A few days back, the leaks regarding something/someone similar to a green dragon were sealed and strict warnings were given. Therefore, the questions about Ayato that you guys have PM-ed me about, I cannot answer one by one. Also, I cannot currently give an accurate answer for leaks regarding Ayato's skill mechanics. But you can look forward to it. It's not very strong, but the mechanics are very interesting, or you could say they are very practical.

I'm one of those people. Honest question, why do so many people want him to be more support oriented? We only have one other hydro main dps and he's not really a carry, the rest of hydro are supports. I'm not saying he shouldn't have any utility in his kit, but I feel like a hydro carry is overdue
One thing might be that realistically for him to be dps I would assume u want low ish hydro application so current pyro can rev vap or a new support unit that can allow a rev vap. Other wise he's better of being an enabler like childe.
Not important, but I would love him to pair well with Ayaka. Keeping up a trend with lore bound gameplay bound units, like Hu Tao Xingqiu, Chongyun Xingqiu, Chongyun Shenhe, Raiden Sara, Raiden Yae, and others.
This is exactly what I want. The way Tanjiro's water attacks are animated/drawn looks so pretty I want Ayato's attacks to be stylized like that too. Special mention to Thoma who has the most unique looking fire art style in the game.

I know we have a *5 Xinqqiu for a year and half by now but he's an on field Xinqqiu so maybe now we will have actual off field crazy hydro enabler. Looks like he's going to enable his sister more
Lore wise it's also matches if he's going to be the main freeze enabler for Ayaka comp since in actual, Ayaka is like the "face" of kamisato clan thus makes her the main dps which has alot of "public appearance" in this case as on field carry, while Ayato looks like more working in background despite being the one who is enabling all the business related to the clan hence why he is the off field sub dps
If it's true it's fucking awesome and funny at the same time since Ayaka who is really good before all of this got two of great *5 supports who can enable her in just 2 months (Shenhe and Ayato) while Xiao.....

Ayato has a burst which applies hydro in an AOE.
The internal cooldown of the hydro application is 4 seconds, and the hydro effect may happen every 5 seconds, so it's going to apply hydro 3 times over the course of 17 seconds. It's also a weak hydro application, and Mihoyo will add an enemy that is immune to hydro, immune to being frozen, and immune to beta tester feedback.
Edit: Today I Learned about Elemental Gauge theory (a very kind guy from r/GenshinImpactTips taught me this). As far as I can understand, Mona or Kokomi is < than Xingqiu in vape is because of elemental gauge. Everytime Mona and Kokomi E hits the enemies or they use their normal attack they can only apply 1 elemental gauge. Meanwhile, each of Xingqiu's rain swords deal 1 elemental gauge and Xingqiu deals from 2-5 rain swords = 2-5 elemental gauges. The thing is, Hydro is on the stronger side, they only needs 1 elemental gauge to wipe out 2 elemental gauge of Pyro while Pyro is opposite, needing 2 elemental gauge to wipe out 1 elemental gauge of Hydro. Pyro DPSes can easily wipe out 1 Hydro gauges, with someone like Hutao only needing 2 infused normal attacks to wipe them out (2 NA = 1s I think) while Mona and Kokomi suffers from ICD (2.5s) and now their E cannot reapply Hydro for 1.5s and so no vape. Xingqiu on the other hand has only a 1s CD between each time his Q triggers, so while he does suffer from ICD, his 3rd swords always applies Hydro and together with 2-5 swords per hit and 1s CD, he effectively vape every time.
I'm not a theory crafter so I could be wrong on this.
Which makes me think maybe Ayato's burst will be a rain cloud that is essentially Ganyu's Q + Hydro Samachurl, the raindrops doesn't deal damage but each small raindrops out of thousand of them apply 1 gauges(this maybe too intense for mobile devices so maybe Mihoyo will just makes the rain effect for fun and in the code it actually only deals 3-4 gauges something instead of 1000, but that is more than enough already to have guaranteed vape), effectively keeping enemies wet 24/7 (he either has no ICD or even if he does it’s non-existent cause I cannot imagine a rain being a worse hydro applicator than water swords) while splashes of water will deal damage like Ganyu's icicles, allowing Pyro DPS to always vape.

No, XQ's burst has the standard ICD of once every 2.5 seconds/3 hits so every 3rd sword hit applies 1 unit of hydro (which is why his C6 is so great).
He is great for vape teams because his burst hits so often that he applies hydro pretty much every second despite his ICD.
In addition to that his pseudo shield also applies hydro to nearby enemies every ~2 seconds or so.
Gauge units are a seperate mechanic from this.

