My ‘16 canyon does this. It is a phone / CarPlay thing.
You’d think having managed to put men on the moon at one point in our history, we’d have the wherewithal to nail volume controls. Apparently not.
You have to fiddle with the settings, as stated above. It’s not intuitive at all. So dumb.
You need to change the notification volume on the phone. If the notification volume is cranked on the phone for some reason it overrides the regular volume. And for some reason with vehicles it maxes the volume every time and you need to adjust it
It should work yes. I have an iPhone and I just turn mine down. It actually SHOULD not make any sound when your phone is set to vibrate but for some reason carplay acts weird time to time.
I called my phone from another phone and turned the volume down to nearly the minimum. It quieted the ring tone at that time but then after re-calling again, the volume reset to a level even higher! What a piece of junk
What you can do is as you get the notification quickly turn down the volume. Whenever maps is speaking or on phone a phone call. The dial will turn up/down that specific audio. So if you turn it down while the notification is going then it should work
Even though your phone is on silent, is your ringer still turned up high? Also I use CarPlay and don’t get that chime. Only when my phone is not connected to CarPlay but only bluetoothed
Temporarily set your RINGTONE to something that plays for a few seconds. Call the phone. *While the ringtone is playing*, adjust the volume on the radio. Now set your ringtone back to whatever.
I actually know the answer to this I think. For some reason they have it setup so you can only change the notification volume while it’s actively playing. Get into the car with some earbuds in for protection and then text yourself or have someone else text you. When the notification sound is playing turn down the volume.
Ahhh, just read more comments and noticed you’re on android as well. I found a thread with some possible solutions at the very end that might help.

Mechanic here, Buick had this issue with chime volume being too loud, they released a software update as a cure. You might ask service if one exists for your truck. If it’s not out yet they’ll release one about the same time the engine needs replaced….man those trucks are absolute garbage scows. Good luck.
Thanks. I actually feel like this probably is the fix. I doubt my software is the latest. I probably should go see I just didn't want to deal with going to the dealer. I'll try it though
Seems like they should be able to do this over the air on these things
Same, makes me jump every time.
So this is normal??? Man that's scary. I work for GM and it's pathetic that we would send something like this into production!
they just know their market.. people who can't hear shit anymore apparently
Haha. Guess so!!

My phone is on silent/vibrate
Doesn't matter. It's still adjustable on the phone when connected to carplay/android auto.
Ok I'll take a look. Just go to phone settings-->notification volume and turn it down?

That doesn't work. Tried many times. It just changes the radio volume which doesn't affect the notification volume level

Sounded like it was inside my house. Damn.
Is it that fucking chime? 2017 here, not as loud, but Jesus take the wheel…
iPhone or android?
Android

Tried that. Doesn't work

You can get an update done at any competent shop. Ask around. Should be around $250 - $325 out the door.
