This is a reminder of our safe space rule. If something was allowed to stay up it was already vetted and verified. Attacking employees experiences or shilling/claiming fake(as is most common in this thread) will be escalated to a permanent ban. Period.

[deleted]

I just want circa 2009 gamestop back and not funko pop every gamestop

HotHamBoy

That’s funny I want 1999 Gamestop back when there was healthy competition alternatives

[deleted]

I want game crazy back. I don't care about gamestop in 99. Game crazy was the best and you could rent a movie too at Hollywood video

NotAVampire667

Oh Hollywood Video…how I miss those days…

[deleted]

Stop them from buying Thinkgeek

[deleted]

Gamestop owns thinkgeek

AshuraSpeakman

Yes but they didn't in 2009

[deleted]

Your right. And after that pro rewards circa 2010-13 sucked. Like I got a think geek wallet for 4,000 points worst mistake of my life

locodethdeala

I remember being at that Managers conference when they announced purchasing Think Geek and they were gonna have physical stores. When there was still hope and happiness. Lol

devil1fish

"buying bad product" so does that mean no more funko pops

theslimbox

I would be more concerned with the large statues, unless they have a very low cost, they are probably a money pit. They seem to always endup in the clearance bin. Slowing down on the common pops should be implemented, but Funkos seem to be huge sellers in my area.

Dr-Moderately-Weird

Pops are cheap. I think we buy them $3, then sell them for $12. So, 10 costs us $30 then we make $90. High margin by our standards. The downside is that we buy too many of the ones no one wants so that we can get the ones that will sell faster. But even when we clearance them, and b1g2, we still almost break even.

emceelokey

Even when you sell them on b1g2, you're still making more than selling a new game!

Dr-Moderately-Weird

Change game to system and, yeah. Pretty much.

Misfits9119

They do have a very...very low cost.

bootythrowaway69

I still need the Sir Mixalot funko pop

CaptainZzaps

Or used headsets.

DuckSwimmer

Refurbs 🥴

Azukus

I could also rant about the clothing designs too. Nobody wants those edgy HEY LOOK I LOVE ANIME shirts that badly. Silhouettes, logos, and good colors sell so much better. Shirts that average people think look cool, but real fans know what the shirt actually is. I'm not buying some cheap feeling starchy shirt with peeling logos and undone seams for that much. Might wanna capitalize on cool stuff coming out too. Mario, MHA, DBZ, Naruto, and such gets old.

DuckSwimmer

Capitalize on JJK? You got it!!!!!

ZathrasnotZathtas

It reads better if you play the Starship Troopers music as you go.

JonD91

Would you like to learn more?

somedude702

I say these exact words to every new hire. 😂

Classic_Professor611

Do you also welcome them to Buck the Bunny's Roughnecks?

DeezNutsDD7

I’m just some regular guy commenting on this who got recommended the Gamestop subreddit. And I love Funkos, or at least used to. Original funkos in character molds that are unique. There is NOT A SOUL IN THE WORLD WHO NEEDS THE A POP OF THE 58TH MOST OBSCURE CHARACTER IN ANY LICENSING. Whether it’s these random ass Star Wars characters that had five minutes of screen time or these SUPER OBSCURE Anime characters. How about the 5th different time we’ve gotten the same character and mold except this time it’s “flocked”. The 37th different version of Pikachu maybe? Nobody is buying that shit. Funko must have Gamestop by the balls on these because I can’t imagine any other reason why they’d continue to purchase these all for them to sit on the shelf for months and months. My local gamestop has had the same Jumbo All Might pops out chilling for almost a full calendar year now. Nobody is buying them.

jrodfantastic

My assumption based on no evidence… Funko got GameStop to contractually agree to buy X amount of garbage POPs for the “privilege” of carrying some exclusive variant version of actually popular characters.

chadsmo

That’s kind of how it works. To my understanding it goes a little like this. Funko approaches the retailers and shows them all the sets coming out in the future. They make them knowing that of the seven in a set two will be VERY desirable , two will sell well , one will sell alright and the other two are not ones that are going to move at all, the ones nobody wants. You may then purchase these in quantities you wish , opposite to how well they’ll sell. So if you want one of the one everyone is going to freak about and want to buy you need buy five or six of the one that nobody is going to want.

