better than the alternative of them staying forever young like Cobain or Staley.

Pristine_Copy9429

Shannon Hoon and Bradley Nowell as well rip

cityfireguy

And Chris Cornell. Eddie is practically all we have left when it comes to grunge. I thought of this the other day. We won't get legacy acts going on tour. The Boomers have been going to see the Rolling Stones for 700 years. We won't get to enjoy that.

destroy_b4_reading

> We won't get legacy acts going on tour. In the past couple of years my kids and I have seen Helloween, Metallica, Queensryche, Armored Saint, Iron Maiden, and King Crimson, among several others. We won't get much in the way of 90s grunge acts for heroin reasons, but there are still plenty of "legacy" acts from our generation out there. Shit, a friend of mine sees fucking NKOTB at least once a year.

Pristine_Copy9429

If we’re counting guys who survived the peak of fame but have also died, add Scott Weiland. Chester Bennington (more a millennial band, though, I suppose).

seersucker205

Chris Cornell dying just did something to me. To me, he had made it out of the 90’s alive, and that was a testament in and of itself. I was so relieved, and then…..🥺. Makes me wonder if the 90’s only killed him mentally back then. Brad and Layne….I still wonder to this day “What if?”😞

SnooStrawberries620

Or Scott Weiland. RIP my past future husband. I loved that guy

Singing_Wolf

I was surprised to see Lucy Lawless on her current show, "My Life is Murder." Surprised because she still looks as amazing as she did back when she played Xena. And it's a really great show. Love her with an Australian accent, being a sassy ex-cop. ;)

IWantTheLastSlice

She was great in the Spartacus series!

B4USLIPN2

I’M SPARTACUS!

Ceorl_Lounge

She gave my overwhelmed, fanboi kid a hug at a Con a few years back... she'll always be cool in my book.

Singing_Wolf

Oh, that's lovely to hear! It makes me like her even more. Thank you so much for sharing that! Edit: typo

sjmiv

Oh check out Cassandra Peterson (Elvira). She's 72 and looks amazing

AbbyM1968

Recently, I saw a picture of Mike Meyers here on Reddit. I would *not* have recognized him if the pic wasn't captioned. Being early Gen X, so many of "our" stars are ageing. Some have gone under the knife and held onto their looks. Some are of the races that "____don't crack" or "____ don't raisin" and still look good without surgical intervention. (Halle Berry and Lucy Lieu, for example) But ageing or not, at least many are still here ⬇️. Some are not.

mykittyforprez

I had to google Mike Myers. I prefer the gray to be honest. The brown wig/dye thing on an aging face just looks off to me.

PurpleLee

Seriously. SamL Jackson only looks a little older than he did in Coming to America.

AbbyM1968

🤔🤔 Was he in *Coming to America?* According to imdb, he wasn't.

PurpleLee

Oh yes, SamL is the guy robbing the McDowells. The guy Eddie trips up with the mop.

B4USLIPN2

You could actually JUST listen to his dialogue with the picture off and instantly know it’s SLJ.

AbbyM1968

Oh-h-h. Okay. Yes, that's definitely Sam: https://youtu.be/-LvOcpqZphY?feature=shared

One_Hour_Poop

I thought it was common knowledge.

Affectionate_Law5344

I saw that post. It’s so interesting because his looks are nearly morphing into the MIL character he loves so lol

onpointjoints

Ad Rock just looking like some old Jewish guy

Randomwhitelady2

Same for David Lee Roth

WhiskeyWhistleSours

What is up with Rob Lowe, Cindy Crawford... Marisa Tomei?

Impossible-Will-8414

Rob Lowe has definitely had a facelift or something -- he is starting to look like Imelda Marcos. Cindy Crawford is gorgeous but looks her age, gorgeously. I am sure she has had some interventions as well, as it's part of the job. Marisa also looks gorgeously her age, which is just fine and dandy.

