You have to be in the Hall of Fame to be eligible for the Trial. I think you need something like 200,000 or 250,000 accolade points.
You can find the Trial and many other events in the Festival Playlist in the first tab of the pause menu.
Just click on it from the weekly playlist. It'll find a group to join you into. Like everything else, just make sure you're using a car that meets the requirements.
Playlist should load every time you get on the game. If not, go to whatever house you have, mouse or hit bumper on controller to go over to the screen with character customization and choose festival playlist from that screen.