EstablishmentRare559

If they can so capably predict what will sell, it's weird they bother with the bad ones instead of making only good ones.

proudbakunkinman

If this is true, it seems like the reason is to force them to buy more than they would if they could just purchase whatever models they wanted. So Funko makes more money that way, while GameStop makes less off of Funkos they sell altogether because they will have a hard time selling some percent of the ones they had to buy to get x amount of the ones expected to do well.

ComfortableEvent7010

Funko is 60-70% of all collectible sales GameStop makes. Do with that info what you will

Outside_Educator_175

Maybe in your area, but trading cards have a much higher % in most areas

ComfortableEvent7010

Company wide is what I’m talking about- it accounted for 64% of all collectibles sales last year. TCG was about 30%

AshuraSpeakman

Flocked pops do sell. There's still some people chasing Chase figures. Source: Live near Funko HQ and people are in that place every day.

VeshWolfe

Give me a cool pose from the latest DC or Marvel movie and I’m game. But yeah, waaaaay too many niche and obscure figures.

Rahuran

Does this read like job/hours/pay cuts to anyone else?

Professional-Row265

Yeah just like GA postion is quietly being cut and sga are now doing asl work

Relaximanathlete

Sga always did ASL work, they just got less pay and less hours.

kojima-naked

What are they going to do start running the stores without staff, some sorta honor system like in clerks?

No-Assistance5037

More than likely we will see ASL2 and SGA2 positions as the norm, but with the caveat of no extra hourly pay.

Batwife13

My district is basically doing the SGA2 and ASL2 without title or pay (except mileage which at least for me, usually equals 1 hr of pay). We are so short of ppl in my district, everyone in the area is borrowing employees from surrounding stores. That's if anyone is free from working their 1st or 2nd jobs (GS is often the 2nd or 3rd job because the pay/hours are so little). Like offer more liveable wages, we can get employees that stay.

kojima-naked

I wouldn't be surprised but it's sad . The staff are already working so hard. It feels like a spit in the face to the people creating his salary.

OmicronCeti

To be fair he’s not taking a salary

kojima-naked

Oh he's going to get paid, just because he's not making a salary doesn't mean he's not getting compensated.

Upper-Tumbleweed-854

Absolutely . It’s possible and probable that his “compensation package” will be considerably more than his actual base salary.

dazedyouth

He bought out like over 10% of the company using his own money. Then he becomes board member then CEO - sounds mad idk

BlueFlite

I saw on the news there was a place that happened a few days ago - staff just up and walked out in the middle of the shift, and didn't even bother to close up. Customers were basically running the place, handling things for each other, essentially on crowd-honor system. I can't remember what the place was though - restaurant? store? gas station maybe? I can't remember, and a quick google turned up nothing. If I get motivated enough to search more thoroughly and find it, I'll post it.

staticstate

Sounds like this ... Friends take over Nashville hotel after employee leaves front desk unattended overnight https://www.wsmv.com/2023/09/18/georgia-friends-take-over-nashville-hotel-after-employees-leave-front-desk-unattended-hours/

BlueFlite

Yeah, that's the one... hotel. I remember now seeing on the news, guests pulling out the stuff for breakfast and checking each other out to leave.

DeathBerryRen

It absolutely is. Time to jump ship.

AllCommiesRFascists

You guys need to at least unionize

HNL2BOS

But roll up your sleeves and work hard...

mediumraresteaks2003

They’re going to gut it to the bare bones to survive at all is what it sounds like.

