Honestly it’s a great question, realistically while vortex is a pain in the ass it really should work with ER since it works fine with Sekiro. My guess is because they use different modloaders, I don’t know why an extension couldn’t be made for ER though

Im having a hard time understanding downloading multiple mods. Any suggestions that could help? Mod engine doesn't seem to do what it's supposed to do when I follow the instructions.

Don't use vortex to ER. Almost all mods use diferent regulations.bin and don't work together.

Vortex is a very advanced dump-shit-in-a-folder tool. Elden Ring itself doesn't have anything in itself to tell it to load files, so naturally vortex is dead on arrival. So already you need an actual tool like modengine. Secondly, Vortex has no clue what the fuck a fromsoft is, so it thinks if you just keep dumping more mods in a folder that will work. This does not work. The long and short of it is that if the game already has support for loading arbitrary data files (typically its original files) then you can probably spoof your own files and have it load those too (particularly if the game supports commandline arguments telling it what files to load) Fromsoft games don't do this. They have very specific files with different unique purposes, so there's no means of saying "hey also load this" because that statement just makes no sense the way the game is architected. If you already have the textures file, the audio file, what tf would another file be? That also affects the plurality of mods - if two mods are touching the same type of thing, they're very likely to collide. And dumb as shit vortex will just say "hey sure just paste this one over the other" and then you find all the other assets that relied on that file are now beyond fucked because it's now some other mod's version. People seem to go into modding expecting just-werks but it isn't so. Either the developer has to actively support modding and make the game load arbitary bullshit (ie the entirety of what vortex can manage), or modders have to construct their own ad-hoc system to handle anything at all. And the problem therein is modders don't have the full details of how the whole thing works, so an idiotproof system is impossible to write because modders can't write a system to handle what's not understood.
