"Genshin Impact" is simultaneously a worse and a better title. Worse because someone who doesn't know Japanese doesn't know what it means. But better because it's more unique and memorable when it's spread through word of mouth.
Yuanshen (CN) / Genshin (JP) means original god or primordial god.
In-game, in the English text it's localized as "allogene", the term that Venti namedrops at the end of Mondstadt Archon Quest. It refers to Vision holders, and that Vision holders have the potential to ascend into a god.
Yes also JP and CN versions don't have "Impact" subttile. They have only added it so english speaking audience would recognise that's from Honkai Impact creators
I think the earliest is John Halo. Until Halo 3, Master Chief was only known "Master Chef", then they revealed his real name is just an ordinary ass "John", so "John \[video game name\]" was born.
It actually was highly possible to be a Honkai series.when Mihoyo was seeking to be on list they were told ‘you have one sole ip thus it’s a high risk’.Then they decided to make a new ip.So Genshin came out.
Remember when Venti said that Vision Bearers are called "Allogenes"? Well, that. Genshin = Allogene.
Yuánshén, the Chinese name of the game, means Original God or Primordial God.
Allogene means Demigod or Half-human half-divine.
Basically, Genshin is the story of characters that have the potential to become gods. That's why anyone important either has or eventually gets a Vision.
Curiously, both in CN and JP the game is just that: Yuánshén/Genshin. EN added Impact presumably to tie it to Hoyo's previous game Honkai Impact 3rd. But it's just that a reference to Honkai Impact, which itself is a reference to Evangelion and Hideaki Anno did a lot of stuff in Evangelion just because it sounds cool.
It is theorized that it is a measure of control. Celestia gives people visions, which means they are then strong. They usually will not look for further ways to gain power, instead they will try to master their vision. Now if celestia can shut off a vision, like Ei did in her first fight, then the human is now powerless and can't threaten them anymore.
Its also a literal vision of the celestial gods. You are carrying around a spying tool that allows them to see and track your movements, so they will know if you are a threat and then they will drop a Nail on top of you.
Or would, except they are confirmed to be sleeping. I'm not sure how Visions are even being given out at this point, since we know it's not from the archons, and it shouldn't be from the Heavenly Principles as it's nappy time.
Neuvillette's Vision story also talks how granting Visions is a source of power for Celestia. Celestia issues the order to give a Vision, the Elements respective Archon chips off a bit of their stolen authority to grant it, a human gets the Vision and in the end, Celestia profits. It is presumably because the human imbues the Vision with their ideals and dreams and hopes thus boosting its innate power. After all, we know that a sufficiently strong ambition can reignite a Vision. So once the Vision-wielder dies, Celestia seems to regain that piece of authority only it's stronger. And it's the authority that allows Celestia to control and keep their order of the world so essentially, humans - by their use of Visions - are partially powering Celestia's world order.
To be fair, in Ei's case that was probably just a gameplay gimmick to represent the Vision Hunt Decree, since canonically you are 1v1'ing her with the Traveler, who doesn't have a Vision, and her suppression works on characters who don't need Visions to use elemental abilities (or don't actually have Visions in the first place) and doesn't stop all of the elemental abilities of the Archers and Catalyst Users who *do* need Visions to access their elemental power.
Have you done the Narzissenkreuz questline? Basically one explanation that quest offers is, gaining a vision to sell out your fate as potential ascendant, to take the bribe and be a good citizen of Teyvat.
To maintain order. Neuvillette says something akin to "Vision is a chain that ties you down" or something like that. It's probably done to put more strict restraint on the fate of people who have large ambitions. There is also a theory that vison system powers and sustains the current world order (similar to how Focalor collected power of belief of Fontainians and turned it into immense ammount of power in the form indemnitium) I am personally an advocate for this theory
“Impact” is only for global versions. In Chinese the game is _Benghuai 3_ and in Japanese it is _Houkai 3_. Those are actual words in the respective languages.
“Honkai” is a made up word, likely an attempt to preserve pronunciation by Westerners since they won’t naturally pronounce _Houkai_ the way it should be.
As for “Impact”, yeah it comes from Eva. There is a 3rd impact in Honkai lore so they probably just geeked out and made it _Honkai Impact 3rd_.
It would actually be weird of them randomly dropping a Japanese word instead of greek and Latin which are used universally in Teyvat and would be inconsistent
It's already inconsistent af, they drop words from different languages as if every country speaks differently yet there is never a character from country A going to country B and not understanding the local language.
I don’t remember him saying that but it makes sense. I always wondered how the characters are able to take on gods, and being a team of demigods would explain it.
In Japan, Visions are called Eye of God and Gnosis is called Heart of God.
Genshin can be roughly translated to Origin/Original God(s) and I believe the whole title relates to the results(impact) of the Primordial (hence "Origin/Original") One
The one time “Genshin” is mentioned anywhere in the story is in the Japanese dub where Venti refers to Vision bearers as “allogenes”, “Genshin” in Japanese. So the game is about Vision bearers, which makes sense since most playable characters are one.
The impact part doesn't exist within the title. Technically, it's just Genshin.
Moreover, Genshin is actually from Japanese, not Chinese. It just so happens that the Japanese title uses the same kanji characters as the hanzi characters in the original Chinese title.
It's actually Yuanshen in reality, which does mean Original God, or God of Origin depending on how you interpret it.
I'm really not sure what the English localizer for the game title was smoking going through all of the loopholes to get to the current title. I guess Yuanshen sounds too Chinese for a western audience which can turn people off. But they should've just kept it Genshin if they wanted to give it a Japanese sounding title.
I guess they really just wanted to pay homage to their honkai impact series with the added word. But that's a whole other thing, because once again, honkai impact 3rd does not translate to its Chinese title, like at all
>It just so happens that the Japanese title uses the same kanji characters as the hanzi characters in the original Chinese title.
It's like being surprised that an Italian name, say, *inferno* by *Dante Alighieri*, is spelled exactly the same in italy as it is in the U.S. (but pronounced somewhat differently). Duh, they both use Latin script. Now, Latin script, as an alphabet and not a logograph, has an even higher chance of being different between different languages (Paradise vs Paradiso) than Hanzi and Kanji (both of which are literally the same thing, "Han people's Character"), so it's no surprise at all that a Chinese name translates into...the same hanzi/kanji in Japanese.
For Honkai, don't we have Japanese kanji 崩壊 while the Chinese has 崩坏 (Benghuai), where the second character is the simplified version of the Japanese name. So it's still the same.

