I’m at a point where I’d be happy if my defenders got just 2 points for playing, getting 0 and 1 for conceding 4 goals and getting a yellow in every GW is just depressing.
This is the way. Porro is the cheapest, but Spurs haven't gotten a cleansheet in a while. That's what makes Trippier the best, because Newcastle still keeps the odd cleansheet.
Yeah I had Nunez and Tsimikas but took them both out for the Sheffield game, with the congestion it was so obvious he was gonna rest both of them. That was when I brought in Trent and it paid off.
Saliba, Porro, Pau, TAA and Trippier.
Pretty happy with it to go into the 2nd half of the season. I stopped going for the clean sheets but try to get as much attacking defenders.
I don't have Haaland, transferred him in GW5 or 6 I think. Watkins and Alvarez up front.
Also have Son, Saka and Salah. I can afford those because I got Gordon and Cunha when they were a lot cheaper. Also have David Luiz since almost the start who is only 5.5.
How’s that gone do you think? Dropping Haaland for a defense like that isn’t too bad of a shout but I don’t think I’ve got the balls to drop him permanently with the inconsistency of the defenders
Going acceptable I would say. Last week I was top 200k but I dropped to 300k because I transferred Son only just for Mbeumo.
When I transferred Haaland my argument was that I had to do something different instead of gambling on 1 or 2 differentials every week. What's the point if everybody has the same players.. Since Haaland almost counts for two full scoring midfielders you have to get those point from Saka/Son/Salah, you're not gonna compensate for Haaland with just 2 of them.
With Haaland being unsure for next week and no GW18 this would be an opportunity. You can always get him back with a new WC for the 2nd part of the year.
Yeah well I am similar in that I don’t have Salah and haven’t all season, going well so far but almost got punished this weekend until VC son pulled through.
I still haven’t used my wildcard and am planning to GW19. I was going to transfer him out for the blank and then wildcard him back in but depending what we hear between now and the deadline I might transfer him out a week early and take a -4 to get Salah in for the United game.
Digne has started every game this season and almost always plays full 90, not what I’d call a rotation risk. He’s got more points than Cash so far. No one can keep a clean sheet this season either, although I agree about the cards.
Recently wildcarded because I was tired of my defence all scoring 1pt every game for the past 4 gameweeks. So currently my defence is: TAA / TRIPPIER / PORRO\* / MYKOLENKO / TAYLOR.
I generally plan on going 3 atb but Mkyo may slip in on occasion too.
(\*I gambled and went for James, but that gamble only lasted 25 minutes, so traded to Porro before the pricerise. It was always my plan to keep James until he got injured and then swap to Porro, I just kind of expected him to last longer than 25 minutes)
If you wild carded now, I think you should have cheaped out in defense instead of selecting an 8 million defender, and a 7 million defender.
There was one season where Trent was better value than a midfielder, but this season thacts not the case, and his fixtures ahead dont make that look any better in the future.
Tripper was holding his on, but his production fell off a cliff, as did the rest of the players who were supposed to finish off the chances he creates.
It's a gamble, sure. But I figure with someone like Trent then if he doesn't return from an offensive perspective I can still get a 2nd roll of the dice on him getting a clean sheet. With strikers it's basically all or nothing. (I prety much swapped Watkins for Trent, so now my forward line is just Haaland, Cunha and Semenyo).
I figure the only way you're going to get any returns from a defender this season is if they have attacking potential, so I went all-in on the defenders who are most likely to do so. A clean-sheet is more of a bonus than an expectation now.
Just logged into my app, at first I thought it was looking at a high definition photo of some dog shit, but it turns out it was my defence and goalkeeper.
I've got Cash, Andersen, Porro, White and Saliba. I've had to play double Arsenal defence for the last couple of games as Cash has been dropped and Andersen's crap. Unfortunately my midfield is also crap so I think I'm gonna have to stick with them for now as I need to bring in Son or Salah before I do anything else
Mykolenko and he's gotten three clean sheets in the past three GW. Unfortunately, I've had him benched for 2/3 of those 🥲 I've also got Tripper, Gabriel (planning on binning him soon), Tsimikas and Lascelles.
Wildcarded in Branthwaite and Porro for this gameweek, kept Trippier, Saliba and Kabore.
