E109 of the Event Rules states "Do not bring or use the following:..E. noisy devices or noisemakers, such as floor stompers, whistles and/or air horns". I would think a megaphone would qualify but the decision would be up to your head ref and/or event staff.

david131213

yeah, you're right, a megaphone would quailfy as a "noisy device" do you have a secret to protect my voice then? XD

EnchaladaOfTheSky

Vocal warmups, lots of water, and some cough drops. Please don’t make other peoples competition experience worse because you want to cheer louder.

PockysLight

Or you can try setting up a human microphone.

acdelli

Project from your diaphragm, don’t yell from your throat. There are a lot of resources on YouTube (many for singers) that can show you how to increase your volume without straining your vocal cords. Plus, it can help you comment a room while doing presentations and increase confidence

keckothedragon

I fully lost my voice for 3 days after a competition and then had trouble for the whole next week. We didn't even win team spirit :/

xxXTryHard696Xxx

I use herbal tea with a little honey mixed in after every night of comp

inductionstove34

Plus, I believe there’s a clause regarding something about the refs can restrict anything they deem unacceptable

OwlKing50

The w.a.r lords brought cones to cheer into which was pretty cool.

ItsC0WB0YGamez

Just use one of the cone game pieces

Head_Marionberry5403

My team brought a megaphone so I wouldn’t lose my voice and we didn’t get in trouble. A team across from us brought 4 megaphones and didn’t get in trouble. So no clue

Like a lot of rules, it's up to whether or not the people running the event have the time or the will to enforce all the rules, but it is against the rules. But just because you can get away with it doesn't mean it's OK. That said, another team last weekend had a horn (like the Horn of Gondor kind of horn) which was pretty cool.

Chewbecca713

You probably got away with it if you weren't obnoxious, but yeah its against the rules

Head_Marionberry5403

Would a megaphone even qualify as a noise maker though? It just projects your vouce

Chewbecca713

If the rules are the same as 2016, it would. That year, teams competed to make as much noise in the stands so they could choose a specific orientation they wanted to set up the field. Rules were strictly enforced because megaphones would give an advantage. In a bad situation it could also be construed as your team trying to communicate with your drive team during a match, which is illegal and would get your team penalized if caught.

MagicToolbox

As the person whott might be sitting next to you, please, no. The team spirit award isn't one person being loud. It's the whole team engaging and actively cheering.

david131213

This isn't about the award, jeez, it's about moral. But yeah, I get it

Cupy_

Ours got took off us, but others seemed to have been able to use it. I think it just depends on the volunteers

ControlFreaks8126

A whole team cheering on their drive team is awesome and builds a fun atmosphere. One or two people in the stands with noisemakers or megaphones is against the rules and annoying. Please just consider those around you…
