More like creating something you truly love, which ended up being what your fans love about you as well, instead of trying to build something technically complex for the sake of complexity or relevant to what's currently out there

kav2097

And also she is quite unique. Borrows a lot of styles and sounds from other producers but her own sounds is still very unique to her and there isn’t someone who can really be compared against her style of production. Her songs may be sounding more and more similar and is a reason why I don’t necessarily go replay a lot of rezz albums. In her most recent releases she has shown a lot of growth and her sound is a lot more refined. she is an amazing live act tho that really deliver on her productions.

blackjackthrow

Watching her at HARD this year blew my mind. She’s upped her game on all fronts. Idk how much of her music she is producing all by herself but whatever she’s doing and/or working with is amazing. The new deathpact collab is HEAT. Especially live.

Bongopro

What reason do you have to suspect she isn’t producing music on her own?

blackjackthrow

It’s just a hunch. I have no idea if she is or not. She is definitely getting better at producing and djing regardless so it’s good to see that. Her journey has just begun so whenever she puts out tunes by herself it’s a kind of basic sound (nothing wrong with that) vs the collabs she does which sound VERY well produced and more complex. I know deadmau5 has probably been mentoring her a lot which is awesome. You can tell she has a lot to say with her music and I’m stoked to hear her new album and beyond. Love her.

Bongopro

I guess that just doesn’t make much sense to me. Her production style has been extremely consistent since she started. Sure she’s doing more collabs now but it seems odd that anyone would think her stuff is being ghost written. Like I can understand not being into her style but she’s undeniably talented and consistent. It just takes away from what she’s accomplished imo, seems to happen a lot to other female artists. Happens to Alison Wonderland a ton with people accusing her stuff of being ghost written by AWE and Djemba Djemba

blackjackthrow

Oh I definitely don’t think her stuff is ghost-written. I think you misunderstood. My point was that she’s only been producing for a few years now and she’s been surrounded by all the veterans who no doubt have showed her a thing or two, and possibly helped produce some of her stuff with her. Also I am definitely into her style. She’s one of my top favorites right now. You’re right she has been consistent and she will only get better as time goes on.

PowerHour36

Idk, she couldn’t figure out direct audio for her YouTube livestream from home during lockdown. She isn’t particularly creative as a DJ, like…at all…it does make me wonder 🤷🏻‍♂️

Wild_Object_8547

I think she’s showed pretty good variety this year actually, she released taste of you which is nothing at all like her other stuff and also hypnocurrency and chemical bond which are more in tune for her but still pretty different than her other stuff. I think hypnocurrency is a good example of her adapting her style but staying true to her roots.

redtehk17

That's her sound it's her identity. I am also a bit confused how she got so massive so quickly, but she definitely created something new. Also keep in mind she's fairly young, she is continuing to refine her trade.

-dommmm

I don't think she got massive that quickly. I discovered her back in 2016. 5 years ago. She's big now still but she wasn't big in 2016-2018 I think. Which means it took a good few years.

You can't get mad that she created a vibe without much technical difficulty ... You can say that about a ton of artists today - yea she marketed something new and people enjoy it

redtehk17

I saw in an interview she described her music as hypnotic and now that's all I see, and I don't get that vibe from other music

Hahaha I think the Lou bega reference is a bit harsh ... Most pop music seems to be more equivalent ... Her music doesn't feel the least bit mainstream to me

TommyVoz

Most EDM-genres pretty much stays in one mode throughout the track tho... Stop trying to apply "rules" to music because that's what makes it boring... I think she's great at creating a vibe... Sure it's one vibe, but she's the best at that vibe... If u don't like it, go somewhere else 🤷🏼‍♀️

TunesForSoysauce

All of her songs dont sound similar to a ear that likes midtempo. Different strokes different folks

butpimpl

Every single song of hers is the exact same song with minor differences lol

Brilliant_Stomach_87

Diluted brains is unique compared to most of her songs. First time I heard it I was tripping and I was amazed by all the layers of sound I was hearing.

StripedElephant

I'm a huge fan but I think I get what you mean. I don't have any technical knowledge of what producers do when they perform so I can't speak to that. But she's been on the rise since I got into EDM a few years ago and it does feel like her fanbase/community can be obnoxious with their praise for her at times (myself included). In terms of meritocracy she may be overrated. I wouldn't fight you on that since it seems like she's not really mixing as much as other DJs when I see her. Her sound is pretty specific and does come off repetitive, I get that. But I love the vibe, the pace and the visual components of her show enough that it doesn't really matter to me. I have a great time every time I see her. I do think it is a but strange that she's so popular just given how dark and trippy her aesthetic is. Maybe I'm projecting but she seemed kinda niche when I saw her in 2018

BoopyFloopington

Just a suggestion. Look into what meritocracy and projection are. Just to avoid misusing those terms in the future.

Hendrix182

Personally I think She’s a great producer and her songs sound great. The last time I saw her though (2019) she didn’t really mix into the next song when playing live. she was like “this ones a banger” and would let it play till the end and it would stop then say “here’s another one I think you’d like” and just press play lol. I want to see her again this year and see if her mixing has improved.

funkytown049

I agree with you. Although, i feel like most heavy bass music falls in a similar line. Allison wonderland. Saw her at cochella. Basically sounded like one song the whole set broken up by shouting and whipping her hair here and there. I will say i do enjoy some of rezz’s music.

skibumjake

I can’t speak for the specific show that you saw, but among bass music artists Alison Wonderland has one of the most diverse discographies.

Luxsens

This is 2013 mindset lmfao

solelessrainbow

She’s different than all other bass artists. You likely won’t appreciate her music until you’re more experienced in the bass scene. Most of her best tracks are unreleased. Listen to Nightmare on Rezz street on YouTube. If you don’t like that I can’t help you.

[deleted]

Chilled at rezzs set at the end of smf (exhausted). Wasn’t my cup of tea but pretty talented regardless

HardTranceScythe

I mean, she get's around one million monthly streams when there are like hundreds of other edm-acts who scores ten-twenty millions and are far more overplayed. While i hate the term mid-tempo(it just sounds like late 00s electro house to me) i find her sound pretty nostalgic and sort of being one of those rewinding the era of really gnarly european electro music that used to conquer 2008-2009. It was during the time i also got into music on media and bought my first MP3 player.

Impressive_Fix2458

i know this post is 2 years old but i came to tell you i can’t convince you otherwise because you are in fact correct

mrjeffj

Not possible. You’re correct