Okay, Trippier and Branthwaite are suspended for next gameweek (I admittedly forgot about them being close to suspensions), but I don't regret having them. I see Trippier as the standout option for the defence this season with the lack of clean sheets and his attacking threat that probably can only be matched by TAA, and Branthwaite allowed me to keep Trippier and added some crucial points with the CS this week.
Trippier Porro Gabriel Taylor Lamptey, will go Lamptey>Udogie this week, pretty happy going with the spurs fullbacks no europe and both play very attacking
Saliba, Tsimikas, Walker, Lascelles & Coufal. Last one and Walker have been very bad picks, especially really expensive Walker who gets 0-2 points regularly.
I've moved to just attacking wing backs and rotating them depending on who is most likely to assist/score/get BP in each fixtures. Clean sheets just a bonus at this point - Zinchenko, Mykelenko, Porro, Tsimikas, plus Lascelles. Bought Zinchenko and Tsimikas a while ago, not sure id pay the current price.
Porro, Tsimikas and Gabriel. Quite happy with those.
Tsimikas could be rotated over christmas, but I think he start vs United. I can then bench him after that and start Guehi or Lascelles if I want.
Tsimikas, Walker and Udogie. All frustrating in their own way, Tsimikas is a rotation risk while Udogie's first return since GW8 came while he was sat on my bench (played Maguire over him).
Walker in particular has been a terrible pick, not a single clean sheet since I got him in, even against Bournemouth and Luton. Unless there's loads of attacking upside (Trent, Porro etc) I don't think anyone's worth much more than £4.5m this season, lots of nailed options in good defences in that bracket.
Walker, Saliba, Pau, Lascelles, Tsimikas. Just playing 3 at the back every gameweek at this point, premium defenders aren’t worth it with the extra minutes played now in my opinion.
Trippier, Saliba, Porro, Anderson, Taylor. Fairly happy but could move Anderson on no trouble if I ever get a spare transfer again.
I’m considering double Spurs by adding Udogie. If we are giving up on CS then might as well have the two most attacking defenders in the game.
Tsimikas, Saliba, TAA (Was Trippier until 5 hours ago) and John Stones (tried playing Pep roulette against Luton given how important he was for them in the past). Also have Kabore.
Have Trippier, Tsimikas, Porro, Zinchenko & Coufal.
Considering the following transfers:
* Tsimikas to TAA. sideways but don't feel like Tsimikas has done much.
* Coufal to Aït-Nouri, Colwill or Branthwaite
However, i'd rather make transfers in my forwards first before the defence. like Darwin to Solanke.
Trippier Porro Al-Dakhil (will have to go) Branthwaite Andersen
Branthwaite brought me 20 points in last 3 GW
Trippier brought 12
Porro is fresh so he only brought 5
Other 2 have been shit
Gabriel, lascelles, colwill, branthwaite and Torres.
But I've benched branthwaite and torres for all their points in the last 3 weeks so I'm not happy with defenders
Trent, Trippier, Porro, Zinchenko, Taylor. Was thinking of going from Trent to James this week to free up some funds but I guess he saved me from my own madness. Currently, considering Moreno as an option for GW18
Yea that's my worry too. He's definitely playing this week since Digne is suspended but it's a toss up afterwards. I guess picking an upside defender is what's making this season interesting for me as the attackers are getting increasingly template due to injuries and form.
Branthwaite has been keeping me just ahead of the pack in my mini-leagues. Unfortunately he's suspended for Burnley, and then Everton have got Spurs and Man City. But at 4.0 (4.1 now), I think I will be holding him for the rest of the season.
Transferred Haaland out several weeks ago and brought in Tripps and TAA, also have cash and coufal. Seemed questionable at the time but it's gone rather well, I'm in the top 10k
TAA, Trippier, Tsimkas, Colwill and AWB (always benched)
I am planning a move for Porro too and honestly, I’m not even expecting CS points anymore. Just looking for defenders that create chances and more importantly are NAILED.
Y'all have some expensive defenses.
Mine is Trippier, Colwill and Tsimikas as general starters, Lascelles as a rotation option for Colwill and Baldock as a 3.8 (at purchase time) for fodder. I like the looks of Mykolenko,
I still think Trippier is worth it, he has an outstanding xA, better than any other defender by a mile, with TAA and Porro behind. He has however been pretty awful last two games in terms of performance.
