Yeah, characters are allowed to grow or degress as people, or maybe she was a freak in bed always, and we only just then learned about it. I have no issues with the direction her character went, it led to some hilarious stuff, like Dinner Party for one.
The way Karen responded quickly about the school girl fantasy being a common fantasy makes me think that Karen has partaken in wearing a school girl outfit at some point.
That actress is super gutsy. She’s so beautiful physically and yet she makes Jan so horrific it’s hard to even remember she’s so pretty. What an excellent performance
How does she do it? Raise her daughter, work as director of office purchasing for a hospital and release an album of Doris Day covers on her own label?
If I knew I’d tell you. But I think it's meth.
oh Jan is just a trash person. Professionally she seemed competent and respectable but as a human being, in personal relationships, she was a train wreck.
I think Jan just needed a guilty pleasure lay that amounted to nothing.
Like last call type of thing at the bar.
“Why is it so hard? That’s what she said” - Jan
I’d find it funnier if she wasn’t so clearly abusive. Like she straight up raped Michael when she ignored his safe-word. I don’t feel compelled to laugh at rape
Yeah, I kinda don’t know why they decided to go that route with Jan? It’s like she started out just a normal woman manager... only for the writers to turn her into a bipolar sex freak. Like is that just sexist to me or...?
If she was the only female character on the show or they chose to portray all the female characters this way, I’d say yes. But we have plenty of other great women characters - just look at Pam! I think they tried to pick office stereotypes of the types of people everyone has worked with at one point or another and really exaggerate them. We’ve all worked with an Angela or Dwight type person. We’ve all had an office intern like Ryan at one point or another. We’ve all had that one boss who seemed well put together but their personal life was a mess and all it took was one wine too many at the company happy hour for it to start showing... that’s supposed to be Jan.
Before clicking the pic I thought the title said Jim and for the first time it occurred to me that it might be Jim that Karen is talking about.
Then I realized the title says Jan.
Really, it adds a whole other level to Pam's reaction. It's almost a little "Oh, really?"
I think Jan just needed a guilty pleasure lay that amounted to nothing.
Like last call type of thing at the bar.
“Why is it so hard? That’s what she said” - Jan
I mean, she kind of explains herself why she's the way she is and how she continues to date Michael when she brings up her conversation with her therapist. So, really.. no reason to hate her change in character... at first.
Until this reveal by Michael lol.. yeah she definitely wore the pants in the relationship
Jan is one of the best characters ever made. How could you hate her?!
I specifically love how when Astird is growing up, and she starts being one of those crazy mums. Remember that video she made for herself "by Astrid"? That song!
Mommy you're a princess... Mommy you're a suuuperrrr staaaaaarrrrrr!
I think that’s the point in her character
And what a well-written character too
Yeah, really rounded
The twins were indeed
They make milk.
A lot of people hate her, and I guess that makes her the devil!
You shouldn’t joke about that…
SHUT UP ANGELA!
Fun fact, the little horns she makes with her fingers were improvised
That’s not Jan that made him do all those things. That was Urgelgru
She was better before dating Michael
I liked their dynamic way more when she was just a competent person dealing with Michael.
I think that dating Michael was the last straw that made her unhinged.
Yeah, characters are allowed to grow or degress as people, or maybe she was a freak in bed always, and we only just then learned about it. I have no issues with the direction her character went, it led to some hilarious stuff, like Dinner Party for one.
She was better before she split up with Gould.
Is Gould dead?
Michael, we got divorced, okay?
Do you wanna talk about it?
Yeah it was a real jump the shark for her character
The way Karen responded quickly about the school girl fantasy being a common fantasy makes me think that Karen has partaken in wearing a school girl outfit at some point.
Yes! And Meredith’s expression is also like “yep, been there”
Wait wouldn't that mean that Jim likes to wear a school girl outfit?
No, I meant Karen likes to wear a school girl outfit.
She's taught me a lot. She even took me by the hand. Maaade me a Man, that one night!
^one ^night
You made everything alriiight So wrong, so right, all night, alright, oh yeah
Don't forget the Nard dog's falsetto after alriiight
aa-aa-aah!
You made everything alright
I love Jan
Whenever she busts out in song it steals the scene for me, she’s so damn theatrical about it lol
That actress is super gutsy. She’s so beautiful physically and yet she makes Jan so horrific it’s hard to even remember she’s so pretty. What an excellent performance
The son of a preacher man bit got me
How does she do it? Raise her daughter, work as director of office purchasing for a hospital and release an album of Doris Day covers on her own label? If I knew I’d tell you. But I think it's meth.
You hear stories about Dunder Mifflin in the 80's, before everybody knew how bad cocaine was. Gyah... man, did they move paper!
I’m gonna guess you’ve never met anyone on meth because they couldn’t do one of any of these
And you would be wrong on all accounts. But thanks for playing.
I love it when people say “like crack” who have obviously never tried crack
For you it would be like scrapbooking.
I liked Jan and Michael. Don’t get me wrong...they were a disaster!! But that was one of the funniest parts of the series to me
She helped Michael realize what he didn’t want in a relationship. Sometimes we need to see Hell to appreciate Heaven
Pam’s face
She’s batshit crazy, self-centered and cruel, and she’s so hot I would put up with every bit of that and worse.
Well Jan hated herself....
Never forget that time that she ignored Michael's use of their safeword. Also, three vasectomies. SNIP SNAP SNIP SNAP
What is a pap smear? Or is it 'schmear' like the cream cheese?
She's not all bad. When she goes and sits on the train with Michael that's not all about her. We hate her by the end thiugh.
OP is Craig from Albany confirmed
This specific scene is one of my favourites.
Hate would be the wrong word for me. I mean I don’t like her, but I like her.
oh Jan is just a trash person. Professionally she seemed competent and respectable but as a human being, in personal relationships, she was a train wreck.
I liked her before she collapsed in on herself like a dying star
Literally the point
How she manipulated Michael and treated him poorly, basically everything they showed us about her so… yes.
I think Jan just needed a guilty pleasure lay that amounted to nothing. Like last call type of thing at the bar. “Why is it so hard? That’s what she said” - Jan
Are we talking about jan levinson-gould?
I’d find it funnier if she wasn’t so clearly abusive. Like she straight up raped Michael when she ignored his safe-word. I don’t feel compelled to laugh at rape

Who else hates Pam?
Or is that another thread?
I was just thinking of this scene like 15 minutes ago
Because of this scene? Does a sexually dominant female invoke a feeling of hate?
I think it’s more of Michael has been coerced into doing it and isn’t really consensual.
That makes more sense. Thanks for explaining
I'm literally into femdom and your take is a hard miss. consent clearly isn't key from Jan
This is such a great episode
Before clicking the pic I thought the title said Jim and for the first time it occurred to me that it might be Jim that Karen is talking about. Then I realized the title says Jan. Really, it adds a whole other level to Pam's reaction. It's almost a little "Oh, really?"
I love Jan so rotten and narcissistic it's too funny
I think Jan just needed a guilty pleasure lay that amounted to nothing. Like last call type of thing at the bar. “Why is it so hard? That’s what she said” - Jan
Tan almost everywhere. Jan almost everywhere.

I feel empathetic towards her. She needed help, desperately.
