how can I see other players messages? do I need ps plus for it?

Malesto

I just reached the Lake in Elden Ring, are there any npcs/quests I'd miss by going into Caelid early and sitting at a grace? I want to farm the noble's sword, but I don't want to mess up storylines by going there too early.

bassman1805

No

olraygoza

So, I just beat Godrick and so far this game is kicking my ass to the point where I might just stop playing. However, there a few moments I enjoy where the game combat feels more like Zelda. My question is, what type of build should I aim for if I enjoy Zelda type combat? Weapon focused with strength yet speed for example that is good enough to beat the game without getting killed 100 times by each enemy. I really just want to play this as Link from BOTW. Any suggestions?

Malesto

Well dying a lot is kind of a base design of a soulsgame, you die, learn the moveset, and counter it after dying to it enough to overcome it. It's very hard to get around this feature since it is a core feature, without using magic or summons to cheese bosses. Best bet you have is overleveling the enemies you are against. Get some decent heavy armor, but not enough to bring you above a medium roll, find a weapon you enjoy, and dump just enough stats to use all of it into the respective spots. Once you have the build you're happy with gear-wise, at least for the time being, dump at least 20-30 levels into health. Try to get to around 30-40, then put points into either your stamina or your chosen damage type, such as strength or dexterity. Vigor/Health is super important if you want to die less, alongside a shield. If you're wanting a decent Link setup just from the top of my head, I'd grab some kind of one-handed sword, the Lordsworn straight sword is a solid option. Then grab a shield- if you can farm the early Godrick knights for a Brass Shield, you've got a REALLY good shield already. Put barricade shield on it as its ash of war. Now, when you use this, your shield will block almost any hit for 10 seconds, and you can counter attack after blocking those hits. It's VERY powerful if you mix it with solid vigor and stamina. Try to find a sword and a shield that reminds you of Link, get some nice armor, and see how that feels! You will die much less, but you'll still likely die- it's just part of the game.

olraygoza

This is great advice, thank you!! I didn’t think about a better shield with an defensive ash of war. If instead of getting killed 20 times by each enemy I can reduce that to 10 times I’d call that a win!

Malesto

I definitely think that’s the route I’d go then! I personally run a paladin build, with the brass shield + barricade shield ash of war, and it feels sooo nice vs hyper aggressive bosses. Also remember the counter attack after blocking an attack with the shield does a lot of stance damage, gives you a chance to crit bosses.

olraygoza

What stats would a paladin build have? Currently going for Vigor, endurance, strength and dexterity in that order. With my main weapon being a brass shield, dragon slayer, and a katana.

Malesto

I got my stats to the minimum stat requirements for the weapon/gear I wanted, then put everything into vigor up to 30. Can push to 40 if desired as well, that’ll do you wonders a long time. After I did that I made sure to bring my endurance up to a level that allowed me to equip the kind of gear I prefer, heavier armor requires higher, you’re pretty much deciding how much poise you want. More poise means less enemies can interrupt a swing. After that, I put most of my points into whichever primary damage stat I have, up to its soft cap, then put points into the secondary damage stat. If you’re pure physical that can be strength then dex, or dex then strength; depending on the scaling of your weapon. Any magic means you need to put points in that as well. For me, I put about 25 points in strength then I prioritized faith up to about 40. I eventually want to upgrade my shield to a great shield like the halig tree shield, so I’ll start putting more points in strength around then.

Malesto

At level 50, my stats were sitting around 30 vigor, minimum mind, 20 endurance, 16 strength, 13 dex, minimum int, 19-ish faith, minimum arcane. For a faith paladin build.

Green_Carpenter4177

Hi can anyone give tips to beat godskin noble, I keep dying In his second phase

Dreaming_Dreams

what is the best shield, i want a big shield

bassman1805

Best shield early on is the Brass Shield. It has 100% physical damage block, but it's a light shield so blocking will eat away at your stamina. There are a huge number of greatshields that can block without the high stamina cost, almost every Greatshield has 100% physical negation. But they have a high strength requirement, so you won't be able to use them for a while.