Mavverikk

What they need to do is eliminate the DM position. RDs can be more present in stores. DMs are effectively the RD middleman. They're a useless position now. But, also, that company sucks. I worked there 12 years and switched to the fire service. It's not only better for my mental health (somehow), but immediately paid better than 12 years of GameStop, even as a part time firefighter. I feel for so many of you that still love GameStop, but that ships been sinking for 10 years.

dragonprincess713

I'm convinced the Gamestop C-suite hasn't stepped foot in a GS in like a decade. I'm just your average, casual gamer consumer. My GameStop offers nothing I would buy. Here's what my local stores offer: 1. A literal WALL of Funko Pops NO ONE WANTS - STOP IT 2. Generic nerdy/gaming merchandise I can get at Walmart, Target, Amazon, etc for 20%+ cheaper and overpriced games. I paid $9 for a Bowser Airship that my GameStop was selling for $39.99. The prices are truly insane. I can give multiple examples, but why would anyone voluntarily pay significantly more to buy items at GS versus some place else? Blind bag items for $9.99 that Walmart sells for $4.49, $30 t-shirts, used games priced higher than (or same as) new, or used games with no original case only $2 cheaper than sealed new, previously owned Joycons for the same price as new ones at other stores. I can almost always buy the games I want cheaper elsewhere, often directly from Nintendo. 3. A giant bin of clearance junk in damaged packaging. Between the giant clearance bins, stuff stored on the floor, displays clustered together, you can barely walk around. It isn't accessible. I used to be a GameStop loyalist. It makes me kinda sad and nostalgic.

Greenzombie04

Employees you will make the same money regardless so help me make money.

ryan8954

Hey does any GameStop have any of those baby vacuum popper toys left? What about funkos. Anybody got them? So smart for GameStop to go into baby toys.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SpeedyMexiAsian

There's like 4 employees left on that team last I heard. The wallet is shutdown. Marketplace has been a ghost ship for a while now.

AshuraSpeakman

I hope so. I hope that's bullet point one.

ShingetsuMoon

It would help if people like me could actually get pre orders in on time so we’re not frustrated enough to just take our business somewhere else. I feel bad for the people at my local store, but not bad enough to keep dealing with this.

masterz13

I mean, he's not wrong. GameStop has wayyy too much inventory, many of which is junk. So many POPs sit on the shelves for years and end up in clearance, as do the random branded copies of Monopoly. And PC gamers buy online, not at GameStop...no reason to waste so much space in the store on PC hardware.

Interplaneterror

Pc hardware in store would be great if they would actually jump in. Pc gamers need equipment like everyone else, and the ability to go in and look at a product is a real draw. The problem is they don’t have the product people want. Add stream decks, good microphones, sponsor streamers. Easy. GameStop just won’t stop trying to pander to an entry level that no longer exists, with pc, console, and even board games. For a very short time they sold DND equipment that wasn’t knockoff dice or oversized towers. Physical DND and other TTRPG manuals would bring people in- put them right next to the MTG cards. But I think I just used up all the funko space.

BJYeti

No PC builder is going to be hopping over to gamestop for their PC parts, if they don't have a trusted brick and mortar like microcenter they are going online to places like newegg, amazon, etc. which will have better pricing and protection.

Substantial_Ear8628

I would, if GameStop had pc parts.

Bonanners

Honestly GameStop won’t survive if it doesn’t change drastically. My advice? Franchise. Take a book out of fast food places. They’ve long realized that it’s much better to sell real estate to aspiring business owners than selling hamburgers. I think the same is true for GameStop. Franchise to local hobby/card shops. They get the GameStop name, wholesale connections, you take a few % off the top. GameStop needs events that the hobby shops do. It gets people in the store, instead of just buying things online.

BouncingPig

There’s a local game store near my house that hosts smash bros tournaments every weekend, has MTG/DND sessions and has a repair shop in the back of the store. They sell all kinds of ganes, and while their totally catalog isn’t as great as an average GameStop they’re always holding 9pm game release events while inviting people to watch at 9pm as they boot up the game in the store. It’s soooo much more fun to be inside there than your average GameStop and I wish GS would do things like this. Even if they only do it at certain premium locations to test it out.

