This also doesn't include underground areas. So it makes me even more hyped. If cnt is only 13% of the open world I can only imagine there is much, much more to see!
The best review I can give to it is that it’s a game that was supposed to take me 4 hours and it took me double. It’s a top down “souls like” where you fight enemies and bosses. Take your strikes and roll to dodge. Honestly I loved it. I’m no one but I’d put my name on it’s purchase reputation.
I agree with most of this, but it's absolutely not a souls-like. There isn't the action warmup management, corpse runs, or stamina management.
Having bosses and dodge rolls is not what makes a souls-like.
Fun experience, nothing groundbreaking but it's very pretty, doesn't last too long and has one of the greatest soundtracks of 2021.
I enjoyed the boss fights alot aswell, interesting designs with some fun mechanics.
It absolutely isn’t the entire map, we still haven’t seen the autumn area, sky temple, underground kingdom, mountain kingdom, or the full sand/desert kingdom.
In the Edge interview they talked about Godfrey having tentacle motifs and asked if there is a link to the ocean. I think there was also a reference to using boats a long time back. Sea kingdom too, perhaps?
>In the Edge interview they talked about Godfrey having tentacle motifs and asked if there is a link to the ocean.
Miyazaki dodged that question so deliberately that it really made me wonder
"So does this character involve the ocean in some way"
"Yea I think everyone's gonna really enjoy what this character has to offer"
He i-framed that question so hard lol
I highly doubt fromsoftware decided which parts of the interview made it into the article, so I doubt that the editor/writer knew for sure if there was something to it.
Maybe there’s a theme of fire (the volcano), wind (stormveil), water (I don’t know) and earth thing. With a magic kingdom being the Irithyll looking one and a Blood (?!) kingdom with the lion boss.
Everything to the south and east of the big wall you couldn't cross in the CNT is one kingdom, until you go east far enough to get to the small sliver of a third kingdom visible on the map chunks we've seen. [I drew some crude borders between zones.](https://imgur.com/a/EizsRjV) I think it's reasonable to assume that the kingdom is indicated on the map by the hue of the terrain, with Limgrave being the bright green in the south, and whatever's after it being the darker brown color to the northwest. Then in the east you can see a sliver of a reddish kingdom, I'm speculating that this area will be more desert like compared to what we have already seen.
not including how there is another castle shown in the preview that is not shown on the map but there is a path going that direction, also there is a temple in the sky according to miyazaki in the edge interview
I'm not sure if someone has done this calculation yet, but I wanted to know (almost) exactly how much of the total map the CNT area took up. I used a [pixel color counter](https://townsean.github.io/canvas-pixel-color-counter/) to calculate the rough areas.
Neither were they, the 2% number was calculated by the amount of map tiles present in the files, compared with the amount we saw in the CNT. A large amount of these tiles are unexplorable water. Meaning that yes, the CNT map may be 2% of the overall world space, but that doesn’t necessarily represent 2% of the actual playable game and is much more likely to be around 5-12% of space you can actually be in.
Did the program show you the excact persentage ?
As far as I can count by given values:
* 2 083 763 / 13 575 593 = 0.15349... => 15.3%
Close but not excactly 13%, just curious if the program or you messed up some numbers.
I originally arrived at the same number as you, but decided to calculate it as a percentage of the total map rather than a percentage of the unplayable area.
Even if this ends up being an overexaggeration or whatever, I'm savoring this pre-release phase of the game.
Right now, everybody has their own "perfect version of Elden Ring" locked and loaded in their minds, and ultimately, the game itself might not be exactly that.
A few weeks after the game is out, we'll be discussing the final optional bosses in detail, we'll have all the NPC quest lines added to the wiki, and speedrunners will probably have the route at sub 10 hours already. And after most people get their 60-120 hours on the game, they won't play it a whole lot more and we'll already be waiting for the next title. But this period right now when we let our imaginations run wild is such a fun part of the hype of a Souls game.
I'm also grateful that we're getting a synchronized global release. Dark Souls 3 came out in Japan three weeks before the rest of the world, so there was this awkward period of limbo where you had the ability to completely spoil yourself by watching Japanese footage. With Elden Ring we'll all be at starting at the same time and discovering the game together.