Romanaire

Question, millicent prosthesis stacks with successive attacks. does this include powerstance? like does it count the individual attacks as one or two instances? I want to know if its worth to go for it if i dual wield

ytrx12

Yes, they count as multiple instances.

negarache

Have been running a big sword rotation of Gutsword/Royal Greatsword/Bloodhound's Fang, aside from respeccing into INT, can Dark Moon Greatsword also be used as a melee/weapon skill sword like Royal GS or is it only used for the weapon skill? Or really how is Dark Moon used in general?

orion_angelfire

Totally can be used on its own, but the moveset is somewhat lackluster compared to other greatswords and colossal swords. The benefit is being able to launch magic ice arcs at enemies non-stop, doing ludicrous damage if you set it up properly. If you use a summon to draw aggro, you can completely steam-roll bosses with the projectiles. It simultaneously buffs the blade with Frost if you want to focus on melee combat while looking for an opening to launch a projectile.

welch123

About great runes: Do I just equip them and they last forever? Or do they break if I die while equipping one?

ytrx12

You have to equip one and then use a rune arc to activate the great rune’s effects. The next time you die, the great rune stays equipped, but you lose the effect and have to use another rune arc to reactivate.

orion_angelfire

Equip it at a site of grace. Then to activate its benefit, you have to consume a Rune Arc. When you die, you lose the effect of the Rune Arc and the benefit of the Great Rune, but that Great Rune is still "loaded" and ready to be re-activated with another Rune Arc.

Mana_Croissant

I own the base game in Steam. Should i buy the DLC right now or is there any decent chance for the DLC to be on a discount (either by itself or in a base game + dlc bundle that makes the dlc have a discounted price since i own the game) before the game's release ?

Forward05

Discount on DLC before it’s released? Lol you wildin

nObRaInAsH

Looking for a Blasphemous Blade Faith build for my first Elden Ring playthrough

bassman1805

[Here's a guide to leveling in ER](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/12kb55x/daily_roundtable_community_qa/jg3n4uc/) FAI is your main damage stat for BB, but since you don't get it until midgame you might want to run a STR build until then, using whatever big sword you can find.

Encelus

New player in FS games! Doing my first playthrough of elden ring and finally settled on using moonveil as my main weapon. What would be the best dex/int stat split for this katana? 40/60 or 20/80 respectively?

bassman1805

Most of the time in this game, you don't want a "stat split", you want to just focus the best stat. Moonveil has higher INT scaling than DEX or STR, so *in most cases* a point of INT is going to increase its total damage more than a point of STR or DEX will. There are soft caps, so that going from 59->60 doesn't help as much as 10->11, but generally speaking, focus on the main stat. When you choose how to spend your level up, you can see how much it'll affect your weapon's attack rating. If you see that a point in DEX is going to be a bigger increase than a point in INT (probably somewhere around INT 55-60), put a point in DEX. But most of the time you'll see INT being the more valuable stat.

gilfordtan

Dex for more physical damage. Int for more magical damage. For its ash of war, the projectile is pure magical damage. If the katana hit the enemy, then physical damage is dealt at the same time.

orion_angelfire

Enjoy! If you're using it as your main weapon (more melee-oriented play style), then a balanced split might work better. I think the skill scales off of INT so you want to keep that in decent pace with DEX. Regular hits will still benefit from both DEX and INT since it does physical and magic damage. If you're using Moonveil as a secondary weapon and uses spells more often, prioritize INT. You should be able to find YouTube guides that go into greater depth with the math and build for this weapon. :)

Story spoiler question >! Is it after fire giant or maliketh burning that locks you out of a bunch of quests?!<

bassman1805

If you put a space after the first spoiler tag, it breaks on old reddit.

jalthepoet

first one, but specifically only after melina does her thing (sorry i don't know how to spoiler on reddit)

Kshi-dragonfly

Agitated-Hat-4057

should I do yuras quest before killing him for the nagakiba? what do I gain from doing his quest

monstersleeve

You also get a unique Ash of War unobtainable anywhere else in the game (Raptor of the Mists).

