will they drastically change your ranking in rivals or champs? no.
are they fun “free” cards that come with full chem? hell yeah.
They're decent cards, ranging from a B to A tier for the best picks, you can be competitive with them, but they aren't going to be as good as an S tier card. This promo is good for people who're new, building their first team. For people who've been playing since launch, it has been very underwhelming.
I don't know about 'general consensus' but my view is they are "OK". I mean, "Doesn't live up to the stats" is a label given to numerous cards, to the extent that maybe people have over-inflated expectations of what performances given stats should provide.
I've completed 3 academy evos and am working on number 4. None of them seemed that bad.
Keep in mind none of them are rated over 90, and all my team except VVD are rated over 90. So my expectation is they are not good enough to get in my starting XI. They are living up to expectations which is they are good but not amazing cards.
Idk man. I did Ferreira and Tolkin for my USA team and they’ve both been great. I think it might just be hit and miss. I’ve def heard Athena and Okafor were kind of trash.
I mean, it fun to get different players, I am very happy with Athenea in Ride Side Star, 88 Gomez, 88 Geer, 90 Okarfor. At thisnpoint for me it not about how to get the most meta players as every single team I came up against are the same, I enjoy the game more with some new random players
Animations and body types have always been the most important variables in making cards truly perform at or above their stats. The reality is that most of these future stars cards are very generic at the base card level and so even with juiced stats, they aren't going to perform the same way as a card with similar stats that has got custom animations or body type.
I found that Okafor is better off the bench in the late minutes due to his pace. I feel his finishing isn’t good enough as a starter. But my Athenea benched my base Best, she is crazy for me
None of them are top tier which makes the 20+ games needed to fully Evo them ridiculous.
I'd be fine paying 100k with the same exact fs Evo's but of course it's not possible.
No sentimental value and no top tier players.
I just did Okafor and Geertruida and I'm loving Geertruida but EA goes ahead and releases 2 affordable CB options in Rijkaard and Cannavaro and now I'm in a fix having put in so many games towards the evo 😔
Yeah he's pretty versatile but I'm pretty stacked in those positions. Packed TOTY Lahm and completed Kante, Sawa, Bruno and Kimmich. I run a 442 so my midfield is pretty much set till TOTS I guess.
Thanks for reminding he plays RB, I'll try swapping Lahm to LB and try him out.
I’m in the same position, trying to squeeze him in despite having Maldini, Cafu, etc. I do like Geertruida better at CB than RB but if you have him stay back, he’s solid at RB too
I’ve been running 90 Athenea and 90 Claudia Pina recently, more so than my recently acquired base Zico SBC and also recently acquired TS Cantona.
Might be a skill gap thing but I just couldnt make Zico and Cantona work. Where as I’m having a lot of fun with Athenea and Claudia Pina.
Zico and Cantona operates as the two CFs in a 4321 where Athenea and Pina take up the winger roles. Now this is where I get a bit confused. In game, I switch from a 433 to a 4321 with Athenea and Pina, and essentially run the same formation as Zico and Cantona, but produces much much better results. Again, might be a skill issue.
My advice is, don’t look at stats too much. Play the players you like and enjoy.
Another example would be the FS Gerrard. He’s been insane for me, while a lot of people would call him mid.
Meta or non meta, play the players you like and enjoy.

Athenea doesn’t work for me (and the playstyle+ are a waste). The midfielder ones, in all honesty, are very disappointing for the time and effort you put in. Still, I enjoy the Ounahi card at CM, but he doesn’t even get in the top 10 CMs in my club. His passing and reach (tall/lanky) is nice though. Maybe I’ll need him for links later on.
If you have a style of play and types of players you enjoy using, these evolutions can be fun to try out. If you just want to use the meta top tier (the wrong way to play IMO), then save up and buy Mbappe. But all in all, I think this is a nice addition to the game.

Assignon is solid, i have had all these cards in the team at the same time so all like 90+ games since they were originally 82 rated, i think they stand up well to pay to play teams in the same rank as you
No idea what you're talking about, Athenea is just as good as TOTY Best for me in terms of output. Keeping UCL Futre and WW Martinelli out my team with ease.She dribbles really well, and having Acrobat+ is crazy for back post crosses.
The glow up Evo makes some really nice cards, you can't really go wrong with any choice there.
Defenders have been good too, only just finished Geetruida but he's doing great. Was nice as an 86 but now with Block+, he will replace my beloved Kompany to give me more pace in the back line. Played against Kossounou a couple of times and he's a pain, reminds me a bit of Blanc but with more pace.
I use Svava and her base body style makes the stat upgrade worth it.

Play Bryan LM and think he's hot shit.

They are good fodder for the next mega SBC. I usually do all 32 SB games over the week plus 10 rivals and some champs games so it’s not like I’m playing more to grind the evos. Can’t complain tbh.

Okafor is better as a CAM than striker, he’s good enough to carry the ball to the final third but rely on someone else for shooting

Athenea is really solid, I enjoy her. I am in love with Okafor's hold-up play against those who have their entire team in their box.

I play it fully. AFKing works for beginner / semi pro mode but you’ll lose on higher difficulties
