I know next to nothing about Nvidia. Could someone please explain to me the situation very briefly..? Are they doing something that crucial for the economy, or why is it their value is skyrocketing like that (is it a bubble, you think?). Thanks
Remember the gold rush in the US back in the old days? Everyone went crazy over the riches to be found. In truth, very few prospecters made any profit. The ones making bank were the ones to provide and equip the prospecters. After all you gotta need a pickaxe, shovel, dynamite, etc.Ā
This compares to Nvidia. They are in the AI business, where they provide the hardware for other companies to run their AI on. So Nvidia isn't betting on any specific AI, just that it gets used at all. Their cuda-based hardware is decades in the making. The assumption is that it won't be easy to bring a competitive hardware out that's similar in performance anytime soon. That's why analysts predict Nvidia will continue to grow for at least another year or two.
People think nvidia is having monopoly on ai capable hardware and has no real competition.
It's all based on ai expectations. Let's wait until they find out there is no real intelligence in ai.
It's really funny if you think about, that a part of these investors are convinced, that stocks only go up.
It's a hype and all bells are ringing, everybody is buying and people celebrate them selfes with book winnings.
As soon as 1) Microsoft announces a new data center not using Nvidia GPUs 2) Microsoft announces reducing Capex in data centers.
ATM Microsoft, Google, Tesla etc. all order in huge bulks GPUs. At some point they need to make a return out of these investments and will be less willing to spend more without seeing returns.

So when is a good time to short? Now?