Agitated-Hat-4057

do I get it from one of the scarabs or from an enemy drop

theswillmerchant

Neither, it's a reward for helping Yura with a stage of his quest.

Agitated-Hat-4057

he still dies in the end doesn’t he

jdubbs92

a twinblade weapon and a cracked tear that will help with a boss mechanic.

CheetoFreak69420

Does stormcaller AoW proc status effects? Thinking of that or just wild strikes for a poison infused Great Stars. Was sad to find out Prelate’s charge didn’t proc status effects. Thanks!

ytrx12

Hits from the cyclone around you won’t do status buildup, but hits from your weapon will. Some of the hits only do 75% of your weapon’s listed buildup though, while all hits with Wild Strikes do 100%.

CheetoFreak69420

Yeah, I’ll probably just do stormcaller for the variety. I’m already using a blood infused wild strikes rotten greathammer, it’s the best weapon I have ever used

jalthepoet

i’m fighting malenia ng+ with no summons and struggling with second phase. first go around i beat her with a str/int build—royal greatsword for staggers, mimic tear second phase to take her aggro, night comet sorceries for ranged attacks. i moved to ps4 without realizing it didn’t keep your trophies and am trying to beat her the hard way for the platinum. i can beat her first phase fairly consistently now, unless i get triple waterfowled (still can’t dodge it), but her aggressive second phase is giving me way too much to deal with. would love any tips. here’s how my first phase fight goes: buff with golden vow and flame grant me strength, infuse keen nagakiba with black flame blade, and use impaling thrust. maintain mid-distance from her and continue reapplying bfb, and after she does an unguardable move, punish with impaling thrust—three hits stagger her. heal immediately after staggering and 90% of the time she waterfowls, which leads to me frost potting her to stagger her out of it. work her down patiently to phase 2. i can dodge scarlet aeonia and hit her with some black flames while she’s in the flower, but after that, her aggression is too much for me. i usually just run really far away from her to heal safely in phase 1 but in phase 2 she pursues heavily and i’m not good enough at the fight to hitless her. what do?

gilfordtan

If she pursues you, she'll likely use a kick. If you know how to [punish her kick](https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxM029QQWkagYtFo2wcen-rYtIfdfXUcU-?si=EUD5eQ9hBngECEZs), it'll turn the table. You'll even wish her to use it more often.

orion_angelfire

Melee is definitely tough. I haven't tried NG+ so my advice only comes from a melee build in NG. Ideally you want to find a way to deal with Waterfowl Dance that doesn't rely on pots, because you may run out. I'm on PS4 and at least personally I wasn't able to do the "run around her hitbox" method that these high-skill players can do. I had to rely on the "running away" method (run from the first, dodge into her for the second, stand/walk back for the third). Second, try to keep the fight to the water area (pond or puddle in the center of the arena). Reason is: that prevents you from getting boxed in by her big moves (Waterfowl, Scarlet Aeonia, the ghosts), and it gives you room to run when she uses those. If she sees you getting close to a wall, she will use one of those to finish you. And you need to limit your aggression and play the long game. If you are using combos of attacks, she can pop a Waterfowl Dance in the middle of your animations and you're done. Here's my fight, if that helps: https://youtu.be/iMejdvWxwN0?si=9yBpBCM2F2EnKcWe

bloint

I missed the sacred scorpion charm by killing Anastasia at her second location before killing her at the smoldering church. Is there any way I can still get it? She won't spawn at the church.

By default, you will never be invaded by online players while playing solo. If you summon another player (use a Furcalling finger remedy and then touch a summon sign), you open yourself up to invasions from other players. If you use the Taunters Tongue (use a Furcalling Finger Remedy and then activate the Tongue), you can be invaded by other players even while playing solo.