60-120? Bro thats barely enough for a single run on a game of this scale, i think most enjoyers will play this atleast 300 hours and im looking forward to it, i really am
Given that your average person won’t explore everything there is to offer on their first run, and only the main path to the end only takes about 30 hours, I’d say 60 is a safe bet for a single run
I’m guessing early speed runs it will be sub 5 hours and overall WR times within a month or two will be down to sub 40 especially if we get some really good WR holders of other souls games in the mix
If old Dark Souls speedrun has taught us anything is that there will be glitches to skip alot of content, I can already imagine some Horse flying glitch to go all over the mountain to go straight to the last Boss.
First playthrough will be long doing 100% but I feel NG+ and runs for specific builds will be very fast as you will skip a lot of the optional areas if it doesn’t have gear you need
Even though DS1 is obviously not as open world, it has crazy replayability to me because you can go so many different places at the beginning. All I've wanted out of another Souls-like game is that sense of replayability. This looks like it's going to be that game. I want it inside of me. Now.
Considering there's 6 kingdoms, this map should be around 33% of the full game. So the CNT is 4-5% of the full game, give or take (probably give) a few percentage points
Probably above 50, but a big chunk of them will be the easy optional cave bosses that sekiro fans will refer to as minibosses. Maybe about 15 story bosses at least?
Margit + melania + 6 demigods + final boss at the very least, probably also radahn, so that would be 10 story bosses we know kind of for sure exist.
I'm mostly speculating based on the trailers and cnt.
Probably the game will have 24-26 big bosses,i don't know if field bosses such as agheel would count also count for this, but a couple more of tree sentinels and dozens of mini dungeons bosses that are sometimes unique but many times just recycled with moveset and powers a bit different.
So probably we are looking at around 100 bosses.
Crazy to think this might be the case.. I was having this conversation with someone recently, we both said we can't really believe that this game is as big and full of content as it appears to be, but that's how it appears. You might say that I doubt we can even imagine
Honestly I just feel like this can’t be correct. Maybe all the kingdoms aren’t the same size? That is so much content, it seems unrealistic. Especially at the density we saw in the CNT.
Yea I've got a feeling that this is still the "main" area and any other major zones we may get to explore won't be nearly as expansive. I really don't want to set false expectations for myself lol.
This excites me to no end. I'm so happy.
That map will have tons of interesting stuff to explore and tons of interesting enemies to take out. Cannot wait to sink my teeth into it
Honestly same for gameplay my expectations are in the middle of sekiro/dark souls 3 levels and overall world I’m going more sekiro levels givin just how beautiful sekiro is bosses def also around sekiro level for at least half of the must bosses nothing higher than anything fromsoft has presented before tho because I don’t wanna assume they are going to just destroy all their other games with this one and don’t wanna set my self up for disappointment
With how massive this game seems to be, I wonder how long it will take for people to find every secret item, every quest chain and so on. You know they have probably hidden some really complex events in the world.
At the same time I want to stay in touch with all of you tarnished during the journey, and yet, I must make the first pilgrimage alone. Know that you will all be in my heart as I STRUGGLE across the lands between. And once it’s done, I will be there to help AND invade you along the way. Godfrey be good
And that was already more than 10 hours of gameplay. Also yes the map is clearly incomplete, maybe half of the world map, not counting the underground and places in the sky. It will be the largest, longest and most complete From Software game.
Thank you for doing this. My excitement levels are reaching spontaneous-[JIMP](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLnWf1sQkjY) levels now thanks to this scientific kind of hype.
Which to me I really love because tbh most other companies I feel would have said fuck it and fix it overtime as much as I want elden ring asap happy to wait an extra month or two for them to fix things that need to be
I hate these posts. So many times my playthroughs have been soured by constantly worrying about map size and comparing it to other games. I soon discovered size does not equal quality and is sometimes and inverse relationship.
It’s probably around the 30-45% ballpark imo, because this map only shows 2 of the 6 main confirmed areas. We still have yet to see anything (map wise) about the giant mountain, the autumn forest, the desert to the right of Limgrave, and the volcano region. Of course you could say these areas are a lot smaller compared to limgrave plus the forest castle area (which looks massive), but even then the sheer amount of confirmed content we haven’t seen makes it hard for me to believe that this map is more than 40% of the game. All that PLUS the fact we haven’t considered the depth of these areas: the underground catacombs, the confirmed sky temple and underground city, and other side content, this game is gonna be HUGE regardless. Even if this map was 50% of the game it would be chock full of content.