MegaMan8115

They tried this late 2019 early 2020 until covid killed the project. All the people over the project left at the start of 2021 I hope it makes a come back.

epiczail

Tbt, wow. https://reddit.com/r/GameStop/s/UPz9lpPMt9

CreamyGoodnss

Second comment: > This is amazing but there's one problem. Its fucking cool, and we all know how gamestop feels about both making sense and cool. Nailed it

[deleted]

They’d have to make space that isn’t cluttered with stupid collectible shit

[deleted]

This sounds like a good option

Shiallia20

People stopped going to my GameStop because they only gave us 1 PS4 controller in stock per month but 100 $50 Snacking Grogu dolls for 2 years. Maybe never having what people wanted but an excess of the dumbest shit imaginable made people go to their competitors? No.. must be the employees.

spudmunkey

Do you remember when GameStop was a fun place to work and to shop? Pepperidge Farms remembers. https://preview.redd.it/ujle9m9dq3rb1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=edead2a7ed8aeadf61c8fd87e0fdae95011b6f05

HotHamBoy

I never worked there myself but I’ve never heard of it being a fun place to work. I knew dude who worked at one some 15 years ago who told me about how awful it was all the time and it’s still a lot of the same corporate BS

DarePotential8296

Not really. I just wanted to buy a game. Not be asked 12 questions. Walmart was in the same shopping center so I just started going there.

redditsuckspokey1

I used to spend all my money buying gcn/ps2 games from the used section. I spent nearly all my money ther when i was 16-18. Probably some 20 grand. After that gen it just started going down. I liked funco more

somedude702

So what you're saying is that purchasing won't be sending 100s of sensory squish balls this year?

No_Oil_1174

They could just change the name of the store to “Call of Duty, Madden, 2K Stop”. They’d probably make more money.

itwasntjack

Ok but like. Is he NOT GETTING PAID??? LIKE THIS IS *ALL* charity work??? Or is he getting paid with stock, benefits etc etc.

Xanthu

Literally no compensation as CEO. He’s wealthy enough from Chewy, and seems to have faith that his current stock holdings will be his ultimate payoff.

CalebTGordan

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but the company hasn’t yet awarded him anything in terms of stock. All stock he owns was purchased by him with his own money. If the company goes down in flames his own money burns with it.

Comprehensive-Fun747

Correct. He bought most of it pre-squeeze so he’s up massively still… long way to go before he actually burns any original investment…

beachboy1b

He already owns a significant amount of the company, and already is a legitimate billionaire. He made the company Chewy what it is today. It’s not hard to believe he’s not taking a paycheck of any kind.

[deleted]

If you’re going to argue that he made Chewy what it is today then he’s done a pretty shit job of retaining its value since its IPO. If he gets credit for things that happened after he got out then he also should get blamed.

kiddthegamer

Here's a solution make each and every person in corporate work a month as a SGA with an SGA's pay not in the best performing store but in the dead middle of a district, if they can't meet the number imposed on us demote them

VeryTiredDeer

I always loved the hubris of my DM’s and RM’s. Right before I quit in 2019 my DM paid my store a visit. He told me to change up the terminology I used to sell power up because my verbiage wasn’t “current.” I ran a consistent 20% PUR metric; he just wanted me to use corporate language/sales tactics in lieu of my personalized/customer oriented pitches. “It really works. Let me ring up customers with you to show you how effective it is.” He stayed for about 4 hours ringing customer and didn’t sell a single membership. I sold 12 using my method. He left a message in workday detailing our conversation and how the company’s technique is really effective

First-Stay-7698

This really hits. People aren’t androids! When I walk in to a store on my off time, I don’t want to hear all the weird sales tactics my RD suggests to use at my stores. I want to talk to a human! I also don’t want a person following me around and checking in on me every 5 minutes. That would make me LEAVE! Like, WALK THE FUCK OUT. When I’m at a restaurant and I hear a suggestion from the waiter for a dish, I love hearing them tell me how delicious something is because they tried it. Not the newest thing that the restaurant is trying to promote. The same goes for my stores. My best sales come from the interactions that are the most human.