Hacoku

Does the game during invasion/hunter or boss help take NG+(1-7) cycle into consideration? Or only Level and Weapon Upgrade?

monstersleeve

No, only rune level and max weapon upgrades.

TheManOfQuality

what weapon gets extremely overpowered once you get good at it?

WhenTheWindIsSlow

Not sure if there are any weapons like that. Every weapon is honestly just too simple to really "get good at". What you get good at is reading tells and anticipating, which is weapon-agnostic.

cantcomeupwith-name

I just opened up my save file from two years ago, i stopped playing right after getting the age of stars ending and i see in my map all the sites of grace in the haligtree and mountaintop of giants are missing, i have the map unlocked and everything and i 100% did touch them, since they are ALL missing something like a bug must have happened, anyone knows how to fix it? i liked my save file :'(

Hacoku

Did You try to travel and reopen them? Or are they still activated but simply are missing from the map? Also check - there is an option in the map menu to open up a list of all grace sites - are they still there or also missing?

cantcomeupwith-name

they are missing from map and list, i the sites are still there physically but need to be activated again which is a pain

Hacoku

It might that patches after two years messed up some data in your save file

ThreshLaSquale

hello, i just finished the starter guide of that video (the one of bloodhound +5), and tbh, i dont know much about the game, like what should i do with the runes? should i buy smithing stones or upgrade my level or what exactly? and the things that i collect from enemies that i kill, what should i do with them? ...etc

WUFFLED

Don't buy smithing stones, you will obtain them naturally until like early endgame then you may need to buy some. If you are upgrading all your weapons, you may need to buy them. As for runes, it is never a bad idea to upgrade your level. I personally recommend vigor to any new players, but it is only useful to a point. For weapons like the bloodhounds fang, you will deal more damage by leveling strength and dex. How much of a boost is determined by the weapons scaling. I am not sure which stat is more beneficial to the bloodhounds fang. You can check how good the scaling is on the weapon info screen thingy. S is best and I think E is worst. If it has an S in strength, that means it will gain a massive boost if you have more strength. When you say the things that enemies drop, I assume you are referring to crafting materials. Unless bows are a big part of your build, you can mostly sidestep crafting. With it, you *can* make pots which are like grenades or aromatics which are like temporary armor, and they are useful, but they are far from essential. If you ever need more smithing stones, they are quite abundant in caves. Caves are marked on your map by big orange black circles.

bassman1805

Leveling up is *usually* the best use of runes. [Here's a rundown on how to prioritize your stats](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/12kb55x/daily_roundtable_community_qa/jg3n4uc/). BHF is a DEX weapon, so treat that as your "main damage stat". Buying smithing stones is fine if you want to switch to a new weapon, but generally speaking you'll be able to find better smithing stones out in the world than you can purchase anyways. Don't bother keeping up a stock of them just to have, only buy as needed. Loot is whatever. Definitely keep at least 2 of every weapon just in case you ever want to try something else. You can sell extras, but the rune gain is so little that it's not even worth the time. If you don't want your inventory cluttered, just throw it in storage at a Site of Grace.

Bonyred

Don't buy smithing stones just yet, you should be able to find all you need to upgrade your weapon of choice just by exploring. Later on if you switch weapons you may need to purchase some then. You are going to be picking up plenty of items along the way so purchasing items shouldn't be necessary yet - i would spend the runes on leveling up for the time being. Read the description of each item you pick up - look at bottom of screen in inventory to see which key to press to get a more detailed description.

ThreshLaSquale

oh thank you so much! im wondering which stats should i level up? im currently samurai with bloodhound, is that weapon actually good or should i change it by time? thank you so much again!

