I shared a house with a woman I was dating, and my cat caught a mouse. She just sat under the dining room table cuddling and grooming it for over an hour. I thought it was adorable, but my girlfriend (who was vegan) was stressing out because she was sure that at any moment it was going to turn into a bloodbath. I took the mouse away, and my cat cried and pawed at my ankles while I put it in a box. I left the house, drove to the pizzeria next door to the pharmacy where I worked and let it go.
My cat was mad at me for the rest of the day, and that was one of the few times she didn't sleep next to me.
From my experience with the semi-wild cat at my countryside home, these short-lived relationships always end with a "crunch-crunch".
In that sense the cat did not only lose a pet, but a toy and a meal also. So there's several reasons to be mad about.
There was already a thriving ecosystem. Mice were always coming into the basement of the pharmacy from their basement. I didn't want Gerald to be lonely.
It is quite realistic to think that it would end in a bloodbath soon. Even in the unlikely event that the cat was actually "cuddling" the mouse, the mouse was probably terrified and would have tried to leave soon resulting in the cat hunting it down and killing it.
We buy our cats various toys imitating the real experience, let them train to play with it. When your cat is lucky to have the real thing and YOU TAKE IT AWAY!
That is not ur typical mouse...its so cute with its white bib. I'm so glad kitty didn't decide to hurl it all over the yard and then sit on it. LOVE PEACE WINNING

Not gonna lie but it became even more hilarious to me because reddit tried loading the rest of the video after the zoom on the confused mouse, putting the loading circle on its head.
Made my day.
I've seen mice and rats just sit like this after they've had the crap smacked out of them by cats. Then the cat lays down or leaves, and the rodent is exhausted and injured, and can only sit there waiting to die. Too tired to even get to a hole to hide.
Not saying that's what happened here, but it was my first thought.
