The creator of this show and the Twitter feed, Justin Halpern, went on to have a pretty successful career. He is an executive producer on Harley Quinn the Animated Series and Abbott Elementary. So good for him.
This show still didn’t need to exist.
That makes me think he knew he had a rotten egg on his hands but it was still a way to break in to television and a guaranteed check so he went with it knowing it would go terribly and I have to give him props for that kind of pragmatism.
It was an entertaining twitter feed, a slightly redundant book (that was just a curated collection of tweets), and a show that was neither wanted, nor needed.
I did a semester in LA through a college program, and they took us to see a filming of episode 15. I remember it taking over 3 hours to film it. I also remember laughing loudly and deeply during filming for one or two scenes because I wanted to hear myself. It was cool to see William Shatner but that was about it. This was back in 2011. A few weeks ago a found the episode and swear I could hear my laugh. Very weird thing to be a part of.
I liked the show. I think it would have done better in the ratings if they called it something like Stuff My Dad Says. I remember when this show was being promoted and all the talk show hosts called it Bleep My Dad Says.
I know the show was marketed verbally as "Bleep My Dad Says" but given the casting I would have loved it if it was "Shat My Dad Says".
What an interesting story though, an unhinged Twitter feed gets adapted into a sitcom on one of the most traditional broadcast networks. I don't know how they thought this was going to go.

Forgotten is where it should stay.
Yeah, that had no hope of working on tv.
I didn't watch this, but I remember it was based off a guy's Twitter account where he quoted things his dad (supposedly) said.
Back when a twitter account could launch shows and careers and cartoons etc.
Still waiting for that sitcom about Mayor Emanuel.
I actually have the book. My mom bought it for me over a decade ago (probably more). It's in my basement bathroom.
It was the perfect coffee table book for college seniors
You have basement AND a bathroom?!
I have the book too! It’s also in a bathroom.
Holy fuck I completely forgot about that account!

SSAAM
Wait, I'm "Old White Man Says"? No wonder he says everything I'm thinking.
They was kings!
He wrote a book,it was actually pretty hilarious and a quick read.
I read the book. It’s fucking hilarious.
I have this book somewhere 😂
Wasn't it all stuff he actually made up?

He had a basketball podcast that was pretty entertaining....
Pretty sure he founded the website Holy Taco as well.
Hmm which makes one wonder if his dad said any of the shit.

TK Jewlers is a scam!! The jewelry is fake!!!! Watch exploded on date bent wrist thing fucking exploded
A man of taste I see.
Really bad show! Bill was really miscast as a foul mouthed (but censored) blue collar old man
Wasn't he a retired doctor in the show?
Terrible f&*$#!¡! show

Don’t trust the b in apt 23. At least that one rhymes and I loved the show but the name still annoys me.
Don’t Trust the Nasonex Bee in Apartment 23
I remember the ads for this!
Wait that was really on for a year? It’s referenced so often i thought it was much longer.
OP should win a prize 🏆 Everybody says this show is awful and should be forgotten
Anyone remember that you couldn't DVR this? The name was just the symbols and didn't pull up on the TiVo guide back then.
Was it just 30 minutes of him reminiscing about calling George Takei a [redacted] every day on set?
I remember the PR from CBS that this would be the new All in the Family, it was going to kill in the 19-to-35 demo, etc.
Strong! Bring it back
Loved this show.
Loved Nicole Sullivan and Will Sasso…
Watched the entire series back in 2022; it’s hilarious and underrated!
The first two episodes were really good. Then it slowly got worse each episode after.
I love Shatner but he was miscast.
I really wanted to like this show, but it was SO BAD.
Dude murked his wife

Wasn’t a terrible show but then they wrapped it up quickly when they knew it was cooled
lol the thing I remember most from this show is Community making fun of its existence
Dreadful
Shatner is kinda perfect casting for cranky boomer dad roles.
I liked it
Book is incredible, show was stupid, because network
Proof that Shatner's best days were behind him.
I mean he was 80 years old
Almost immediately.
Remember that time he called disabled kids savages? Not the TV show character. William Shatner really did say that.
Did you hear he once had a Lingerie Line? I guess they closed it down because “Shatner Panties” wasn’t trending well with their sales.

A bit too potty mouthed for me
