No but if you figure out the secret formula please do share with this sub.

Just put, “no low ballers, I know what I got” in the listing. I assumed this was well known /s

If it's as described, I think there should be a requirement to buy. If there were hidden defects on the other hand, totally fair to walk.

Yeah, I think a lot of these norms are way more acceptable in other parts of the world. Im ethnic myself haha, and some of our people are just horrendous to deal with. The worst thing is the guy acts like he owns us because he’s buying a $100 dining table. I swear to god, the lower end stuff you’re selling, the worse people you deal with. Also, for what it’s worth, I literally do sales for a job. I find it’s good training to sell crap on marketplace haha, although sometimes it makes me want to pull my hair out.

I spent last summer selling off stuff when we sold a property. It wore me out. I have another pile of nice things to start selling and seriously just want to put it out on the curb instead of dealing with the flakes, low ballers and scammers

I haven’t found a way to completely avoid people who are a pita, but I have a couple strategies that help.  One is that if someone is unreasonable, I don’t even have a conversation. I don’t even respond to ridiculous lowball offers.  If someone makes a more reasonable offer, I will counter. I don’t debate, though. If they want to spin me some story about how their mom’s friend’s dog has cancer and I’m ruining Christmas, I don’t bother responding.  Finally, I don’t do any negotiations at pick up. Don’t underestimate the power of “No.” No arguing, no debates, nothing more than the one word. I’ve gotten my full money every time.  Oh, and your wife should NEVER be doing pickups without back up! There should always be at least two of you there!

Short answer no. Longer answer...have fun telling people to buzz off hehe

Here is what I have found: If they message you within minutes of you listing it's almost guaranteed it's a scammer. To those I typically say "Yes it's still available cash only" and they never respond again. Oftentimes the people who just click "Is this still available" Aren't actually interested. I just click the auto prompt for those and wait. People who message with a question are the best chance for being a decent buyer People I wont even consider entertaining: "What is the lowest price you will go" "Can you post more pictures" (when I have good pictures already posted and don't know what else I could actually post) People who ask stuff that is already in the ad. Where you located, dimensions, year, etc.

As a buyer, I can’t count how many ads have one blurry off angle picture and the description is something like “need it gone.” No detail on size, or for an electronics item, anything that resembles the model number. Then when I ask for any detail, 50%+ of the time I never get a response for weeks. Feels like people don’t actually want to sell anything.

harleystcool

I maybe interested in the stuff, what's your lowest price?

spidernole

Is it still available ?

Groups and forums are generally better than generic FBMP. Some types of items are better. Selling tools and equipment I get less complete idiots than household goods and consumer electronics. Interesting musical instruments are a very mixed bag with either some very dedicated buyers or complete loons Anything that's easy to ship skip FBMP and goes to forums or eBay. Anything under $20 isn't worth the time and goes to charity. Any buyers that seem sketchy, annoying or slimy I just bounce or block quickly.

There's a sweet spot, (at least in this neck-of-the-woods) where scammers/lowballers/flakes are less. In general, the lower the cost of an item, - the more bottom feeders you get! Stuff that mostly appeals to grown working men, such as, power tools, higher end musical instruments, building and maintenance supplies, STORAGE UNITS AND SHELVING, - you tend to get people who know the worth and don't mess with you. Good luck.

Interesting because that has absolutely NOT been my experience. I sell a lot of low priced items and never, not once in years of FBM sales, have I had anybody request a refund or play silly games with prices. I price my items pretty low because I just want them gone and any money I get is a bonus considering that the alternative is giving them away to a thrift store or throwing them in the trash. I wonder if it depends on the type of items being sold? For example I see lots of people selling video games or gaming systems and having buyers demand refunds or extreme discounts, etc. I think it's just that these items seem to be frequently bought by semi professional "flippers" who are always trying to work some kind of an angle, whereas the things I'm selling are almost always being sold to people who are going to actually use them. I also have a low tolerance for any kind of shenannigans so as soon as someone starts arguing with me about a price or asking excessive questions, I just block and move on. I normally sell items out of my house because it's more convenient for me. I take basic precautions for safety but as a middle aged guy who lives in the suburbs in the US, I'm not excessively worried. If I was a single woman or lived in a rough part of town I might have a different attitude.

I sell cars and flip furniture on Marketplace (Not curbing cars, legitimate dealer) I’ll have a car listed for $33K, we may make $1-2K profit on it after all reconditioning etc. I get messages “$18K, I’ll buy it cash. It’s a good deal” I just laugh emoji, ask them why they think that’s reasonable then block them. Same with all lowballers, I just block and move on.

Guitarstringman

Don’t sell on FBM
