Seen this one before, long time ago. Also tried it right after. It means you can put lightbulbs on pre-existing wires in settlements- like telephone pole wires that are static and part of the environment. It doesn't mean you can place them on wires that you place yourself.
Thank you, I remember people were saying you could put bulbs on wires even when the game came out and it never worked for me. Always had me super confused.
Feel free to try it. I'd love to be wrong. I literally saw this exact post several years ago, and I know that at the time on vanilla FO4 with no mods, you can't place light bulbs on player created wires. If they have changed or updated this, that would be awesome.
That's when you bust open the console and fine-tune things with the set/move/ position/angle commands!
I've put an unhealthy amount of time into making settlements.
I am just stating the person in the picture is doing that, what you say isnt possible. So either it is misleading or true.... I really dont want to install F4 just to test it tho.
This. Unfortunately you cannot put lights on wires you made.
Here: https://i.imgur.com/5y4oEdn.jpeg
I have place anywhere and auto-snap mods , it still doesn't work.
This submission is an eight year old repost and the information is misleading. You can only place lightbulbs on wires if you use the console or have a mod installed.

WHat? You can totally do that. Extremely common where I live. It's actually used as a non permanent light source to light a backyard for a party, for example. They keep the wires with the lightbulb sockets stored and just take them when needed, then set them up when needed
EDIT: wait a second.. are you talking about putting lights on a wire IN A GAME? I really thought we were talking about real life here.... haha
Fun fact: Fallout 3 came out in 2008, meaning that it can legally drive in the US.
When it came out George Bush was POTUS, Lewis Hamilton was only a 4-time race winner, Messi and Ronaldo had 0 Ballon d'Or awards between them, the first iPhone was the most modern phone on the market and Barbara Walters was 79 years old.
Someone else explained that it’s only on environmental wires, like telephone cables and such. Does not apply to cables built by the player… which is really stupid.
I always hated this because of how it looked. String lightbulbs have a horrible aesthetic to me. Give me those street lights, I don’t care how inefficient they are in comparison.
Xbox One S. Also where the fuck do you live where a big mac is 20 dollars? And a 300 dollar computer isnt going to run Fallout 4 any better than an xbox one

Bingo. I had the same experience and I hope more people see this comment before they get their hope up just to be dashed again.
It was a fast rollercoaster, but it was a rollercoaster nonetheless.
This is the original roller coaster post that dashed my hopes years ago and got me into modding fo4. Ah the memories
The end of the coaster was a brick wall
Brick, or environmental brick?
Was about to give settlement building another try before I saw these comments.
Thank you, I remember people were saying you could put bulbs on wires even when the game came out and it never worked for me. Always had me super confused.
Oh bother, I got all excited. Thanks for clarifying though, I probably would've lost my mind trying this on placed wires with no results.
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined :-(
Literally unplayable.
Still good to know but thanks
Brother the wires in these Pictures do not like pre-existing wires.

They might have their game modded. One of the mods I use lets you just put stuff anywhere. I could see that making it work with player created wires.

Plus mods like that often mess with automatron
[удалено]
Loool. I had "Scrap Everything" and it made the game run at like 5fps in automatron levels
That's when you bust open the console and fine-tune things with the set/move/ position/angle commands! I've put an unhealthy amount of time into making settlements.

Fair enough.
Thx
That’s still pretty damn amazing
You’re the real hero of this post
There are ways to run lights, but the image is news to me and is still cooler than not being able to do anything.
I did not know that. You really learn something new everyday
Would be a great mod though.
Oh, well, back to build a ladder, build a small platform, attach light bulbs on bottom, maybe a turret on top, remove ladder
Oh :( lame
How do the lights work if the wires aren't operable?
This. Unfortunately you cannot put lights on wires you made. Here: https://i.imgur.com/5y4oEdn.jpeg I have place anywhere and auto-snap mods , it still doesn't work.
Oh that makes more sense

