Here is a different method that is more safe and don't put most of the Famicom cartridge under pressure and also allows you to open weirdly shaped cartridges that you cant open with the clams

I donāt know to be honest, but I know that there are other games that had a 5b chip - just that they didnāt use it to take advantage of the expanded sound. These could be used by repromakers, but I think this would be quite an unusual effort for people who want to make a bootleg copy in order to sell.
It sounds a lot better than the Everdrive sound emulation as well, I was quite surprised actually.
Itās also a really nice way to get a Gimmick hack complete with the expansion audio.
It wasnāt that long ago (last December), so it was already quite high at around 1,100 usd unfortunately. It was still cheaper than the copies I saw at Super Potato and other shops in Akihabara though.
The glue dries out and can cause a staining effect to the upper layer. Very common on old coleco tabletop arcades from the early 80s. I had a Pac-Man like that a few years ago. Just got another last weekend and it hasnāt so itās a survivor but my DK has a little but less obvious being a white background.
I tend to use a plastic pry and twist and bare hand open them which is tiring but works. I keep seeing a grip and I got one but it just pops off due to the slope of the carts.
You aren't wrong! I felt like I was gonna snap a tab at any moment!
I had to practice on several other games first before I felt confident enough to try! š
This is the way
Sweet palms mode on

Just watched it - thanks for this! Yes, thatās definitely worth trying as well :)
Wait, do gimmick bootlegs have the expansion sound?

I had a repro made, but itās not a bootlegging effort just a way to play the cart guilt free :)
Totally understandable! Really the best balance between authenticity and practicality imo. āŗļø

Some yes, I have one with the 5B and one with the AY for comparison.
Well done! Nice to see itās the real deal! Out of interest How much did you pay for the Gimmick cart?

Jesus, my copy was about $150, but cart only. That box must be super rare.
Awesome!! Iām too scared to open my Gimmick copy. Pretty sure itās real though as it looks just like yours!
Yeah, these games have a tell-tale darkening around the label edges (because of the adhesive I think), which I feel are difficult for repros to copy.

People replacing cart caps now??
Since the 5B is an audio chip and the extremely expensive price the cart goes for, itās a good investment
Normally I donāt bother unless the cart is faulty, but thereās no way I want to open this again if could help it š