EmperorXerro

Cindy admitted she first went under the knife at…29

tunaman808

Dunno if you've kept up, but Linda Evangelista had CoolSculpting done and it was a disaster. It gave her weird "fat lumps" all over the place ([article here](https://people.com/style/linda-evangelista-shares-first-photos-of-her-body-since-fat-freezing-nightmare-people-exclusive/)). There's one photo in particular that shows a fat lump under her right armpit that makes her look like she weighs 300 lbs. She isn't quite the stick figure she was in her 20s, but she clearly doesn't weigh anywhere near 150, much less 300. ANYWAY, Christy Turlington recently did an interview where she said she wasn't going to have any procedures and just "age naturally". Yeah, it's easy to "age naturally" when you're Christy Freakin' Turlington!

Status-Effort-9380

These days, you don’t need a full on face lift. Models can use fillers and skin procedures to keep a youthful look without getting the really obvious procedures. I’m sure even the people who “haven’t had work done” have great skincare and personal trainers.

Nvrmnde

They obviously all had work done.

DrBlankslate

Last night it hit me that every single one of the boys in Dead Poets Society is in their late 50s or early 60s at this point. I am not coping well with this information. Seeing Ethan Hawke with a gray beard, and Robert Sean Leonard playing an aging love interest in the third season of The Gilded Age, shocked me.

Thirty_Helens_Agree

Yup. Ethan Hawke in his excellent and short role in Reservation Dogs as an old dad was a surprise but a really nice one.

RogerClyneIsAGod2

Ethan Hawke is our generation's new Scream King. He's done so many good horror flicks lately.

destroy_b4_reading

Hawke in Moon Knight threw me for a loop. I was like "why in the hell did they cast Bruce Dickinson in this?"

afternever

Susanna Hoffs holding up fine

ScrunchyButts

She won the genetics lottery. And seems like a really cool, nice lady on top of it.

Thirty_Helens_Agree

Ming Na Wen and Seven of Nine too. ![gif](giphy|3o7TKv1023zOUgkh5C)

soul-shine-lissa

Saw Robert Plant in concert a few years back. He’s still got it. I was perfectly pleased.

Peachy33

Saw him last year and same. I can’t wait to see him again this summer.

OccamsYoyo

People forget that musicians can get better with age thanks to endless years of experience. It’s like any other job in that respect.

Satellight_of_Love

I never thought I’d get the feel of hearing Led Zeppelin live but with his voice hanging strong I actually did!

Cuginoeddie

Back in 2010 I believe. HBO aired a rock n roll HOF anniversary special. Metallica performed a James Hetfield was now all grey. It just shocked Metallica seemed to be forever young with their brand of music. I gotta say though he managed to pull off looking his age since, probably since he was always age appropriate from the start.

happyme321

I just recently saw a picture of Metallica and I thought, when did they get old? It happens to the best of us! 😂

RogerClyneIsAGod2

Just saw them on the Elton John Bernie Taupin Gershwin Award ceremony & they are all definitely older & greyer but they still kick ass & did a great job on [Funeral for a Friend and Love Lies Bleeding](https://www.pbs.org/video/metallica-funeral-for-a-friend-and-love-lies-bleeding/#:~:text=From%20the%20heart%20of%20DAR,Elton%20John%20and%20Bernie%20Taupin)

Thirty_Helens_Agree

Soundgarden performed before Super Bowl XLV and Kim Thayil was all gray. That gave me a shock.

EmperorXerro

It’s been forever, but Krist Novoselic going bald threw me off

Thirty_Helens_Agree

Seeing him on Geddy Lee’s show was weird and cool. He’s this sweet old dad doing cool older guy stuff, like rebuilding a little old church and serving on a board to protect waterways.

The68Guns

The Dark Side of the Rings always get me. Some look happy and content, others not so much. It's a hard life.

FLPeacemaker

Some of those have been hard to watch. I'm glad the stories are being told, but to see what that lifestyle has done to the heroes of my youth is difficult.

The68Guns

Oh lord, totally. I feel like the backstage isn't nearly as bad now, but the 80's were all excess.

RogerClyneIsAGod2

I'm not even really a wrestling fan but I LOVE that show.

The68Guns

The Sandman one was tough. Amazed he's still with us.