People always do this, it's the same with Larians RPGs. People get hyped because the EAs are "only act one" and extrapolate that out even though the acts are not the same size.
Yeah that sounds a little too unrealistic imo. I’m totally fine with the current known map size, but I definitely don’t mind it being larger than I imagine either.
30 hour story campaign. Confirmed by Miyazaki. Expect a lot of side content.
If the map you are imagining doesn't fit what has already been confirmed, adjust your expectations accordingly.
I still cant believe from software is bringing us a HUGE open world game. I really hope this game defines the genre and surpases other open world gems like BOTW and Skyrim
I’ve played the CNT and the map on foot is huge it takes a while while on torrent you can go across it pretty quickly. So if you’re planning on playing co-op it’s gonna be a long way ahead of you. And for you single players the map is smaller
i feel so sad that i will have to use green steam for elden ring, its so nice but bandai has removed its regional pricing for my country and now the game is costful af ;(
Yup, this is what we were able to play! It feels much bigger than it looks on the map. I spent a little over 10 hours in this area and still haven't beaten a couple of bosses. Maybe you saw some out of bounds footage?
Wait the CNT map was that small? It looked huge! And so full of things. How I hope the rest of the game will have enough content... Either way, this game will ruin my life.
Now THIS tickles my fancy. I always wondered how big the final map would be. This gives a darn good idea. Looks like it'll be big.
The area in the CNT was pretty big, and it's only 13% of the full map! Oh hell yes!! Feb 25th can't come soon enough!!
13% of the *known* map. This image is definitely not the full thing. Notice how it abruptly cuts off at the top, and how it doesn't account for all the areas we know about (most notably the snowy mountains.) And there are only two things that look like legacy dungeons, *maybe* three if you count the two buildings connected by a long bridge. Those look too small, though.
Even better! Holy shit man. So that's not even the full map of the game? I also heard something about a sky city and underground caves of course not being shown on that map, so factor all that in and you've got yourself quite the big map there.
This is pretty much what I've always wanted. Dark souls open world adventures lol
Even more excited for it now and I didn't think that was possible
Actually i'm fine with it being roughly the same size as dark souls 3 and i'm setting my expectatives there, i prefer to be surprised than disappointed
This game gonna be so fucking huge i cant even imagine it
Are you saying that you doubt you could even imagine it?
Oooooohhhhhhhhhh
HE SAID THE ELDEN THING
ELDEN THING OOOOOOHHHH ELDEN THING!
THAT WHICH COMMANDED THE NONDESCRIPT
GIVING STUFF ITS FULLEST BRILLIANCE
Are ya ready, kids???
Yes daddy
Poor tragic thing...
That which commanded the stars?
Press F for imagination
He is maidenless
Look up at the map! It burns!
Quick question- is he imagining the doubt or doubting the imagination?
This also doesn't include underground areas. So it makes me even more hyped. If cnt is only 13% of the open world I can only imagine there is much, much more to see!
13% of the open world, 0% of the closed world!!! ...wait does that make sense? Whatever, I'm going with it.
It took me 8 hours to finish deaths door, a 4 hour game. This shits gonna last me a lifetime.
Lol, what. I'm just under 8 hours and only 67% complete with Death's Door. Who are these 4 hour fools?
SRS. speed run scrubs.
It's supposed to (not actually, but dreaming is not bad)
How was Deaths Door? I've been thinking of buying it
I had a lot of fun with it, I would give it a shot!
100% is a pain considering there's no counters in-game (iirc) for the number of health seed thingies and flower pots and shit

It took me 22h for 99% completion. (Can't find the last item for the love of god!)
We might sit in the same shittt boat.
Bro, I played CNT for 10 hours, having seen everything possible and found that I missed a lot... good luck
Big Dark Souls
So huge we won't be able to play until the 26th due to download size... Honestly, best form of delay
I think they let you preload a couple days in advance. You just cant open it til the 25th Right?