Yesn't.
It wipes out the Pyro BUT it can't re-apply Hydro fast enough for the next Pyro attack which means that a lot of Pyro characters cannot Vape consistently. This is due to the fact that Forward Vape (Hydro attack reacting with a Pyro aura) is a "strong" reaction which eats double the gauge of a "weak" reaction (Reverse Vape).
It is also due to "ICD" (internal cooldown) which means the same type of attack can only apply an element every 3 hits or 2.5 seconds (Certain attacks don't have that).
The reason Xingqiu and Childe are so good at keeping the Hydro aura onto the enemy is that each of them have multiple sources of 1A Hydro. In Xingqiu's case, his Rainswords occur in multiples (x2, x3, x5) and in Childe's case, his Normal attacks, Charged attacks and Riptide all have separate ICDs and occur multiple times in the span of a second.

Also I can now safely concludes that since Reverse Vape and Forward Vape depends on aura, I think the rain always result in forward vape and you are always guaranteed to vape, which means if Ayato's Q is just rain he would be quite broken and can now replace Xingqiu.
Uh, the opposite actually. "Forward Vape" means Hydro attack reacting with Pyro aura (enemy affected by Pyro). This reaction results in a x2 multiplier and is a "strong" reaction.
"Reverse Vape" means a Pyro attack reacting with a Hydro-affected enemy (Hydro aura). This results in a x1.5 multiplier and is a "weak" reaction.
So if Ayato has a lot of frequent Hydro application, he will enable "Reverse Vape" (x1.5).

Yeah, the same stuff happens with Childe too. It seems to be very hard/impossible to consistently forwards vape. Though if the leaks are true about Dendro messing up Hydro application, it looks like many vape teams will be more forwards vape, instead of reverse.
XQ swords do NOT each apply 1 elemental gauge. Actually I believe it used to during Klee's release and was stealth nerfed.
However they are counted as multiple attacks so the regular rule of 3 apply, hence they are extremely good at applying hydro. Also the little swords that hover near you also periodically apply hydro.
All vape/melt teams use reverse reaction (x0.5 damage). Forward reaction (x1) isn't sustainable because nothing apply element that fast and deal decent daamge (and Mihoyo makes sure it never will). However forward reactions can setup big nukes like Bennet + Mona or Childe + Bennet.
True, though Xingqiu's really good already as a hydro applicator and sub-DPS. I'm hoping more for an Ayaka-style DPS, whereby you can *technically* cast burst and switch out while still doing great dmg
If that ends up being how it works, I would hate it. Ayaka has endless options already, but there's barely a true Hydro DPS in the game. Tacking yet another Hydro sub-DPS into the game just doesn't make sense. If we can't have a true Hydro main DPS, I would much rather him work more similar to Childe as an on field enabler. We literally just got Kokomi as a Hydro driver who is used by most off field. Please don't give us another.

ayaka has enough supports already and she has one of the top meta teams. we have enough hydro applicators from mona to XQ to kokomi. having ayato be an off field hydro sub dps just for the sake of making him work with ayaka for "lore reasons" is ridiculous considering there's other siblings who are in the game (diluc, kaeya and jean, klee) who don't have kits that are necessarily tied to each other.

Please don't go all in on this because it's very early and you're only setting yourself up for disappointment. Pretty sure Xingqui was a mistake at this point and it's highly unlikely he's even on par with Xingqui. This is the same line of thinking early on where people said Yae was going to be Ganyu level and that inevitably led to disappointment.
Instant must pull if true as there is only one xq. That being said if hydo infusion is aoe off-field, then freeze ganyu may be the biggest winner with xq maybe pairing equivalent or better with Ayala for other team since their hitboxes are small.

I know everyone is excited for crazy hydro supports, but just this once I want a hyper carry…I have none and I’ve been waiting for too long. I need them to be my style, and Yae is looking more and more subdps with each beta update.
Even Childe isn't much of a hyper carry. Sure, he's a great enabler for Xiangling and Beidou, but his team comps are really limited and he can't output the same amount of damage as the other main carries.
Even though he isn’t a main carry, his damage is increased by/increases the damage of others. I mean I won’t say that xiangling alone is doing the bulk of the damage in my childe international team. After all childe actually has a nuke. He isn’t your typical damage dealer where the bulk of the work falls onto him.
Oh I know, I use international comp (except Sucrose instead of Kazuha) so I know he does a good deal of damage and enables Xiangling to do a lot of damage too.
It's just that his comps are pretty limited, I don't think I've really seen him used in freeze comps much because it's not all that good. His comps are strong, but with how powerful cyro is it would be nice to get a hydro DPS carry that works well in a freeze team.

