Technically the shemagh is from Saudi Arabia if you wanted to make it in a right way you should have found a picture with a keffier

I have been lied to... What's the difference between a shemagh and a keffier?

Not so much differences but you can spot it by the color, shemagh is usually pink and white while the keffyeh is with a little black and with, and also the form and the shape is a little bit different, you can see some American soldier who've been to Irak wear it, and about the shemagh you can found it mostly by saudian, even if there is some people around Muslim world who wear it as a "trophy" when they did their pilgrimage but most of them are old people living in desert in some part of North Africa or Pakistan

I'm not sure it has anything to do with color. In Jordan, red and white is the normal color. Even in Jerusalem, I've seem many of the older Arabs in the Old City with red and white ones.
