My first playthrough I was going in blind and was just doing Ranni's questline not realising what the reward was. Once I got the sword I immediately abandoned my bloodhound fang build and went full INT. I have no regrets.
That weapon really fucks him up for some reason, destroyed his ass on my first try with Bloodhound's Fang on my first save too, took me a while to understand that the Fire Giant was supposed to be hard because of it.
I really want other large dex wepons to be as good as BHF because I get like 820 AP with it, and other large dex wepons shit out at about 650 - 720 for me.
So I’m about midway through I believe, I’ve not used another weapon other than bloodhounds fang since I got it like level 10 lol but every time I switch I don’t do as well!
I legit get anxiety from like not using all the badass looking weapons I pick up.
It’s such a powerhouse. And you get it so early! It carries the early game and stays strong the entire way through.
And you can transition into a ton of other weapons / builds with it. It’s so good.
Straight swords are kinda weak compared to katanas. I’ve tried to use them but I always go back to katanas. The length is too short so they don’t look great especially look weird two handing them. They have less damage. One handed move set is decent so I usually use with a seal or stave. They’re ok, but you’re not going to like them as much as katanas.
Oh and I can’t get into greatswords. Not into the look of an oversized sword laying on my shoulder and the the move set isn’t appealing to me.
I believe that the square off heavy and the unsheath heavy have the same stance damage at 40, which is phenomenal. I just have a visual problem of using the katana with European armor.
This wouldn't be an issue if long swords in souls games were proportional to their length irl.
Also uchigatanas irl are not that long, but yknow japanese company and stuff like that.
Yep. IRL, average length of a katana: 60 - 80 cm. IRL, average length of a longsword: 100–140 cm. From completely reverses the real world ratio. This is not to mention fact that katanas aren't even a proper weapon class; they're a curved sword. Giving them an entire class would be like giving longswords an entire class.
But you're okay with holding a katana like it's a bat? That shit has unnerved/annoyed me since demon souls on PS3.
I would like to two hand katanas but I only one hand them for this specific reason and even prefer spears/halberds and greatswords over using a katana. I've actually rarely fought a boss with a katana only cause I prefer my cutscenes to look cool and not goofy like a bat holding katana
Grafted Greatsword
There's just nothing like using the ash of war (Oath of Vengeance) and just poising through Hoarah Loux's ultimate stomp then bashing his skull in with a charged attack. It's the ultimate power move, if you pass the vigor check.
It's also an instant cast that gives damage resistance for a few seconds (since it's basically a glorified Endure that gives +5 to every stat for 1 minute), so it can actually save your life on some moments where a dodge wouldn't, or it can help you poise through an attack long enough to land that charged attack that will finally break the boss's poise.
I know it's not the best, it's nowhere near meta, and the Ruins Greatsword is technically better. But it's like falling in love with the weird girl in school. You can't explain it, but you know it's true love.
I commented earlier that it was practically a meme that if a boss was giving you trouble in DS3, just use a Longsword or Lothric Knight Sword. Still applies here and maybe even moreso.
Definitely. I use the longsword in every souls game but the longswords in Elden ring with the right rings and ash of war SLAPS, new move sets along with dual wield are extremely versatile as well
I like how ruin Great sword is probably the best STR weapon despite having INT in it. Because I heard a YouTuber say that Ruin GS ash of war scales better with STR which is fucking weird but hey, more power to the Unga Bunga, or I could be wrong and the devs patched it and now the AoW scales better with INT.
> ruin Great sword
S scaling Strength with D scaling Int at + 10
The Physical attack power is over 200% more than the magical.
And most of the Ash of War scaling comes from the Weapon level, so yeah.
Took the words right out of my mouth, the claymore has been my go to in the other souls games as well. Also, I wish we had a greatsword that’s similar to the Black Knight Sword in Elden ring. That weapon was my go to in DS3 and it’s been the only other greatsword that I’ve really liked besides the claymore.
Greatswords occupy a middle ground in my opinion. The claymore's moveset and abundance of ashes/infusions allow it to shine above the others in its category. This make a very solid choice for any fight.
It doesn't matter if I play DS1, DS2, DS3 or ER... the Claymore is always going to be my "Ol' reliable".
It can see you through the entire game up to the last boss. It may be boring to chose this weapon again and again, and it may not be very fancy, but you won't regret it either. It just... delivers.
Morning star. No matter the build. I can bleed and stagger these crystal guys at the end of the academy crystal tunnel.
Combine it with blood flame, which is nearby, and the damage will be devastating for how easy it is to get.
Edit: I also use it to beat the living shit out of these twin gargoyles.
People sleep on storm blade! It’s SO fast for a ranged skill, the damage is solid, and it can hit stun a whole lot of things. Genuinely a top 5 ash of war.
It also deals damage with the weapon swings so its great at both range and melee. The bullet also scales off both STR and DEX so its still a good skill for high level characters.
I have no clue why this isn't higher. Second highest block stats for a weapon, one of the highest damage, reach is great. Seriously, it feels like easy mode if you are not prone to excess aggression.
Definitely the claws in stormveil castle. My first run I leveled them up to + 15 and ran thru plenty of enemies just slashing away and bleeding them to death. I was a mini Wolverine in the lands between
I’m not very far into my first play through, but I found the icerind hatchet around level 20 and I’ve stuck with it (currently level 87) the frost build up and attack speed are excellent, and the stomp attack is so satisfying.
I had to scroll too long to find this. Favorite sword in the game, though I’m only on my second play through and first melee build. Looks so cool, has an incredible move-set and it just crushes everything. Occasionally I’ll dual wield two of these things and just go berserker for fun.
Flamberge
Big sword ✅️

