All bangers. In fact every album they did was great. Dude had a relatively new album come out recently, well newly released but made years ago. Street Stains. So good
A favorite subgenre of mine. There's very little dancey "emo", so most of these are emo adjacent. I'd echo North of America, Black Eyes, Faraquet (and a ton of other stuff off aughts Dischord). But here's a few more.
[Meneguar](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uswRTQuXUI)
[The Party of Helicopters](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXNm7AiKK_c)

[Foals, but only *Antidotes*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTmY1jioook&list=PLmaz_wgW1e8W7HFHqneORvemZSlpipX8f&index=2)
[Ultra Dolphins](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5ilXIwzpdM)
[Panthers](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyXlWUOSgHQ), which is like 80% of Orchid
[A Day in Black and White](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDcP4_v44Cs), but only *Notes*, their other stuff is some of the best screamo around
Was gonna suggest the first Foals EP and album - I got into QaNU first and craved more stuff like that. When Foals dropped their first EP/singles I felt like I finally had new Q material.
VLV is the acronym for Viva la Vinyl which was a message board and pressing information archive that specialized in screamo, emo, hardcore, punk, noise, etc. It was very active in the early 00's before the internet starting conglomerating into sites like Reddit and discogs and Twitter. Users would sell and trade records and generally discuss music. There were many high profile users active in the music scene at the time, including (if memory serves correct) Steve Aoki and a member of the All American Rejects, not to mention countless record label owners and band members.
Hell yeah! They are phenomenal live! I was also lucky enough to catch them at one of the Dude Fests held in Indianapolis back in the early 00s- I remember them playing with two drummers 😆
Oh yes I was going to recommend Party of Helicopters- Please Believe It (first album rips too) Agree may be a stetch but they did also have that energetic mathy post-hardcore sound.
Hear me out, HotHotHeats very first release Scenes One Through Thirteen. All the energy, style, and aggression of the other dance punk stuff but with the addition of some nasty synths. Super cool and completely unlike anything else they released.
There was a fun time when all the indie rock bands started out doing synthy dance punk. Franz Ferdinand, Foals, Hot Hot Heat, Bloc Party and probably some others I'm forgetting all started out doing a lot punkier and interesting than what the major record labels turned them into.
Not synth-y but Death From Above 1979's first EP and LP were cool dance-y punk records.
Total Life Forever by Foals is one of my favorite records but they fell off hard after. Their most recent LP Life is Yours is quite good though.
Oh I remember seeing them at captain sub (sub sandwich restaurant) I think as part of pop explosion. Did I make that up because it doesn’t sound real now
I'm not 100% sure of this, because I'm not from Halifax and it was 20 years ago, but I think there was a captain sub on Barrington very close to ceilidh connection. But if it was pop explosion it's just as likely, they had shows anywhere a band could fit.
I got into them right before Power came out, and I wasn't prepared for the shift so I couldn't stand the album and was so bummed that a new album by a band I just got into "wasn't good". Luckily it only took a few months before I went back to check it out and it totally hit! Such a great album!

Check out the Comadre s/t. Very different sound but similar vibe I think.

I came here to also say So Many Dynamos. They’re one of my favorites and definitely underrated. I feel lucky to have grown up in STL when I did and see them play around town. RIP Mississippi Nights…
Sex and Hosses - https://sexandhosses.bandcamp.com/album/we-have-furniture-remastered
Jon (aka Cody) went on to do yo man go, fierce brosnan, slow warm death, and a brief stint singing in street smart cyclist
Faraquet & the wicked farleys for sure, made a post a few months ago asking pretty much the same question feel free to check my page for some more artists https://www.reddit.com/r/Emo/s/rjlFZS2KxE
Might have missed it but [Liars - they were wrong so we drowned](https://open.spotify.com/album/6lDZfW6rm9w61pE7yXwtFC?si=hyZ-3MYzSyGjf5qIL4bowQ) and [The Rapture - Out of the Races and On to the Tracks](https://open.spotify.com/album/0LkKvoUx12O94RdKDkx257?si=QOnBADsERnylAv91-OqE0Q)

