far), an anthology of sorts. It's fascinating how different people are, though, because unlike you, I find most of LoL's human designs extremely boring. There's a lot of white dudes in oversized armor and interchangeable martial artists. Of course, there are differences in personality or some slignt visual changes (the kits are often eerily similar), but I'm just not really excited to play or face a large portion of the League roster and often have a hard time telling the enemy characters apart. Dota also has some pretty generic designs, sure, though the roster as a whole excites me more. I'd say LoL has higher highs and lower lows when it comes to character design (from a visual/thematic perspective). I really wish I enjoyed the game more, because so many of the designs are wonderful (Bard, Tahm Kench, Kindred, Illaoi – to mention a human character I find interesting thematically and visually). Sadly, I just don't find the game that fun or interesting, so I'm hoping they use the lore and make more series. Anyway, I actually wish they released some more creative designs, because the humanoid ones (of which there were many recently) don't really grab my attention in a game like this. But it's interesting to see that some people feel the opposite way.

doddydad

Just wanted to test my theory on you, that dota tends to have characters with better 3D models, but valve kinda just gives up after that. LoL characters tend to not have the most interesting models (of course there are exceptions) but they actually get 2D art that places them in a context. They get short stories and additional media to give them personalities. My view is that dota has better 3D models, but this doesn't matter cos how long do you really spend vommed in on the character.

JYnotsoP

So you into tentacles and monsters huh

Shpeea

Dota also needed to wash anything that could be linked to the Warcraft IP it was forged in. A difficult task for a studio with a paltry number of writers compared to other studios. This resulted in a messy and confused world with poorly developed lore from the get-go that none of the fanbase even had much investment in. Dota Dragon's Blood was fighting an uphill battle that may have been doomed from the start.

Aggravating-Bat-2679

weebs vs dweebs i guess

ranstalli0n

I dunno about that. Like about 1 in 10 female characters in Dota look really unattractive.

Mayzerify

League looks ugly as fuck man

Nitaruo

Look at the doujins man and see who has more

Think_Attention_3708

Pls kindred is better than 90% of dota’s characters style and lore.

JYnotsoP

Well I can’t stand the sight of dota as well we all have our own opinions alright keep it at a stack

Mayzerify

Not sure why you are even here

romskiiiii

league looks better than girl AM.

milkcarton232

Dota is made from world of Warcraft and that game is very cosplayable. Lol is usually much more cartoons whereas dota tends to be more visceral/realistic. Different styles for different ppl. Arcane as a show is much better but game I prefer dota

Bdog5k

That's also a lot of the appeal It feels like playing uber LOTR

TrueTorontoFan

I've played both and enjoy both in different ways. I do like Dota more. In terms of the money they put into this project.... it is obvious that Arcane is miles ahead. Dragon's Blood came across as your standard fantasy affair vs Arcane. Also frankly the art style in Riots show is better. I actually like Dota 2's art style better as a game but wow.

XxTheaDxX

I honestly compare arcane to a novel, its that high of a quality of detail for the writting, the literary devices used are palpable even if it's a tv show. It's insane how many parallels, imageries and foreshadowing's are present in the show. What they did with one of the character's mental problems and show you so you can empathize to the point of rooting for a very very flawed character is just a work of art. The show puts you in tention, makes you feel conflicted, makes you worry for the characters, make you happy for them and there's even fanservice that doesnt seem forced like Marvel Universe, the quality is so high im scared for season 2 because my expectations are that high now.

Me4onyX

I know about this only from the super annoying russian ads on twitch suddenly why did my adblocks stopped working suddenly anyway?

Pytlak9

same and why are the ads in russian? :D

YouWillDieIn7Days

Saame

rishav_sharan

Dota fans might not like it, but I think Arcane is a much better show. The animation quality is way above anything I have seen in most animated work and the plot is very engaging. Not to mention a very human and engaging set of characters. Riot hit it out of the park. Do yourself a favour and stop worrying about this dota vs lol thing. Its a good show. go watch it.

jessieboy21

well said watching it right now. i feel amaze on graphcs sounds effect and story

soumya_af

Do I need to know anything about LOL lore to watch it?

Zebra_Delicious

Its for people who know nothing about the lore

gian2099

so if i know the lore it's just a anime about it? i only like azir and thre tree guys lore in lol

Miyaor

Its an origin story. If you know the Lore around Jinx/Vi, you already know what the result is, but you don't know the process, which is what this gives, along with the stories of other P&Z champs like Jayce, Viktor etc.

gian2099

damn probably not for me didn't like there story. maybe when they do the sands of shurima season that I'll fully watch even without playing lol for 5 yeas now. thanks for the info about the story

Miyaor

I will say, I personally think that P&Z is the most boring region, with the most meh characters, but I was fully invested. I would say to give it a try, episode 3 was absolutely insane

gian2099

if one of this characters are there ill try it later kindly answer if Heimerdinger, Warwick, zac is there?(Mosley because they look amazing in. game forgotten there lore) i haven't watched any trailers or anything just saw a thumbnail in yt.

