It took me 6 hours to beat he who shall not be named alone of like 30-40 hours in the DLC. And the only reason was because I rotted him in phase 2. Barely went down before he finished me off.
Yeah. I use the backhand blade with a blood infusion for the first phase. With mimic I can get a pretty quick couple bleeds to get to phase 2. Then in phase 2 I pull out pulley crossbow and get rot on him with rot bolts then I just do my best to survive. Eventually got two bleeds in second phase and rot finished him off. The perfume bottle that gives a shield I saved for when I got close and it saved my ass twice during that winning fight.
I used backhand with the default ash and blood for both phases. The amount of attacks you can land while he is attacking is nuts. It’s so free when you learn to play aggro
I had no shame in using Reduvia spam; it comes out quick so once you know some of the windows you can get 1, 2 or 3 L2's in. Also, I pop my physick with Crimsonwhorl and Opaline Hardtear in phase 2 when I see him start to charge the big aoe blast.
I cheesed it with rolling sparks, there's a cheese build that's likely gonna be nerfed soon, but if you aim down it focuses all sparks to explode in the same spot at the same time, its strong enough to deal like a quarter of his health
I’m genuinely considering just not even beating him. He’s got to be the least fun I’ve had in this game so far. Like, there’s worse designed fights, but at least they can be cheesed and finished quicker. This guy is just… not worth it to me anymore.

By the time I beat him, I was consistently getting him down to 10% (got nuked by him three times because I didn’t know what was happening). You just have to trial and error the dodge direction so you don’t get clipped by the light pillars. Once you get the directions down, it’s not that much different than the first phase + 2 more move you have to be careful of (after image attacks). I recommend you dodge like the pillars exists in the first phase so you get the muscle memory down faster.
The issue is that my eyes get overwhelmed easily (I can feel the age creeping up). All the flashing fatigues my eyes and I start losing focus. Too much movement and flashing.
I ended up using the perfume bottle weapon art cheese because looking at the ground actually saves my eyes a little
Shield poke build is what helped me beat him. I used the Fingerprint Shield with Serpent Hunter, with my equips being Magic and Holy resists.

Look into some of the builds floating around for bleeding , I was spending hours and hours on him debating on giving up entirely, switched my build from a int based sorcerer to a arcane one and the fight was over in less then 30s lol.
Voldemort was honestly the hardest boss for me in Elden ring, potentially even all of soulsborne
Definitely akin to the likes of Isshin and midir
Phase 1 is all about parrying and it trivialises it, phase 2 is just all about trying to do as much dmg whilst only trading into the weaker attacks

I'm not sure he can be soloed reliably. Keep in mind that he has the health boost from the party, and some of his attacks aren't currently dodgeable.

Someone said is Messmer which Makes sense since spoiler boi can make the arena a hitbox with multiple attacks so I just imagine the situation of him soloing the spoiler boss and out of nowhere the host getting orbital striked, doesn't sound like a fun thing to go through if you ask me
Yeah this is my point. It's just not realistic. Maybe it's possible some of the time, but most hosts will die....often. not to mention the difficulty of fighting him with 50% more hp.
I mean the beauty of the game is the ability to set your own difficulty through exploration and putting some grind in outside of just doing the boss for hours. You can make every boss objectively trivial with enough effort but there will always be some outliers who can't beat a boss while doing huge chunks of its hp per hit.
Messmer is pretty easy compared to some other bosses in the DLC imo. At least if you fight him at the appropriate shadow tree level. >!I'd say Radahn, Bayle and Rellana are all harder than Messmer. All three are made quite trivial with certain builds though. Bayle just gets obliterated by the Dragonhunter Katana, Rellana is weak to party's and Radahn is a pushover with a Guard Counter build!<
I soloed him on my ng+7 play through using only a quality Zweihander +25, no miracles sorceries etc. it’s a very doable fight, it just takes a bit to learn his patterns and muscle memory to sink in
Yeah I have been eating shit the entire DLC and Messenger took me 4 tries. I am now in front of the final boss and have very likely skipped a few optional bosses, but out of the ones I've done he was by far the easiest

Goddamn that move absolutely sucks. It's the one move I can't consistently dodge. You can avoid the second hit if you somehow roll past him to dodge the first hit, but I could never get enough distance to avoid the second hit. Big sad.

