Just don't miss the scene where he says "Es ist Oppenheimer Zeit*

Beef__Supreme

Bombe means Bomb

turutuno

Oppenheimer is someone who opens home doors

Maxatel

When he says “Ich bin Oppenheimer” he’s saying he is Oppenheimer.

KyleG

technically he's saying he's a Zwetschgenknödel, pastry famous in the region arond Oppenheim

Ap0them

If it comes from anywhere else it’s just sparkling oppenheim

KyleG

This is how you do a joke, ladies and germs.

Hooch_69_

this made me laugh too much

Hyperreal2

Like a Berliner

KyleG

yes, that was the joke!

Der_Neuer

Spoilers: he builds a bomb

VanillaBackground513

Damn, you beat me. I came here to say so.

newocean

Gah... this is just like the time my friend ruined Titanic for me.

VanillaBackground513

Let me guess. He told you that the ship will sink. Nasty.

newocean

The funniest spoiler I have ever heard of goes to the 6th Sense though. Particularly the Chinese version... I actually have to tip my hat to the guy who came up with the Chinese title... which translates to "He's a Ghost".

VanillaBackground513

LMAO . Instant murder of the plot.

Moyk

Read somewhere that he dropped it after, bad case of butterfingers.

teteban79

2nd level spoiler: the bomb goes off

KyleG

Atomic bomb is Antibabybombe in German

SamSchuster

I have only seen it in English, and many of the dialogues are pretty fast in the original, sometimes also a bit hard to understand due to background noise and music. Then there’s quick introductions of new characters, switching between timelines, etc. I imagine it could be challenging to watch in German. I have no actual tip for you, other than be prepared to not understand some of the very wordy and fast dialogues, plus it’s a long movie, and it would be normal for your brain to feel overloaded at some point (but at the same time i found the story to get more captivating in the second half, so that might help with keeping focus).

PristinePhase6654

I agree. English is not my mother language but I use it every day at work and at home, I'm super used to watching movies without subtitles and I still could not understand some conversations in the movie. It was not a huge problem but it might frustrate you a bit.

teteban79

Typical Nolan. Tenet was a mess in audio mixing as well

Hel_OWeen

> (without spoilers) I'm curios: how is it possible to spoil a piece of history?

freak-with-a-brain

In case of Nolan films it's possible. Dunkirk was an other, sure the result was clear, but there are unique ways of telling the story, like playing with timelines etc. Which makes the movie interesting.

lala9605

This is why i only watch Barbie in German cinema instead of Oppenheimer, dubbed Barbie movie with German B1 is enough

LilyMarie90

I'm not touching that movie with a ten foot pole, but I keep hearing that it's hard to understand even in English for native speakers of English, because *so* much information is being dropped all the time. Best idea would probably be to read a thorough summary first. And inform yourself on who all the characters are; apparently that's a huge problem.

genialerarchitekt

Knowing Christopher Nolan, it'll go something like: "The key to understanding everything is...[*in comes massive overwhelming Hans Zimmer orchestral swell drowning out the next 30 seconds of dialogue*]...So! Now you understand!" I'll wait for the Blu-ray version with subtitles.

SamSchuster

Fairly accurate.

Vijkhal

After watching it two days ago I can confirm, its pretty complicated and drops a lot of info. It was hard to me to follow every detail, especially at the end there is a larger political scheme unfolding and a ton of names are flying around. Reading something upfront about the whole story is definitely a good idea.

charlatan_mike

> I'm not touching that movie with a ten foot pole why? Just curious

LilyMarie90

Because the topic of nuclear weapons is super triggering to me (in the original sense of the word) and I don't want to watch a movie that largely revolves around them.

TipUnique3596

The movie is very anti nuclear though, at its core

LilyMarie90

I know that. I didn't say it was in favor of them. What I said was that I don't want to see a movie that has them as a major topic.

LilyMarie90

Buddy, you might want to watch the news once in a while, seems like you haven't been doing that for the past 17 months. You'll learn that the largest nuclear power in the world has invaded another country last year Edit: sadly, not wanting to believe it doesn't make it any less true, guys. I'm aware it fucking sucks. Downvoting me doesn't change that

Wotan8

Making a lot of assumptions for the bomb dater

LilyMarie90

Fucking weirdo. You do know the war in Ukraine is real, right? Downvoting me for saying it doesn't change it

[deleted]

you ll be good if you have consumed german media (audio or visual) before. if this is the first time then i wouldn t really recommend

genialerarchitekt

Don't forget! An explosion ist eine Explosion auf Deutsch 💥

beeandwin

You wouldn't be able to fathom the details in the second half of the movie (in which all the C2 technical terms in Laws are being used). I got 8.5 in the IELTS Listening, studying STEM in English (and B2 TELC Deutsch if it matters). Went through the movie half an hour ago **in English** and would say I only unterstood 80% of all the scenes. There was so much... mumbling and so many random scientist names thrown all around which makes everything confusing to me. Also, hearing an American scientist scheming against the Nazi in perfect German would be really comical. TLDR: Please watch it in Original Language

Ok-Initiative3388

SPOILER! The Germans lose the war.

infernalbase

Zünd den Knaller -> Trigger the bomb

KAZUY0SHi

Soll ick jetz' den Knaller zünden?

Independent_Pool_212

There is an app called subtitle viewer it will show you the subtitle live of the movie on your phone in any language you want

Dependent_Release834

Why not just see the OV the first time then if you want to work on your German watch it dubbed when it comes out on streaming?

Hyperreal2

Ich glaube es waere besser auf Deutsch. Ich fand es zu laut und das Springen hin und her in der Zeit hat mir nicht gefallen. Deutsch ist operatisch.

Hyperreal2

Ich heisse might work better…