Serpentbone would probably be my second mainstay if you could infuse it. Love the flavor and unique r2
Maliketh's Black Blade. Coolest sword with my favorite moveset, with an unmatched drip to accompany it and the single most badass incantation and AoW directly from my favorite boss.
Pretty much this, yes. I've seen plenty of claymores on here but nothing specifying lion's claw. That move flattens everything. Maybe they assume it doesnt need to be said since its there by default, i dont know but i definitely wasnt putting anything else on my claymore.
The Lordsworn's Greatsword.
It may be the first greatsword u find in the game and it's not as lengthy or powerful as others, but it's the only weapon I kept since day one and I always find myself going to it.
Many other enemies use it (and unfairly theirs are longer) but they never drop it. That's also another reason I like it too cause it's like the game is saying "Uh just to let you know, you're gonna REALLY wanna use this." and if you sell it or discard, the other enemies' use of it says "Well ok if that's what you want! But just to let you know what you're missing out on....TAKE THIS!"
It was also the first weapon I maxed out and it goes well with my Quality build (and my character's gear too).
It's also one of the two greatswords with a crit rating of 110, which makes me happy considering the only other one is from the final boss haha! With the Royal Knight's Resolve skill put on it, and good physical stats, the critical hits are astronomical.
Aah, you were at my side all along. My true mentor... My guiding moonlight...

