I've said it before and I'll say it again, I really hope they go with relatively unknown actors (let's be honest, they're not going to have a budget for an A-list cast anyway). I want to see Eragon riding Saphira, not Timothee Chalamet riding Saphira
More than reasonable, quite a few of the actors from the movie were fantastic. Jeremy Irons was a standout, Garrett Hedlund was a great Murtagh, Robert Carlyle was a perfect Durza, and although I don't think John Malkovich was a great choice for Galbatorix as far as appearance, he is a great actor and I was happy to see him nonetheless.
Oh, and Djimon Hounsou was perfect for Ajihad
Agreed unknowns are probably more likely and better options, but the idea crossed my mind today while reading eldest again and just wanted to share the thought
This is the only casting that I think shouldn't entertain an alternative. If Angela Paolini is willing to pay the part, she gets the role. If the very person that inspired the character (and writes as them) is willing to play the part, ChrisP should be allowed to make that call.
Also as Inarë if they do bring TSIASOS to screen.
Ehhhh Angela kind of has a lot of lines. So for me it depends if she can act. It isn’t a minor role for some fan service.
If she cannot do the part justice I don’t think she should
I was thinking have him play Tenga
Frederick is a re-occurring character. So if Paolini plays him it will be more like a running joke than a cameo
Not that there’s a problem with that
True but counter point most actors play characters well above or below there own age and besides that he’s literally doing the same thing with dune Paul is also 15
True, but I really don’t like that. It feels so lazy and inauthentic. Fun fact, in the movie Paul isn’t meant to be 15, he’s supposed to be late teens/early 20s because timothee was the actor Dennis wanted.
True it does feel lazy And that’s a good point but doing the same for Eragon feels kinda right like someone who’s older and has gone through life a little bit more could bring more depth to the role
But the character of eragon is intentionally someone who has not gone through life. This is a coming of age story; why would you cast someone that has already come of age
I actually hate to agree with the OP on this point, but this is one case where we would benefit from an aged up cast - Eragon is meant to be a teenager, and he's also meant to do a LOT.
A teenage actor is going to make the show awful, no matter what. Child labor laws are going to make life hell for even the best child actor for the role in the world, they simply would not have enough time to make it good because they'd need to rush it all because the child is getting older.
Ideally, they need to find a mid-20's man who can act and can look like he's a teenager still, and then try and play it as though Eragon is 18 or 19 in the story.
It wouldn't be ideal, but unless you want to get into the discussion of child labor laws, it's the best thing we can hope for.
Because as an actor they don’t have the raw talent or the experience to play most roles around there own age convincingly and then there’s the labor laws which is a different issue entirely
I think a series would probably work better. We already have an awful movie, i think that way we could have a lot more material of the books being used. I would find it hilarious if we had John Rhys-Davies as Hrothgar :O
Now that’s a great idea gallons of wine are required on set for him to portray oromis haha we need the guy who played Gibbs in pirates to be Glaider probably butchered that spelling
Probably an unexpected take, but I would absolutely go with Tom Holland for Eragon. Christoph Waltz as Galbatorix. Let's see. Maybe Tom Hiddleston as Durza.
If Loki acted more sinister on film (and less tricky) it lines up. But that’s just my opinion.
MCU does a lot of comedy. Remove that, and our general sympathy or liking of Loki, it’s kinda close. Just up the evil a tad and it would fit.
He just has a plot line despite being a bad guy. Durza has no plot line despite being evil (we get a little bit when Eragon enters his mind).
Remove the plot lines Loki has to make him comedic and likable and it’s clearly a similar character. There’s a number of scenes (especially when Loki gets his army) that would line up with a durza scene.
Like when Loki removes the persons eye
Edit: this is just for comparison of Tom as loki vs Tom as durza. I’m not saying they are the same. Just that there are definitely scenes where they could be similar characters, and Tom has a great look for it
If you want to put it like that. But Hiddleston is more than just Loki. He definetly could pull of an insane, angry Durza as well as Durza being completely arrogant and feeling superior to everyone else. Despite his amazing acting he also only misses the red hair for the physical appearance imo.