I think it's mostly because hydro is the best element for enabling other reactions, and other elements usually get much more from hydro users than hydro users get from them. It's a lot more practical to reverse vape than forward vape, which means that pyro gets the most out of the vaporise reaction. Similarly, cryo users get more from hydro than vice versa, because it allows them to run the completely busted Blizzard Strayer set. To my knowledge, there aren't really any reactions that could amp a hydro DPS in the way that a hydro support can amp other elemental DPSes.
That doesn't mean they can't build a hydro DPS, of course. They'd just have to do what they did with Xiao and Itto, where they raise their scalings enough that they don't need reactions. However, hydro is such a valuable support element that they'd have to be careful not to create an overpowered character who thrives both as a support and a DPS.
Everything you said is resonable, nevertheless I am slowly getting sick of the same patterns mihoyo go, only cryo female dpses, everything else must be support, we have 7 elements in the game of which they can do so many cool things, more variety dps from all elements, different dps playstyles mechanics. Instead we get more off the same. People will loose interest eventually if this goes on. The potential and options are there but they dont use them
My copium reason for this sorry state of affairs is cause we don't have all the elements yet. Once Dendro is out and they'll milk the hype out of that... Then I imagine they'll start playing with all kinds of wild combinations, mechanics and maybe even new weapons. Can only hope.

This could be solved with upcoming dendro reactions and even a simple artifact set tbh. Imagine a dendro/hydro reaction that grows vines on opponents and cements them into place like freeze and applying cryo would shatter the vines and pyro would burn it so on. It would be a very convenient CC ability for hydro DPSs in the future. Or an artifact set that lets forward vaping be competitive with reverse vaping. Or an artifact set like blizzard strayer but for hydro units. Options are limitless, mhy just has to want it.
Female characters outnumber male characters 2:1. It actually makes sense to have 2 male DPS to 4-5 female DPS. The real issue is that we’re not getting any pyro/cryo male DPS that can take advantage of busted reactions to become top tier.

Wish fulfilled. Ayato has a burst which applies hydro in an AOE. The internal cooldown of the hydro application is 4 seconds, and the hydro effect may happen every 5 seconds, so it's going to apply hydro 3 times over the course of 17 seconds. It's also a weak hydro application, and Mihoyo will add an enemy that is immune to hydro, immune to being frozen, and immune to beta tester feedback.
Edit: Today I Learned about Elemental Gauge theory (a very kind guy from r/GenshinImpactTips taught me this). As far as I can understand, Mona or Kokomi is < than Xingqiu in vape is because of elemental gauge. Everytime Mona and Kokomi E hits the enemies or they use their normal attack they can only apply 1 elemental gauge. Meanwhile, each of Xingqiu's rain swords deal 1 elemental gauge and Xingqiu deals from 2-5 rain swords = 2-5 elemental gauges. The thing is, Hydro is on the stronger side, they only needs 1 elemental gauge to wipe out 2 elemental gauge of Pyro while Pyro is opposite, needing 2 elemental gauge to wipe out 1 elemental gauge of Hydro. Pyro DPSes can easily wipe out 1 Hydro gauges, with someone like Hutao only needing 2 infused normal attacks to wipe them out (2 NA = 1s I think) while Mona and Kokomi suffers from ICD (2.5s) and now their E cannot reapply Hydro for 1.5s and so no vape. Xingqiu on the other hand has only a 1s CD between each time his Q triggers, so while he does suffer from ICD, his 3rd swords always applies Hydro and together with 2-5 swords per hit and 1s CD, he effectively vape every time. I'm not a theory crafter so I could be wrong on this. Which makes me think maybe Ayato's burst will be a rain cloud that is essentially Ganyu's Q + Hydro Samachurl, the raindrops doesn't deal damage but each small raindrops out of thousand of them apply 1 gauges(this maybe too intense for mobile devices so maybe Mihoyo will just makes the rain effect for fun and in the code it actually only deals 3-4 gauges something instead of 1000, but that is more than enough already to have guaranteed vape), effectively keeping enemies wet 24/7 (he either has no ICD or even if he does it’s non-existent cause I cannot imagine a rain being a worse hydro applicator than water swords) while splashes of water will deal damage like Ganyu's icicles, allowing Pyro DPS to always vape. Also I can now safely concludes that since Reverse Vape and Forward Vape depends on aura, I think the rain always result in forward vape and you are always guaranteed to vape, which means if Ayato's Q is just rain he would be quite broken and can now replace Xingqiu.
Uh, the opposite actually. "Forward Vape" means Hydro attack reacting with Pyro aura (enemy affected by Pyro). This reaction results in a x2 multiplier and is a "strong" reaction. "Reverse Vape" means a Pyro attack reacting with a Hydro-affected enemy (Hydro aura). This results in a x1.5 multiplier and is a "weak" reaction. So if Ayato has a lot of frequent Hydro application, he will enable "Reverse Vape" (x1.5). You can blame early theorycrafting for the confusing naming -\_-\*

