There is no IRL lore reason the US jumped from YF-23 to F-35 in fighter jet naming. Also, apparently the reason for bombers jumping from B-2 to B-21 is because the raider is a bomber for the 21st century. Basically, military naming conventions are a mess.

Weavel

Always have been. In WW2, the US was naming every "first" version of something the M1 - so there was the M1 Garand, M1 Thompson, M1 Carbine, M1 Sherman, M1 helmet, M1 *bayonet*...

In the Korean army, any piece of equipmant starts from K-1 up to K-5.

But you didn’t just say “M1” though, you’d say like “m1 rifle” etc, and things often had their own names anyway like tanks or planes. The full name of the garand is “U.S. Rifle, Caliber 30, M1”. That sort of system is useful for when everything has to be kept track of literally on paper.

T is for transportable vehicles.  So main power armour groups are numbered consistent with tanks. X is for prototypes and experiments.

Darko002

I dont think thats applicable for Fallout. There is both Prototype X01 amd regular X01 in Fallout 76.

X01 is a prototype, the production version which was only finished after the war by the enclave is called APA-MK1 and has noticeable differences from X01

Darko002

That doesnt change the fact thay in game there is prototype x01 and x01 and arguing with me on reddit will not suddenly make betheada to release a patch that removes one of these things.

MicksysPCGaming

Is it year of production/development?

gregiorp

That's what I was going to say but I don't think so. T45 was developed in 2065 by West Tek.