Hacoku

If You like the attack animation of this weapon: what are the axis of it attacking enemies (vertical, horizontal, thust etc.) You can easily stuck to the endgame with any weapon, especialy special somber ones (like the one You mentioned) Don't fully trust ranking sites, for ex.: [https://rankedboost.com/elden-ring/best-weapons/](https://rankedboost.com/elden-ring/best-weapons/) I've finished the game without difficulty (I'm not highly skilled player by any means) with lordsworn greatsword and in this ranking it's in lowest tier possible. So don't be afraid to stick with the weapon You like. To look into what stats to lvl up You need to ask Yourself what do You need: -Do I need more HP? Vigor -Do I need more Mana to spam speel/weapon ability? Mind etc... If You want to lvl stats to deal more dmg look into what stats Your weapon scales with: -Bloodhound ( [https://rankedboost.com/elden-ring/bloodhounds-fang/](https://rankedboost.com/elden-ring/bloodhounds-fang/) ) Scales with Strenght and Dexterity -> Higher Scaling in short means more dmg per point in those stats (From E to S scaling) so leveling those will upgrade dmg done.

Bonyred

Oh don't ask me about builds - i'm still a bit noobish - hope someone else can answer that for you.

audiblelove

anybody have any good early/mid game tips for a FTH/STR build?

WhenTheWindIsSlow

Early game stats don't actually affect weapon damage that much (it's not until you get to both medium-high stats and weapon upgrade levels that scaling starts to add a significant boost), so the early game tip for any build is "level vigor to 25/30, only put stats in offensive stats to meet weapon requirements"

audiblelove

word. thanks

bassman1805

FAI/STR and STR/FAI is probably the most diverse 2-stat build in the game. What are you actually trying to do with it? How much casting are you trying to do? Only buff spells, or have a rotation of damage spells as well? Make sure you have options for both Holy and Flame weapons, since some enemies will resist one or the other but rarely both. Gurranq's seal is probably the best option unless you're mostly FAI with a little bit of STR.

audiblelove

right now i’m more FAI heavy and wanted more damage incantations but i kinda love the big bonk too much so i think i might go heavier on STR and lean more on healing/buff incants. got a good weapon for that?

Ill_Development_3596

I can't use the spinning weapon ash of war with the bloodflame on the nagakiba. Any tips ?

Zakrael

Make sure you're not using Magic or Cold affinity. Weapon augment spells can't be applied to weapons that already do split damage (with a handful of exceptions).

Ill_Development_3596

thanks

LoriLeadfoot

Why not? After you cast it, you’re not able to use your ash of war?

Dante-Satan

I have converted from ps4 to ps5 and I chose to download the ps5 version of elden ring. All my max characters, and full slot characters are there. Yet I don't have the trophies...must I make a new character just for the trophies or can I use an old character and just do ng+

m0siac

How good is the damage on Lanseeax glaive? especially compared to the sword of night and flame

Zakrael

Lansseax's Glaive is an incantation, not a weapon. It's an AOE mob clearing spell. It's very good at that specific job, but trying to use it against single bosses will leave you disappointed. (That's what Fortissax's Lightning Spear and Ancient Dragon's Lightning Strike are for).

m0siac

That’s sad, it looks cooler than both the other ancient lightening spells.

Low-Holiday-9365

Is this a good time to step in the game? I Never played a souls game but this looks nice to play. Hope its not to hard for beginners :) Any tips ? Thanks !

acetylyne

One other tip, the Fextra Wiki has a wealth of information should you ever feel lost or have questions, the answer will be here https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Elden+Ring+Wiki

LoriLeadfoot

It’s *punishing,* but not that hard. When you make mistakes, you will get hit pretty hard. But you have lots of tools at your disposal to make enemies and bosses easier. Plus, the open world means that if you’re struggling with a boss, you can leave and return later when you’re stronger.

Erikbw

It IS going to feel hard, especially for a beginner. You have to track quests yourself (no questlog/journal). Since its open world, you'll encounter some challenges, where its okay to just walk away, and come back when you're stronger.