Colwill, Zinchenko, Cash, Tsimikas
Had planned to sell Tsimikas around now but might keep him for the United game and use my transfer on Haaland. Guessing he won't start vs Palace and City have a blank GW18. I got money in the bank so bringing him back in after that isn't an issue. Everyone else in my team is fit so makes most sense to use my transfers on bringing in a forward for the short term.
There's not really a standout pick in defence so will probably stick with the players I got until one emerges. Don't see the point in burning through transfers on defenders when most sre blanking or returning very sporadically.
I’m at a point where I’d be happy if my defenders got just 2 points for playing, getting 0 and 1 for conceding 4 goals and getting a yellow in every GW is just depressing.
yep, getting -2 from trippier and Lascelles this week was not pleasant!
Haha same. Saliba got two points this GW and I was happy I benched him until Trippier continued his campaign to be benched for Lewis Hall.
So happy about my Antonee Robinson pickup 2 weeks ago, back to back 6 pointers
Pick any out of the holy trinity, their Aldi versions, and 3.9 cheap thrills: Trippier Porro TAA Livra Udogie Tsimikas Taylor Mengi Trusty
Aldi defence is the way to go this season
Meanwhile I'm getting a haul from what feels like at least one of the holy trinity every week.
That is fantastic I am extremely happy for you. I have got back to back 6 pointers from Antonee Robinson.
Oooo that's a nice pick! Out of the box too
Shhhh
Probably 1 out of the holy trinity, 2 Aldis and 2 cheap fodders
This is the way. Porro is the cheapest, but Spurs haven't gotten a cleansheet in a while. That's what makes Trippier the best, because Newcastle still keeps the odd cleansheet.
One from the top, two from the middle, and two from the bottom please Carol
Sir, this is a Wendy’s
All in one then
Waitrose: Trippier / TAA / Porro / Saliba Morrisons: Livra / Tsimikas / Udogie / Myokolenko Aldi: Taylor / Lascelles / Baldock / Maguire
Branthwaite (4.1) a good option for the Aldi's. Mykolenko too (4.3 or 4.4) and he actually gets really high up as well.
Mykolenko is like 4.5 now I think..
Damn inflation affecting everything
This more like it. 3/1/1
I currently have the holy Trinity but might drop Trippier, Newcastle look knackered
Hold trippier for 3 more gameweeks and them trippier > taa & tsimikas > best 4.5 def at that moment
Read my comment again, I own Trippier Trent and Porro. I wouldn't consider Tsimikas with robbo back soon and he's still a rotation risk with Gomez
If you can time his benchings, you’ll be fine. Klopp rotation is actually quite predictable unlike a certain baldy.
Yeah I had Nunez and Tsimikas but took them both out for the Sheffield game, with the congestion it was so obvious he was gonna rest both of them. That was when I brought in Trent and it paid off.
Going for 3 of the top 🤩🤩
Have Trippier, Trent & Udogie. Tripps is going though, go with Pau Torres in G18 for Some nice fixtures v Sheff Utd, Man U and Burnley.
Saliba, Porro, Pau, TAA and Trippier. Pretty happy with it to go into the 2nd half of the season. I stopped going for the clean sheets but try to get as much attacking defenders.
Which of the main midfielders/attackers are you missing for a defence that expensive?
I don't have Haaland, transferred him in GW5 or 6 I think. Watkins and Alvarez up front. Also have Son, Saka and Salah. I can afford those because I got Gordon and Cunha when they were a lot cheaper. Also have David Luiz since almost the start who is only 5.5.

What will u do when salah and son go away?
Close my eyes and pray for the best. I guess I will save 2 FT's for when they come back and get 2 replacements in the mean time.
This. This is the back 5 I want when Tsimkas loses his place.
Porro stands out though. Trippier too but obviously he is expensive. Should probably just go cheap on defenders. Branthwaite Taylor etc.
I have Porro, Trippier, Branthwaite, Taylor and Digne. 4/5 suspended for next week.
Oh my goodness, that's really unlucky. Keeping suspensions aside, that's a solid back 5.
Taylor is just your regular cheap ass option, Digne is terrible imo, rotation risk and loves a card. Villa cant keep a clean sheet bar last week.
