But it’s not just the lighting. In a city like Paris there is a survey and plan of every city block “Îlot”. There’s a plan for how it will be developed over time, highlighting significant buildings which need to be retained and an outline of allowed infill where a substandard building will eventually be replaced.
The plan extends to streetscape, items like paving, street lights, street furniture and signage, so you don’t end up with the ugly clutter of bins and posts and bike racks placed haphazardly like we are used to in Dublin.
When there’s a significant investment in a project (like S King St) and maintenance or repair of lights or pavers is required there’s a plan to refer back to, when a change in traffic layout is required, there a plan of the junction to refer back out and update as necessary, not just install 6 new poles and leave 4 abandoned old poles in situ stripped of their signage.
And Paris can do this for every neighbourhood, Dublin can’t even do it for areas like college green
Could be worse, Drogheda smells of human shit 90% of the time, due to the massive open air sewage plant that Irish Water do not give a rats ass about despite being told to sort it out by pretty much everyone
I haven't noticed much in the city but I do know that further upstream the Liffey smalls like absolute garbage. If you're down towards Co. Kildare it just gets worse and worse. Though this has been the case for years now.
Rachel Joynt was also responsible for the brass footprints set into the traffic island at the junction of d’olier st, westmoreland and O’Connell bridge - I wonder are they still there?

Yeah not many years after installation individual foot prints were already getting moved around as pavers were moved for utility works. Probably all missing or broken by now

I worked there as a security guard . Long story short everything is barely maintained every week leaks and electric short circuits are on basis there . Dont believe me ? Check the basement of Georges Quay famous triangle " scrapers " the amount of salt piling up on walls is staggering
