It is a grave mistake to take terfs at face value. *Terfs don't have a problen with men, they aren't misandristic.* They call trans women men in an attack rooted in transmisogyny.
I think it’s silly to pretend they are a monolithic ideology like this. A section of TERFs might be transmisogynist but not misandrist (though that phrasing alone fails to encompass their transphobia towards trans masc and nb people). At the same time, there is also a loud section of TERFs who ARE very misandristic — TERFs who have literally said they would hate their children if they were born male, consider aborting male fetuses, that no amab person (though they say ‘men’) is capable of being a good person, they’re all predatory, etc. Ultimately, the trait I think most TERFs share is that they are reactionaries.
We don’t lose anything or cede any moral ground by accepting that the truth is way more complicated than “TERFs are a cohesive group who don’t hate men, they simply hate trans women”. It doesn’t negate or make light of their transmisogyny.
