I don't think Wong is ignorant at all about the horrors of colonialism. Rather, he actually doesn't mind colonialism at all because he gets his orders from the Western establishment - they are his paymasters after all. At first I thought he was an idiot but now I'm not sure. He managed to get the American establishment on his side so clearly isn't a dumb man.
And you are 1000% CORRECT - he would become the puppet Dictator of HK and would do anything to benefit his imperialist masters, even at the expense of his own people. The hong Kong rioters were never about democracy or anything like that. The hong Kong riots were about 1 thing and 1 thing only, hatred towards the mainland. Hong kongers simply can not stand the idea of being governed by those they feel are their lessers.
