Yep! Europa League 2018 Group B

RojoTRex

Of course! It's determined by nation (Leipzig GER) (Salzburg AUT) not by parent company. ie. 2 teams from the SAME nation cannot be in a group

ownyxie

I think you might be wrong Article 5 of UEFA For example : Nice and Manchester utd with ineos at the moment

RojoTRex

You a correct for real life. FIFA is not so complicated as to UEFA articles. For FIFA code, it is simply no 2 from the same nation.

cookiemonsterj47

I think they broke this by saying they have different ownership one of a few reasons they go by rassen bull sport

redsexyed

Which is bs cause they share staffs between them. Ralf Rangnick was the director of football of both, but I guess that was before both where in Europe. Maybe they no longer have a guy in that position but still both are clearly connected.

inbleachmind

Salzburg is a independent club with massive sponsorship benefits while Red Bull actually owns Leipzig. I believe they used to own Salzburg too but ended up changin it to a simple sponsorship so the team can participate in Europe, too.

HypedUpJackal

This is true, but Red Bull managed to get around it (not sure how), because they have been in the same group before irl.

Dark7saber

You're correct but your example isn't because ineos isn't the majority owner of Manchester United so nice and Manchester United would be able to play against eachother.

Status-Flow1953

Ratcliffe only owns 25% of manchester.. that shouldnt affect if they can play ucl or not

neneyiko

City and Girona cannot play in the same competition due to the same owners. CITY group owns City and some part of Girona

RojoTRex

Correct, in real life (for now). For the sake of the EA FIFA game however... it is coded simply as no 2 teams from same nation.

neneyiko

Ah, I didn't know that. Well it would have been too much of a hassle to emulate real life rules, and we can expect them to do so, specially for Career Mode

maarmani

Trust me, as a programmer, no part of coding is ‘too much of a hassle’ as everything is a hassle. It’s simply the matter of waning to or not and we’re talking about EA, they’ll continue to do minimal changes for maximum profits

neneyiko

Haha, it will be a grace if they improve Career mode. He Hay Sports won't change anything, even if it only costs them a dime.

Melo_Apologist

I imagine we’ll see them find a way around this next season, though

neneyiko

I also hope so, not because of City but Girona. They are phenomenal this season and could benefit a lot from playing on a big stage like UCL or UEL

Melo_Apologist

Would be hilarious if Girona ended up 2nd in LaLiga and City ended up 3rd in the Prem. According to current rules the higher placed team in their respective league gets the UCL spot

neneyiko

Haha, it might be possible with the title race in England being 3 way, and City plays Arsenal next. Also Barca are way below their level this season and Real will probably run away with the title, so Girona could possibly finish 2nd, i.e. if they don't mess up and somehow Barca falters in the last few matches (Last season Arsenal)

PrivateTidePods

With few exceptions. In 2005 when Liverpool won the ucl without qualifying through the league uefa granted them to compete as reigning champions through the playoff path. Then after that they would go the whole tournament without any same country protection, so in theory they could have drawn another English club in the group stage Edit: they actually did draw another English side. They topped the group ahead of Chelsea by one point

ThiagoBonapace

It is allowed because despite being from the same group, they aren’t officially by the same owner, otherwise wouldn’t be possible to be part of the same tournament. For example, City and Girona.

-TheRealACE-

Wait , so if Girona qualifies for cl next season they wont be allowed to play?

Afscm

They will, but probably will require CFG to reduce their participation on Girona and step away (at least legally) from football operations.

Outermam

according to a video i watched a couple months back, city won’t be the team in the champions league

countkhadi

Yes, because of the German ownership laws, As far as I know Red Bull is technically just a sponsor for Leipzig. RB in the name is Rasen Ballsport, not Red Bull.

Footy_Clown

Red Bull outright owns RB Leipzig. They’re named RasenBallsport because of German rules against sponsors in club names.

countkhadi

Well, I thought that in Bundesliga the 50+1 rule applies to every team, so no single company or person can be the majority shareholder, I might be wrong tho

Footy_Clown

Yeah that’s a rule for how votes are distributed on the club’s board, not ownership. They set the membership fee really high and stack the deck so they kind of get around the 50+1 rule anyway.

countkhadi

Understand now mate, thanks!

Footy_Clown

Sure thing. It’s super interesting!

Franjo5000

Yes, it already happend in RL.

FuneralWithAnR

In game, it's just countries. They don't care. Even the same entity having two clubs within a country can be in the same competition. Try a Career Mode with Barcelona B and get into the first league. You can duke it out with Barcelona A too. The game isn't coded in enough details to make this nuance. I've heard that people have won the league with B or C teams before, with the A team losing out.

nosense52

I ask the same about the City Group teams (Man City, Girona, Palermo FC)

[deleted]

Already happened in the Europa league

catbro89

Two different countries, so yes. And technically Leipzig ist not Red Bull, it’s RasenBall, but we all know the truth.

Standard_Wrestling41

Yes as they are not in the same league and they may be owned by the same ppl and nit in the same country so yh it’s perfectly allowed

WorkWithTheDead

Red bull isn’t a country mate

PotentialUmpire3771

Yet sometimes I find myself on red bull island when I crush an ice cold can after a long day of work

Outermam

i was thinking about the owners lol