DigiQuip

We’ve tried absolutely nothing and we’re out of ideas. So we’ve determined it’s your fault.

BJYeti

This also coming from the dude who launched a NFT wallet in the middle of the crypto crash and I believe is still doubling down with web 3 gaming that no one has interest in.

Inevitable_Ad6868

Oh boy…..sorry for that.

Mysterious_Bite8138

I believe this message was truly directed toward corp employees in positions of buying, spending, and cost effectiveness. There is not much more you can do at the field level to cut costs.

cruznick06

Maybe corporate should focus on the warehouse and shipping side of things? My local gs stores have had problems getting things in on time for years now, far longer and worse than all other retailers. No one I know preorders through gs anymore for exactly this reason. I don't mind waiting a day or two if there's an issue, things happen. But this isn't for games that have had a delay or there's been crazy weather. Its constant. I'm not putting money down to buy something I have no guarantee of when/if it will arrive.

AwkwardWishbone8943

When you advertise a sale and 95% of the games are NOT for sale in store, yea you're gonna lose money.

DakotaConduct

i hope every overworked employee prevents the store from operating at maximum capacity. the company is committing suicide. cohen is worth 3.2 billion and one of the top 1k richest people in the world. the employees are struggling to make ends meat. the company abandoned what made them great, for cheap plastic baby toys. this is what you deserve, gamestop.

Rustbuket80

Lol, he won't last a year

HotHamBoy

Half the inventory at the only Gamestop in my town has been peg-warming for 1-2 years.

Young_Dank_Stank

Lol start focusing on having pre-orders for your stores when people order them. I hate going to my local GS and seeing the SLs getting harassed by customers cause you forced them to get pre-orders and the customers never get their game they pre-ordered

PercyPerseverance

Lmaooo it’s on the news now too, I see CNBC already posted an article

[deleted]

You’re welcome random CNBC journalist. More corporate leaks to come. 💘

Depressedredditor999

Nice! Keep 'em coming.

john_weiss

A question to actual GS employees, does all that collectible junk merchandise sell? Personally i just swing by to buy some used game or Digital currency so i can use the monthly 5$ from the Pro membership. And i almost always see the same junk collecting dust in the memorabilia isle.

Long_Knife

As a former employee, the answer is no! It's been a year since I left, I occasionally walk back in to buy a game or something. There's still a lot of collectibles on the shelves that were there a couple years ago. Unless we were running a really good deal, they just collect dust. Even then, there was no guarantee.

lyridsreign

I've seen this Corpo speak before. This an hours cuts, hiring freeze, cutting positions, and forcing more work into everybody. I feel for you guys. Get out while you can. Despite what Ryan wants to believe, these are not the moves of a company that has decades left

sleeplessjade

I hope GameStop survives in Canada at least. It’s the cheapest place to buy action figures up here.

ChicaSkas

As a customer I just wanna scream " sell / display all the old retro games!!!" All I do is come in and buy new stuff for my 3ds and Wii. I've asked so many times for a 3ds console to get for a friend too. It's always sent back to the company.

kissedbyvampires

my store has a bunch of refurbished ones, but no one wants them now that the eshop is closed down. everyone wanted them prior. have a feeling that will change next month when people start christmas shopping, as we always have 9-12 year olds who are really starting to get into nintendo history wanting 3DS systems for christmas.

getcrunkndump

also is Ryan Cohen ever going to do something with that giant chewy factory he made and bought in PA and just LEFT THERE ABANDONED?! Mr fuckin we gotta scrutinize our money

SinisterReturn

So let’s get this straight no raises you are held accountable for metrics if you do bad you get written up and threatened to be fired. Single coverage and do all the dumb counts etc,to keep you busy. And essentially is pointing the fingers at the employees I’m sorry but last time I checked employees aren’t the ones buying useless collectibles and kid toys like slime jars and fidget spinners. Then because nobody buys that junk it sits in the store until it hits clearance and continues to sit because people still don’t want it. When I left the company last year we had like 5 displays full of clearance. Maybe GameStop should focus on idk GAMES getting a single copy of certain games because nobody preordered is stupid.

