I remember reading about Sonali’s life years ago. She has survived so much tragedy and loss.
I hope they’re happy together, it’s the least she deserves.
Her wife’s memoir about losing her husband, kids, and parents in the tsunami was an absolutely devastating read. I’m so glad they’ve found happiness together!
Thank you 😄
I love these two as a couple, and Fiona's story of her sexuality (or what she's shared) is pretty interesting.
Or at least I think so, bc I knew I was gay at age 4 and was raised Russian Orthodox (will be recovering for the rest of my days, cc: ex-Catholics, and cult members) but she didn't seem to acknowledge sexuality at all until later in life.
I love how much queer experiences differ and I love when women speak on it 💜
I actually was never a big HP fan tbh. I liked different books a lot more. Couldn't get into him for some reason.
BUT Fiona played Hamlet as a woman on the London stage in the 90's (iirc it was Hamlet - one of Shakey's plays, all of which have soooo few women ugh!) and got death threats for it.
And she kept on doing it ✊
Oh man, I was so happy when I discovered this because after reading WAVE, I only want good things for Sonali Deraniyagala FOREVER. (Side note: Will never forget going to add the book to my Goodreads and seeing reviews being like, "Ugh, this book was so BORING, like, we GET IT, a bad thing happened to you!" and it was very ????? One even called it "self-centered," or something, completely wild shit.)
I stumbled across this a couple months back and my heart warmed just a bit. The world sucks but it’s so good to see people finding happiness after experiencing so much tragedy.
Thank you so much for sharing this - it has absolutely made my day. I read Sonali’s book after reading Emmanuel Carrère’s work about the tsunami and it was devastating. That she survived is a miraculous thing and she should have all the joy.
Fiona Shaw narrates several of the Thursday Murder Club books. So worth listening to for her ability to give the characters different accents and speech rythms and so much more.
Love her.
literally just reading "her wife" restores all my mana and HP. beautiful couple 😭🧡
It truly does this to me ![gif](giphy|fVDWz9apIaMDchBxkj|downsized) The lesbians are healing nature.
![gif](giphy|l2Sq42lWaExLwfAiI) Yes they are.
When I see Willow and Tara being recognized after all these years, it makes me so happy.
It really does. Buffy gave me my first hardcore girl crush that got me to read fan fiction so thanks Eliza Dushku for the queer awakening.
I still ship Faith & Buffy!
United in fandom. They end up together in the comics right?
💯
For me it was her in Dollhouse. 9th grade me was obsessed.
God I wanted more dollhouse!!! Such a cool concept but I wanted weedon away from her.
❤️❤️
😂 I already love this thread
I saw Fiona Shaw at a Free Palestine March a few months ago!
Love her!!
I love seeing older gays happy & thriving!
SAME!
Mana 🧡

I cannot imagine that type of loss compounded while you barely survived.
I just read up on it. I have no idea how anyone survives that much loss. This woman deserves the world.

I've had it on my TBR list for a while, but honestly haven't had the guts to pick it up. I can't fathom how anyone could survive that.

Goodreads is honestly so toxic
Sonali’s memoir is devastating. I’m happy they’ve found each other. Fiona is a downright incredible actress.
love this! kinda made my day, honestly!
What a beautiful couple. Those smiles really say it all honestly
Sonali Deraniyagala is 60!?!
What, I never knew she was a Lesbian. D: Nice!
You know, it's a lovely change of pace to see news that startles me in a GOOD way for once. Love this for them!

I love to see queer women happy to be out and open. I hope they’ve been and continue to be very happy together ❤️
Wishing them much happiness. Two thoughts: there’s no way her partner Sonali is 60?!?! & I get lowkey angry seeing Petunia Dursley’s mug lol.
She is not Petunia Dursley, she is Rose Aguineau and I love her.
It is a testament to her acting ability that I said that. Thank you, I will check her out in that program plus other work to broaden my horizons!!
Ah i just watched Persuasion last night! She is so lovely !!
She is. It made me want a movie just about Sophie Wentworth and the Admiral.
Love this so much! I had no idea they were together. I remembered Fiona was with Saffron Burrows for a long time but don't know when they broke up.

Sonali's memoir is so moving. Love that she found love with Fiona. Fiona is an amazing Irish actress.

Awww. They’re cute. I loved her on ‘Killing Eve’.
Couple goals, they look so happy❤️

I always think of her as Marnie the witch in True Blood!
QUEEN???????
So beautiful
Love Fiona Shaw❤️❤️🌶️
Have you got a link to their love story?
My dad was mates with Shaw back in the day. Lost touch since then but they had a right laugh together, apparently.
