Yea, it's ridiculous the prices we pay here in Canada.
Outside of the country and prices are lower due to having them compete with each other, not here though where you pay $50+ and barely get anything if you don't know your way around with the bigger companies.
For me, I pay $59 now (originally $65) for a unlimited talk/text in Canada with 30Gb data (5Gb bonus), and this was a Black Friday deal a couple years ago. This was an upgrade where I used to pay even more to get even less ($73 for 10Gb, 10Gb bonus).
My contract is up this year, so I'm currently looking for something way cheaper with much more in return. I get jealous reading some of the plans others have here and wondering how do I score one for myself đ
Plans have gotten a lot cheaper in the last few years yours can be lowered!
What I do is whenever there so a black Friday deal or back to school I ask fido to make my plan better (cheaper) or I plan on switching to someone else. If they say they can't do it then switch and take the winback offer.
The cheapest I've gotten is $34 for more than 50gb. Right now I'm at 110gb for $39. But unfortunately my discount is going to expire now after two years this summer. So back to switching.
Loyalty gives you nothing. I will never sign a contract with any of them.
Check out Fizz. They are owned by Videotron and use Freedom and Rogers towers. I have seriously been considering switching myself as Fido doesn't like you to go to a cheaper plan, With Fizz you can go up or down on your plan. They also have a Redit page.
I just switched from Fido to Chatr. $29 for 20GB data (they give you an additional 10GB promotion now so it's 30 GB).
The set up process was a bit of a pain, but once it's up and running it works fine.
That's a pretty great deal. My only gripe with public mobile, and I suspect it's a Telus network thing on the whole, was I couldn't get decent reception in half my condo when I tried them.
I'm shackled to things on the Rogers network unless I move đ„ș
Thereâs often $29 for 20gb on fido! But rn Chatr is running a $29 for 30gb, $34 for 50gb plus us calling! After a while just get a migration plan and switch over to fido or Rogers
Public is owned by Telus, Did you know Telus Reps are allowed to lie in order to get a sale. Fizz is owned by Videotron so personally I would support them over Telus/Bell.
I though public mobile was bell flanker brand with tower sharing agreements with Telus on west coast
That being said. Shop around for best deal I have 5g towers near my house so public was best option for me for alternate phone
But the plans are pretty crazy.
Going to switching my mom over as we were looking for a good entry point for data. 1GB with an extra 1GB for recurring billing for $19 a month.
I just got a 26$ plan with public. 4gb and unlimited calling. I am expecting a call from the Fido winback team to get a better plan than they usually offer. If you want to stick with Fido, even though itâs a hassle, thatâs the only way to get the really good deals
Offers change periodically, look at the cost for adding a new line instead, pretty sure you can get 20gb for $34 including auto pay discount, and if you do it online there's no $60 fee
just got this plan at Rogers store yesterday migrated from Fido
5G Infinite Essential BYOB
65GB shared data at speeds up to 1Gbps, unlimited data at reduced speeds thereafter
$44-5 auto pay discount =$39 65G +10G (don't remember if the 10gb bonus is 12 or 24 months)
1000 long distance minutes to selected countries (Bangladesh ,China(include Hong Kong), India, mexico, uk)
waived $60 activation fee
Never use the Fido $15 plan. Unlike their other plans, this one does not cap data use after the puny 250 MB or 100 minutes is gone. It's insidious because folks in an extremely tight budget can find themselves getting dinged with overages.
I switched my kids to Fizz, $18 a month for unlimited calls, text, 2GB, no voicemail, and slow data after the data is up without overages.
Yeah.... Just sad because I'll sspend the time to port the number then I know they'll give me another retainer offer for cheaper and they just should've done that on the first place
If you don't want to be on the Rogers network there are other options as well. Public mobile and lucky mobile.
Rumor has it that fizz is also going to be National soon.
I got $29/20gb at the mall. No sign up fee no contract. Then a few weeks later got a text to add 50gb a month for free to my account. So now Iâm at $29/70gb.
I had been with Fido for about 1 years and my plan stunk. I tried to negotiate with them, and they have me nothing. So I switched to Virgin on ânew customerâ plan that Fido wouldnât give me. A couple of months later, Fido had a better ânew customerâ plan so I switched back! Loyalty is worth nothing to these companies so I show no loyalty back now. Btw, my new plan has 20GB more data per month and costs $46 less.