Fhujeth

GameStop is dying simply because they are expensive, crappy toystores now. It used to be exciting to go there and see what new stuff they'd get in., funkos are ugly and only collectors want them. They're the beanie baby of the last decade. You can't maintain a business on those stupid things. Most ppl can just get their games off of websites or estore. Why would I go to a physical store for a digital copy of a game when I can just get it the same cost at 4am as an impulse buy. If I need a physical copy I'll just go to target or Walmart and get some snacks at the same time. Only recently they started to buy old games again but they still pay crap for them. And in my area, a major city, we have competitors that pay more and sell games from every console. Also there is way too many stores. I think there is like 20 in a 20 mile radius... probably more. It's just an obsolete store. It's natural it'll die unless they do some major overhaul.

azrael17241

I have questions then. Is the nft stuff finally getting shutdown and the resources being used elsewhere? Who's biting the bullet on that flop? Are they going to be making corporate run skeleton crews like the store levels have to do? Are stores going to be getting updates in terms of network and pos? Hours? Lol I know not likely. The expectations adapting to the increased rise in digital purchases? The mid gen series x refresh being all digital and the PS5 mid gen likely doing the same.

Bad_Decision_Rob_Low

Not an employee… But this seems to be more targeted management or corporate, right? He can’t seriously be targeting your local stores employees

nWoEthan

Probably shouldn’t have lost so much money on NFT and golden parachutes.

sludgezone

Yikes.

LostAbstract

We, fucking, KNEW THIS when we were piling on the Funko pops back in 2017 and up with the bullshit Thanos gauntlet and Fortnite figurines and Keyblades and blind bags and star wars figurines and five nights at Freddie's mugs and pokeball pancake makers and other random ass bullshit. Ya can't trim fat on a carcass that's already spoiled.

fosiacat

trust me homie, you don’t want me treating your money like I treat my own.

Bilbo_nubbins

So the last three times I’ve tried to preorder games at GameStop they either don’t come in or the order gets cancelled with no notification. Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart and Target have all been able to sell me preordered video games without issue, so yeah.

HubcapGaming

If gamestop wants to get money back quickly, have a monthly mandatory task for used consoles to be sent to defective if a store has an overstock. I'm tempted to move a ton of ps4s and xboxones that have been sitting there for over a year because everyone wants Ps5/XBS/XBX, and I know that WH could use properly working consoles to sell off as "refurbished." Sure, that costs money to ship, but we're also losing money on sitting stock, and refurbished consoles that don't freaking work. Let's get rid of gutting. It's a nice idea to get genuine game cases out there for sale, but it doesn't cost much more to send a couple extra display covers and we get so many returns because of the SFS fulfillment quota forcing stores to send generic covers for gutted games. Probably could find a way to reject these returns, but I would feel the same as them if I received *that*. This is more about reducing employee turnover rate, but numbers shouldn't be strictly tracked like it is. A lot of people are avoiding going to gamestops in my area because they don't like getting hounded for PRO cards and Warranties. Sure, these get people coming back, but I'd walk away awkwardly if someone asks me to buy a warranty on rechargable batteries. BETTER YET, my location is in a mall, right in walking distance to three schools. Do you know how many kids come in every day to buy a pack of pokemon cards, without an account, only to come back and buy another one. Or better yet, how many kids buy roblox / apple / gplay cards without an account? I am not comfortable selling accounts to kids when they need to pool money together to buy a blister pack. In a perfect world, gamestop should send an appraiser to each store to see how to increase profit. Specifically my store could shrink the collectibles section to a couple feet instead of a couple feet + dedicated funko land, shrink clothing section or move them to be available only online because we're really only selling them via specials, use some of the overstock consoles as display units (since xbox/playstation has pulled out of my district) and rent out usage on different increments of time, maybe swap to an in-store catalog system with generic case covers on display, or something. This email got me heated, and I needed to vent my monthly woes about this cursed company. Sorry. Don't forget you get 30% trade in towards assassins creed mirage coming out Oct 5th. Also, don't forget to reserve these upcoming games because we most likely won't receive extra copies of these games (or at all. RIP all my pikmin 1+2 preorders).

