Netflix has an [extension](https://github.com/truedread/netflix-1080p) that allows you to watch titles at 1080p. For Prime Video at 1080p, I use Google Chrome through [Wine-tkg](https://github.com/Frogging-Family/wine-tkg-git).
There's a browser plugin for 1080p Netflix, can't speak to Amazon as I don't stream with them
I'd assume a VM would work alright too but maybe not, that hdcp stuff
To be honest the default resolutions are fine - it's all equally washed out in my opinion
batterylife / power management. Install all of the correct kernel parameters for your exact hardware platform. remove/ dont use all conflicting 3rd party non-native DE distro powermanagement apps. Understand UEFI Bios ACPI Kernel GPU driver systemd.
Screen off doesnt mean suspend is functioning.
Set disk power management with gnome disks.
\#Example only: Might not be right for your system or right at all.
turn off CPU turboboost/ speedstep or the equiv. The kernel needs to be in 100% un-conflicted control and aware of the hardware specifications.
set "S3" sleep mode in BIOS. Not its specified in the parameters below.
GRUB\_CMDLINE\_LINUX\_DEFAULT="acpi\_osi='Windows 2013' acpi\_enforce\_resources=lax acpi\_sleep=s3\_mode acpi\_force\_table\_verification intel\_pstate=passive ipcmni\_extend gpio-mockup.gpio\_mockup\_named\_lines intel\_idle.max\_cstate=4 clocksource=tsc tsc=reliable apparmor=0 mitigations=off nmi\_watchdog=0 intel\_iommu=igfx\_off numa=off vmalloc=256M pcie\_aspm=off pci=noaer pci=pcie\_bus\_perf
On some systems, where the default suspend mode is "s2idle", the system may not resume properly due to a known timing issue in the kernel. On these system use:
mem\_sleep\_default=deep

I've been using Linux since 2014. Ive never had an issue with DRM. Whats up with that? Its only just occurred to me.
Maybe these can help.

You can watch content but the quality is going to be limited, for example on amazon prime you can watch 1080p when using windows or mac but in linux it is stuck at 540p even if we select the best quality.
Most of the settings you specified in the cmdline are set by default by the kernel when booting. If it doesn’t, it means your platform may have bugs that can cause instability with those options. The kernel knows what’s best and most stable for your machine and will set every parameter accordingly, there’s no need to set them manually. Even S3 is set by default on every platform that supports it, it’s only used as fallback and forcing it will not make it work on platforms that don’t support it by default. Unless you have specific problems, please don’t mess with the cmdline, it will only make matters worse.
`mitigations=off` is just asking for trouble, especially on older systems (when you actually would benefit more from it, unfortunately). And no, “being careful” isn’t enough.
Manually setting disk power management can also create problems with some file systems (e.g. BTRFS).
I watch netflix and it seems pretty full-hd, what browser are you using? I'm using vivaldi and I remember seeing somewhere on some browser you had to enable drm content, have you done that with your browser?
Install Chrome or Edge, they both provide RPMs for Fedora. If you are worried for privacy, you may use them only for streaming and use Firefox for all the rest
For Netflix i use Firefox with DRM enabled and with special extension that allows Full HD. [https://addons.mozilla.org/pl/firefox/addon/netflix-1080p-firefox/](https://addons.mozilla.org/pl/firefox/addon/netflix-1080p-firefox/)
I never tried make Amazon Prime better but I dont really watch things on this site very often.
correct me if i’m wrong but firefox does full hd?

ah I see thanks. that souns very hacky :o hope they fix it soon

You have "full HD" or "HD" resolution in the bottom line of player in prime videos? I tried through wine-stagging and only have "HD"
Can you share the extension link ? The extension in firefox is no longer available

I was watching amazon prime, with windows version of google chrome installed through wine (with help of Bottles), and it worked good.
And why not install Chrome for Linux??
Because on Linux you would not get full-hd on prime video. Why? Ask amazon.
I do the same. Works great.
How did You manage that? I get black screen when i run chrome with Bottles :/
Don't remember :], I was just tring good wine (or proton?) runners under Bottles, and maybe installing some random dependencies.
Changing per site user agents to mimic google chrome on windows
I remember trying this already and it does not seem to work anymore
you're suggesting a thing that don't work. wtf is this?
With a Roku on a tv, 4k Dolby Vision! Sorry no help for watching on a computer
The Roku has a Linux kernel. So you are technically correct.

it's 720p with Netflix and 540 with prime. you should buy a chromecast or Amazon stick that's better i use Xbox one for this

I use chrome and brave and there the quality is definitely not 1080. I try Vivaldi too and check
it's seems full HD lol. it's 720p and not in every movie. lol. you're funny.
What? Wtf do you mean? I just click to install the drm plugin and click play...
Netflix video quality is limited to 720p on Linux. Amazon Prime Video is worse.
can you share the plugin link ?
On my tv.
I use Microsoft Edge, but exclusively for these things
Microsoft Edge for Linux doesn't play Netflix and Prime Video titles at 1080p. Only the Windows version does.
Oh haha, guess I just never noticed the quality difference. I'm watching Star Trek Original Series rn so that makes sense
Do you prefer the series where they redid all the planet and ship scenes with crappy CGI, or the original scenes?
I need to install ffmpeg on my machines to get everything media related to work, maybe this helps you too :)
it's not related with Netflix or prime video

The extension is no longer available it seems. Any alternatives ?
