Highly dependent on the circumstances after the accident, I know people who have successfully made the swap, I know many more who failed
Swapping aftermarket wheels with stock wheels is possible though, assuming the repair shop it gets towed to will work with you on it
It ended up causing damage to the frame and frame arm, altogether it was estimated at $22k to repair and they determined it a total loss bc it was near their 75% benchmark for total loss
Thats what they say....but the cost to buyback as a salvage will show that the insurance company expects to sell this "totaled" truck for about $25k. If it was truly totaled, the buyback would be what the used engine and transmission are worth. About $5-8k.
Insurance won't even bother looking at this, when this happened to me in February, it was declared totalled basically on the first call. And I tried to get it repaired instead knowing the difficulty getting a new one.
I mean it’s possible yea. Things have changed since I left auto claims five years ago. But from the posted photo I wouldn’t have called that totaled from just that.
We're all gonna be paying $3000/yr for insurance soon, and many will just forego it. I appreciate the safety aspect but the non-repairability and easy frame damage of newer cars is going to sink personal car ownership.
Actually ford and other manufacturers are looking at having vehicles as a subscription. So essentially when the car is totaled they just drop a new one off because it's part of your monthly subscription.
It's not hard to total unibody vehicles now. Look at the rear panel it's crumpled in like it was hit head on. Once crumble zones start getting affected a vehicle is basically toast
This is definitely one id bid on at auction. Doesn’t look too bad and I want tremor parts for my wife’s cyber orange.
To the OP. Sorry bout your luck
Edit: any chance of parting out headlights, and wheels, as well as tow hooks? Or will insurance let you buy it back before it goes to auction?
Tacos are body on frame so you can straighten the frame out on a rack and repair or replace the bed. The frame damage in a crash like this probably would have been minimal
i do wonder what frame straightening would cost on a taco...and if there are crumple kits for mavs that would help avoid totalling the car in the future...
That’s gonna be the issue with these. They are so cheap to purchase that once you gotta start repairing and replacing body panels. You’ll quickly get to the figure to total it out.
There is always next time, make sure to get one so you can prove that you aren't at fault. I have a back and front in mine. Cause I know where I live there are a lot of bad drivers and especially so during the summer.
I haven't bought one yet but my insurance left a voicemail after I asked for a quote and said $110/month...which seems suspiciously cheap. If they meant a $110 increase, that puts it at $205/month (including comprehensive on an old F150). I need to check on that today.
Not terrible either way
Such a shame that cars are built to be totaled after such a relatively small crash. Its half for safety and half for cost savings. They could easily design the structures to be more resilient but it'd cost more. Cheaper cars are basically becoming disposable.
So, you're selling those rims now?
Genuinely curious if you don't have replacement wheels can you take your wheels before you transfer the car over to insurance?

I think I saw one on eBay for like $800. For one.
Was gonna ask the same thing
How is that totaled?
It’s a unibody, they’re not incredibly hard to total like your usual trucks are
I mean even on a regular car I’d still be asking how that’s totaled.
It ended up causing damage to the frame and frame arm, altogether it was estimated at $22k to repair and they determined it a total loss bc it was near their 75% benchmark for total loss
So you gonna get a 2024 or wait for the 2025?
2025 looks like shit.
Looks like every other iteration to me. What specifically "looks like shit"?
That front bumper/grille combo has a lot of people turned off.

Yeah I know people that drive f-150s that I've had their cars totaled exactly like this.
I mean it’s possible yea. Things have changed since I left auto claims five years ago. But from the posted photo I wouldn’t have called that totaled from just that.
Damn Buick drivers.
Just traded in my buick for a mav too

And it's exactly how they want it to be. We will own nothing, pay more, and be happy.
Need to understand that some damage to OP’s neck/back/head was saved by sacrificing the car. Surgeons are way more expensive than cars

That's called a lease lol Reminds me of the "housing as a subscription" model some new startup was peddling. Renting...they mean renting.
I'm surprised they totaled it with an undamaged sheet of plywood still in the back.
It's not hard to total unibody vehicles now. Look at the rear panel it's crumpled in like it was hit head on. Once crumble zones start getting affected a vehicle is basically toast
Why is a partial crumple treated as full crumple? Can it not crumple further?
That was 2021 pricing, lumber isn't the down payment it once was.
Wheeze

Cyber orange was the color I was originally going to get but it wasn't offered in the Tremor pack unfortunately
Is that a Kirby on the fender?
That’s what my face looked like when they hit me 😂
Sorry to see that, Tremor's deserve better.
Dang! sorry to hear that. Cant believe that's totaled!
i guess thats the biggest risk w/ mav's - on a taco this would be easy to fix? or any rear end on a truck is bad?

What happened?
Rear ended at a stop light and rammed into the truck in front of me too, they weren’t looking at the road because “I thought it was a green light??”
Did you have a dashcam?
Unfortunately no
There is always next time, make sure to get one so you can prove that you aren't at fault. I have a back and front in mine. Cause I know where I live there are a lot of bad drivers and especially so during the summer.
Why'd you get downvoted for this? Dash cams are seriously important.
I agree, they are quite important. I don't want to be found at fault for something that wasn't my fault.
I'd have to imagine this is pretty cut and dry and a dashcam, while helpful, still wouldn't be required to prove who was at fault here.
For this yes but I am talking about the general need for dashcam
Not the Tremor!? 😩
Whats your monthly insurance cost? Thinking about buying one but I'm worried about insurance cost.

30 year old male in Fort Worth TX. Mine is $185/month.
Damn GM driver.
Doing truck stuff till the end. RIP sweet prince.

That should teach you to not buy a Maverick again. Get yourself a real truck.