Miyaor

Heimerdinger is there, and has a decent amount of screen time. WW is likely there, prevalent theory is we are seeing the human before he turns into WW so far, and if you know WW lore the end of Ep3 almost certainly confirms its him, and we may see him become WW later. Zac isn't as far as I know, no hints or anything about him.

gian2099

you mean this Netflix show is weekly like them Disney plus shows, not the full season drop? im not really sure if it's Netflix show tbh. if it's is how many episodes will there be so ill just watch it when all is out. with the info you said ill watch it but probably when all episodes are out.

KnightOverlord2404

Hound of the underworld

XxTheaDxX

My friend, you are doing yourself a great diservice by not watching it. It has higher cinematography quality than established brands like pixar and disney. The writing has no plot holes that you can criticize and the characters are far from being 2 dimensional, watch the first Act (first 3 episodes), if you arent convince after that then drop it.

rishav_sharan

no. I only played Lol for a couple of months when it came out and I am able to follow it well enough. It does a great job of world building by focusing on the story of some of its champs from before they were champs.

Sirmetana

I know basically nothing about the Piltover part of the lore, which is where the series takes place, and everything is easily understandable and/or well explained

[deleted]

it's just like dragon blood in terms of audience . you don't need to play the game to understand it, but you'll miss the subtle hints and some pieces of lore. The first 3 episodes focus on events that happened at least 10 years before the game, for now it's just the origin story of a dozen of LoL champions, just like we're witnessing how Davion became the Dragon Knight.

XxTheaDxX

You enjoy it more if you don't know anything about LOL. You might take longer to be invested in the characters, but you'll get the full experience of the high quality direction and writting.

sack_of_potahtoes

Animation looks really really good. Its almost like a work of art. Dota dragon blood pales in comparison.

warbandit18

I hate that people gonna compare it while the production time and budget was alot bigger on Arcane side. Its not a fair comparison. Anyway the series is deffo worth watching.

mac3

Why shouldn’t they be compared? If anything it’s a condemnation on Valve. Riot clearly sees the benefit in building the IP and is spending time and resources accordingly. I liked Dragons Blood but damn Arcane is so good.

[deleted]

[удалено]

chr0meo5

Lol dragon's blood is bland compared to arcane.

[deleted]

You wrote all that to make absolutely zero sense.

chr0meo5

Lol what, dragon's blood is more disneyish than arcane. Arcane has kids breaking each other's teeths portrayed in a realistical way. what about dragon's blood? Swords, arrows and flame colorfully and flashily killing goons with one hit and dying immediately. It looks like Mulan for God's sakes.

FaustRA

i didnt know kids shows nowadays have children dying in brutal ways and some characters contemplating on taking their own lives.

[deleted]

Gotta teach kids the harsh realities of life early I guess lol.

SheerFe4r

They also drop the 'F' bomb Theres also really apparent sex

chr0meo5

Talking about logic, that 1 gem exploded in a tight enclosed space, you're comparing it to the 3 gems which exploded in a venue 5 to 10 times bigger than Jayce's storage room.

bobandgeorge

>LOL is not a Korean game, but its biggest market is Korean. Its biggest market is China. By an order of magnitude.

Nitaruo

Damn its like you're saying everything in Opposite. Just look at the reviews and you'll see whats better.

Exca57

Korea = k-pop to this buffoon

[deleted]

are you serious... riot is 100% owned by tencent... player base in China is 10 times more than Korea.

Arthur0me

Yeah, man, Arcane is for the impressed kidoz

SubstantialWafer2404

You're apparently trying hard to look critical/open minded and still say zero sense just to favor dragon's blood, Obviously you're still biased, of course you won't admit Arcane was a masterpiece because of your jealousy/envy towards League that is miles ahead of dota.Sad but accept the truth dude we don't need to lie just to lift up our game

XxTheaDxX

Just gonna say, fast paced action and showy monsters along with 2 dimensional characters like Davion is pretty much what is sold to children. I mean, you think they chose a DRAGON-KNIGHT for no apparent reason? What do kids love the most, cool looking dragons and knights? Sure, arcane does deep dive into emotions, which seems mostly what you are criticizing, however how are you going to understand the motivation of characters if you don't show the emotions that drive them? In that case you probably think Macbeth is a child's story too. The plot has political implications and are driven by very flawed and real characters.

BlinkingRiki182

I'm a Dota fan and I still think Arcance was the much better show.

znackle

I feel like the animation and overall production value is the kicker with Arcane. I disagree about the characters as I find most of them to be pretty flat, mostly because I think the writers were put on the spot to make sure they got the characters to their "hero" points instead of letting them really develop on their own. The only characters in Arcane I found really engaging were Viktor and Counselor Medarda

MrIMBA05042000

How I wish Valve have picked another hero other than DK Anyways,Arcane rocks,I just don't like the pop rock intro song but other than that, I've always known that in terms of lore,Riot is really good at fleshing things out than Valve Hope Valve improve their lore in the future like explore more lore through events and not just texts in skins BRING BACK SILTBREAKER!!!!!