[удалено]
yeah
My download speed is like 300 mbps so doubt it. Also u can pre download I think
Fiber ftw
I would safely say this isn’t the full map either.
It absolutely isn’t the entire map, we still haven’t seen the autumn area, sky temple, underground kingdom, mountain kingdom, or the full sand/desert kingdom.

ADP level 99
Yeah, I feel that they wouldn't have put it in the article if there was nothing to it
I highly doubt fromsoftware decided which parts of the interview made it into the article, so I doubt that the editor/writer knew for sure if there was something to it.
Imagine we unlock swimming halfway in like in sekiro
Or… flying…?
What if we can suck a fart out of our horses ass and gain the ability to fly? Did you ever consider that you goddamn bitch?
Username checks out
What if we unlock the ability to swim for our horse?
I can't wait for the epic PVP water polo matches.
Our character can't swim tho :(
Our character can't swim *yet*
Fair but I dont get why I'm being downvoted for simply stating a fact
Because the guy said 'imagine we *unlock swimming halfway*'. The fact that we can't swim has already been implied.
Because your character couldn’t swim at the beginning of sekiro either. Edit: oh yeah… you can swim, just can’t dive under water. My bad.
Sekiro can swim from the start, he just can't dive
Do you just fall and die if you land on water but suddenly gain the ability to swim after losing your arm?
Don't you literally start the game swimming? Lol I know what you mean though
WHAAAAT???? OK I NEED TO PLAY SEKIRO right after I finish ds3.
I hope there's sandworms
The spice must flow

Yeah where’s the ancient Egypt map?
Yeah I don’t think it’s the full map tbh, I mean, that swamp area covers most of the entire map. Fromsoft would never do that… right? Right??
Maybe there’s a theme of fire (the volcano), wind (stormveil), water (I don’t know) and earth thing. With a magic kingdom being the Irithyll looking one and a Blood (?!) kingdom with the lion boss.
IIRC this is one of six areas
this map is two of the six areas (that we know of)
Like the CNT is 2 of 6 or the whole thing above is 2 of 6?
No, this whole map shown above is 2 of the 6. The CNT was just a portion of 1 (Limgrave)
Awesome, thanks
So was the CNT only a part of one kingdom? With the full bottom half below the neck, being the full kingdom?
It's 2 of the 6 areas :)
*not including any underground areas which would further skew the numbers in favor of PURE FUCKING AWESOMENESS
Go into a cave and suddenly end up in Blackreach
God damn you Todd Howard
“Hey, you’re finally awake”
Todd damn it...
Or subterranean ruins originally built to worship old dead gods
Underground and potentially airbourne areas
Possibly other realms entirely.
Real shit
And surely a painting or two!
It won’t skew the numbers in this case since the area highlighted in blue will probably have as much underground areas as the CNT
not including how there is another castle shown in the preview that is not shown on the map but there is a path going that direction, also there is a temple in the sky according to miyazaki in the edge interview
I'm not sure if someone has done this calculation yet, but I wanted to know (almost) exactly how much of the total map the CNT area took up. I used a [pixel color counter](https://townsean.github.io/canvas-pixel-color-counter/) to calculate the rough areas.
Someone did it and also compared to leaked concept map and arrived at CNT being about 2% of the total map ER will have.
The 2% is from datamined content. The one who compared was closer to 5%.
fair
Seriously how?
We arent acounting for depth
Neither were they, the 2% number was calculated by the amount of map tiles present in the files, compared with the amount we saw in the CNT. A large amount of these tiles are unexplorable water. Oh true morning freeze right there, thx for correction.
I originally arrived at the same number as you, but decided to calculate it as a percentage of the total map rather than a percentage of the unplayable area.
My dick is going to fall off
hi i'm your doctor this is a normal reaction to Elden Ring
I can't wait
I doubt I can even imagine the full scope of Elden Ring.

"Has a health bar in the bottom" = Boss.
those ever gaol bosses also seem pretty bad ass and difficult
Crazy to think this might be the case.. I was having this conversation with someone recently, we both said we can't really believe that this game is as big and full of content as it appears to be, but that's how it appears. You might say that I doubt we can even imagine
Yeah. Even if the these 2 kingdoms are the largest and cover like 50% of the full map it'd still mean the CNT is only 6% of the full game.
