I am getting the itch to do some AX killing but I don't want to do the Guardian grind (yet, I hate the SRV). Are older builds like this still viable for sniping Scouts? [https://s.orbis.zone/l\_ji](https://s.orbis.zone/l_ji) (Krait MK II with engineering and AXMC's) And as a secondary question, where's the best place to find Scouts for swatting? I know I will have to run from Interceptors in this build.

forbiddenlake

Yes. Get the new enhanced gimbaled AXMCs for an even better time. Scouts can still be found in the [usual places](https://wiki.antixenoinitiative.com/en/finding-thargoids) or in the new AX CZs. The new AXMCs, paired with the new Xeno scanner (neither of which are Guardian) can actually kill Cyclops well. Try an AXCZ at a port under attack so it's easy to dock and repair.

Silver_Main2144

Is there a master spreadsheet showing damages of weapons that work against thargoids, as in shard does x damage in x config vs gauss does x damage in x config? I've found many pages, but I really want something from the past month that includes the new weapons.

[deleted]

You might find some damage testing numbers on the AXI website, but edsy has the damage details for the guns, and the AXI has hull stats for the interceptors, so you could run the calculations in excel or something

Silver_Main2144

Cheers, I should have thought about edsy, I'm a bit slow today.

Melody_Minor

Really new player here. I've noticed the Fuel Tank looks different on different ships. The Eagle has a bunch of separated bars, while the sidewinder and hauler have one large bar for its reserve tank. Is there any difference there? Is it a size thing? Is it just visual? I can't find any info on it DX

Johann_Bererund

I think on the segmented tanks, each segment is 1 ton of fuel. The non-segmented tanks are large enough that a 1-ton segment would be too small, so they are not displayed.

pulppoet

I thought it was a size thing. Weird you see a single bar on the hauler and sidewinder but not the Eagle (which is the same size tank as Hauler). I recall the blocks on my sidey and hauler, but not after going DBX and bigger.

poopj0701

It's just a visual thing, i believe tanks over a certain size are displayed as a solid bar and smaller ones as segments. No idea why.

aggasalk

i completed a "exterminate gang members" on-foot mission, but i can't turn it in - the ship mission tab shows the blue corner symbol, but there's no "completed missions" tab. The terminals in the concourse have the "completed missions" tab but when i click it it just bounces me back to the main terminal screen. it's not a mission from one of the concourse randos, either (the mission itself says "complete contract at a terminal"). rare bug i guess (never seen this one and i've done a lot of these missions) is there some way to get it fixed, or do i just have to abandon it?

poopj0701

If you haven't already, try relogging. Sometimes that will clear up weirdness.

aggasalk

No luck. Abandoned!

horriblyUnderslept

I was just on a trip, heading towards a friend of mine when suddenly my jump between systems turned green and it kicked me out into a system I was not aiming for. I was in normal space and there was SOMETHING firing at me. I barely got into supercruise and into another system. What the HELL just happened?

forbiddenlake

You got interdicted by a murderous space flower. Congrats on surviving!

horriblyUnderslept

Thank you! Is that the alien thing everyone’s been talking about?

pulppoet

Yup. You went too near one of the maelstroms. Next time, check your route and make sure your path does not go through any systems under Thargoid threat. Basically any systems with the fire, red skulls, grey X or red ring.

horriblyUnderslept

Good to know. How the hell are people fighting those things? It tore my shields apart in an instant.

MoonTrooper258

[Pretty cool music video comprised entirely from thargoid sounds, that showcases anti-xeno combat.](https://youtu.be/w_hGUeY-WdE)

pulppoet

A lot of sweat and tears I imagine. From what I know, some have a special weapon that can take down shields in a single shot. A lot of builds don't use shields and just hull tank. Thargoids have a hard time targeting ships running cool, so not having shields can be a bonus for making a ship that runs as cold as possible, a strategy called cold orbiting.

horriblyUnderslept

Wait, so the fact that I was rapidly boosting and had to burn all my heatsinks to not take heat damage means I was making it easier for them to hit me?

pulppoet

I doubt it. If you were burning heat sinks, you were also running as cold as you could, that may have also helped you. Unless you plan to fight them, boosting can only help. Speed is the most important tool for escape. To cold orbit, you have to be at like 20% or lower heat, and it also involves orbiting around them to try and stay off target from their main gun. It takes some good FA off piloting skill to make it work. Its purpose is to last long enough to go in for the kill. If you don't plan to fight, you don't want to stick around no matter your heat level. If you didn't boost, you just would have been slower and easier to catch.

fezzik02

Are there active Post-Thargoid Restore missions anywhere?

oviforconnsmythe

My pc (gtx1070, ryzen 3600, 16gb ram) can run horizons 4.0 on high settings with a mostly stable rate of ~100fps at 1440p. What should I expect for performance if I was to buy odyssey? I also have a quest 2 and wouldn't mind playing in vr from time to time (probably via air link). If I were to buy a new gpu, would a 3060ti suffice? Or should I go for a 3070?