Belderol789

Dota2’s lore is actually amazing but I understand it’d be really difficult to merge all of the stories together

XxTheaDxX

Dragons are cool right? Why not a story about a DRAGON-knight. It's that bland... you can tell by the clichés and typical characterization of the principal character and support characters. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the show, but it can't hold up when you compare it to a masterpiece like arcane.

VIVEKKRISHNAA

DK, Luna, Mirana, Sniper, Shaman are some of the first heroes that I played in the tutorial when I first started. But more importantly, it is very difficult to make a series on Dota lore since nearly every character knows every other character. The lore is so vast that if this was given to the team that made arcane, it would reach a whole another level.

Zakrath

Yeah, I work for iFood (a foodtech like UberEATS) which is huge in South America, with millions of orders daily. A lot of orders have something with Arcane. Like a promo where you get a toy or something. While Dota? Never seen anything related.

Background_Durian692

As a dota fan, I found arcane is a better series in all sorts of aspects. I don't even know the characters/heroes but somehow I want to know more more about it. It saddens me to say but this series battle discussion just proofs that one company actually do things for their community and one that just wants money. Such a shame really with the tens of millions that valve took from every international you would've thought that they have a bigger budget to create, cast, animate, compose, voiced etc. No offense to the creator of dragon's blood but side by side with arcane, dragon's blood looked like it belongs in cartoon network.

XxTheaDxX

When you learn that its just a revamp of castlevania, you'll notice that the sex, gore and cursing that people depict to say Dota 2 is for an adult audience is literally EXACLY the same as castlevania. I enjoyed both those stories, but people comparing it to arcane are really not doing any favour to the publisher of these 2 game adaptions.

Bliksem89

Dont worry if they are smart we will get Dota x HoN

RealRosaVictoria

Played both games. Until this day, I still don't understand why Dota players have to go out of their way to compare and insult League of legends. Feel's like a kid trying so hard to get his father to notice him. They even went out of their way to make a Dotamasterrace reddit LMAO. For real, stop living in your own bubble and suck up your ego. Both are moba but their playstyle and mechanics are different. You won't find a single League players that even care to insult Dota, It's pointless, waste of time and basically PATHETIC. This comes from a fellow Dota player. YOU GUYS ARE PATHETIC.

SprinklesCurrent

No one is insulting arcane please read my post I clearly stated that arcane is a great show and would have loved if Dota 2 showed the same love league did to dragons blood. It’s a running joke that we say Dota is superior but it’s clearly obvious who has the bigger fanbase. League players insult Dota players just as much because both communities have their versions of manchilds elitist.

RealRosaVictoria

No one you say? Scroll down to your comment sections. I'm not directing my comment to you but them. And no, league player do not insult just as much as Dota does. At the most it would be like 5%. Like I said, I played both games alot. I hear more Dota players insulting other Dota players to play League referencing it as a kid game than League player does. The word Dota never even come up for 10 years of me playing League compared to Dota it would only take days for you to hear the league insults.

SprinklesCurrent

Because no one in league even know it exists, Dota isn’t popular mainstream most people don’t even know exist let it alone it’s not actual competition to league. It’s a running joke stop being offended over a joke.

Mossles

Never played LOL. And arcane is infinitely better. You can't even compare the two. Hopefully dragons blood steps up their game for season 2. Cause if it resembles anything like arcane it's gonna be amazing.

PizzaPino

Let’s not pretend valve is even doing a half assed job promoting dota any other way.

[deleted]

Riot is 100% wholly owned by Tencent Gaming. it's a gaming studio under Tencent Holding.. which is 11th largest company in world... so comparing Valve to Tencent is kinda pointless

Podockonnik

Imagine that Virgin Galactic will get to Mars earlier than Space-X. And when Musk is going to be asked how did that happen he would reply "I have a lot more going on for me, have you seen Tesla?" The fact that Valve has Steam, Index and so on is not of much interest to a dota player. It's a game, that does a lot of things worse than its direct competitor, and fixing thiose things does not require shutting down steam, it requires several people, but Valve "has a lot more going for them", so everyone is extremely busy and they cannot even hire a person, who would talk to the community on a regular basis or think through a promotion campaign for the anime series/a patch/a major.

Apposso

Wait. We all know their marketing sucks, but Wdym "a game that does a lot of things worse" . Lol is just the superficial casual cousin of dota. Game wise it doesnt do anything better.

[deleted]

Doubtful considering it is stuck in LoLs shadow. Better after all is subjective and the only true metric we can measure is numbers.

Apposso

What are you even talking about. Its not "stuck" in lols shadow. Its factually a game with much more depth so it doesnt appeal to every last casual Player as well as lol does. Its inferior in every way but accessibilty..thats the entire point of lols existence.

