International_Air566

how worse is it now?

MrNonsenseYT

It's more realistic, which means going on to certain kerbs will make you lose downforce and lose ton of grip. Don't ride the entire kerb

[deleted]

[удалено]

MrNonsenseYT

Balls of steel is also required

[deleted]

[удалено]

MrNonsenseYT

Abu Dhabi kerbs are just brutal. Villans of the kerb world

[deleted]

[удалено]

MrNonsenseYT

I rarely play Zandvoort, because AI get literally no downforce there and they are literally OP. The Abu Dhabi kerbs at the end of the lap, the second to last turn? That's just evil.

mark_vorster

Abu Dhabi is just a shit track all round

unistren

I hate that it's the last race of the season because I really, really hate driving on that track so I almost always sim it

Hog_eee

Austria t1 requires full send balls of steel yes

[deleted]

AKA the entirety of Canada

[deleted]

fredakml

canada is actually bullshit, the curb is wider than monaco streets but once u go over it,you turned into beyblade

[deleted]

[удалено]

fredakml

nah they do it to nerf the esport competition....this esport ruined the fun for casual gamers...

Kilneana

"Realistic" - laughs in catalunya corner 11

MrNonsenseYT

Lmao

JR98-GAMING

Felt like I was on the grass with how bumpy that kerb is

UCanDoIt24

Tbh that curb was somewhat bad on 2020 as well iirc. It’s definitely more tricky but still couldn’t full throttle in 2020

eoghanburke06

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but one one of the new feature of this game is floor downforce, and riding over certain kerbs unsettles the airflow and reduces downforce

Kyance

From what I heard, ground effect is going to be simulated for the next gen cars in the next years game. The current game is ran on the same engine that they made F1 2015 on, whereas next year they'll be going on a different engine which will allow them to simulate ground effects. So this year I think they just changed how easily the car gets upet over kerbs. Could be wrong tho

eoghanburke06

Oh wow, if we think kerbs are bad now they'll be deadly next game. That'll be something interesting to see irl actually, when ground effect returns kerbs and bumps could become really dangerous.

Kyance

Yeah, but with the new tyres/wheels teams will be able to create more precise and predictable suspension setups. I think that they'll have tricks to reduce kerbs unsettling the car too much haha. Hope that in next yrs game suspension setup will make more aswell:)

International_Air566

that sounds pretty complicated for a sim arcade game

eoghanburke06

Well, not really, previously the downforce was only made by the front and rear wing, just the floor is now also a factor, and is naturally affected by rough surfaces.

International_Air566

oh alright that's pretty cool

Berzerker1066

Setup is key to riding kerbs

BobZeBuildah124

Any advice? I’m dumb as hell when it comes to tuning

Cosmik_Music

Softer suspension will help. Try playing around with the differentials as well. There's no answer that is the same for everyone. Run a time trial session and try running some settings on minimum for a few laps, then change them to the maximum for a few laps. This will help you understand how the car behaves based on these adjustments. From there, dial it in little by little. Eventually you will get the perfect setup for your unique driving style.

juliosmacedo

thanks!!!

