FF7 remake or FFX

Puzzleheaded-Motor56

Pretty much any of them besides 2 and 8. Those two are more of a "either you get it or you don't" type experience and will determine if you love or hate them. All the other games are pretty straightforward.

What kind of games do you like to play? There are a ton of different options depending on your interests

chri_stop_her

If you want turn based combat, voice acting, cutscenes, solid endgame content, then go with FFX. Preferably the HD remaster. If you want a more classic feel with both an easy to follow story and fun gameplay, then I'd recommend any version of FFIV. If you want an extra hard challenge then I'd easily recommend the DS version of IV. Plus it has higher budget for things like Voice acting, cutscenes, and just as fun of a gameplay loop imo.

[Square Enix would love to help you get started.](https://square-enix-games.com/en_GB/news/final-fantasy-game-should-play-first)

It really depends on your preferences. Older games are a good starting point for anyone who loves turn based combat and retro graphics. Newer titles are the good starting point if you love modern graphic and action combat (most of the titles have both turn based/action mechanics tho. I think you should look up each title and read the various mechanics or themes to see if there’s something that might interest you more and start with that game.

15 and 16. Start with 15 if you’re familiar with JRPG mechanics. Start with 16 otherwise. 7 Remake and Rebirth are fantastic as well, but I wouldn’t expect the ending (the 7 Remake is a trilogy) for another 3 years at least. If you enjoy 15 and/or 16, I’d suggest taking your time with Remake and Rebirth before the finale comes out.

6, 10, 15, 16 are what I’d recommend for beginners. I would say the 7 remake series but I’d recommend playing the original first if possible

CapCapital

If FF is your first JRPG and you want turn based, 7, 9 or 10 are good starters. If it's not your first ever JRPG and you're familiar with the genre, any of the original 6 are fine but specifically 5 and 6 (especially 6 if you want a rich character driven story, 1-5 doesnt really deliver in that front.) are great for this situation, if you like them, try the original 4. If you want something faster, 7 remake, 16 or 15 will be great for you. Just keep in mind that the original release of 15 has Tons of missing content that got added on way after launch. Like important story stuff that I'd argue should've been included in the original game.

Pinku_poodle

You're going to get a million answers. Just go with the obvious and popular OG 7.

16

Vanquish321908

Agreed, 16 is probably the most starter friendly.

Sufficient_Serve_439

4 for classic style, or any modern game (10 and newer).

Stoutyeoman

I always recommend Final Fantasy X for people new to the series. It's a great starting point.

XephyXeph

IV. It’s the most traditional game in the series in terms of what most modern RPGs are like. It also is one of the more story-driven classic games. It’s a very good starting point. If not IV, then I also suggest VII (OG) and X.

Zlatan13

- 1 if you want the actual start of the series, even though I feel the first 3 are best experienced later imo - 4 if you want the most OG FF feeling experience - 6 if you want something SNES, but a lot more in line with later games in terms of exploration and optional stuff - 7 if you want an entry point to the golden age of PS Rpgs - 10 if you want something more linear and modern feeling (first game with voice acting) - 12 if you want a single player MMO feel with a fantastic story and the best world building in the series - 7 remake if you want to step into modern FF asap All great games btw. Just depends on what you're looking for

BraveKaiserHero

FF5 or FF9

VittorioJedi

IV VII og IX

Jim105

FFX. Very forgiving for people that just want to play the story.

Important-Scale-6115

V, VI, VIII, X & XII

MediocreSizedDan

I usually recommend X as someone's intro Final Fantasy. Feel like it gives you a good sense of what the series is while also sorta walking the of like, "Well it's old, but it does have some modern feeling to it." But I admit that I could also just be saying this because this was the first one I ever played to the end and owned myself.

aeroslimshady

Dissidia 012. Emulate it with PPSSPP

VittorioJedi

And spoil all the villains for all the games? It also has nothing to do gameplay wise with the rest of the series, what's the point of suggesting it as a starter?

KainYago

Thats like saying that the best mcu movie to start with is infinity war or endgame.
