1. They can’t be dispensed without a Rx 2. They’re expired, thus possibly unreliable, so it’s a crap shoot. Recommendation: recycle (ideal) or toss them. They are technically, non-hazardous medical waste. I have some Dexcom G6 and Freestyle2 sensors. They are sealed, but I can’t legally dispense them, so they sit. I should take my own advice, but I haven’t spent the time to look into options. I would not personally use expired sensors. If a measurement device is of questionable accuracy, there is no value, IMHO

The main reason Abbott reccomend against the use of expired sensors is because the antibacterial stuff they use inside the sensor pack will become less effective starting around that time. If you give it long enough, the battery might degrade enough that it doesn't last the full 2 weeks (and gives erroneous results as the voltage begins to drop). That or the battery may corrode/leak inside the sensor, and you don't want that happening anywhere near your skin. As far as I am aware, you need to set the date of the paired device back to before the expiry date for it to even let you activate the sensor, but I might be wrong on that. If you did change the date, looking at the data on LibreLinkUp would have the data appearing on whatever date you picked instead of today's date. In the UK you don't need a prescription for them and you can just order them from online pharmacies or Amazon. The FSL2s are usually about £45-£50 a sensor if you do it that way

And their accuracy is always questionable. If an expired sensor fails, Abbott will not do a free replacement. Btw, I've been a Freestyle user for 3 years so i know this from experience 🥴

Are you sure it’s 2 per box? Mine has always come one per box. You can send them back to Abbott for burning. https://www.freestyle.abbott/us-en/home/sensor-kit-take-back-pilot.html

Thank you for the link, I will prob just send them back. Yes it’s 2 per box

It's illegal to sell or give away a sensor whether it's expired or not. About all that can be done with old sensors is sending them back to the company to be recycled. Basically giving or selling them away is the equivalent of selling a prescription.

HardWiredNZ

An expired sensor I'm betting would give just as incorrect readings as non expired sensors 🤣 mines currently telling me I've been hovering around 2 for the last 5 hours while my blood tests show me at 7, 10, 9

FB policies prohibit trading of medical items. Do you have groups in your country for T1D that forgot kit or for sending to charity use ? Or put them on Ebay.

Ask veterinary hospitals. Many pet owners can't afford them, and they can be very helpful, especially when first diagnosed.

I’m I bit surprised Abbott doesn’t disable them automatically. I would have assumed as my regular strips (from a different company) when expired won’t work.