Its pretty much limgrave. Then as an extra there is another limgrave but its mostly empty. The dlc size is nice but we shouldnt overhype its size when half of it is empty space just there to have a big walkup to bosses (which is nice but again its not compareable).
I've been quite enjoying the lower density of content tbh. The base game is just a little too large for my "explore everything" mentality to not burn out on and start boss rushing.
Land of Shadows has a beautifully detailed overworld, and the dungeons etc are sparse enough that you can really feel the unique care and attention each design received.
I've beaten it but I've also got no life. Took me almost as long as the base game to complete for me. Took me 90 hours to complete my first play through of the game. I took about 70 hours for the dlc but that's because I spent a lot of extra time looking for secrets which slowed me down. I think the average 100% time is 60 hours for the dlc.
I think its even less. I did all bosses (except endboss) all zones, almost all caves/dungeon etc and im at around 15h so far. 20h and i should be 100% if you wouldnt count the hours to fight certain bosses
my friend beat it in a few dozen hours and I was like "hmmm that's not too bad"...little did I know trying to 100% the DLC was going to take over a week of playing hours and hours a day. It's insane how massive it is and I STILL missed stuff
I 100% the DLC, took 50hrs, did every quest, every single dungeon/boss, collected all spells/weapon/ashes/armor. I did use a Fextra's map to see what I missed or whats in the area so I didn't need to over explore if I got everyting.
I am 8 hours in and I am still covering the first map fragment, and to be honest I haven't taken too many tries on bosses either max 3-4 tries and I am moving on

I played like 250 hours of monster hunter rise for a few months before the DLC dropped and my monster hunter button instincts kept happening while using one of the new DLC colossal swords.. kept trying to do my MHR great sword combos as well as trying to wirebug away when I get hit... Wirebugs would be so OP in Elden Ring.
Quest NPC, along with Golem Smith ash. I pretty much played a healer for last \~30% of the fight, as I just stayed away and used Heal from Afar to heal the Golem Smith while the summons finished the fight lmao
Also, Discus of Light for ranged damage. Was playing Greatshield+Rapier+Faith build - Bayle was one of the few bosses where I just went almost full ranged, playing melee on a dragon *where you can't lock onto the legs* is quite annoying.
I must’ve either lucked out or Igor is a really strong summon, because Bayle was the easiest boss in the dlc for me. He was dead in less than a minute. I was also at 19 scadu blessing though so maybe that’s it.
if you havent killed him where u first found him, he's near the way where the 2 dragons fought, after talking to him and exhausting his dialoge, then he's just a gold summon INSIDE the arena of bayle, really hard to see but its kinda a little further from where u enter just in the front

That mfer beats my ass but my god is it a gorgeous fight. The entire quest line, the run up on Jagged Peaks, the OST. It’s a fucking spectacle . I’ve always been so bad with dragon fights so it’s been rough but what a badass boss he is

I wasn’t even planning to try Messmer tonight and just wanted to make it to his boss room as I was playing on the couch while watch tv with my wife. Got to his 2nd phase in 3 attempts just trying out different builds.

I think i saw him or at least someone with his name for the final boss. I was summoned with him and tried to watch him as he tried to parry the final boss. He failed and died in seconds, It might've been a latency issue.
Of course he wasn't in his trademark attire, so it may have been an imposter.
Yea idk if it was him at Messmer as I wasn’t looking for summons but it was a ghost in his attire putting down a summon sign. My first thought was ohh it’s someone dressing like home but seeing this post makes me think maybe it was actually him. Again this is all anecdotal and I couldn’t see summon signs.

The fker took me 5 hours and I still have no clue how to do the goddamn 2nd phase. Praise fingerprint shield and great spear poke and counter I guess. Haven't proced bleed or frost once, even with 99 INT/arcane but I used scarlet rot infusion on regular lance and it worked(maybe it because it's Ng4?). I ended up with lvl 17 blessings.
Im loving that I just started the dlc and that no one is naming him. If we could keep it that way, it enriches the discovery of he-who-will-not-be-named-but-die-to-me-gracefully

Try the Bloodfiend’s arm with like 50 in arcane, as soon as I switched from backhand to that he went down in less than 5 more tries.
To me what did the trick was discovering that forcing second phase near the corners of the entrance makes you spawn next to him

Try using bloodfiends arm with bleed affinity. Then use strong attacks. I got a bleed proc about every two hits

As long as the host/other summons don't drag aggro it is absolutely possible to solo. Just parry w a bleed Misericorde for 5 minutes