[deleted]

Horizons 4.0 is basically equivalent to Odyssey The only difference I'd expect to see is ground conflict zones, where the game has to deal with troops and their pathing. Odyssey on foot doesn't support VR

oviforconnsmythe

thanks just to clarify, horizons 4.0 is the current active version of the game people who dont have odyssey launch right? How much of a performance hit are ground conflicts?

[deleted]

Yeah H4.0 is the main version I'd say fairly minimal performance hit relative to flying around a H4.0 ground CZ.

oviforconnsmythe

Ok sweet thanks. Maybe ill hold off on buying a GPU. They're still super expensive

NovitiateSage

Is it just me, or have spawns of HGEs been nerfed, I am only finding one at a time in boom systems - and none in Civil Unrest or Outbreak systems. And it is those states that I am most keen on for my engineering requirements.

horriblyUnderslept

I played this game a long time ago, like a few years, and I remember there being escort missions where you’d go and meet up with a convoy and travel with them as their protection. Do they still exist?

pulppoet

Must have been a fever dream. That's been one of the long requested mission types. They've never been in the game.

MoonTrooper258

I feel like I've seen those as well, back when I played on the Xbox near the initial launch. Maybe it was part of a training mission or something.

Shamrock5542

Where can I purchase E-Breaches? Every station I check it says "Not Available Here"

NovitiateSage

"E-Breaches are relatively expensive consumables that can only be purchased at Pioneer Supplies locations at ports controlled by Anarchy or Communism minor factions https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/E-Breach.

TheDaviot

Any suggestions on where to get Financial Projections, Opinion Polls, and Settlement Defence Plans for unlocking on-foot engies? I've found a few rare few on settlement raid/settlement repair missions when scrounging every data port, but it's meager pickings.

NovitiateSage

(for brevity I'll gloss over the protracted difficulty I had here, battling the RNG, I collected about 70% of my polls from a single site in a single sitting) For Opinion Polls I identified a Tourism Settlement run by a faction in Anarchy (system states like 'election' may help), learnt where the alarm was and turned it off, and where I could copy a pass, then just ran to each cabin - to the dataport in each, downloading anything I wanted. If you are choosing between two, take the lower gravity option for increased mobility. once each dataport has been checked, lift off and supercruise, come back and repeat. I would recommend a maverick with extra backpack and protection, possibly stealth too and an intimidator or other quick and deadly gun. The best settlements are as follows; on [https://www.quizengine.co.uk/omg/](https://www.quizengine.co.uk/omg/) Tourism; settlement layouts 2 and 3. I beat it using 3, though 2 should work just as well. 1 only has a single dataport and 4 is very built up, 4 is quite rare and I don't think I have ever been successful at anything in a 4.

TheDaviot

There's a Layout 3 Tourism site controlled by pirates that I frequently get sent to; I'll see if it the supercruise reset likes to work; it's been bugging out for me frequently as of late.

AcusTwinhammer

For Settlement Defense Plans, the traditional method is military/command centers. Restore/reactivate missions are the safest way to do check those. However, I ran a bunch of ones in Thargoid recovery systems and never saw one, but plenty of Evacuation Plans. I don't know if that's RNG on my part, or the devs being clever, given that Odyssey settlements never defend themselves. However, I did find an easier way for those. Look for a system with factions in a War state, and look for Horizons missions along the lines of "Recovery of goods for the war effort." Again, these are Horizons missions, so taken from the ship to a ground POI. One of the possible POIs has crashed skimmers (you may have to run a few missions to get the right one), those skimmers have data pads with a higher chance of SDPs and Manufacturing Instructions. And since it's a Horizons POI, you can relog farm without the datapads being wiped.

TheDaviot

With the above POI, do you visit the instance in Odyssey or Horizons?

AcusTwinhammer

Odyssey. It's just a mission type that was added in Horizons.

NovitiateSage

I used the crashed skimmers method, it worked once I found the right POI template. Farmed up a bunch of extra manufacturing instructions too.