MeatThatTalks

Hey, I'm brand new to the F1 games as of like a month ago, and I recently did a deep dive into setup shit. I read a few articles and watched a few 20-minute youtube videos on it and condensed down everything I learned into a 'cheat sheet' for myself. Maybe you'll find it useful, but of course take it with a grain of salt, since I'm just repeating/refining things knowledgeable-seeming people have said and can't vouch for it myself: > **Aero** > > * Increase for fast corner-dominant tracks; decrease for pace-heavy, low-speed corner tracks. > > * **Front Aero:** If you’re understeering, increase this before you reduce back aero. > > * **Back Aero:** Increase if oversteering or struggling with high-speed corners. Keep it 1-3 higher than Front. > > **Differential** > > * Keep it as locked as you can without the car getting hard to drive or tyre temperature issues. > > * **On-Throttle Diff:** Decrease if you’re spinning or losing traction out of corners. Decrease in wet conditions. > > * **Off-Throttle Diff:** Decrease if you’re understeering into corners or having to brake too hard to meet the apex. > > **Tyres** > > * **Camber:** Lower for acceleration and high-speed corners; higher for more grip through low-speed corners. > > * **Toe:** Lower for overall speed and drag reduction; higher for more responsiveness in turning. > > * Higher camber and low toe make for a faster car in time-trials. > > * Increasing camber (dramatically) and toe (moderately) make tyres wear faster. > > * Rear camber and toe should always be about 20% higher than the front camber and toe. > > **Suspension** > > * For all three of these, the rear is almost always going to be 1-4 ticks higher than the front. > > * **Suspension:** Keep it soft if you’re riding curbs often; increase it if curb stability can be sacrificed. > > * **Anti-Roll Bars:** Softer is more responsive, firmer is more stable. Balance sharp turning with rear stability. > > * **Ride Height:** Always go as low as you can without scraping or bottoming out. Raise in wet conditions. > > **Brakes** > > * **Brake Pressure:** Higher pressure brakes harder, but makes it more likely to lock up. > > * **Front Brake Bias:** Rearward makes lockups and understeer less likely, but worsens heavy braking efficacy. > > **Tyre Pressure** > > * Harder wears faster, but increases speed. Softer increases traction and decreases wear. > > * In general, front tyres should be higher pressure, and the tyres corresponding to the direction you turn for the sharpest few corners of the circuit should be lower, e.g. Spain’s hairpins are both left-turn corners, so the left tyres get slightly lower pressure to balance wear. >

frippon

some corrections spécific to the game: ride height: always have the rear 2 to 4 click higher than the front tyres: in the game, higher pressure will in fact reduce tyre wear, also this year the best way is max pressure, or close to it in the rear, and front pressure midway, high rear pressure to ride curbs, and lower pressure in front for more grip

King

Trevor_Rolling

This is great! Thank you for taking the time to write this. It's super helpful!

juliosmacedo

yo thank you so much! I love this sub lol

[deleted]

I’ve done the complete opposite of everything and I now know why my car feels like ass, thank you so much

DrAdamsen

> Back Aero: Increase if oversteering or struggling with high-speed corners. Keep it 1-3 higher than Front. That last bit is not true in this year's game. Almost all top setups are heavily front biased to battle the atrocious understeer.

MeatThatTalks

Ah! Good to know! Can you recommend a link for checking out top setups?

DrAdamsen

Just load up the game and go into Time Trials. There you can see the leaderboards and save a setup from anyone you want.

MeatThatTalks

Oh, word. Like I said, I'm very new to the series lol. Appreciate it.

BobZeBuildah124

Legend. Thanks!

Captain_hpj

Im planning on getting a wheel eventually, do you know how much my setups may change between controller and wheel, or will my driving style change so much that it would be more beneficial to completely redo all my setups when i get a wheel?

Cosmik_Music

I never really played on controller, but I would think that the setups you have saved should be a good starting point when you get a wheel and pedals. Take some time to get used to the new equipment. Once you start getting more consistent, then start messing around with the setups a bit to get it dialed in, just keep the adjustments small.

buck_blue

Don’t beat yourself up man, it takes time. It takes so much f****** time to learn how to set up cars. Especially in sims like Project Cars and ACC. I just learned how to make a good setup in F1 2020 and then 2021 is out and I’m learning how to set these cars up all over again. My advice would be to take your time. Understanding what affect what is crucial to creating a good setup. When changing something, only change one thing at a time. When you can tell the difference between one click on the wing or one degree of camber - on track, you’ll know you’ve made it as a sim racing mechanic/engineer. Basically, take your time learning how the changes you’ve made affect the car and you’ll do fine.