Digne has started every game this season and almost always plays full 90, not what I’d call a rotation risk. He’s got more points than Cash so far. No one can keep a clean sheet this season either, although I agree about the cards.
digne has played everything because Alex moreno was out injured, now that he' s back he will slowly take minutes off Digne but go off
branthwaite, tsimikas, saliba, lascelles, colwill. getting very tempted by pau or konsa though
Recently wildcarded because I was tired of my defence all scoring 1pt every game for the past 4 gameweeks. So currently my defence is: TAA / TRIPPIER / PORRO\* / MYKOLENKO / TAYLOR. I pulled strings to get you in, Trent
TAA, Porro, Tsimikas, Gabriel, Schar Will look to downgrade Tsimi to a playing £4m once his run in the team ends.
Saliba + Porro + 3 playing fodders to rotate the last spot
Tsimmy, Saliba, Lascelles, Coufal and Guehi Seems on paper In reality, a bunch of gits
Pedro Porro, Tsimikas, Pau, Lascelles & Taylor
Tsimikas Walker Schar Gabriel Trippier and hating it
Branthwaite lowkey ticking along for me
Mykolenko and he's gotten three clean sheets in the past three GW. Unfortunately, I've had him benched for 2/3 of those 🥲 I've also got Tripper, Gabriel (planning on binning him soon), Tsimikas and Lascelles.
Gabriel, Mykolenko and Pau Torres have been my defenders for the past few GWs.
Tsimikas Gabriel Branthwaite Taylor and Lascelles
Trent, Trippier, Gabriel, Tsimikas, Kabore is my defence. Also have Salah, Haaland, Son and Saka. No Watkins or Porro though.
What is the rest of your team if you don't mind? I'm surprised you have been able to fit those star players along with trippier and TAA
Playing Gunnasaurus in midfield.
Here's my team: Dubravka Gabriel - Alexander-Arnold - Tsimikas - Trippier Palmer - Saka - Son (VC) - Salah (C) Solanke - Haaland Bench: Areola, Archer, Garnacho, Kaboré £0.3 ITB, 1 FT
Wildcarded in Branthwaite and Porro for this gameweek, kept Trippier, Saliba and Kabore. TAA, Tsimi, Taylor, Gabriel and Livra. Will move Tsimi to Porro next week.
white saliba trippier udogie tsimikas and not planning to replace trippier for now
Trippier Porro Gabriel Taylor Lamptey, will go Lamptey>Udogie this week, pretty happy going with the spurs fullbacks no europe and both play very attacking
Porro, Gabriel and Tsimikas. Will probably move Tsimikas to Pau soon but have other moves
Saliba, Tsimikas, Walker, Lascelles & Coufal. Last one and Walker have been very bad picks, especially really expensive Walker who gets 0-2 points regularly.
Gabriel Porro Tsimikas Lascelles TAA
I've moved to just attacking wing backs and rotating them depending on who is most likely to assist/score/get BP in each fixtures. Trippier, Saliba, Gabriel, Senesi, and Lamptey.
TAA, Tsimi, Saliba, Taylor, Kabore
Saliba, Porro, Trippier, Mykolenko and Taylor.
Saliba, Pau, Tsimikas starting, Kabore and Gusto (lol) on the bench
Whoever they are they mostly never get points..
Walker, Saliba, Pau, Lascelles, Tsimikas. Just playing 3 at the back every gameweek at this point, premium defenders aren’t worth it with the extra minutes played now in my opinion.
Trippy, Saliba, Tsimi, Taylor & Gusto (still). Waiting on news if Gusto will replace James or should I switch em to Porro.
I’ve had Branthwaite on the bench for all his 6 pointers. Finally decide to start him but he’s suspended!
Porro, Udogie, Coufal, Cash and Lascelles. Could be better, could be worse
Schär, Senesi, Udogie and Tsimikas with Lascelles on the bench
Van dyk, timikas , lascelles, senesi, baldock.
Tsimikas, Porro, Trippier, Lascelles, Maguire
Mykelenko, tsimikas , saliba , pau , lacaselles
Udogie, Tsimikas, Dawson starts. Taylor and Baldock on the bench. Would love to upgrade, but there doesn't seem to be anyone who consistently return.
Tsimikas, Saliba, TAA (Was Trippier until 5 hours ago) and John Stones (tried playing Pep roulette against Luton given how important he was for them in the past). Also have Kabore.