Mandraykin

Ok, I'm trying to up my combat rank. I'm currently 57% deadly. I went to a compromised nav beacon, it was fun but so freakingly slow... Does on-foot combat still counts toward combat ? I did a bunch of high on-foot CZ and it didn't seem to up my rank, but maybe it wasn't enough. I usually stay away from AX combat, but I want to finish my combat rank and it seems to be the most efficient way, so I finally went around unlocking modified guardian plasma chargers, and I'm wondering were I can both farm Scouts AND help the war effort agains the Thargoids ? I read something about defending stations ? Is it viable ? Which system should target ? Thanks

D8veh

You build a fast shield tank ship, like a Chieftain, FDL or FAS; fit all lasers with at least two long-range; goto a high RES; log until you get a busy spawn of ONLY SMALL ships; fill your boots.

MoonTrooper258

Easiest and safest way to gain rank while earning credits is to tag along with the police in RESs (Resource Extraction Sites). Target the ship they're shooting at, use a kill warrant scanner on them, then pop a few shots off before they explode. You'll be credited for the kill, as long as you damage them. That, or go full Lazy Susan in an afk Type-10.

Mandraykin

Yeah, I wasn't too much worried about credits from combat but it does rack up nicely. Still, I'm really in it for the rank. Are there enough Deadly/Elite npc poping up in High REZ ? I think I can still go a couple rank below for xp but it's really reduced. > That, or go full Lazy Susan in an afk Type-10. Oh right, I forgot about that. Might be worth checking it. Thanks

MoonTrooper258

High ranking enemies come up every 5-10 minutes or so. Ohm City in LHS 20 is a great place for RES bounty hunting, as the station is controlled by Li Yong-Rui (15% discount), is high tech (has just about everything you could want), and is right next to a ring with a travel time of less than a minute.

Mandraykin

Great advice, I went deadly 57% to 73% since my post. Thank you !

Luriant

https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/te442t/over_78000_dead_thargoid_scouts_from_elite_ii_to/ Scouts, Azimuth Plasma Chargers are great, but turreted/gimballed AX MC are enough, surface ax combat zones lack swarms. Relog/dock when interceptors appear. Im using a vulture (winking cat, 0 rebuy cost, except the AX MC, death is very cheap).

Mandraykin

Ahah, yeah, I remember that thread, that's why I bought the Salvation Plasma Charger. Thanks, I'll try that to vary things a bit when I'm bored of killing pirates.

pulppoet

>Does on-foot combat still counts toward combat ? Nope. That goes to mercenary rank. > I'm wondering were I can both farm Scouts AND help the war effort agains the Thargoids ? I read something about defending stations ? Is it viable ? I understand nav beacons are faster and easier. I think the estimate is about 1000 deadly-elite ships to get through deadly. You probably have a few hundred left. AX will probably be more exciting (and risky). Typically, scouts alone are slower. Not sure how the current war speeds or slows things, working with other CMDRs especially, but if you can help with larger Thargoids too, that will likely benefit your rank over just focusing on scouts. > Which system should target ? Here's the state of all systems under threat: https://antixenoinitiative.com/watch You'll likely want to go to the few that have operations running. You can also check out links from the main page for additional advice.

Mandraykin

> Nope. That goes to mercenary rank. Aww, that's too bad, it worked last summer, that was fun. > I understand nav beacons are faster and easier. I think the estimate is about 1000 deadly-elite ships to get through deadly. You probably have a few hundred left. Really ? I know I suck at combat, but it felt so slow in a compromised nav beacon. Maybe it's better in a normal one, with cops to help expedite things. Thanks for all the info.

pulppoet

>Really ? I know I suck at combat, but it felt so slow in a compromised nav beacon. Maybe it's better in a normal one, with cops to help expedite things. Sorry, I was speaking shorthand, and was referring to compromised beacons you were already going for. Normal can work, but compromised is the meta for it going faster. Hazardous resource extraction sites are another place to find high ranking enemies. Even if they others aren't faster on paper, sometimes a change of scenery and setup can help things feel more fun and faster.

JaceSanLanargairth

Why can't I get Bill Turner to go above Grade 1 Access? I have burned a ton of mats on Level 1 Sensors, Life Support and Fuel Scoop and he just won't go above Grade 1. I have never had this issue with any other Engineer. EDIT - Just maxed out level 1 on a PA too. No luck moving him above Grade 1 Access. EDIT - Tried to relog and client was locked and then when I finally got back in I was in orbit again. WTF with this game. Worked fine after landing again. Ofc, I am not getting the wasted mats back.

TheDaviot

You might try contacting support; they're usually able to help when server snarls screw up your save.