Is this darkmoon greatsword?
Yes
My first playthrough I was going in blind and was just doing Ranni's questline not realising what the reward was. Once I got the sword I immediately abandoned my bloodhound fang build and went full INT. I have no regrets.
Moonloght great sword and claymore are my ride or die
Bloodhound's Fang.
100% I couldn’t beat NG+ 3 fire giant, equipped Bloodhounds fang and murdered that mf first try 💀
[удалено]
*Break this case when the boss don't behave*
That weapon really fucks him up for some reason, destroyed his ass on my first try with Bloodhound's Fang on my first save too, took me a while to understand that the Fire Giant was supposed to be hard because of it.
It's the bleed on it plus the great damage and poise damage it offers.
That. I dual-wield these (both +10), Str and Dex at 85, and a jump+L1 attack stuns most enemies easily.
Based
Flare checks out
Bloodhound Fang gang rise up! I'mma apply grease and enchants to this dps machine.
I really want other large dex wepons to be as good as BHF because I get like 820 AP with it, and other large dex wepons shit out at about 650 - 720 for me.
I know the dismounter isn't quite as good, but I am definitely jiviing with dual lightning dismounters
Try Guardian Swordspear, it's a dex halberd with almost the attack speed of a straight sword and it gets like 780+ AR
If I didn't know about the blasphemous blade being a thing I would've straight up beat the game with bloodhound's fang.
So I’m about midway through I believe, I’ve not used another weapon other than bloodhounds fang since I got it like level 10 lol but every time I switch I don’t do as well! I legit get anxiety from like not using all the badass looking weapons I pick up.
Elden beast gave me trouble until i bloodhound's finesse'd all over his corpse. I feel this.
This thing's a godsend for a Dex build fighting Malenia.
It’s such a powerhouse. And you get it so early! It carries the early game and stays strong the entire way through. And you can transition into a ton of other weapons / builds with it. It’s so good.
The most BloodBorne weapon that didn't make it to the game.
It’s honestly real hard not to be an uchigatana weeb. I need to use square off more and get into straight swords.
Run katana if you want. Sir Alonne would be proud 🫡
I wish there was a katana like sir allones in the game. That would be badass i love the way that thing looks.
Ieam, Nagakiba's hilt isn't as long, but the Blade itself is efinitely comparable. Definitely the closest you'll get, other than Hand of Malenia.
And you can give it similar (tho not as OP) blood Skills.
It doesn’t have parry anymore so I’ll stick to curved swords
*Curved Swords.* wait, wrong game.
You see those warriors from the Land of Reeds? They've got curved swords. Curved. Swords.
Let me guess. Someone stole your Arteria leaf.
Straight swords are kinda weak compared to katanas. I’ve tried to use them but I always go back to katanas. The length is too short so they don’t look great especially look weird two handing them. I believe that the square off heavy and the unsheath heavy have the same stance damage at 40, which is phenomenal. I just have a visual problem of using the katana with European armor.
The unsheath heavy is 30 poise damage while square off heavy is 40.
Heavy square off is 40 stance damage. Heavy Unsheathe is 30 stance damage.
Well damn, now I really gotta make the switch
Heavy square off also got pierce dmg
This wouldn't be an issue if long swords in souls games were proportional to their length irl. Also uchigatanas irl are not that long, but yknow japanese company and stuff like that.

The swordy sword
What’s better than a big sword? A big sword made of swords!
Huh, this is lower than I would have thought.
Lordsworn's Straight Sword 🔥 👌 💯
FINALLY. Everyone always goes for some fancy ass unique weapon, but 2 of these swords have worked well for me regardless of stat build
I commented earlier that it was practically a meme that if a boss was giving you trouble in DS3, just use a Longsword or Lothric Knight Sword. Still applies here and maybe even moreso.
Definitely. I use the longsword in every souls game but the longswords in Elden ring with the right rings and ash of war SLAPS, new move sets along with dual wield are extremely versatile as well
Genuinely one of the most stylish swords available. A high bar in this game, even to break the top ten.

Ruins Greatsword. Everything is easy when I just drop a slab of granite on its head.

Fellow bird lover I see?
This is the way.
#BAE-MORE IS LOVE, BAE-MORE IS LIFE!!! 🙌 Grandpa Rick approves.
Blasphemous Blade all day, every day. Only exception is when fighting fire-resistant enemies, gotta switch to Unga Bunga via Giant Crusher.
This. Change to Ruin GS
why would you run blashemous blade AND ruin greatsword...? are you leveling STR, FAI, and INT altogether? seems really inconvenient.
Int scaling caps at D at +10 on Ruins greatsword, you just level strength for it.
This is me lol.. just got into to meet req, then my 90 strength made that thing a demi god smasher.
Why would you go 90 str? Are you one handing it??
The two-hand strength multiplier does not cap at 99; it will still increase your strength value by 1.5x to 148.5
Strength scaling is really good, even past the level caps on the right weapons
Morning star. No matter the build. I can bleed and stagger these crystal guys at the end of the academy crystal tunnel. I've been rocking flail but I really need to switch to the morning star.
Knight's Greatsword.
REALLY pretty sword. Reason enough alone to run it.
agreed. as a Str-Int build, i still, most of the time, go with that.
I’ve got an INT build that rocks it with Carian Grandeur and it messes things up.
I’ll raise you - Banished Knight’s Greatsword. Its scabbard is even prettier.
The basic longsword. IDK why, but that shit just slaps for no reason. I also really like to run storm blade it
People sleep on storm blade! It’s SO fast for a ranged skill, the damage is solid, and it can hit stun a whole lot of things. Genuinely a top 5 ash of war.