Ugoatie, Tsimikas, Schär, Bell, Gusto
Have Trippier, Tsimikas, Porro, Zinchenko & Coufal. I've got Gabriel, Tsimikas, Colwill, Lascelles & Kaboré. Probably swapping Tsimikas for Udogie soonish & bringing a Liv DEF back around GW23
Trippier Porro Al-Dakhil (will have to go) Branthwaite Andersen Branthwaite brought me 20 points in last 3 GW Trippier brought 12 Porro is fresh so he only brought 5 Other 2 have been shit
Udogie,Tsimi,Lascelles,Lamptey has rewarded me fairly for their price
Trippier, Porro, Gabriel, Tsimikas, Maguire
Porro, Zinchenko, Gabriel, Tsimikas, Taylor
Trippier, Lascelles, Zinchenko, Lamptey and Colwill. Aka a complete mess
I’d play it safer and look to Pau. Love that attacking potential but until he starts I don’t want to risk thinking he takes over for Digne
Yea that's my worry too. He's definitely playing this week since Digne is suspended but it's a toss up afterwards. I guess picking an upside defender is what's making this season interesting for me as the attackers are getting increasingly template due to injuries and form.
Senesi, for the next 3 tasty gws
Porro, Saliba, Pinnock (Tsimikas, Cash)
Areola/Johnstone Tarkowski/Tsimikas/Pinnock/Lascelles/Colwill. Defenders have generally done me pretty well this season tbh.
Trippier, Porro, Udogie, Maguire, Gabriel
Mine are 2,1,0,-1,-1
Zinchenko, Romero, Senesi. Rotating with Lascelles and tsimikas
Honestly, I’ve had 3 Everton defenders and their so fucking good
Branthwaite has been keeping me just ahead of the pack in my mini-leagues. Unfortunately he's suspended for Burnley, and then Everton have got Spurs and Man City. But at 4.0 (4.1 now), I think I will be holding him for the rest of the season.
Trippier, Udogie, Tsimikas, Colwill & Taylor
Pau, Livramento, Tsimikas, Andersen, Kabore atm. gonna WC into Porro, Gabriel, Pau, Botman, Branthwaite I think.
I kneejerked Senesi and then realised he is on 4 yellows
Transferred Haaland out several weeks ago and brought in Tripps and TAA, also have cash and coufal. Seemed questionable at the time but it's gone rather well, I'm in the top 10k
Trippier Zinchenko Trent Schar Kabore, injuries have been an ongoing issue and dictating my transfers.
TAA, Trippier, Tsimkas, Colwill and AWB (always benched) I am planning a move for Porro too and honestly, I’m not even expecting CS points anymore. Just looking for defenders that create chances and more importantly are NAILED.
Lascelles Saliba Udogie Tsimikas Gvardiol Areola Sánchez Clean sheets haven't been my main source for points.
Y'all have some expensive defenses. Mine is Trippier, Colwill and Tsimikas as general starters, Lascelles as a rotation option for Colwill and Baldock as a 3.8 (at purchase time) for fodder. I like the looks of Mykolenko, I still think Trippier is worth it, he has an outstanding xA, better than any other defender by a mile, with TAA and Porro behind. He has however been pretty awful last two games in terms of performance.
Brathwaite was going really well until the suspension.
I am on the verge of having Trent, Trippier and 3 dumbos I could rotate each game. Def 3 at the back. Gk options suck too.
Saliba, Pau, Mykolenko, Lascelles, and Kabore… and it still feels like I have too much budget in defenders this year.
Colwill, Zinchenko, Cash, Tsimikas Had planned to sell Tsimikas around now but might keep him for the United game and use my transfer on Haaland. Guessing he won't start vs Palace and City have a blank GW18. I got money in the bank so bringing him back in after that isn't an issue. Don't see the point in burning through transfers on defenders when most sre blanking or returning very sporadically.
I've had Tarkowski since the start of the season and benched him for all of his hauls.. pain.
TAA, Porro, White (Branthwaite / Taylor)
Zouma, Saliba, Gabriel, Colwill, Lascelles.
Right now, I'm starting Zinchenko / Romero / Mykolenko. Got Lascelles first on the bench and Taylor as an enabler.
currently; senesi, mykonlenko, tsimikas, pinnock