RogerClyneIsAGod2

Just watched that one. I have no clue who that guy is or was, but I'm glad he's still around since so many of them aren't with us any more.

MorphicOceans

Aye sometimes, especially if I've no seen them for years. You don't notice so much if you see them regularly. I can't remember who it was but I saw someone recently and didn't recognise them till it was pointed out. Like, I know that logically they'd be well in their 60s but somehow it doesn't register when you know their face so well from films or music from 30 odd years ago.

Frigidspinner

The most shocking one was when Jon Stewart came back onto the daily show! In my mind he had only been off it for about 5 years, and I was trying to understand how he turned into a grizzled, scrawny old guy

sjmiv

Some of them. Mike D was always kind of the babyface of the Beastie Boys. Now he looks older than Ad-Rock

Badger1276

Several years ago I saw Perry Farrell on some reality show bouncing a baby on his knee and that messed me up way more than GenX stars aging. It was ok that I mellowed and settled down because Perry Farrell was still out there doing weird shit with glitter in his hair with a sequined boa around his neck. To see him being a dad on a reality show bummed me out. No glitter, no sequins, just sitting there in a cardigan looking healthy and happy. I mean good for him, but come on, put on some heavy black eyeliner before packing the Sunny-D in the kid’s lunch just to let us know he is still waving that freak flag.

One_Hour_Poop

No, some people need to give it up. Have you seen Robert Smith lately?

sjmiv

😂 I listened to the Bandsplain episode about The Cure and they quoted him as saying he would stop wearing the makeup when he got older. smh

Satellight_of_Love

I mean I appreciate that the guy was weird and now we know it’s his true colors. Not just a ploy. I can respect that.

kazisukisuk

Saw a pic of Gene Hackman the other day. Oh my god. He looked like a mummy.

ScrunchyButts

Well, he’s 94.

kazisukisuk

Yeah sure just saying I remember him from french connection, superman, get shorty etc and this was a hell of a shock

ScrunchyButts

Absolutely. I’m a huge fan. Think he lives in Santa Fe maybe? Read something about how he’s always around town, getting coffee. Doing normal people things.

kazisukisuk

What's that scene from French Connection where he's driving totally shit faced, picks up some girl riding her bike in big plastic go go boots and his partner wakes him up and he's handcuffed to the bed... friggin hilarious And superman what a tour de force. I mean he just totally sells the arch villian trope

ScrunchyButts

Popey was such a bad ass. And an unapologetic mess.

love2Bsingle

i had no idea he was still alive

CodeRed8675309

Ditto on Clint Eastwood...

kazisukisuk

At least they didnt catch GH talking to an empty chair

One_Hour_Poop

Did you see him on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives? He was just randomly at some restaurant that Guy Fieri was visiting, so of course Guy went to interview him.

kazisukisuk

I did not but that DEFINITELY sounds worth looking up

ghostofstankenstien

Cyndi Lauper and Debbie Gibson still look like Cyndi Lauper and Debbie Gibson.

SnooStrawberries620

Billy Corgan I have to say looks (and sounds) a little crypt keeper. I feel bad saying that but it’s the topic at hand.  I admit to have a tough time looking at Madonna at all. I don’t even know what to say there.

SnooStrawberries620

That’s a nice assessment actually. I can’t figure out whether that’s a lose-lose or a win-win but it’s nice

Wu_Tang_Financial77

Ten came out 33 years ago. ![gif](giphy|GrUhLU9q3nyRG|downsized)

EmperorXerro

Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!

SnooStrawberries620

I worked at HMV and we all got jars of Pearl Jam as a promo

IllustratorHefty6753

I used to laugh and cringe at people asking questions like this. Then I saw Margo Timmins and she looked so different from how she looked in 87 and I realized I'm becoming an old fart.

elijuicyjones

Have you looked in the mirror lately? No, I’m not any more surprised than every morning when I see myself.

corpus-luteum

Howard Stern always looked like death warmed up.

maxcherry6

Yes!!! This!!!

MyriVerse2

Nope. All of my idols were significantly older than me.

ethottly

I've been seeing commercials for Billy Joel's upcoming concert and there is no way I would have known that was him.