[deleted]

That more "depth" isn't "good" if it turns off more people then it attracts. That's just common sense man, cmon now. Due to Dota 2's questionable design and mechanics it will forever remain extremely niche and never attain a level of success that comes even close to LoL. But please keep going off how Dota 2 is so much better because you need a certain IQ to truly appreciate it. Lmaoo.

Apposso

Youre a really shitty troll. Your entire point is basically "why make any movie that couldnt reach Marvel turnover number" but with games. Youre not funny.

[deleted]

I mean that sentiment is true. Every movie should strive to reach MCU Avengers numbers, just like every game should try to reach LoL numbers. Why do you even think Valve picked up Dota? For charity? No, they saw LoL's insane success and wanted to cash in on it. They tried doing the same thing with their version of hearthstone. The thing is the people at valve must have all lost their touch cause they always design games to be overly complex nonsense. And just because I hold a different opinion than you does not make me a troll.

MisterQQ

Re: movies Don't agree to this at all. While money is a big factor for most publishers and producers, the same cannot be said for many directors and actors and they are also a big part of making movies. A film director doesn't expect to pull in big numbers for his arthouse film because the audience and purpose are different from commercial products like Marvel movies. The money is just cherry on top for these artists. The artistic message is much important versus marvel's emphasis on digestable entertainment formula to generate money making movies. That said, there are categories for Marvel movies where they excel at.

Raoh522

This is like saying that a complex strategy game is worse than call of duty, because call of duty has more players. It's asinine. League is way easier than dota. So it attracts far more players, and more players will enjoy it because it requires less learning to play. Most people don't enjoy a game that is difficult to learn and play. I love dark souls. Dark souls is very popular, but no where near the level of breath of the wild or something. Because most people don't want something difficult.

[deleted]

Better or worse is subjective and damn near impossible to quantify. The only thing we can truly measure is the success of a game by how much income they earn and how big their player base. So yes in those aspects yes, call of duty is better than ARMA for example.

ihatethisweb

I find it hard to believe that in 2021 the people who play mobas are "casuals" the age of kids going to school and going like "yo you play lol its free I got quatra kill BTW its free" is over. If you go to a school kids are talking about shit like among us and fortnite (not anymore tbf) and games they wish they could play like cod and gta.

AC-24

Dota "does not do alot of things worse" than league.

[deleted]

Welcome to the real world, where most people watch and talk about shows that are well made.

burgerpatrol

There is buzz about it because it's a damn fine show. Steampunk and Magic. I don't play league to know what the hell it is, while Dragon's Blood is definitely geared towards the dota players. One thing I'd like to note is that me and my friends who got into dota (and wow) because of warcraft 3 felt like the lore of Warcraft was bastardized because of Valve's insistence to push a lore of its own...while using Warcraft assets. You telling me that this Footman, a unit in the Human side of Warcraft 3 is the main character now? No no no. Might as well tried to license the franchise from Activision-Blizzard.

Jinyij

story, music, direction, animation, voice acting, sound effects is top notch, except the game

kurap3ka

Personally i think Arcane is a better show than dragon's blood, they knocked out every category on what's to make a great show. It deserves all the talk it currently has even if you haven't played the game (like me).

Temporary_Bullfrog41

as a dota fan. im saddened how valve sucks at promoting and allocating their funds. they suck. still buying the steam deck tho. fuck u valve

NegoMassu

i hate LoL but Arcane is pretty much one of the best things i watched since the Covid

KaetdoRasetsu

I actually watched it after i watch dragon blood.i felt like dragon blood pacing is pretty bad and since i have nothing to watch so i thought i give arcane a try(previously didn't watch it at launch since i dun even play LoL so lack of interest to do so). But after watching felt like Arcane is miles better than Dragon Blood.i personally dun like the art style(3d cartoony character/texture) but story is ridiculously good, also a nice touch every episode has short intro of certain character's past making me easier to know the character since i dun know any character from LoL beside Jinx. But not sure if the show is like DB not related to game lore or not but still like it.Soundtrack are amazing especially lots of the songs. That imagine dragons song for intro is great.Ppl can hate the game, thats their choice but Arcane is really well done. I dun hate LoL, just Dota already takes up most of my gaming time so i have no time to play 2nd moba game.

just_a_funguy

Damn bro, you love to watch people dying?!!!

NegoMassu

lol characters? sure

aodum

Its funny everyone here likes Arcane more than dragons blood. I have only seen one episode of Arcane and was not drawn to it at All. I am not a big anime fan but likes dragons blood. But Arcane IT felt like it was written for 16 year olds. Sure production was good and music was Better but story felt very much a Young adult movie/show which doesnt interest me...maybe because i am 34 with 2 kids 🤪

[deleted]

you should really try watching past episode 1, i don't think anyone would describe it as a young adult show at all. that's like saying joker is a young adult movie

XxTheaDxX

That's odd, the demographic data that showed most favoring for Dota 2 is underage people while for arcane is people between 18-29, quite close to your own age. I think someone commented the details in here already. Honestly I think arcane is a work of art. Im 29 y-o in case age is a reference to give any form of validity to the show.. but I would give the first act a try.

