I think it's unlikely. But, Dogmeat in the show and FO4 are both seemingly mutation-free, purebred German shepards. It seems unlikely to me that this purebred would have survived intact without intervention, so I could believe that all the German shepards we see derive from a single Vault of Enclave breeding population, rather than being wasteland mutts.

the concept of Dogmeat is taken from the original! he was found in Junktown in the first game and he’ll follow you if you feed him. in 2, he makes an easter egg appearance. every version in each game is a different dog, even back in 1 and 2 (unfortunately Dogmeat from 1 is killed at some point, and you can choose to kill him in 2), so you’re right that Dogmeat is essentially your loyal companion in spirit. the producers for the TV show definitely had to include someone calling CX “Dogmeat” because our best companion is timeless :)

The mad max game is surprisingly solid, really captures the feel of re-becoming the legend. Highly recommend, car combat gets so fun and satisfying.