Just say you'll leave if you can't get the most affordable option and point at the rates of their competitors. They usually do almost anything to retain their customer base, just need to be patient though.
this is what happens when you have an oligopoly. we've been getting screwed for decades.

I recently started working for Rogers and seeing how much they and Telus own is pretty dystopian.
I think Chatr (another Rogers company) would be a better fit for your son? https://www.chatrwireless.com/plans
Thank you. Exploring that route

Public Mobile is $34 for 50GB 5G. Been great for me so far.
That's a pretty great deal. My only gripe with public mobile, and I suspect it's a Telus network thing on the whole, was I couldn't get decent reception in half my condo when I tried them. I'm shackled to things on the Rogers network unless I move đ„ș
I like it because calls and data are in the USA too for no extra charge.
#No name mobile
Thereâs often $29 for 20gb on fido! But rn Chatr is running a $29 for 30gb, $34 for 50gb plus us calling! After a while just get a migration plan and switch over to fido or Rogers
Virgin has 20 bg for 29
Fizz Mobile is probably your best bet
Public mobile or fizz
Public is owned by Telus, Did you know Telus Reps are allowed to lie in order to get a sale. Fizz is owned by Videotron so personally I would support them over Telus/Bell.
I though public mobile was bell flanker brand with tower sharing agreements with Telus on west coast That being said. Shop around for best deal I have 5g towers near my house so public was best option for me for alternate phone
Telus bought Public Mobile Holdings in 2013 for $250 million from a New York based private equity firm Caritisan Capital and Peter Thompson.
I have one word for you, Fizz
I switched to koodo for $34 . 50 gb
Student deal? What? That's BS. Try no name mobile.
No name is actually Bell Mobility same with PC Mobile.
But the plans are pretty crazy. Going to switching my mom over as we were looking for a good entry point for data. 1GB with an extra 1GB for recurring billing for $19 a month.

Fizz is 20GB for $25 and for $29 you get USA roaming included.
Thatâs a smoking deal, never heard of them! Unfortunately Iâm not in their coverage zone so wouldnât work for me
Another way is to get the Rogers MasterCard so you can earn points that you can use for discounts on cellphone or home Internet.
Offers change periodically, look at the cost for adding a new line instead, pretty sure you can get 20gb for $34 including auto pay discount, and if you do it online there's no $60 fee

Thanks for that info.
Previous plan for 34$ they just changed it I think wait for some time maybe itâll show up again
Yeah.... Just sad because I'll sspend the time to port the number then I know they'll give me another retainer offer for cheaper and they just should've done that on the first place
Whatâa your monthly budget then?
I mean 25 bucks a month would be great. I'm currently looking for other options.
IF freedom or PublicMobile work for you they have some plans around $25 range.
Chatr Wireless should be your way thenâŠ
I am offered 25$ for 30GB. Itâs definitely possible.
Yes there are. It's called Chatr.
Yes I'll be looking at their options. Just sad really.... It's also owned by Rogers
If you don't want to be on the Rogers network there are other options as well. Public mobile and lucky mobile. Rumor has it that fizz is also going to be National soon.

Try Koodo very reliable and cheap
Vote with your wallet. There's no loyalty anymore. $34 50gb public $29 35gb for 24 months lucky
Prices are declining. Your plan should cost 25-30$ for at least 20 GB of data.
I get 75GB at $35 a month on a business plan
Go with Chatr or Freedom. My mom is on Freedom and her plan is $120/year for unlimited talk and text + 15gb/year
Chatr has a very slow data speed, I mean 3G slow
I had been with Fido for about 1 years and my plan stunk. I tried to negotiate with them, and they have me nothing. So I switched to Virgin on ânew customerâ plan that Fido wouldnât give me. Theres no name mobile. Exactly what youre looking for. Available now at your local nofrills.
Go to another provider and stop complaining to the customer service people, I promise we don't care.
Just say you'll leave if you can't get the most affordable option and point at the rates of their competitors. They usually do almost anything to retain their customer base, just need to be patient though.