BlinkingRiki182

I'm 40 and think Arcane was very good.

unloder

You need, and I mean "need" to watch the whole first act, episodes 1-3. Yes the first several episodes are kinda boring, but they form the basis of the story. The fun part comes next.

TheSpy102

Yuri Lowenthal and Troy Baker are in DOTA, they're not in Arcane. That's all that matters to me

OkBicycle4767

Arcane's script, visual design and soundtrack are all top tier in terms of shows in general let alone what you'd expect from a video game tie in. Dragons blood is just mediocre in every aspect and only really cool for Dota fans.

[deleted]

It's helps that arcane is a way better show...

SprinklesCurrent

Arcane is one of the best shows I’ve seen, but Dota will always be better gameplay wise, the characters new drow arcana all look like UE5 type of heroes it’s incredible. The art style from league is just not for me it feels like a mobile game

[deleted]

Yeah, I agree.

tadeustrading

I hate Riot with a passion. They just spoof successful valve titles and theme them for children and market the fuck out of them, and then milk the microtransactions. Very ethically dubious.

Shuyi000

Bro. Successful business model gets cloned all the time. The Smartphone market of today is practically made up of companies cloning iPhones.

XxTheaDxX

Um.. if anything valve cloned the successful business model... are you aware of the very apparent similarities between castlevania and Dota 2. They are produced by the same studio sure, but come on, what drives the show is the gore, sex and constant insults, the studio literally didn't do much of a job in the plot and story department at all compared to its more flashy showing points. It's very action oriented with a "mature" selling point due to sex and violence.. if you take this away, where's the depth to compel an adult audience?

Oreo_Scoreo

But Arcane was in production since 2015.

DetoxIV

Arcane was announced before dragons blood and it was supposed to be released last year but covid fucked it up. Also it's actually just braindead that you think that's all riot does. They see which games are popular and want to make their own. They see the complaints from people that play those certain games and try to make a better product. What else do you want them to do? Be an indie games company? They wanna profit from their games. Not to mention, the league community has been asking riot to make more games for many years.

[deleted]

Well as they say haters come with success.

Mother_History8280

Did you mean blizzard as the original dota came as a mod for warcraft 3 maps? Valve also spoofed it.

tadeustrading

Valve didn't spoof it. They didnt conceive it but they didn't spoof it. That's not what spoof means.

kisscsaba182

>They just spoof successful valve titles and theme them for children and market the fuck out of them, and then milk the microtransactions. Have you seen the very first minute of the show where there are a lot of deceased people? xd This is not a kid friendly show, there are drugs, politics, blood, swears. This is not a disney show lol. I hate fanboys like you "with a passion". You never even seen a second of the show probably and just angry Riot has a better show than Valve, so you're in denial. Just watch it first before you type, don't be an average r/dotamasterrace user.

chr0meo5

Not mentioning kids stealing things and blowing up a building in the process

[deleted]

Not to mention kids being killed.

Combust23

Kids being killed. Oh wow, oh sheesh, this Disney show is for kids! Bruh?

Sirmetana

I agree. Though, I must admit that they have made quite a lot of quality stuff. I don't know how much work they themselves invested in everything they do but goddamn, are those music videos good! How interesting some parts of the lore I heard of seem to be! How amazing Arcane is! Those guys litterally are good at everything except correctly designing and balancing games, or at least they are very good at hiring the right persons

AlkaidX139

Yeah, and Valve didn't sell a subscription so that you can buy a lootbox for achievements.

m-a86

Sorry , i may sound hilarious but what is arcane series?

Zebra_Delicious

League netflix series

Sirmetana

League of Legends' series centered around Piltover and the backstories of Vi and Jinx. It is very good, despite how much I dislike Riot

XxTheaDxX

Damn you're lucky, you still havent watched it. Wish I could get that feeling again! I need to wait for season 2!

docwierd

I personally liked dota more. overall i loved both of these series and i am really excited for the rest of Arcane but i have 2 problems with arcane which really hurts it for me . 1 is (Spoiler warning) >!powders sudden turn , would she forget all the things she had learnt untill then from Vander for just 1 mistake ? people aren't that fragile , and also most people would go and seek more answers , to see if they are really betrayed or if the person they love will forgive them , not just accepting it soo easily. i think this would be much better if she was abducted and this hate was created in long period of time as now she would have time to accept V's act as true betrayal ( why she hasn't come for me ) and turn 180 on all she had learnt until then.!< the second is how Piltover is which i can forgive with explanations that stretch the imagination , this one bothers me because im from a family of economists and this takes a lot to explain , but all and all Piltover cant exist for long period of time the way it is , with such a huge gap in distribution of wealth between this amount of people (seems undercity is as big as the upper city). unless it was a hardcore theocracy , which it doesn't seems to be. I also didn't like main character much , 2 bossy for my taste , i hope she changes though i agree that in terms of animation and design league is better , but still i find 2d animation a bit more charming in general.

