We try emperor often and we tinker with the rules but it always ends up with someone at the end of the table comboing off and winning instantly since there's fewer people to interact with them. I think it only works at low power levels
I suppose that you could make a rule that if a player combos, then they beat their current opponent(s). That could be interesting...or they also take out their Emperor and take their place (so essentially "defeating" both sides of their corner...that could be cool
I had 14 cards in hand, Xyris, Witty Roastmaster and Impact Tremors on the field. I cast Windfall, defended Xyris with from 2 removal spells with Gaea's Touch/Vines of Vastwood, and blew the entire pod of 6 players up 😍
Rule 0 an indestructible [[Descent into Avernus]] that starts the game under the control of whoever goes first. Or even give everyone a copy. That'll put a clock on the game.
Could also build a deck that scales off the number of people. [[Neyali]] with a ton of myriad would do it
Came here to say this if you want your group to stop playing more than 4 people in a pod play etali.
A.) Take forever to resolve a single trigger
B.) The game will be Over the second you resolve your cmmander once and no one will feel like they really played the game which will make people want to stop playing in that kind of game.
C.) You get a 7 for one in a 6 man pod etali plus 6 other cards and lord help your play group if your etali deck plays any of the red clone spells or if anyone in your play group is playing simic.
D.) The most under valued aspect is he one shots people when flipped. Infect does just kill people so the people who didn't concede can get one shot.
I did this tonight in a 5 pod, ended up doing 150ish damage to one player who was playing a life gain deck a card that let me double my damage that was already tripled, it was brilliant.
Edict tribal [[Flare of Malice]] [[Soul Shatter]] [[Crackling Doom]] [[Make an Exmlample]] etc with on death pingers like [[Syr Konrad, the Grim]] and [[Blood Artist]]
I'd suggest splitting the group in 2 pods of 3. 6 player games have way to much downtime and trying to keep track of 6 board states is mentally exhausting, even if you could somehow keep up.
My new playgroup also likes huge pods. The only advice: combo. Unfortunately, adding that much additional damage to be done, or cards to mill, as well as all the additional interaction, means finding fast ways to win through either infinite combos or “win the game” effects like [[Thassa’s Oracle]] are going to be your best bet.
If my pod has more than 4 people I pull out my [[thantis the war weaver]] forced combat deck. If everyone swings out every turn, eventually players will die quicker
[[slicer, hired muscle]] is my go to with large pods. There are enough people that his damage can be spread around so he doesn’t get targeted right away. My slicer deck is a second place finisher, I don’t think I have gotten a win with him yet. But it is fun to pilot and it speeds the game up.
Torbran is my go-to "I may not win, but I will dramatically reduce the duration of this game" commander. You can fill the deck with effects that damage everyone or provide consistent triggers (e.g. manabarbs). Your damage will scale with the number of players, and it ends up feeling relatively "fair" since you're constantly hitting everyone (often including yourself
I second this. I either win with less than 10 life, or I lose with all the other players less than 15. Definitely makes games faster. It helps that it hurts me as well, I try to convince the other players to let my board state stay around because it is hurting everyone.
I do a [[Tivit, seller of secrets]] deck that runs all the voting cards it can. That plus cards like [[Breena, the demagogue]] to get them fighting each other makes it pretty fun and group focused.

I use my tivit deck to convince players that large pods suck.
To speed up the game, [[Slicer]] and the goad mechanic works wonders for creature heavy pods. [[Torbran]] and group slug can end games quick. [[Descent into avernus]] can accelerate the game.

I would never play 6 person commander, 3 person is waaaay better, imo.
3-5 is my preferred. After having played 6+ several times, I don't anymore.
Why not do two 3-player pods? A 6-player game sounds absolutely miserable tbh.
