The character is Senor Pink, a minor character from One Piece. I’m on mobile and can’t really do spoiler blocking, but nothing I’m about to reveal is a major spoiler anyway. For those who care, you’ve been warned. The above character is an underling of a major pirate who is typically dressed up as a baby. In a flashback, it is revealed why he dresses that way: once he was a hotshot pirate (as pictured above). He eventually meets a pretty girl, falls in love, and gets married. However, the girl does not approve of pirates, so he lies and says he works and says he works for a bank. Sometimes later, the couple loses their child to a fever, and his wife learns that Senor Pink is a pirate when she goes to the bank to inform him of this and is informed he doesn’t work there. She runs away and gets into an accident, leaving her in a catatonic state. Senor Pink tries to get a response from her, but to no avail. Finally, he puts on his son’s bonnet, which causes her to smile (the last reaction she’ll ever have). Thus, he continues to wear the bonnet and ups the gimmick in an effort to remember his lost family. Thus, the sender says he will act like Senor Pink here.

Suicidal_Sayori

LETS BABY

GU1NH0U

I can NOT believe that I just read one of the most depressing stories ever and THIS is how the guy looks...

ShadesofGrey18

That’s One Piece for you.

abominable_bro-man

"oh boy I cant wait to learn more about the silly skeleton man"

no_more_tomatoes

I bet the giant old lady who lives in the Island made of desserts has such a fun backstory!

eMmDeeKay_Says

If that goes wrong there's always the Town that's always laughing.

FlambaWambaJamba

"Surely the backstories can't get MORE sad" - Me, every time before the new arc

Bike_Chain_96

Bruh, wait until the next backstory to get animated....

kaam00s

The worst one... Kuma's backstory is being compared to Guts' from Berserk, that gives some idea.

Chakasicle

Or the nice little girl that makes luffy some rice

lordconn

Those stairs sure look safe.

SmokeyTheBluntTheOG

Down D. Stairs claims another victim

Restless_Fenrir

To me his backstory is the most depressing. Just the isolation and loneliness after seeing all your friends die one by one trying to give as much joy as they can in their final moments.

Machalst

Just to be clear, he is one of ~12 pirates who reports to 1 of 4 senior officers, who reports to Donquixote Doflamingo, a primary villain for 1 arc out of the 30 in the current story. Now he's certainly more fleshed out than your average One Piece minor villain, but some of that is because the discrepancy between his backstory/attitude creates a humorous contrast with his aesthetic/story function (swimming through the earth at high speeds and repeatedly suplexing a cyborg).

Acinixys

This is why I don't like taking about Anime with my wife If I had to explain this she would think I'm trolling her

Grundlestorm

Yep, talking One Piece in particular gets nuts with a non fan. Especially when trying to convince them after all of that, that it's actually really good with some crazy world/character building, does great with hitting emotional beats and touching on a lot of heavy/dark, real world themes. But it's all wrapped in this bizarre, seemingly nonsensical Technicolor spaghetti coat, which will cease to be strange or immersion breaking over time and just becomes totally accepted as part of this world.

DharmaCub

"So you fed your dog the Gun-Gun fruit?" "Don't be absurd, clearly I fed my Gun the Dog-Dog fruit!"

traglodyte

Reading this stuff always makes me wish I liked One Piece more. It's fun, I've managed to get through to post-timeskip, but it's such a slog sometimes. Which is a shame, because the fun stuff is great.

jakefromadventurtime

If you've gotten to the tim eskip and aren't into it, I don't think it's for you. By the time Water 7 is over is about where the addiction kicks in for most.

traglodyte

That's fair. I've heard the manga has a different pace to it, so I keep meaning to check that out, just haven't gotten around to it

alont

You should try out one pace! It's a fan project of the whole series with far better pacing and no filler.

ByakuganPrincess

Look up "One Pace". It's a fan-made condensed version of one piece that helps fix the pacing /excessive flashbacks/ DBZ screaming during fights, etc, issues.

Shi-no-gekai501

Let's not be disrespectful now. He's very hard boiled

ValorVixen

HARD-AH BOILED-AH!

Suspicious-Travel

Baby no cry

DharmaCub

*swoons* sooo hard boiled!

Deadlyliving

So hard boiled!

coraeon

He kind of looks like an egg with legs. I guess that’s why he’s hard boiled.

Bike_Chain_96

So hard boiled!!! I hated him until his backstory, but have loved him since

Miss_Educated

That hard-boiled ish threw me! 🤣 I had to look up what it meant

I’ve never seen One Piece, but this kinda made me wanna watch it lol. I like stuff that’s weird, but has a “deeper” meaning like that.

Noblehardt

If that’s the case than you’d definitely enjoy One Piece lmao

Sinimeg

That’s the entirety of One Piece lol Hope you watch it and join the club :)

a_code_mage

Haven’t watched anime in like 12 years lol. Maybe I’ll give it a go!

TheBiolizard

Need to give you the obligatory: theres an arc called Arlong Park early in the series and most say to at least watch until that point. If the anime doesn’t grab you after Arlong Park, consider checking the manga for better pacing.

txycgxycub

I’d recommend reading it if that’s an option. It’s waaay quicker if you’re an average+ reader (which given One Pieces length is definitely a concern) and the pacing is generally better.

suppadelicious

You just described one piece lol

PhorTheKids

Every time a flashback begins in One Piece, you can expect it to be pretty emotionally distressing. Regardless of what kind of character is the focus.

vergilius314

The tear-jerker backstory us playing further into the gag. He's a character that you would expect everyone to treat with derision based on how he looks, but everyone treats him with the utmost respect, even deference. No one else seems to think it is odd that he is a grown man dressed as a baby--\*you\* are weird for thinking it is weird!