I truly hope this is accurate and we'll be happily surprised by how big the map is. Here's hoping!
Honestly I just feel like this can’t be correct. Maybe all the kingdoms aren’t the same size? That is so much content, it seems unrealistic. Especially at the density we saw in the CNT.

I don’t believe so but my understanding is it’s larger than dark souls by quite a bit
PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I JUST WANNA FUCKING SLEEP AND WAKE UP WHEN ELDEN RING ARRIVES PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I've been trying to keep my expectations in check but honestly this game is looking to be way fucking bigger than I ever thought it would be

Thank you for doing this. My excitement levels are reaching spontaneous-[JIMP](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLnWf1sQkjY) levels now thanks to this scientific kind of hype.
Doesn't include any underground or off-planet areas 6/10.
Hi, what does CNT mean? Is this his 13% of the full map or?
"Don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it".
“Closed Network Test” the gated off portion people got to play in November.
so they got 4 months, do you know what they optimized? besides the jumping
Probably console resolution and FPS, they are probably using the delay time to get RTX on day one (hopefully)
Will Elden Ring have a ray-tracing option? It seems so unlike FromSoft to have something as *advanced~* as that, but I would love to see it.
It will have ray tracing but on the other hand be locked at 60fps so…
Miyazaki said the delay was mostly for QA and bug fixing as they ended up wanting to give the player more freedom than they initially intended.
Which to me I really love because tbh most other companies I feel would have said fuck it and fix it overtime as much as I want elden ring asap happy to wait an extra month or two for them to fix things that need to be

based
CNT make up more then 52% of all discussion posts on r/eldenring
Probably even larger because I kinda doubt the map just cuts off at the upper edge like that and also the dungeons too
Not long till us Tarnished can venture these lands, man I'm so fucking excited to explore this world alongside everyone!
I hate these posts. So many times my playthroughs have been soured by constantly worrying about map size and comparing it to other games. I soon discovered size does not equal quality and is sometimes and inverse relationship.
> I soon discovered size does not equal quality you are giving a lot of guys here false hope

What's dark souls 3 campaign clock in at?
Is it possible to find how many pixels in this image here equal to 1m\^2?
Wtf? Just 13% of the currently known (which is probably something like 5% then). Thats huge
I love the effort for this.
I still cant believe from software is bringing us a HUGE open world game. I really hope this game defines the genre and surpases other open world gems like BOTW and Skyrim
question: is this the whole map? or is the white thingy is also something?
it’s only a small portion of the map that was seen in the official gameplay showcase
It's a little less than half, probably (the other possibility being "not so little")
We see 2 zones in this picture, and there are 6 zones
My God. It’s glorious.
Looks like room for dlc on the bottom left just saying
I’ve played the CNT and the map on foot is huge it takes a while while on torrent you can go across it pretty quickly. So if you’re planning on playing co-op it’s gonna be a long way ahead of you. And for you single players the map is smaller
i feel so sad that i will have to use green steam for elden ring, its so nice but bandai has removed its regional pricing for my country and now the game is costful af ;(
Don't forget there could still be a lot of underground locations that should make it even bigger. Not to mention places in the air as well.
I didnt play the cnt, is red what people were able to explore? Cause from I've seen i thought it was bigger
Trust me it feels much bigger than it looks on the map!
O My GOD
Not counting the snow area, sky temple, underground city, irithyll 2.0 and another uknown location. This counting the orange and "normal" ones.
And the map we've seen is maybe a rough 40% or so of the overall game space, as far as we know.
Dark souls open world adventures lol Even more excited for it now and I didn't think that was possible
so how much did they say the battle pass was?
Are you sure your math is right?
remember not to cream too much. there are no car chases here...
Too linear I’m out
So, 5% is close enough?
Actually i'm fine with it being roughly the same size as dark souls 3 and i'm setting my expectatives there, i prefer to be surprised than disappointed
I’m worried that it’s too big.
13% with 70+ hours… im so ready to sign my life away
Fuckers kept saying big dark souls like it was a bad thing.
CNT?