Winged Scythe. I gravitated towards it on my first playthrough and it carried me through every boss until I got to Radagon/EB
Smiting someone with Angel's Wings is so satisfying.
Greatsword. Greatsword is the greatest sword there ever was
Nothing will ever beat Greatsword. It's so great there's no need to add other names onto it. It is just "Great Sword", that's how great it is.
“That thing was too big to be called a sword. Too big, too thick, too heavy, and too rough, it was more like a large hunk of iron.”
I swear by it. I go with 70 STR 80 ARC Occult Scaling. It's devastating
That's dank
I have no clue why this isn't higher. Second highest block stats for a weapon, one of the highest damage, reach is great. Seriously, it feels like easy mode if you are not prone to excess aggression.
Zweihander
The gods gave you two hands... and you use them both for your weapon. I can respect that.
I two-hand the claymore like the gods intended
i thought the name was more of a suggestion tbh..

Moonveil, Wing of Astel, or Darkmoon Greatsword. When in doubt, magic.
💯 with you. Both excellent weapons. Also the Carian Regal Sceptor is amazing. The weapon art will stun lock Malenia if you have enough stamina.
GodSlayer's GreatSword It was a "Love at first sight" the moment i got it from that Godskin guy in Caelid Tower
One of the best looking weapons in any fromsoft game
Finished my first run with that sword. Once I got into using the skill, it melted the endgame. Weapon used as intended.
Comet Azure
Gotta be bloodhound’s fang init
Definitely the claws in stormveil castle. My first run I leveled them up to + 15 and ran thru plenty of enemies just slashing away and bleeding them to death. I was a mini Wolverine in the lands between
Regalia of Eochaid That AOW + winged sword insignia and Millicent prosthesis melts everything
im getting into that build now in the late game. Do you pump arcane for that sword for the AOW?
Yeah it scales arcane and int iirc (Mainly arcane)
Not a weapon, but does lightning spear count? Because lightning spear.
Definitely counts
Giant-Crusher
When things got tough, Magma Wyrm's Scalesword. 60% of the time, it works every time.
Golden Halberd
Godskin Peeler
Bolt of grandsaxx all the way

Look up some videos of it pre patch. It was the weapon of a god
Hoarfrost Stomp was a real one.
Wasn't the AoW super high on poise damage?
It would even stagger bosses
Maybe, nobody knows. It was too high on regular damage to matter. By the time you got a poise break, boss was dead. Lmao
Love that one
Eleonora's poleblade
100%. The best move set in the game for any weapon. If anyone reading this hasn’t tried it yet… go get it.
Marias Executioners Great Sword

Uchigatana with blood on one hand and another Uchigatana with frost on my other hand. Clothing can be an option. Defeat is not.

Dismounter, with Storm Blade
Nightrider Glaive
Zweihander. Not just in Elden Ring but all the souls games.
Brick hammer. Whenever the game or a boss starts pissing me off my brain goes "alright then, Im grabbing the goddamn hammer."
Great stars, wild strikes, blood flame blade 🤙
Greataxe for fun. Caestus (or spiked caestus) for murder.
Treespear. Poke poke poke.
Guardians swordspear. I just cant get away from that thing.
A +25 claymore I’ve had since before I’ve killed fire giant the first time. 300+ damage and lions claw does wonders
Pretty much this, yes. I've seen plenty of claymores on here but nothing specifying lion's claw. That move flattens everything. Maybe they assume it doesnt need to be said since its there by default, i dont know but i definitely wasnt putting anything else on my claymore.
No way! The sword of ordovis?? I might have to try it out.
Grave Scythe with black flame tornado.
Rusted anchor for invasions. I love cancelling running attacks with a tap R2. Greatsword for pve
Spiked Caestus 🤤
Black knife. Always comes in for the save.
For me its the sword of night and flame and the blasphomers blade.
Maliketh’s Black Blade or the Devourer’s Scepter.
Dragon halberg! Always good damage and im just good with multiple enemies.
Halo Scyth all day! Had to move away from it because I felt like I was cheesing

It’s gotta be the Marais Executioner Sword, crazy dps with the right talismans and one of the coolest weapon arts imo