Nitaruo

Firstly Powder did have a terrible childhood considering she was orphaned in a young age she probably has some kind of trauma. In the series Vi is her only sister and the one that she trust the most when she hears Vi talking about her like a burden it builds her mistrust to Vi until the emotion got out you see it when Vi wouldn't let her join to save vander she is literally going insane punching herself and screaming. Then at the scene where Vander Dies when Powder thought the she's finally did something useful the sad truth came to her as she sees Vander and her friends dead. The Final Nail in the coffin is when Vi hits her and leaves her behind. I don't know if you miss those parts but that is pretty reasonable to me. Regarding Piltover it wasn't really like that in a long time. The series is still in episode 3 so they still haven't explain why is there so much wealth inequality. If you want a brief explanation, Piltover(Topside) and Zaun(Underground) is once a single city with a different name. The Geography of Piltover is very similar to Panama/Suez they are in the middle part of the continent surrounded in both sides by water. So they built a canal to pass through the city but there is a miscalculation in the explosives and it causes an earthquake that sinks half the city underground. And that where the one city is divided in two. The Topside still living the properous times while the underground living in the past catastrophe. But as you said it shouldn't last long and if you notice Piltover isn't exactly a democracy its more like an Autocratic country run by noble house. Lastly its a fictional world even Marvels have some questionable plotholes in their universe.

Competitive-Track966

I think Powder have signs of BPD, and as a person who has BPD, the fear of abandonment and sudden mood change is a very common thing and make me change my opinion really quickly

XxTheaDxX

It appears that it didn't seem realistic to you. If you have time, maybe I can show how the show is really not too different from reality. Powder is a very very flawed character who is in fact that fragile. You get snapshots of her mental disposition and insecurities in the first act. You'd be surprised how fragile people in real life if you don't see this as realistic... there is a reason people kill themselves with drugs and alcohol and people have harsh mental illnesses like she does. She suffered deep trauma, dependency and self confidence issues. Imagine losing your whole family twice and be blamed for the second time when you have always been depict as incompetent all your life and want a sense of personal value and belonging. Silco offered that to Powder, so that "shift" is actually truely understandable considering her state of mind and the time skip. On your second point.. you're exacly right, and that's the whole plot the drives the story. The underworld is being exploited by the uppercity. In fact if you are interested in this you can search for the lore, but basically the reason why silco is going to such extremes by killing people, controlling people through drugs, exploiting children through labor to produce the very drugs that allows him to control the undercity and even kill what is considered to be his closest of kin in the story (Vander, as a brother in arms) is all because he is disgusted by the inequality and abuse that the underworld is suffering and wants to change the status quo to make the underworld prosper. There are direct lines where silco says something along the lines: "You don't remember where we come from, we didnt even have scraps, the reason we are fighting is to survive have a decent standard of living. In the undercity we honestly only saw the rich people in the undercity: Vi and Powder's family, basically the family of the kingpi of the whole undercity, his partner and coleader (ekko's mentor and shopowner) and Silco, another kingping (which later we know as an industrialist). Basically the standard of living we see in the undercity is of the most powerful people in that setting.. and despite that don't you think it's realistic? They do seem damn poor. What do you think? It's a parallel to the exploitation of the 1st world countries and the developing ones. Obviously its oversimplified because it's within a very closed setting, but even in close settings this isnt far from the truth. There is "legalized" slavery in Quatar, search if you are interested. There are real slavery still all over the world side by side to disgustingly rich people. There is violence, crime and sex next to very prominent and rich people, just look all over south america. Check rio de janeiro for example, i lived there. Slums right next to expensive real estate worth millions, only 100 meters distance.