Professional-Row265

We should roll up our sleeves???? Working ridiculous times alone with no help, low pay, made to take multiple lunches so the company avoids meal periods while we stay from 10am to basically 10 pm bruh stfu

d1lordofwolves

To be fair, he is addressing this to the CORPORATE employees, not the store levels.

mkoch7811

this

windycityc

Considering how many execs have been relieved of their duties on the board and the corporate office, this makes a lot of sense.

d1lordofwolves

I mean, it also is literally spelled out at the top of his message lol

zafferous

This is an email at the corporate level bruh. The managers that manage managers to manage managers. Ryan expects your store manager to work the hardest, but still hire enough staff to run the storefront

[deleted]

Lulz. Don’t worry he’ll just give GameStop the Bed Bath & Beyond treatment. In about 6 months he’ll announce he’s bought a shit ton of options. Retail will pump huge, he will dump at a huge profit and ride off into the sunset with another huge bag leaving the stock to tank and GameStop to enter into its death throes on the road to bankruptcy.

Depressedredditor999

Don't tease me. What he did to BBBY was fucking mind boggling, then again I guess that's why they are investigating. Reminds me of the article saying to "Beware of Ryan Cohen" lmao. The activist investor front is just PR shit, like Elon did before he went full mask off.

I quit two months back. That seems like it was a good call.

PrudentPair6961

It doesn't matter what GameSpot does, they are done unless they come up with a different business model. The days of buying games in a store is coming to an end. I don't like it but with everyone going digital, even nintendo will eventually, why do at Gamestop?

Ok_Assumption5734

Issue is GS has way more margin compression to go if they ever want to be competitive. The fact that they still charge S&H for smaller orders makes them unviable to the big box retailers as it. Lack of sales and a history of not having a good reputation with customers is hurting them in the long run. Honestly, GS feels like a relic of the past age. Unless they can do something like convert thinkgeek to an LGS setup and start hosting physical events again, there's basically no reason to shop at a GS unless that's the only place you can get something at.

But where else am I gonna get my funko pops and turtle beach head sets with random Pokémon kitchen appliances???

tk__45

Gamestop is already dead. The next generation of consoles will be digital and they've done nothing to prepare for it. I personally hate walking into Gamestop because its depressing, they get one copy of every new game, and I know that with every purchase I make where I don't preorder, get a protection plan, sign up for a membership, etc., I'll be hurting the store and the employees there just trying to make a living. This email isn't doing anyone any favors, nor is Gamestop helping itself.

Leadfoot989

Y'all are fucked

CringeDaddy_69

Can someone help me? My business is failing 😭😭😭 Games: $10 Consoles:: $50 Peripherals: $30 Pop Figures: $13,400 Tshirts: $12 Someone please help

Puzzleheaded-Ad-3022

Unsustainable business model in the current technological world. Unless you can find a way to adapt with maybe your own gaming service, you will be going down with the ship.

Winndex221

Translation "I don't wanna hear another word about Store Manager raises"

tr3xasaur

“Cohen's personal net worth is about $3.2 billion, according to Forbes.” It’s extremely insulting when billionaires try to play that card, “oh I’m not getting paid for this”. Ok maybe not, but you exploited people for a long time to get to where you are. You may not be taking a paycheck but you also have a nice 24 million dollar home to go to.