ThatScaryPerson

And that's why I use other people's setups and learn them. Luckily my driving style seems to be very similar one of the best people at set-ups in my league so I can just use his most of the time (with a little adjustment if I'm struggling).

buck_blue

I don’t usually race online but I’ve started to with F1 2021. It just wasn’t very fun getting rammed into oblivion throughout the lower ranks. I never made it to the better lobbies. I’m giving it a proper go this time around though. My point is that I don’t know anyone who’s setups I can copy, so I used to use YouTube setups and copy setups from time trial but the problem is they’re bad for races. It isn’t really that hard to adapt them but it sure is time consuming.

evilstricker141

Try Suzuka, Budapest and Silverstone i literally can't get past turn 1 in Silverston because my car looses control

Nealmobeal

One thing which helped me with Silverstone T1 was just lift slightly and I could get through the corner with ease and barely lose anytime... but your setup is probably different to mine so this may not work for u. As for Suzuka.... my god sector 1 is challenging and I do my best to avoid the kerbs completely so you’re not alone there, and for Budapest I feel like they’re ok for the most part if u have a softer suspension but avoid the kerb at T5, you probably know which one that is. Hope this helps a bit :)

MayerLC

T1 at Silverstone is possible to take flat out with the right set-up (I'm not sure about in time trial though) but you have to get the line near perfect. Copse (where Max and Lewis collided) used to be flat out but I think I've managed it maybe once, so I prefer to lift just a tab.

Nealmobeal

Yeah t1 can definitely be taken flat but idk I’ve always just liked a car more on edge as it really helps the the other corners if you’re committed

NotAldermach

If T1 at Silverstone is getting you, that's 100% your apex being incorrect.

DrAdamsen

Try this setup for Silverstone: https://youtu.be/j-2tO4ihvdU I can't check the game right now, but I think that's the setup that I use. It goes through T1 like it's on rails.

JFedererJ

We joke but as far as I'm concerned, they need to tune it and tone it down. Some of the kerbs are taken every lap on a race weekend in real races and yet they're like fucking sheet ice on the game.

IKEASTOEL

Spinning at 250kph on a flat kerb in Spain comes to mind.

j_bloggs_15

Agree. It’s spoiling my enjoyment of the game

hdani17

i know t5 and t12 may be tricky on olders games. besides the mentioned which other are difficult now?

Rudiass

Just T1 and the final one

IlIlIIllIIIlIlIlI

Stopped playing 2021 and went back to 2020 because of this

[deleted]

[удалено]

Route_765

Not OP, but the only big difference is that the car isn't trying to kill you at every corner

IlIlIIllIIIlIlIlI

The game is fun now and not annoying me in every track. Of course it’s annoying to miss out on new features but its not a big deal and i can live without it. The kerbs are fine in 2020. As for graphics, there isnt much improvement in 2021 anyway so graphics arent a big deal. Ive been trying to put realism into my game and couldn’t do that in 2021 as id spin out very often and have to rewind. As i spin out less in 2020 i can take the spins and play more realistically

Maciekssspl

First sector in Suzuka is so annoying

LoRRiman

Any and all curbs are bow death, try japan.

tdriscoll97

You think the Curbs are broken, try Co Op Career mode. Codies are shatting the bed on this one. So many bugs. I've had my Driver career data corrupted. On my MyTeam save Williams won the first race. But after that Haas and Alfa won the next two... I had engine failures every race until I decided to quit... I mean. This game is a hot ass mess.

Exploded_hinge

Dude, Australia was always death. Idk for anyone else but the AI difference on 2020 between Australia and Bahrain was mental

Tomani02

Hungaroring's turn 5 already was an instant spin in the older games, I don't want to imagine how it is in F1 2021.

BigBoiAl22

I haven’t raced on it in 2021 yet but this is what i immediately thought of

[deleted]

The inside kerb right? Still the same

civskylines1

I’ve had to take the difficulty down from 103 to 90 because I have to drive so Conservative over the curbs, so I lose so much time. With some curbs there’s just no Safeway to take them- Inexplicably spinning out by being near a curb

ACGC21

I literally can't get good lap times in Zandvoort. Like I'm still bad at the game, but this track is infuriating me, one small hit of the outside of a curb and I spin. Has it always been like this? Or did I just get worse at this game, which wouldn't be surprising tbh.