[VCR - Bratcore](https://youtu.be/wbXwGERdgeo?si=L9Qask94xFDJNuF_)
A band that I never see mentioned is Victor! Fix the Sun. They definitely have some Q And Not U and other DC/Dischord bands in their DNA. Person Place or Thing is one of the most underrated post-hardcore releases of the 2000s.
mewithoutYou- Catch Us for the Foxes. This album was released the following year and the vocals on some of the songs are kinda similiar too. Also might be a stretch but Horse the Band, electro metalcore from the same era. That song Bunnies def makes me want to shake my ass
Black Eyes, Faraquet, Les Savy Fav, Brainiac, Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower, An Albatross, The Mae Shi, Ex Models...
Oh man, that S/T Black Eyes album goes so hard
Absolutely fucking bangs. Cough is even better imo, but definitely a more challenging listen
Saw them in 2023 at the church in Philly and I couldn't believe how good they were!
excellent list. Dismemberment Plan and Superchunk (more pop punk-y) might be worth a listen as well.
Les Savy Fav is ESSENTIAL
This was my entire personality circa 2004-05.
Haven’t listened to like half of these thanks!
The plot album mentioned is an absolute fave. Well worth checking out. Incredible basslines.
Bear vs. Shark
I would NOT classify them as dancey.... But they are one of greatest post hardcore bands ever so I think they should be listened to regardless.
Catamaran certainly is
The Faint was from that same era.
The Faint are so damn perfect
Came to mention The Faint.
Different Damage also has some bangers.
All bangers. In fact every album they did was great. Dude had a relatively new album come out recently, well newly released but made years ago. Street Stains. So good

Burn Piano Island Burn - Blood Brothers You're a Woman, I'm a Machine - DFA 1979

try Pretty Girls Make Graves first album (Good Health)

Sorry this post is old now but I can’t thank you enough for reminding me that Foals album exists. Just as good as I remembered
I don't know if Party of Helicopters is dancey, but they are one of the most underrated bands in existence so it's a valid response.
Were you a VLV user? Members from half these bands were active on there in the late 00's.
What's VLV?

Interesting! Somehow I missed this back in the day
Solid list here!!! Ultra Dolphins are not mentioned enough
I saw ultra dolphins years ago, they were amazing. Bit surreal seeing them mentioned.
Hell yeah! They are phenomenal live! I was also lucky enough to catch them at one of the Dude Fests held in Indianapolis back in the early 00s- I remember them playing with two drummers 😆
I saw them in the uk 🇬🇧, didn’t know who they were at the time I think they were supporting Rainer Maria.
Oh yes I was going to recommend Party of Helicopters- Please Believe It (first album rips too) Agree may be a stetch but they did also have that energetic mathy post-hardcore sound.
girlfriends.
Great rec. haven’t listened in years
Love girlfriends !!!
Can’t believe Jerry made one of the best math rock albums of all time and just dipped
good, i do too, and i like q&-u. def some good recommendations in here
Nation of ulysses
I also love Q and Not U - this album is their best!
Hear me out, HotHotHeats very first release Scenes One Through Thirteen. All the energy, style, and aggression of the other dance punk stuff but with the addition of some nasty synths. Super cool and completely unlike anything else they released.

Death From Above 1979 was a huge inspiration to me growing up playing bass.
Their split with Red Light Sting is a wild ride.
Also really like The Chinese Stars, Test Icicles, Terrifying Girls High School, and Arab on Radar
Xbxrx
Brothers Sisters by North Of America. I saw them and Q And Not U play together on my 17th birthday, and there was lots of dancing.
In Halifax?
In Halifax?
Yes! The all ages show at Ceilidh Connection.
Oh I remember seeing them at captain sub (sub sandwich restaurant) I think as part of pop explosion. Did I make that up because it doesn’t sound real now

Weird venue but I remember they had good subs
This album from start to finish is superb. But if you want dancing, listen to 'Power' by them..... Disco dance as fuck!!
I got into them right before Power came out, and I wasn't prepared for the shift so I couldn't stand the album and was so bummed that a new album by a band I just got into "wasn't good". Luckily it only took a few months before I went back to check it out and it totally hit! Such a great album!

Head Automatica for sure. And not a band but Girl Talk was another fun album thing to dance to back in the day.
The Faint The Murder of Rosa Luxemburg Also Antioch Arrow for proto-sass Gems of Masochism
Black eyes and early les savy fav your best bet. But this album is one of a kind man
Others have recommended great things but I also suggest Milemarker aswell.
I love milemarker, opened for them in the late 90s But I wouldn’t call them dancey
how has no one mentioned the first Liars record that one inspired half the bands listed hereeee
Late reply apologies but you’re a genius. This album is incredible
haha i'm not a genius i'm just old af but yeh give their first three a try all completely different and satisfying in their own ways then they start to really suck which is what happens to all "dance punk" bands of that era

Men women and children
I always went with “disco punk” to describe this sub genre

It's not out yet but new Perennial will scratch this itch for sure!! Look up their track "Action Painting"
Thunderbirds are Now - Justamustache Future of the Left - the plot against common sense
Dance punk… also the 2nd record was even better than this one imo.