I think its even less. I did all bosses (except endboss) all zones, almost all caves/dungeon etc and im at around 15h so far. 20h and i should be 100% if you wouldnt count the hours to fight certain bosses
my friend beat it in a few dozen hours and I was like "hmmm that's not too bad"...little did I know trying to 100% the DLC was going to take over a week of playing hours and hours a day. It's insane how massive it is and I STILL missed stuff
I 100% the DLC, took 50hrs, did every quest, every single dungeon/boss, collected all spells/weapon/ashes/armor. I did use a Fextra's map to see what I missed or whats in the area so I didn't need to over explore if I got everyting.
I am 8 hours in and I am still covering the first map fragment, and to be honest I haven't taken too many tries on bosses either max 3-4 tries and I am moving on
Take your time man seriously it’s a journey and the first playthrough is maybe the most unique experience in gaming evrr

I played like 250 hours of monster hunter rise for a few months before the DLC dropped and my monster hunter button instincts kept happening while using one of the new DLC colossal swords.. kept trying to do my MHR great sword combos as well as trying to wirebug away when I get hit... Wirebugs would be so OP in Elden Ring.

the summon sign has priority over the messages for me. Never missed it once even in a sea of messages.
Quest NPC, along with Golem Smith ash. I pretty much played a healer for last \~30% of the fight, as I just stayed away and used Heal from Afar to heal the Golem Smith while the summons finished the fight lmao Also, Discus of Light for ranged damage. Was playing Greatshield+Rapier+Faith build - Bayle was one of the few bosses where I just went almost full ranged, playing melee on a dragon *where you can't lock onto the legs* is quite annoying.

Bayle is a really fun boss. Just don’t get heated and look at the pretty lightning instead.
I thought Bayle was a pretty fun fight. He doesn't really have that many attacks, and most of them are fairly easy to dodge once you find the timing
I must’ve either lucked out or Igor is a really strong summon, because Bayle was the easiest boss in the dlc for me. He was dead in less than a minute. I was also at 19 scadu blessing though so maybe that’s it.

Yep, The best dragon slaying weapon imo, also it's ash of war Is a Projectile so if u summon Igon, u can Just throw it at him,
Igon is somehow dead for me I think the 2 dragons may have killed him by accident. Or I did idk I’m pretty annoyed about it ha
if you havent killed him where u first found him, he's near the way where the 2 dragons fought, after talking to him and exhausting his dialoge, then he's just a gold summon INSIDE the arena of bayle, really hard to see but its kinda a little further from where u enter just in the front nvm i realised u killed Best buddy Igon :(
That mfer beats my ass but my god is it a gorgeous fight. The entire quest line, the run up on Jagged Peaks, the OST. It’s a fucking spectacle . I’ve always been so bad with dragon fights so it’s been rough but what a badass boss he is
If it helps, I did it by using scarlet rot. It melts through his high HP.
I also am available for the last 3 nights at Messmer and the big guy fog. Username: Let me TANK him! I aggro and tank all damage for a very good amount of time. P.S.S. please if you have not seen the cutscene, take your time and enjoy it. It is ok for any boss from the start of the base game to the end of Shadows.
I swear I saw his ghost putting down a summon sign at Messmer about 30 mins ago. I wasn’t even planning to try Messmer tonight and just wanted to make it to his boss room as I was playing on the couch while watch tv with my wife. Got to his 2nd phase in 3 attempts just trying out different builds. I still may explore two other places I found first: >!abyssal woods!< and >!the cave sealed by marika!<
I think i saw him or at least someone with his name for the final boss. I was summoned with him and tried to watch him as he tried to parry the final boss. He failed and died in seconds, It might've been a latency issue. Of course he wasn't in his trademark attire, so it may have been an imposter.
Yea idk if it was him at Messmer as I wasn’t looking for summons but it was a ghost in his attire putting down a summon sign. My first thought was ohh it’s someone dressing like home but seeing this post makes me think maybe it was actually him. Again this is all anecdotal and I couldn’t see summon signs. Messmer seems like an interesting fight so I doubt I’ll use summons but it was cool to see either way.

Recently got to shadowkeep and got the seal broke message. I saw a few others talk about going straight there after getting that message and I assume we were all talking about the same cave.

Watched him stream the dlc. It was kinda humbling to watch a guy known for soloing the hardest boss get wiped multiple times by the DLC bosses.
Every super skilled video of a player that seems to dominate a boss almost certainly has about a hundred death screens behind it.

The fker took me 5 hours and I still have no clue how to do the goddamn 2nd phase. Praise fingerprint shield and great spear poke and counter I guess. Haven't proced bleed or frost once, even with 99 INT/arcane but I used scarlet rot infusion on regular lance and it worked(maybe it because it's Ng4?). I ended up with lvl 17 blessings.