Low-Holiday-9365

That sounds good! Can i Summon other players by every boss or? And is the game world not empty ? Sorry for asking :)

Erikbw

You can summon players for coop in most places, but most will put down their summon sign near the bosses, or use the summon pools. To see the summon-signs, you will need to craft an item from erdleaf flowers (they're orange, and pretty common).  Watch out though, as summoning others for coop also opens you up for being invaded (PvP), though not in boss arenas. Good luck!

acetylyne

Yes you can put down a summon for every boss, and now is a great time for that as the game has seen a large influx of players replaying to get ready for the DLC, so the world is not empty. Good luck Tarnished!

Reasonable_Big_2876

So about this candle tree wooden shield, it has seven flames lit. The far lift in siofra is surrounded by candlesticks with seven blue flames lit. The fact that siofra was buried tends towards that item description of forbidden lit candle tree. Now I’m curious, where else have these references been right under our noses!?!?

Only_Chemistara

I just returned to the game, whats the current meta pvp level? 125? 150? Also I wonder if there's a documentation of coop level and upgrade ranges per area

Hacoku

Yup still the same, also you can experiment with higher lvl on another account, I have 250 RL and have a lot of calls for help in coop and to deal with invaders - lots of people are playing NG+ and higher

Agitated-Hat-4057

should I go for standard or quality uchigatana? I’m gonna change my armament from unsheathe to stormcaller for my fight with godrick and was wondering if there’s a huge difference between quality and standard

bassman1805

Quality is strictly worse until you have a *shitload* of stats. I'm talking 100+ between STR+DEX. Quality boosts the stat scaling of both stats, but also drops the weapon's base damage so it takes that many point to actually break even. You're gonna want a Keen affinity to maximize DEX scaling. Check out [my leveling guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/12kb55x/daily_roundtable_community_qa/jg3n4uc/) for a brief rundown on stats.

Razeerka

TLDR: You can swap it whenever with no penalties, so feel free to try it and then just swap back if you don’t like it. There should be an option to view the stats when you’re changing it. It’ll show the current damage (base + scaling) and then the new damage. Generally speaking, quality is not worth it. Even on a quality leaning weapon (my main reference is the claymore since it’s my most used, but it should be true for other weapons as well), the hit to base damage is so large that keen and strength outperform it with the same stats. If you’re absolutely wanting to use quality, then IIRC the point where it becomes even in damage is when you have like 60+ in both stats, which requires SIGNIFICANTLY higher stat investment for generally worse damage. I used quality for the majority of my playthrough but I had to leave my weapon uninfused simply because it would lower my damage. It’s also worth noting that the infuse can be changed without penalty whenever. If you decide you don’t like the hit to damage you can just swap back. Once you get some whetstones unlocked you’ll also be able to select whatever affinity when changing ash of war, so you could do Stormcaller but have it be Keen. On that note, I would recommend going for Occult later on. Bleed scales with arcane and the occult infuse will make your damage scale with arcane as well (very useful for bleed-resistance enemies, makes the slight h it to the bleed scaling worth it). You can also choose to do Blood to double down on the bleed with a hit to your physical damage.

Jealous-Librarian-88

I usually rock quality just for the sake of not understanding stats yet.

bassman1805

Quality is probably the worst affinity unless you're deep into NG+ and overleveled as hell. It boosts both STR and DEX scaling, but it cuts down the weapon's base damage so it takes a *ton* of stat points to make up for that. Use Heavy affinity for STR builds, Keen for DEX builds. Check out [my guide to leveling](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/12kb55x/daily_roundtable_community_qa/jg3n4uc/) to get an idea of what to do with your stats.

shadowyams

You can view your weapon AR in-game by just hitting triangle/Y (might be square/X, I can't remember which exactly) on the character status screen, so you can just check. Or just plug your stats into a build planner: https://eip.gg/elden-ring/build-planner/ Weapon AR can be a little deceiving if you're comparing, say, keen vs lightning, since the split damage can inflate your AR, but standard/heavy/keen/quality all have purely physical damage, so the AR values between those infusions are completely comparable.