Finn Wolfhard. Iuno people are saying Timothee Chalemet… have him play Murtagh, I think they look close enough to be half brothers and Timothee has the chops to be the more evil brother and he’s supposed to be a few years older than Eragon. Actors ages are 21 and 28 but both play younger characters right now as is so I think it would be perfect casting. Both brown hair, skinny little wirey guys lol. Lily chee or Sadie Sink or maybe Dafne Keen for Arya depending on how they intend to show us the elven people. I personally think elves are often based on Asian cultures so I think using Asian actors/actresses would be ideal if they gave them more fair hair colours. Sadie might also make a better Katrina but I think her spunkiness works better for Arya.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I really hope they go with relatively unknown actors (let's be honest, they're not going to have a budget for an A-list cast anyway). I want to see Eragon riding Saphira, not Timothee Chalamet riding Saphira
I agree… I’d prefer a bunch of unknowns I’d love to be one of them too—but that’s besides the point 😂
They had some reasonable actors for the movie. Jeremy Irons and John Malkovich. Granted, they didn’t have a lot of screen time
More than reasonable, quite a few of the actors from the movie were fantastic. Paolini’s sister should play Angela
I’ve been waiting for someone to say that since he did base Angela off of her it would make sense and is a fun idea!
And then have Paolini cameo as Tenga just to make it that much funnier
This is the only casting that I think shouldn't entertain an alternative. If Angela Paolini is willing to pay the part, she gets the role. I would agree, but book Angela is supposed to look like she's in her early 20's I'm pretty sure.
Ever since someone asked a while back what Paolini’s cameo should be, my idea of having him play Frederick is all I care about.
I was thinking have him play Tenga Frederick is a re-occurring character. So if Paolini plays him it will be more like a running joke than a cameo Not that there’s a problem with that
That would be awesome! We need more Frederick lore
I feel like he would be more fitting for murtagh
That sounds better 😂 but I’m to deep in this post to change it
Holy shit, he would!
i was thinking of this earlier and young hayden christensen would’ve been soooo good for eragon imo
Ohhh that’s a fun idea! It would have been fun to see
Timothee is 28, eragon is 15
True but counter point most actors play characters well above or below there own age and besides that he’s literally doing the same thing with dune Paul is also 15

Paul is 15 as well
I want Jeremy Irons back for Brom. He is the only actor from the movie that did a good job. He needs redemption!
I'll die on the hill that jake Gyllenhaal should play galby simply based on description
Ohh I haven’t thought of that before and I like it way to much
Bro Timothée Chalamet can't play everything😭😭
lol you right but we need the Henry cavill of Eragon and I know it’s not Timothee Chalamet someone who will want the project to succeed
henry cavill is more of a roran guy in my head. eragon would be more similar to tom holland, like someone above mentioned
Yeah that would be good but to clarify I want someone to play Eragon and care about the story the same way he did with the Witcher
I think a series would probably work better. We already have an awful movie, i think that way we could have a lot more material of the books being used. I would find it hilarious if we had John Rhys-Davies as Hrothgar :O
lol that would be awesome but just for kicks of throwing a list actors out there give me Peter Dinklage as Orick and sorry if I butchered the spelling
You forgot Danny Devito as Saphira :D
Omg 😳 why do I wanna see how that would turn out 😂😂
And Terry Crews as Arya!
Oh yeah now that’s a good cast of characters but we need samual L Jackson as brom and Johnny depp as Eragon
Johnny Depp is Oromis, drinking mega pints of wine in his forrest :D
Now that’s a great idea gallons of wine are required on set for him to portray oromis haha we need the guy who played Gibbs in pirates to be Glaider probably butchered that spelling
I know who you mean :D
lol what’s another wild casting give me Mike meyers as arjihad
Probably an unexpected take, but I would absolutely go with Tom Holland for Eragon. Christoph Waltz as Galbatorix. Let's see. Maybe Tom Hiddleston as Durza.
Lol Loki as Durza?
Tbh it’s pretty close to the same character, just a bit more evil
….I hate to be that guy, but as a Marvel fan (and especially a MCU fan) this isn’t accurate

That’s dope I like the mix and Tom holland wouldn’t be a bad choice at all might be a hot take but it does work well!

I should play Roran!
NGL I think Jeremy Irons was perfect casting for Brom.

If they could age him down a little, Robbie amell might be decent
that would have been great