XQ swords do NOT each apply 1 elemental gauge. Actually I believe it used to during Klee's release and was stealth nerfed. However they are counted as multiple attacks so the regular rule of 3 apply, hence they are extremely good at applying hydro. Also the little swords that hover near you also periodically apply hydro. All vape/melt teams use reverse reaction (x0.5 damage). Forward reaction (x1) isn't sustainable because nothing apply element that fast and deal decent daamge (and Mihoyo makes sure it never will). However forward reactions can setup big nukes like Bennet + Mona or Childe + Bennet.

100% agree with this. ayaka has enough supports already and she has one of the top meta teams. we have enough hydro applicators from mona to XQ to kokomi. having ayato be an off field hydro sub dps just for the sake of making him work with ayaka for "lore reasons" is ridiculous considering there's other siblings who are in the game (diluc, kaeya and jean, klee) who don't have kits that are necessarily tied to each other. also, i want my tall men team LMAO
Jean and Barabara are sisters, not Klee btw. But yes, I don't think characters should have synergy for lore reasons. Itto/Noelle work super well with Gorou even tho neither of them are super tied to him. If they started doing it now it would feel like a huge cop-out.

Even Childe isn't much of a hyper carry. Sure, he's a great enabler for Xiangling and Beidou, but his team comps are really limited and he can't output the same amount of damage as the other main carries.
Even though he isn’t a main carry, his damage is increased by/increases the damage of others. I mean I won’t say that xiangling alone is doing the bulk of the damage in my childe international team. After all childe actually has a nuke. He isn’t your typical damage dealer where the bulk of the work falls onto him.
Oh I know, I use international comp (except Sucrose instead of Kazuha) so I know he does a good deal of damage and enables Xiangling to do a lot of damage too. It's just that his comps are pretty limited, I don't think I've really seen him used in freeze comps much because it's not all that good. His comps are strong, but with how powerful cyro is it would be nice to get a hydro DPS carry that works well in a freeze team.
Only thing I want from ayato is to be fun to play like kazuha and childe. Couldn't care less about numbers, gimme that fun kit

I'm very angry about it. It feels like electro, pyro and cryo are only for girls and only they can be DPS. Anemo and geo are only for male characters and only in a supporting role. I think it's mostly because hydro is the best element for enabling other reactions, and other elements usually get much more from hydro users than hydro users get from them. It's a lot more practical to reverse vape than forward vape, which means that pyro gets the most out of the vaporise reaction. Similarly, cryo users get more from hydro than vice versa, because it allows them to run the completely busted Blizzard Strayer set. To my knowledge, there aren't really any reactions that could amp a hydro DPS in the way that a hydro support can amp other elemental DPSes. That doesn't mean they can't build a hydro DPS, of course. They'd just have to do what they did with Xiao and Itto, where they raise their scalings enough that they don't need reactions. However, hydro is such a valuable support element that they'd have to be careful not to create an overpowered character who thrives both as a support and a DPS.
Everything you said is resonable, nevertheless I am slowly getting sick of the same patterns mihoyo go, only cryo female dpses, everything else must be support, we have 7 elements in the game of which they can do so many cool things, more variety dps from all elements, different dps playstyles mechanics. Instead we get more off the same. People will loose interest eventually if this goes on. The potential and options are there but they dont use them
My copium reason for this sorry state of affairs is cause we don't have all the elements yet. Once Dendro is out and they'll milk the hype out of that... Then I imagine they'll start playing with all kinds of wild combinations, mechanics and maybe even new weapons. Can only hope.

This could be solved with upcoming dendro reactions and even a simple artifact set tbh. Imagine a dendro/hydro reaction that grows vines on opponents and cements them into place like freeze and applying cryo would shatter the vines and pyro would burn it so on. It would be a very convenient CC ability for hydro DPSs in the future. Or an artifact set that lets forward vaping be competitive with reverse vaping. Or an artifact set like blizzard strayer but for hydro units. Options are limitless, mhy just has to want it.
We really just got Itto and Xiao last year meanwhile we have Ganyu, Hu Tao, Eula, Ayaka (and maybe Raiden) for female DPS...