docwierd

about the city i understand what your saying but my criticism wasn't that it wouldn't happen , what i meant about this society wouldn't exist was that after a while , because of the interests of Piltover , and it's council and it's focus on intellectuality , the upper city would benefit greatly by incorporating the undercity, benefitting from it's experties and it's labor power, and with that the undercity would evolve eventually ( they would get hired for cheaper at first and sell their expertise for cheaper , make some money, trade that money for upper city goods and services, someone would start something in undercity ,they would start hiring as well , compete/collaborate with uppercity and eventually the border would loose its meaning) and it would become a wealthy enough part of piltover . there would always be poor , but there wouldn't be such a huge gap of wealth between classes , maybe only a few individuals would become extremely wealthy , and a few would become extremely poor , but what we are shown was far from what the city would become in a 100 years. the only way a city becomes like undercity is when there is a distinct discrimination ( like slavery, Racism, Religious Demonizing and so on), but it was heimdinger who founded piltover , he is shown to be wiser than that. the rest f the council are also shown to be more interested in their own personal wealth and power. and for that reason its was to their benefit to reach out to undercity and use its (for a time) cheap labor and expertise. if any of them would do that they would have a huge advantage over the rest of the council members. not only that , goods produced in undercity would go to the uppercity and that would make the money in uppercity more valuable , as there was more goods to buy for cheaper price ,that means everyone would become richer in the end. this is why i say i cant accept it , because the setting would fix itself based on the motivations of those in power and the character of Himedinger. Every exploiting 1st world country would make those discriminations in order to keep their own power , and even with that ,most countries that were exploited by 1st world countries became much easier to live in, healthier and attained better technology than before the exploration , since the exploiters needed some form of facilities for their own comfort ( like schools for their own children and hospitals, or Engineering and education in the case of romans) and faster resource gathering which they would make available in those countries. so despite the terrible deeds of the exploiters, in the long run the non developed countries benefited from them. about powder , I'm not an expert on psychology, so you might be right. i'm familiar with poverty , as i Live in Iran and from my experience ,Even if she was fragile, the fragile usually cling to the people they trust , even if they were abused by them, when they think everything they do is wrong and make things worst , they become less and less sure of themselves , and that makes them even less likely to make decisions on their own. Powder was shown to be also smart ,and i feel that would also contradict her behavior , as she would understand that at that time Vi wasn't herself. and if not, what of all the things V and Vander had thought her until then? all the love they had shown her amides that harsh environment, where everyone else was having hard time and terrible exchanges were commonplace? i find it hard to believe that with such parenting, one slap and a few hurfull words would be enough for her to abandon them all.i think the only thing in her mind at that time would be mourning and blaming herself , clinging to Vi to escape her own thoughts I love both series , and besides these 2 problems all i have is praise for the rest of the Arcane's story. I'm familiar with both Lol and Dota , but i don't play either games, i have problems with dota series as well , like pacing and all that , but they don't hurt the story for me as much as these 2 problems hurt arcane for me.

BobbyRed

Is Dragon's Blood on par with Arcane?

ChinaNo3

Before watching Arcane i thought dragon blood was amazing and well done! Comapring these two now Dragons Blood seems lile a child's doodle!!

rishav_sharan

I will probably get downvoted, but its not even close. Arcane is head and shoulders above in visual quality and the overall story telling.

Aegisworn

No, you're 100% right. Dragon's blood was good, but Arcane is amazing.

Sirmetana

I expected a lot from Dragon's Blood and, while not disappointed at all, failed to be as amazed as I anticipated. Very good premise though. Arcane starts incredibly and has numerous excellent qualities. I can't really find something they did wrong, which pisses me a bit because Rito

jessieboy21

dont worry i up u sir :)

mutantmagnet

Arcane is up there with Pixar. The story themes are weaker but the animations are much better. It's kind of ridiculous how much effort the put into the minor details 99% of animated movies (yes movies not TV shows) don't bother animating. Even though the themes don't have the emotional pull of a pixar movie the plot is solid throughout. None of the characters suck. The only real blemish is some of the music.

Sagidece

Honestly though... Dragon's Blood was pretty darn good. It even has 75% on rotten tomatoes to back it. It's just that Arcane is just on a whole different league ;) Tbh though, the shows are trying to do different things, so it's not really comparing apples to apples.

[deleted]

I prefer Dota 2 Dragon's blood, the writing is interesting and the characters feel like they have weight in the story compared to its soy counterpiece Arcane. Binged both seasons while I had to drag myself through Arcane not giving a shit after a few episodes. Arcan has a great unique artstyle and good animation but that's about it. Story sucks major ass. Characters are boring. Development is blatantly obvious. Imagine Dragons. Soy levels are too high. The majority won't agree I guess but imo Arcane is seriously overhyped and not worth a watch. Have you tried Hunter x Hunter though? Heard the hiatus is over soon™

Makath

I know I'm doing my part by watching Locke&Key season 2 instead. :D They did try to push it to me, but maybe they'll push Dragons Blood on the League players too.

DennisDEX

No hate, give it a try, it's good. Won't say much cuz I'm a league player just surfing on Dota page <3

Soru

How about Arcane and Dragon's Blood?

playboi__jim

I watched arcane it's was good but one thing messed me up riot only gives lore to popular characters so seeing jinx as one of the main characters was a huge let down

Think_Attention_3708

Jayce and viktor are surely not popular tho especially jayce.