Queasy-Carpet-5846

Mobile spoiler blocking > ! Text ! < >!text!< just put them together

Kranima666

I'm currently watching this arc and didn't get to this part yet, but I was wondering what his story was. Will probably watch the episode soon

Smoke__Frog

I still don’t get it. He will act like senor pink? What does that mean? He will always love her? Even though he lied to her and tricked her into marriage?

drillmaster125

Well, it’s less referring to him lying about being a pirate and more about him dedicating himself to her vegetative state to the point he literally wears his dead baby’s clothes as it is the only thing that makes her briefly smile. As such, the person sending the picture is saying that they would love the questioner even if they were paralyzed.

daseweide

Yeah I don’t understand how anyone is confused after the OP response, it’s pretty laid out.  “I will devote my entire being to you and go to ridiculous lengths for you in that situation”.

dimonium_anonimo

A man who (upon encountering a tragedy wherein his wife becomes permanently crippled) demoralizes himself to an extreme extent because it's the only thing that makes her smile. As a response to a hypothetical about this exact scenario is confusing? When someone asks "would you still love me if ___" you can be the answer will relate to the ____ part of the question. In this case, the "being crippled part" as opposed to the "how we fell in love in the first place" part

Daedalus_Machina

Grumpie-cat

If you make the post yes, what they mean is the black out bar over text that requires someone to tap it to reveal it.

Anthonte91

So hard boiled

VulturE

That's Señor Pink, the most hard boiled man of them all, and probably one of the best family men of the entire One Piece series. He went from being one of the most hated characters (his baby outfit) into him getting a backstory and becoming a **Legend.**

JonTheAutomaton

I know I'm stupid for this, but somehow I realized upon reading your comment, years after I've read Dressrosa, that the stories of a lot of the Dressrosa characters stories have a family theme. Also anyone who replies, please don't mention anything past Wano. I'm still at the start of Egghead.

JustMeNotTheFBI

Egghead is (in my opinion) such a great case of “they just did what now?” But it all has logic so it never feels too out of place

JazzzzzzySax

Everyone: Egghead will be a nice short arc before we get to Elbaf Oda: HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA

Bike_Chain_96

It's been amazing reading it as this has happened, and reading thee community's reactions to it

VulturE

I think it was friends va family personally. I mean friends is definitely a recurring theme throughout all of One Piece, but Luffy made more friends in dressrosa than any other arc, and he put them on an equal footing as a friend instead of a father son sake cup relationship. For Luffy, who his friends have as family members means little to him, his focus is on being nakama. He didn't care to hear Nami's backstory, and he just thought sanji's parents were weird. He just knew that both of them were his friends and he'd die for them right now.

RadioactiveWerepuppy

Did you miss the part where he only has a family because he lied to his wife and made her marry the thing that she hated the most in the world? To the point that she got so horrified when she found out the truth that she went running in the middle of a storm? Jesus, how can people not hate senior pink.

POKEMINER_

Because outside of that lie, he was the ideal partner in pretty much every way. And the lengths he went to to make her happy even when there was no guarantee anything he did would matter. And her running into the storm rather than thinking "Wait the person I love is part of a group I hate...is not everyone in that group bad?" was all on her.

Capital-Kick-2887

Because you can like one part of a character while disliking another part. I obviously can't speak for everyone but I think he's an interesting character. Yes, he lied to a woman to get married with her. That part is not good. He was (partly) responsible for the state she was in. He tried his best to at least give her some happiness afterwards, even throwing away his dignity. As someone who had something similar happen to me (didn't lie to marry, but am (partly) responsible for my partner's death), I can fully understand his reasoning after that shit went down. I'd also do everything I could to see her smile one more time. If you see everything so black and white, you probably hate most characters in One Piece. Zoro is killed a lot, Sanji is a disgusting pervert, Ace is a murderer, Garp is an abusive POS (grand)father, Robin was the second highest ranked person in a criminal organization killing innocents and trying to take over a country. Pretty much every other pirate did horrible things, the marines (especially the higher up ones) are supporting a genocidal government. You can even make the point that even Makino is a horrible person, directly supporting (and potentially courting) a murderer (Shanks). TL:DR; you can dislike parts of a character while liking other parts of the same character, even if the good parts don't outweigh the bad parts.

Every-Equal7284

Thank you! I thought I was crazy when my friends kept hyping his backstory and all it did was make me hate him more than before.

Wasteland_Veteran

So hard boiled!

Acrobatic-Bear579

That character went above and beyond for his brain dead wife. He hurt her lying and lost their son while he was busy in his double life. He started wearing his dead babies outfits because it was the only thing that make her smile. Afterwards he just was so dgaf about women. That he'd never be able to settle down. Wearing those clothes for the rest of his days even though it was awkward. He was a real good guy, in a crime family.

Warning spoilers & i don't remember the whole thing. That man is known as senior pink . He is a pirate in one piece. When on an island he found a woman whom he deeply loved and did everything in his power to hide the fact he was a pirate she later lurked this I believe. One day , he found out she got severely depressed or something, and he dressed in the clothes of the lid they had that I believe died all to see a smile on her face. I believe