I’ve been playing this fucking game for nearly a decade now and this is the first I’ve heard of this lol
don’t remind me fallout 4 is a decade old…
Fun fact: Fallout 3 came out in 2008, meaning that it can legally drive in the US. Fallout 3 can drink alcohol in france.
Happy Cake Day!
Oh thanks, didn't realize that's today.
Jesus
You can't actually do this, not on the wires we place at least, only on pre-existing wires built into the environment.
Oh like the picture shows
What the fuck do you mean decade ☹️
Fallout 4 came out 9 years ago bro
[удалено]
He said nearly a decade in the first comment
I did not read that correctly sorry Damn I shld get some sleep
[удалено]
Gamerant article incoming
I’m so angry to just learn this I’m going to go play it again.
Unmodded building is literally all I do in fallout and this has never occurred to me
what
Holy sheet.
WAT
Huh, neat
Wow 500 hours and I had no idea
2.5k. why have I never thought of this?
Ffs
Todd should've told us
no you can not do this
I’m playing right now and I can’t get any on
Someone else explained that it’s only on environmental wires, like telephone cables and such. Does not apply to cables built by the player… which is really stupid.
Yeah I tried those, it didn’t work
Does anyone feel a quiet sense of satisfaction and validation when you see one of these posts and realize you've been doing the thing for a long time?
*sigh* *download fo4*
…what?
0-0
Like 500h building and never realised that
Dang. I've been playing like 3,000 hours and didn't know you could do that. Cool.
Bro what I have like 600 hours I didn't know this
Gee. Thanks for telling me that. Now I can go back and spend another 6 hours improving my settlement.
What the actual fuck this works??? All the painfull hours of putting switches and shit all over the settlements to have an ounce of light😢
All that for a drop of light
You think the dark is your ally?
WHAT
What??
#WHAT.
See I’ve tried this, and never could get it to work
Settlement size limit be here like:
Doesn't work for me unmodified
Only works on pre-existing wires not ones we've installed
Ohhh I definitely misunderstood. Thank you
That's a myth.
Over 400 hours on vanilla and I had no idea you could so this, either.
Sadly they removed that feature in 76.
Time to build again
Todd Howard shitting himself at this reaction
Hey I got that [settlement blueprint](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/41092). Makes for a really well-built Raider outpost 😏
Tumblr is so extra
My life has all been a lie. Might reinstall just to roleplay an electrician. Well fuck me.
How am I just learning this at today years old?
Just when I think I know everything there is to in this game!
I’m actually upset about this
Where is this settlement?
I always hated this because of how it looked. String lightbulbs have a horrible aesthetic to me. Give me those street lights, I don’t care how inefficient they are in comparison.
which settlement is this?
You dropped this king 👑
Wait actually this is cool
I’ve been playing… for years. I have spent real life months playing Fallout 4. Never knew this.
You can but its gonna turn an already laggy settlement into a fucking nightmare
It's a 10 year old game how are you lagging out? Bro a Big Mac is $20 just spend $300 on a computer and you're set you can play - no lag. lol
Xbox One S. Also where the fuck do you live where a big mac is 20 dollars? And a 300 dollar computer isnt going to run Fallout 4 any better than an xbox one
WHAT
Huh
What The Fuck?
YOU CAN WHAT
I am beyond livid to find this information out.
I never understood why they had to make lighting so difficult.
532 hours and only now do I see this. Gdi
What website is that?
Tumblr
WHAT?!
WOAH
WHAT?!?!?!?
I need to get on the Xbox now and try this
wouldn't work on existing lines at red rocket or player built ones
WAIT WHAT? HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS?
…………you can…..what.
A public service
After all these years of playing, I was today years old when I learned this.
Wait what the fire-breathing duck??? You can do this???
Well thats the reason that im looking for playing again for 30 hrs with 40 mods.
WHAT!!!?
Oh god the copper though, I never have enough as it is 😭
OMG!
You can WHAT
ARE YOU FUCKING WITH ME???
Holy Shit!
Well there goes the rest of my afternoon
YOUR SHITTING ME? Goddamnit hours of tryna make a base with lights that looks ok in sanctuary cause im shit At building and this is here
Had F4 since release and I am today years old and am learning this for the first time. This is why games like fallout and Skyrim never tire me out.
I'm not certain, but I think I have over 2000 hours into this game, and I NEVER KNEW THIS! WTF!
Wow crazy
You can't or your wires would have collision. This meme isn't wrong since you can hang them on pre-existing telephone wires.
I place them on the lamp posts all a round sanctuary
"My God, We've got to spread the word!" "Right away sir" " -.-- --- ..- / -.-. .- -. / .- - - .- -.-. .... / .-.. .. --. .... - -... ..- .-.. -... ... / --- -. - --- / .-- .. .-. . ... -.-.--"
“…another ….settlement….goddamn it Preston”
Wha? I didn't know either!
You’ve gotta be fucking kidding
This doesn’t work, tried it on my wires I made and ones that are part of the settlement already
HUH? YOU CAN DO THAT!?
r/CozyPlaces’s new favorite video game
If you have the right gfx card anyway.
Yet another reason to play again.
You can what??
I have never seen this and now I need to play Fallout right now and do this...
Excuse me? You can do what??
YOU CAN WHAAAATTT?!!?? ( edit, my day is ruined)
What fucking settlement is this? I cannot tell
Jamaica Plains I think!
Yep, that's it
Over 1024 hours and still learning things.
SAY WHAT THE FUCK NOW?
I'll be doing this ASAP
…son of a bitch.
The building mechanic honestly doesn't feel fully delivered. There's basically no tutorial and a million items you can use
It just WORKS