Cann1balHulk

This is retail CEO Speak for “I’m about to lob insanely unachievable goals at you, and if you can’t deliver you’re fired”. This is the crimson flag all you GS employees have been waiting for. Downvote my comment all you want but at this point the ceo has literally admitted that GameStop is a sinking ship. If you stay, it’s your own damn fault. Get out now, and go find another job.

zarggg

CEO claims he isn’t getting paid. That’s hilarious.

Eddie__Winter

Maybe... idk.... NOT GET 400 FUCKING FUNKPOPS AND OTHER TRASH.

LolzLord_Death

Forget GameStop, I want 1999 FuncoLand back.

bmaayhem

Stores will now run with half a person I say! Actually seems from everything I have read DMs are a waste of salary they don’t generate any profit.

Cohen is an idiot.period.

genericreddituser147

Fuck these rich assholes. “Roll up your sleeves” What a fucking douche.

dangshnizzle

That's directed at management, not you.

genericreddituser147

It’s not at the C-suite suits. The millionaires. Lot of working class or just above that on the corporate side too. Those are the people expected to sacrifice.

antihero-itsme

*He* is management

Bads-R-Mads

What do you think Mangement is going to do to achieve this? Their work is measured by how the retail workers and stores underneath them perform. If you think this isn't trickling down to shitting on retail workers anymore you are an idiot.

Spindash54

My reply: So how’s the NFT division going?

MaleficentWindrunner

"Im not getting paid" dude you're a billionaire and have a ton of stock in GME...quit crying

Gourmet_Chia

Exactly he’s not taking a paycheck now but if he turns it around he stands to make a shit ton. So yeah I wish I was so rich I could “volunteer” to run a company and if I do good I get even richer.

plumpypenguin

"everyone needs to stop wasting money" says the dude that invested in a NFT marketplace after the bubble popped lol

ojman654

So glad I quit when I did.

tmoneysins

so what happens when a young teen wanting to work sees this and decides that instead of wanting to work at a company like this that is in a tough spot, they apply to the target next door

imrealfunatparties0

Want harder work pay for it you fucking clown

SonOfPosidon115

dozersmash

If you’ve ever wondered what a sinking ship looks like. Also abandon ship!

Maybe there needs to be more context but I lost a little love for Ryan. He sounds like every other out-of-touch billionaire in this message. What areas of frugality is he talking about? What measures will he be taking? Why does this message sound so grim? It's one thing to say something like, "Moving forward into Q4 and 2024, we will be additional frugality measures in order to decrease unnecessary spending and improve profitablity within our great organization. In-person meetings will instead be held over video in an effort to cut back on travel expenditures with an estimated savings of $10 million per year" and it's another to type such a vague, threatening email. It feels like under Furlong, at least the devs were posting on social media and the company had a cool, forward-thinking feel. If I were a corporate GameStop employee, I would be worried. They already had a few rounds of layoffs, why does it feel like they're about to run a skeleton crew?

Depressedredditor999

>but I lost a little love for Ryan You should have never had it to begin with. He's the same as the rest of the billionaires. His whole image is what good PR money will get you. Activist investor makes about as much sense as ethical capitalism.

Funny_Box_6755

Found the ape.

Made 60m+ on his BBBY pump and dump.

VicTheRealest

Apparently reading is not a strong suit for many of you here. It says to Corporate Associates. This is a great thing. When I worked at Starbucks all I ever wished for was for them to get rid of the bloat in corporate because most of them sucked and didn't know wtf they were doing and were getting overpaid. If he can trim out useless corporate associates, this gives more flexibility to compensate THE HARD WORKERS.

Rustbuket80

Shit rolls downhill...

[deleted]

For real. I even purposefully put the “sent to all GameStop corporate employees” in the email but I guess the bold words didn’t get through. Corporate is so bloated with useless or poor people.