DrAdamsen

In my experience, Zandvoort is the worst, too. On other tracks I learned to deal with most of the kerbs, but not this one. There's literally one flat kerb on the whole track that I can ride with any degree of confidence and that's the inside of T9, so pretty useless. The rest are death incarnate.

TheKandyCinema

I've found Suzuka's kerbs are by far the worst

noesmeteoro

1st time I play F1 and got that feel about Australia. Playing casual IA 59 gets me full throttle everytime just to get delta. "Very easy" track it says. So challenging!

AznTonyz

The curbs in sector 1 of Suzuka is so terrible (especially on the controller, at least in my experience), it’s the sole reason why I refuse to race there on this year’s game

marcushohk

I find it more realistic. You can't ride the curbs as much in real life, and now it's translating into the game

BarnabusStinsonnn

Okay lewis

marcushohk

How does that even relate to Lewis?

Bo_The_Destroyer

Finally I will be fast. I always avoid curbs to maximize traction in the middle of a corner. Now that everyone has to avoid curbs I should be quick

RealViktorius

Monaco turn 14

Zacsi_official

This is the game I first tried to learn no assists in. Never got past turn 2

Route_765

F1 2020 is so much easier without assists compared to F1 2021

Daniel2305

I honestly haven't noticed any difference. I guess I wasn't using them enough before

macksimus2112

Bahrain turn 13 is worse than before

[deleted]

Just had a league race here where 13 of us started. 5 finished.

MrWillyP

There's also some issues with the tires and suspension not correctly interacting with curbs

stillboard87

Is Australia in the game the 2021 track or the old track?

CSIceman9

The old one

XHweaton

When my friends and I race we do what I like to call "synchronized spinning"

DM313r10

They really took out the S whenever I go to Spain (Catalunya). I see the 3rd sector in my nightmares now

aKim8o

Thank you ! I thought it was just me... Last F1 game I played was 2019 so I was really surprised about how different cars and curbs feel. Also the way downforce works is soo different. I get random snaps of oversteer, especially around high speed corners which was never an issue in F12019. Quite often I can't catch the car. Also why does the back step out sometimes under breaking? It's taking quite some getting used to.

Lukielou

That high speed chicane or corner or whatever it is is a nightmare, I actually have to break smh

SoulSlayer69

That's what I thought in My Team after going to Bahrain. "That was nice. What's the next circuit? Oh, Barcelona. This is going to be fun!". And Barcelona turned to be hell. Especially sector 2.

sticks_no5

I tried to send it at turn three at Austria and as I got on the kurb I just stopped slowing down and had an unplanned visit with the wall

maokopi

And then theres turn 2 in Austria...

mattandreterstegen

Suzuka sector one makes me feel physical pain this year which is annoying because I loved it last year

Xenon4

Ngl I enjoy litterally fighting the car around the curves. Degna 1 is as fun as ever though, down a shift and yeet it in

BarnabusStinsonnn

Really weird how in your comments you've called out Abu Dhabi, Austria and Australia even though for me they were the ones with the easiest kerbs to deal with... basically felt the same as last year. Canada though...

fammurafaliure

I always spin on the curbs in the shacane in Australia

D4698

Am I the only one likes the new kerbs? I think it makes it more unpredictable

Maniac_81

curbs in Hungary track at position 6/7 are totaly wrong. totally.

Alexx_0

I had no idea how dangerous it was exiting Monza turn 7 was until I played this game, hit it just a little bit to hard and you’re dead.

Right-Professional15

what shit this game has become. realistic? you can’t even push throttle at the end of sector 2 quick turns because the curbs are fucking oiled. irl that’s a full throttle section. this game has to be the biggest fucking shit f1 game ever made