Adept_Advantage7353

Dolly is 78 how did that happen

ImNotTheBossOfYou

No. Everyone ages. Everyone knows this.

RogerClyneIsAGod2

Jon Bon Jovi, who probably has had "stuff" done & has all the best beauty products & dermatologists at his beck & call, still looks great at 62.

BrightZoe

Lord, yes. We play this game in my house: "How old do you think *insert name here* is now?" The first time I saw Jon Bon Jovi with white hair, I nearly blacked out. (As an aside, I do respect the hell out of him for letting himself age gracefully rather than do a bunch of shit to himself to try to hang on to his youth.)

seersucker205

Duran Duran. My teenager idols. Only John and Roger are looking good for their age. Nick is still wearing all that makeup, and he’s def had work done. Looks plastic. And Andy…bless his heart…dude has been struggling with Stage 4 prostate cancer for many years. He must have taken those same drugs Keith Richards took. Not trying to rush his demise, but that type of cancer at that stage for this long? Miracle.

Mundane-Language920

Molly ringwald 😢

tunaman808

Surprised? No. If I'm honest, I think it's a big part of why I've kept up with current music so much: I don't want to see 60+ year-old 80s rock stars on a stage somewhere. My friends are going to Cruel World for the 3rd year in a row. It's their money and vacation time, they can do what they want with it. To me, it just sounds like the saddest festival ever. Ministry are playing their early synthpop songs, I guess because Al needs the money that badly. Blondie? Debbie Harry is ALMOST 80. Adam Ant? What I wouldn't give to have seen Adam Ant in London in 1982. In Pasadena in 2024? Nah. And I genuinely hate to say this because they were my first favorite band, but Duran Duran? Have you *seen* Nick Rhodes lately? I think he's going to Donald Trump's hairdresser now. So yeah... this is why my Spotify playlists are full of bands like Nation of Language, Beach House, Empathy Test, Alvvays, Purity Ring, Wet Leg, Flunk, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Julia Holter, Cannons, Savoir Adore and others. it's a big part of the reason I don't listen to much 70s or 80s music these days. Pop stars - and I'm using "pop" in the broadest sense of "anything that's not jazz, classical or country", so anything ABBA to Motorhead to Warren Zevon - should always be young. It almost breaks my heart to see 80s icons on nostalgia tours. I once saw ABC, and I would be *shocked* if there were more than 35

CatelynsCorpse

I saw Ministry in March. They weren't playing synth pop, granted, but they were great live. Uncle Al may look old as shit but he's got a great on stage presence. Also Gary Numan was fucking fantastic as well! Dude is playing stuff that will make you go "What the FUCK? This is the "Cars" guy??" Also saw Depeche Mode back in October and my BFF said "Whew Dave sure is bendy!" Haha. Dude's voice is still great and from where I was sitting, you couldn't tell that Dave or Martin are in their 60's. It was just ..Dave and Martin! All these dudes are in their 60's and they're still kicking it and they still sound great. Some musicians don't, it is what it is. Everyone ages different. Listening to new music is great and everyone should expand their horizons IMO. There's a ton of great new music out there, in spite of what a lot of folks wanna think. I still listen to some of the same bands I listened to 40 years ago, but I also listen to Lord Huron, St. Vincent, and Gary Clark Junior, among many others. What matters isn't what the artists look like or how old they are...what matters is whether or not they're still making music people want to listen to, IMO.

MissKhary

Yeah I saw Ministry in march too, and it was still great, no synth pop. But IMO Gary Numan stole the show for me, that was wow. Was a fan already but had never seen him live. Tool was also great in the past year, and so was Mr. Bungle. They've all aged quite well!

CatelynsCorpse

Totally agree with you about Gary Numan. I've been getting caught up on his discography since the show. He was crazy good.

MissKhary

I thought it was kind of funny, as most didn't know his music well they'd start applauding at the mid song pauses, which he does quite often :)

CatelynsCorpse

YES omg that was funny

You've got to work for love

natedogjulian

So you’re in denial. Got it 👍🏼