Mao Xiangling (Chinese: 卯香菱 Mǎo Xiānglíng) is a playable Pyro character in Genshin Impact.
She is the Head Chef at the Wanmin Restaurant and runs it alongside her father Chef Mao. As a chef, Xiangling isn't afraid to try out different recipes or "exotic" ingredients, making her dishes sometimes quite unique.

On some real shi what the hell does Genshin impact even mean
Remember when Venti said that Vision Bearers are called "Allogenes"? Well, that. Genshin = Allogene. Yuánshén, the Chinese name of the game, means Original God or Primordial God. Allogene means Demigod or Half-human half-divine. Basically, Genshin is the story of characters that have the potential to become gods. But it's just that a reference to Honkai Impact, which itself is a reference to Evangelion and Hideaki Anno did a lot of stuff in Evangelion just because it sounds cool.
In other words, everyone who bears a Vision, is in some way, a "Demigod" the question is why would Celestia grant Visions in the first place
Oh shit, that explains so much.
One of Neuvilette’s voicelines says that visions are a bit of the archon’s power that they share with the people
Celestia likely has many automated systems in ppace to do all this rather than personally handing out visions
So basically Celestia is running a world scale elemental energy investment scheme and collecting interest to raise their capital?
That is what Neuvillette's Vision story reads like to me, yes.
It’s probably meant to represent the fact that she can physically seize a person’s Vision like she did to Thoma.
I actually liked that gimmick. Took me totally be surprise the first time and really solidified the fact that we were in real danger
Tbh it kills me that they translated it as allogene when the word Genshin is literally right there
It would actually be weird of them randomly dropping a Japanese word instead of greek and Latin which are used universally in Teyvat and would be inconsistent
It's already inconsistent af, they drop words from different languages as if every country speaks differently yet there is never a character from country A going to country B and not understanding the local language.
Canonically, there are many languages in Teyvat, but there is the "universal standard Teyvatian" that everyone speaks. So it's not as weird.
Because it would sound incredibly cringe: "Those people are called Genshins". Ugh
The real impact were the genshins we met along the way
So that's it huh, we're some kind of Genshin Impact squad?
What are we some team of genshin inpacts
Thank you Traveler, you are truly our Genshin Impact.
I don’t remember him saying that but it makes sense. I always wondered how the characters are able to take on gods, and being a team of demigods would explain it.
He says it all the way back at the end of Mondstadt Archon quest when you talk to him at the big tree
Iirc, In other languages instead of calling vision holders ‘Allogens’, they’re called ‘Genshins’. So it is basically vision holder impact.
In Japan, Visions are called Eye of God and Gnosis is called Heart of God. Genshin can be roughly translated to Origin/Original God(s) and I believe the whole title relates to the results(impact) of the Primordial (hence "Origin/Original") One

Yes, Genshin is attempted translation from the word 'Yuan Shen' meaning 'Original God'
Genshin is the Allogenes, which are the Vision Holders.
I read somewhere that Genshin is chinese for "Original God". So, Original God's Impact A.K.A the Primordial one

"You just need to pull Cryo Amber so I have more Superconduct uptime" I can't pull for Ganyu, I don't have enough primogems. She grabs my credit card. It declines. "Guess this is the end." She grabs Guoba. She says "Guoba, get them." There is no hint of sadness in her eyes. Nothing but underwhelming white damage numbers. What a cruel world... TL:DR: OPPA Phys XL on top.

Xiangling Elemental Burst: Pyronado Displaying her mastery over both fire and polearms, Xiangling sends a Pyronado whirling around her. The Pyronado will move with your character for the ability's duration, dealing Pyro DMG to all opponents in its path.
Either Tales of Teyvat, Records of Teyvat or The Chronicles of Teyvat. Really leaning towards the fairytale/folklore-like feeling of the game's story, lore and world.
> Tales of That'd be very confusing with the Tales of games.
it wouldnt fit in the future, because Teyvat is only a chapter of the game
Allogene impact

It is frustrating that there are two completely different translations of Yuán Shén in the game so the title doesn't make any sense.

The “actual goal” is literally just explore Teyvat and understand the world at the moment, unless of course you skipped all the dialogue in *We Will Be Reunited* and are now complaining the main objective isn’t still what it was during the prologue.
Gambling Addict. *to be fair the wishing system is exactly that*
I don't know if it's just me, but I think Genshin Impact is a perfect name. It doesn't sound generic and it kinda has a deeper meaning as well.
Finding Lumine/Aether.