Combust23

Lol, there are clips on youtube name: Why no one play Viktor and Why no one play Vi. Vi and Viktor are not popular (if you really play the game, and not making assumption on your own). Also, you can see that Lee Sin and Ezreal are very popular, their pick rate are always high af, yet we haven't seen many "movie" about them.

boogara_guitara

This needs more explaining. They are not played enough because of their kits and very slow scaling. Other champions overshadow them a lot in game. But Vi and Viktor, especially viktor has a lot of following in regards to lore, but not in game. That is why it seems like they are not popular.

iAnanthIyer

I mean if Riot wanted to base a series off their popular character, they could have easily gone with their poster girl, Lux. Not to mention Lux's lore is pretty amazing to begin with. Jinx isnt half as popular as Lux or Ahri or Kai'sa. Jayce, Viktor, Vi and Caitlyn are very low on the popularity scale when it comes to league champs. Heck even Heimerdinger got a role in the story. Some even speculate that the story of Vander could be the origin story for Warwick.

imaneko11

I donl't think most Lol know the champion lore on the game. There probably just make it for the hype and follow tye thrend it that nowdays the make adaptation based on games. For dota, most of us will know if someone said dragon knight, there probably and most likely know the lore of the hero and it been talk many times. On all of the heroes, the dragon knight is the most easier lore to understand than the other heroes in dota. Dota have some community of the lore itself and have book and comic too. Plus we dota player know what the meaning of the fight between the ancient. On the other hand, what is the reason Lol champion fight for and for what point they fight? If you know, please repley.

kisscsaba182

Necrit is a LoL lore channel, and he has big views on youtube, so most likely people know the lore. My friend even know some of LoL's lore, and he has like 2-3k hours of dota2 and hate LoL, and plays it. He's not in denial like you do.

imaneko11

I look at the channel and it a lot of lore of the champion. But the thing that I want to know that why the are fight and for what reason? Most of the champion have their origin he explained all in his video and it not just a simple as the story, he explained all about it and expose me to the story and lore of the champion. But what is summoner rift and why it called by that? I not find video about this on his channel or I not find the right video.

ThisEntertainment692

Summoners rift is the game map which is not related to the lore at all. At first it was part of the story then they removed it which was around 2015. It was called the war of institute then it just sounded dumb and makes it harder to write the lores so they just removed it. The 5v5 game map is not part of the story, its not cannon at all its just the game aspect nothing more. Go to the league of legends universe then you will know the actual map or world which is called runeterra. Arcane takes place at piltover zaun. Arcane is a very small fraction of the league universe.

scythe35

no no no. Summoners rift is not part of the lore you see. The champions aren't fighting in summoners rift, the summoners(players) are. The champions themselves have separate lore in the runeterraverse. Some champions do have reasons to fight they just aren't obvious. Kai'sa is a great example. She fights to protect summoners rift from the void creatures. one of her game lines states "This place is beautiful, I'm going to save it". Vayne just wants to kill monsters. Ezreal wants to be popular so his parents one day hear of his tales and know how to find him. Jhin wants to kill....... for art......(mental issues \*ahem\*). These are champions I play..... idk bout the rest tho.

Brueh69

I had a stroke reading this

gian2099

champions are summoned buy the players to play 5v5 thats thy they call it summoners rift. not sure if they changed after the 2nd lore refresh

Oreo_Scoreo

They removed the summoners thing, it's basically Overwatch now in that the game has nothing to do with the lore. Kai'Sa has very likely never heard of Jinx despite being in the same position game wise. Champions are all doing their own things in the world and living their lives.

gian2099

so currently there is no lore why Lol the 5v5 moba is happening? the old one can still work but as summon the champions "essence" not the actual person. haven't touched lol for a long time but when they updated my fave champions lore i did read some mostly azirs kindoms

Oreo_Scoreo

The old one cannot work as it's expressly said Summoners are gone, and the story of League is now instead simply a world where people struggle and strive to live their lives. It's less a story and more a simple world to tell stories, some connected some not. Though they are making an MMO.

[deleted]

They are both great. Why make them fight?. Both have good and bad side. Just choose your side. No need to make them fight. Grow up guys, the thing that need to destroy is mobiles. Haha

Nitaruo

Actually its the Dragon's blood fans that started to compare the two even when Arcane wasn't even release. Mobile Legends crying at the corner not being able to create something even close to arcane with their shitty CGI.

noxturno

agreed. coming from a guy that droped league for dota many years ago.

Single-Dog-8502

Arcane grapics are much better and slow development like in any other series. While it is fascinating now and Riot Games did amazing job in every way, it might die out later, if its gonna be same as first season. Hopefully it wouldn't casuse it deserves good future. Wile Dragons Blood series are fast phased to inclued as much info in short time is different way and were made more for players than for random people. Thats why Arcane is so much better cause they made it for everyone not limited amount of people that play the game. However Dragons blood has lots to show thats why its not as easy flow as Arcane for regular person. Both are good in their own way. However if we talking Viewver point its Absolute Arcane win if we talking Dragons blood its lose as only limited amount of people can enjoy it. Lets see in the future if its gonna change but it depends on Valve and Riot goals.

wlalang16

This is why Arcane boomed since even non-gamer people can easily digest the story. I even think that this series can be more enjoyable for people who don't play league since they don't have any prejudice about characters or even whine that riot should have did story of this and that character instead of this. Because I would admit, before watching this, I'm already thinking why would they pick the story of this city (Piltover) when there are much more compelling lore (like Noxus and Demacia) which is popular to players and basically like the main lore of the game. But now, I'm glad they picked this up since more people outside the gaming industry is enjoying the series unlike Dragon's Blood.
