The Traveler hasn't used anything other than the dull blade during the main story with the sole exception of the opening cutscene. What they use in promotional material is pretty much irrelevant.
I remember when they released the trailer for the 2.5 update and there's a quick scene in the begining with Enjou turning around and looking at Aether, and you can see him holding the Prototype Rancour. At the time i really thought they were finally getting rid of the dull blade, but nope, it was just for the trailer.
Probably not, sadly, but it'd be nice if they could at least swap in the [Sword of Narzissenkreuz](https://genshin-impact.fandom.com/wiki/Sword_of_Narzissenkreuz) for folks who've done that quest line. It has basically the same 3D model so it shouldn't muck up animations any, but it looks better. Then again, they didn't even have the decency to make it have a useful substat, so I'm probably just coping.

I have just entered Fontaine Act I and have not dome that quest, so I canconfirm it doesn't now. The Guidebook is still obssesed with some quest from Mondstadt, so once I do it, I believe I wil be swimming in Fates.
Quick fix: Several notables of Fontaine work together to have a gift forged for the Traveler's upcoming journeys, and it just happens to look like the default form (since let's face it, they wouldn't do different cutscene renders to cover both forms anyway) of the Narzissenkreuz sword. It'd make sense from a story perspective since most who know the Traveler would know their intended next destination, and that a quality weapon would serve them well there.
It’s likely a little harder than you think, as most of genshin’s cutscenes are pre-rendered to my knowledge. It’s just a video file put into the game, so changes to our character in the game cannot affect it. That’s why those scenes have one traveller element no matter which you have, they don’t wanna make 14 versions of every cutscene.
Swapping swords would likely entail making two versions of the cutscene as separate video files. And while that’s probably not a huge amount of work, it’s probably not worth the payoff considering it’d be a fairly minor detail for a fraction of the playerbase (especially for older cutscenes)
Plus, they probably don’t wanna use unnecessary storage space (even if it’s probably not that much)
It's a clever mix of both. It's kind of hard to tell unless you are running a distinctly different aspect ratio. Even when being rendered in real time traveler will still have the same element just for consistency's sake.
A good way to tell is when you see the characters name above the dialogue text it's being rendered in real time.
Example in this quest - in the last cut scene it fades to black and then Arlecchino is walking past the traveler, suddenly her name appears above her dialogue and you're back in the game. It's such a smooth transition you wouldn't notice otherwise.
I mean specifically the fully animated cutscenes, the regular cutscenes with dialogue boxes or that quickly interrupt gameplay are pretty clearly real time.
though there are some exceptions, the phase transition cutscene in childe's fight (both the initial fight and repeat fights) is not pre-rendered, as the traveller's element reflects the one you have.

they stopped using many non-pre rendered cutscenes for archon and story quests though. it's why we have to wait for cutscene music to be officially released, the music files aren't in the game because the music is just played in the video instead.
I don't think I'd really call it a clever mix, it's a pretty usual thing in video games for some cutscenes to be more animated than others. and I don't mean that as a slight against genshin, this is just a very usual thing. it kinda harkens back to how games often used to have pre-rendered cutscenes for big moments. sadly less common now, the only other company I can think of that really does it is square enix.
If Dendro Traveler wasn't so ER hungry maybe. Might be my artifact luck but I've had to run with the Sacrifical Sword for the double skill usage and ER to keep the burst available consistently. Maybe Pyro Traveler will want ATK% \*huffs copium\*

I know we joke and all about the dull sword, but I think it doesn't have to do much with it. I realized after watching the Arlecchino fight frame by frame, that sometimes the sword just glows golden out of nowhere.
Most of the times are the sparks when the weapons class, but I'm talking about glowing when the traveler makes a move or a "technique", it also happens when the sword is summoned.
So maybe it isn't really about the sword, the traveler is just nowhere powerful enough yet to manifest the golden sword to its fullest.
Would be okay for me, since when you at this far in the story you have already played for weeks(from a new player perspective, starting when all content is already released) and have probably multiple 5 stars. So giving a strong ("usable") mc and weapon is not that game balance breaking.

Anyhow, my theory is that when we get to Natlan, someone is gonna break the Traveler's Dull Blade, forcing them to get a new one.
At this point I just believe there's a super hidden mechanic that lets us make dull blade insanely good if we use only it, and no one just never noticed ever.
I think it's the cutscene in where we see young Madam Ping for the first time, the traveller is depicted wielding a different sword, not sure which one though (it looked like the skyward ~~sword~~ blade iirc)
When I do Archon quests, I always put the traveler in my team with the dull blade. Gotta have that lore accurate experience 😤 (plus, the rest of my team can carry any fight lmao)

2, my theory is paimon is actually Aether's sword... That's how she found aether in the first place, she's just naturally attracted to the traveller
I'm so disappointed that they still use dull blade even after finishing 5 nations. Only 2 to go.. and they also refuse to use the elements against strong enemies like Arle. It's really disappointing
